YES. Thanks for making this video. I’ve been looking for the right coat for weeks and it’s been a struggle to find one that looks right on me. I’m 5”0!
I totally agree with all your points. Especially how the defined waist is so important. I have a rectangle body shape so it’s even more crucial for me to create those curves! It just really sucks that the trend for coats right now is an oversized/mens-wear style that doesn’t have a fitted look let alone a defined waist 😠 so it’s been like impossible to find one that does
Thank you for the sleeve length tip! I’ve been starting to send my clothes to a seamstress for alterations and it is such a great investment that goes a long way!
Outstanding presentation of the key elements of finding the right coat. The “frosting” was the inclusion of locations to purchase stylish petite sizes. THANK YOU!
I'm 4'11 and have a short torso. Recently found the perfect X shape long coat, but what I really adore about it is that at the back there is a button keeping my upper back flat rather than bunched up which seems to occur in every other coat I've tried.
You are correct! Purchasing a coat is an investment that can last many years, depending on the maker and the quality of the garment. The way you take care of it is crucial as well. I have three older sisters, and one year my sister and I traded coats with one another of instead of purchasing a new coat for fashion reasons. It saved us both money and I had gotten so many compliments on this tweed long tailored coat. I remember my favorite coat was a black belted long flared at the bottom coat. It also had a silver fox trim collar which kept me very warm. My mom purchased it at Abraham & Strauss, Company. For all you youngsters it used to be a department store simular to Macy’s. Since she worked in the store she would receive a discount on purchases even if the item was on sale. So she often would come home with some treasure from this quality store. I loved the A-lined, belted black coat on you. I also loved the brown faux- fur brown jacket at the beginning (the one with the sleeves too long). I would have liked to purchase that, but I did not see a link for this jacket. BYW: I had one in an off-white and kept it for many years. After being teased about it by my sisters, I gave it to Goodwill. Now I wish I had kept it! I am very happy to have your channel as a guide, now that we do a lot of shopping online. You have a very good eye for choosing good pieces. Thank you!!!
You have another clip on winter coats from a year or so ago, and I applied your tips and found the most perfect coat for me. Everyone says I look so elegant! Thank you for your tips! I'm 5 foot
I love all of your advice. So interesting for coats. I'm in France so probably won't be able to order from your channel but I'm starting my quest for my perfect coat. Thank you so much for all these tips on dressing that I have never condidered and I'm 72 and 5'
This video makes total sense. Every point. You look fabulous in all of these! I am 5'4, but for coats I do petites because coats are rather overwhelming to begin with, and the petites look the neatest on me. Thank you!
Glad I found your channel! I'm actually 5'5 but I tend to shop petite sizes for coats because I liked mostly how tailored it look on me and the length is just right and not overwhelming. Thanks for the brand recommendations, I will definitely check on J. Crew for this thinsulate coat that's very flattering on you, hopefully when it's available again. Kudos to you!
Glad I stumbled upon your channel! Something new to me "Long coats for short people!" I threw away my long coat as it like a long straight shape on my body. guess like 10 yrs ago they don't have petite sizes. Now Macy's is doing away with petite sizes. What are these Store owners trying to do? Only 20% of women in the world have the height of 5'-10"! Thank you for your ideas to help short people dress well!
I LOVE coats and jackets! I have so many of various lengths, materials, weights, colors and patterns! I'm short but plump (that weird size between a large and extra large that makes me too big for most standard sizing and too small for most plus sizes). I'll try looking into your tips!
There are so many choices out there. I wish you all the best in finding a perfect fitting coat for you! Have you tried Burlington? I did not have a very high opinion about this store, until I finally went in and was amazed at all of the selections and marked down prices on designer brands. I no longer live near to one of these stores, but I just realized I could check online. 💡🤔. Good luck to you❣️
For a second, I misread petite for pretty dressing as your channel name...or did I? I have gotten more compliments since following your advice and I tell not only petite women about you because you give practical advice for all shapes. As for the tailors? I had a maxi coat that I had altered by using the bottom to create a high waisted band and of course the sleeve length. That coat was so nice it was stolen at an office party. Thanks for all your great advice!
I am learning so much from you these past few weeks. Some days I just dont look as put together because I dont have the right shoes and coats yet to make myself look taller than I am. I am a little bit under 5'-0". It's cold right now in southeast Texas but not as cold as where you live. I sometimes get overwhelmed getting ready but it's fun trying to learn to work with the clothes you have and pairing things together using your great tips. I also have gotten rid of th use not so flattering clothes. Thanks so much!
I have gotten rid of so many pieces of priceless and good quality clothing, that I wish I still had now. Be careful what you discard from your wardrobe since they do not make clothing the way it used to be fabricated.
I'm 5'2, I bought last week an X shape long coat and long chic boots with heels, I was so worried about looking shorter but actually they made me look longer! I was surprised and very happy cause I wanted to have a long coat for a long but I used to hear that they'll make me look shorter
Hi Chi. I'm glad I found your channel. I've watched several of your petite styling. Very informative. I'm 4'8" tall and struggle with all clothing. I too live in NJ and I find the J Crew Petite city coat fits me well.
If sleeves will need shortening, pick a simple, plain cuff. Vented, zippered, or other detailed, cuffs will be a lot more expensive to shorten, making the coat overall too expensive. Decorative-only buttons aren’t expensive too move, if the cuff is otherwise simple. My problem is that I’m a (naturally) busty petite, if I want a coat to close in front, the shoulders are always too big. (Something to think about before implants, nothing fits properly if over a C or max, a D, cup). But, I don’t think wrap styles are warm, it’s my upper chest and neck that feels the cutting wind the most. Even petite coats can have enormous 5” shoulder seams, 4” is better on narrow frames.
I’m 5’2” and dress size 2 or 4 depending on the brand and cut, and almost all my coats are belted including my 3/4 length winter coat. I also have a full length winter coat and of course, it’s belted.
THANK YOU. I am 5’2 and i have always struggled can you make a video for petite plus sized women too? Thank you so much you definitely made my “coat search” easier.
I think it is easier to find a chanel that the person doing the video is a petite plus. Why because they actually wear the clothes they recommend versi a person just talk about something they have experienced.

It’s time to resell it, this was my most expensive wardrobe mistake ever.

I do not wear high heels ever but I do wear either ankle boots with about 2 inch heel or wedgy shoes, with a 2 inch heels. Even ones that are more fitted jackets, seem to add weight ( still due to the puffiness), horizontal lines. But, please let me know what you think about puffy jackets if you are NOT super slender? Thanks for this video! I am on the hunt for a longer coat but it needs to be VERY warm, I live in South Dakota with severe winters and wind. I'm hoping to find a long puffer coat that is really warm, plus a wool type coat when I don't need to walk farther. I also loved your short coat with the sleeves that could be rolled up!
