- Final Fantasy VII Remake has a lot of moving parts and it takes a bit of time to explain everything. This, within context, makes a lot of sense as it can be overwhelming to have information dumps coming at you constantly. Additionally, the game leaves some things to a bit of trial and experimentation so you can discover them in a more natural way.
If you're anything like us, however, you may find yourself asking a lot of questions long before the game is ready to give you answers. As experienced Final Fantasy players and fans of RPGs generally, we found ourselves jumping the gun a bit and we imagine you'll be doing the same. So, to save you from sweating the small stuff, getting caught up in trying to figure out how all the cogs and gears fit together, and perhaps diluting your enjoyment as a result, we've put together a bunch heads-ups that'll save you a bit of stress.
Everything in here is largely spoiler-free, so you won't be unexpectedly hit with plot revelations or have surprises ruined. However, we know that sensitivities towards spoilers vary, so we'll mention that we are using gameplay footage from areas in the mid-game.

Dude I'm in love with this game. I never played the original but this one is so beautiful. The character models are stunning to look at and the game is fun. I remember watching advent children I thought of one day cloud looking like that in real time and here I am soaking it in.
The character models are great - just don't look too closely at the environments lol

Btw: carbuncle DLC Is pretty good as it halves the damage you recceive, boosts your ATB and heals all your HP when he leaves
Also, if your party dies while carbuncle is out your party will be revived. No game over Kupo!

This is how games should be! Companies like 2k & EA are destroying gaming with they're "Pay To Play" method! Games are suppose to make you grind... its rewarding!
The original FF7 was all grinding...no short cuts! Its was a Masterpiece! I play every game like that...even online...I don't buy shit! I grind to upgrade weapons, ect.

@@phillyscorpio3804 Grinding is generally not necessary in FF7R to get most of the experience... maybe slight AP grind in hard mode if you wanted to max certain materia, but otherwise, I never grinded and I'm max level easily
i just beat the game. when you guys go back to replay, what chapter are you starting from so that it’s easier to access everything ?
I’m a huge FF fan. Saw my brothers played the original FF7, and never played it before, but i know the story so i’m ready to play the remake.
Little correction about magnify: It actually reduces the damage and healing done for the sake of being able to hit multiple targets.
Rank 1: 60% reduction
Rank 2: 45% reduction
Rank 3: 25% reduction
Despite the reduction effect, it is probably one of the best materias. Even at Rank 1, healing all 3 party members is as effectiv as 180% of a normal single heal.
Combining it with Barrier, or Time is also very efficient for quickly buffing the party.

Carbuncle is REALLY good imo. So it's kinda shit that it's tied to pre-orders.
I had a hard time getting him to active in FF15
A tip I found is that it’s easy to stick with your main leader and forget to use the rest of the party. Then when you need help they don’t have ATB available. Because ATB charges faster as you attack. And for some reason if you’re not controlling the character it charges slower. So what i do is I’ll attack with my leader to get the first bar. Then I will pause choose my action then swap to the next character. Attack. Choose and action then swap again. If you do this a few times in a row their bars will start filling up naturally at a good pace. This game really makes you use your whole team which is good.
Use all 10 save slots in case you need to backtrack. Manual saving about once per hour helps in case you miss anything.
Anddd never got the materia at the fan. And I am now at chapter 8. Great :-(

I was hoping someone could clarify exactly what 'fixed' and 'proportional' types of damage do in FF7R are as they appear in the combat analyzer but it doesn't say in the manual exactly how they work and what they are, I can't find what they mean/do anywhere on the internet anyone know?
A guide for choosing the best weapon would be awesome. It's hard to pick one
@Owen Dalton I disagree. You should totally get rid of the orginal blade. The orginal one only seems powerful because it's fully leveled up. But once you level up the other weapons the old one seems weaker.
Believe it or not, once mastered several cores, Buster sword is still an awesome weapon for me. I only switched swords just to master the skills, and then switch back to buster sword.
It depends on your playstyle. The weapons and gear lean toward different stats rather than all being better or worse variations of the same, so you have to decide whether you want them to be more focused around physical attack/defence, magic attack/defence or somewhere n the middle. Another thing to consider is eventually equipping all weapons on each character until they're mastered so you can perma-unlock each combat ability
This is totally up to you. It all depends how you stack your characters and decide to play your group. Every weapon in the game has some kind of advantage given the context its put in.

This game is incredible on hard mode. It completely changes the game play dynamics and forces you to get really, really good with materia..which leads you to finding out a lot more you may not have known about how the game works. I dont recommend this mode for casuals or those who easily complain. It becomes a whole new game and the boss fights become epic battles pretty quick. It really highlights how great the battle system really is.
If I made multiple copies of the main save data by mistake how can I delete that copy?
8:18 I believe 'Proficiency Bonus' is an extra bonus effect once the skill for the weapon has been unlocked
Tar Uts nope. It really hasten the mastery by 10% if successful each time.

Just using the skill makes it fill faster too. There is a part where you play as Barret alone and i just spammed life saver over and over and he learned it in like 5 mins.
@@capntonydanza Yeah it just didn't click with me there needed to be a way to become proficient. I just used the skill a few times and it was complete; really easy
Tar Uts ya totally. It’s not very hard to get the skills. You just gotta use them. And be willing to switch up who you’re controlling too. I think a lot of people will stick with cloud or Tifa as their main and forget to use the others

Another tip: tap L2 to switch between a compass, a mini map, and nothing at all.
I'm kind of 50/50 when it comes to their abilities that they can use I'm glad that they have these abilities that they can use but really all they are are recycled limit break moves from the original OG like cloud has an ability called braver that used to be his very first limit break.. basically a lot of their abilities that they can learn are just older limit breaks that maybe weren't as popular or as useful or are used that often made to where you now have to utilize them more frequently.
It would have been nice if they all had their own new individual move sets for the abilities and kept all of their old standard limit breaks intact.
But then again on the other side of the fence I do like how they implemented it and how you can use them outside of the traditional limit break format

You should play it. I've played some of the original but never finished it. Was never into FF as a kid, first one I played was 15. This one is excellent, though I also enjoyed 15 which didn't get too much praise. It's all down to your own tastes really. I loved 15 and I love this one. Combat is so fun when you get to know how it all works.
To be honest 3 and 8 are better. And don't play 15
Play P5R rn as well as this game, but the control difference are the bane of me
One more thing. A lot of misconception that you can't grinding/farming in this 1st part of the game. The truth is, you can. Once you open up all the monsters hideout in Sector 7 and become the reigning champion of Coliseum in Wall Market. You can grind them up to your heart content.
what you mean? you had to finish all the colisseum missions (so in ng+) to unlock monsters in the world map?
the DLC summoning material I got are Chocobo chick and Cactuar

Replaying the game in Japanese feels like watching a different movie. The replay value is great in this game. The game is FUCKING HARD on hard mode
How do I switch to upgrade version of the magic? Example instead of Fire. I use Fira

& I'm a FF7 vet, just not use to this new system. It works the same as the old one...they just switched alot of things around...like the pairing materia system... was not like that in '97 😄😄😄

Yes, you need to wait for the game to completely download before you can continue
It takes a while to finish installing. Just put the PS4 in rest mode and come back after...5 hrs lol

@@chalupakingsama I thought it was. I downloaded it yesterday evening and it thought by the time I wake up, it will be ok and it was. I've played the first 59min of the game, destroyed the M-thing reactor and all of a sudden, the screen went black and it said "you can continue this game once the downloading is finished " I was so shocked. And now it's 18:19 and I'm only at 77%
Idk how to use potions when not in battle. Bc I have less than.a inch of health left, and I'm at the part where I'm escaping sector 8 heard of guys ambush me kills me in.a second
Oooh, it took me a sec to get that, too! When you're walking as Cloud, press X (on PS4) and you should be able to use your potions/ethers/etc on whatever character needs them.

Is valefor a summon in this game?
No. Valefor is a FFX summon not a FFVII summon.

@@tkf28 Yeah Ifrit is a staple of the series. Has been in it since FF3. Valefor was only introduced in FFX and then possibly in 13? I could be wrong but yeah basically Ifrit is in them all and Valefor is hardly in any.

Yep I think when you toggle between Magnify On/Off (L1 button in the battle menu) it's a weakened multi-target version of the spell vs its more potent singular version

One thing they sure didn't tell you is Tifa doesn't summom a Dolphin when using Dolphin Blow...I'm cool with the changes...the time travel, alternate dimensions, background fluff on biggs and wedge who die in every game (the kenny of final fantasy)...Sephiroth being the stupidest villian in FF history, the summon mechanics, alllll the quests, Midgard, Midgard, Midgard, Red XIII not playable, Prayer Materia, The Honey Bee Inn Dance Scene, Scarlets Face,..I'm cool with all that shit......but, no Dolphin....Fuck you SE!

PC gamers are slaughtering this game saying its a simple kiddy game and not complex and elite like pc games are. Im like who cares, its enjoyable.
Are you sure it's not the fact that it's a slightly better FF15 in terms of combat? That's a really low bar. Look at the Trials of Mana remake. Action RPGs have advanced massively over the course of 23 years of its release. Yet it functions worse than ones on the SNES.
PC only gamers will tell you that crap all the time. I play both and this game has a decent amount of depth. Not a crazy amount...but a decent amount. I'm failing to see an overwhelming wave of capture footage from PCers that show themselves strolling through chapters 17 and 18 on hard mode...so like usual...the PC only crowd seems to be blowing sunshine up their own asses again. You get used to it.

the fact that that is an alternative universe doesn't mean it is an alternative story. The original events of FFVII actually happened in this remake, but that is a different timeline because Sephiroth fucked with, indeed, time.

Good game, played it and am at Chapters 8. But its a lot, a lot talking. Which good story line. But hate the fact everytime i do a quest or in General they just want to talk your ears off. Fuck i know we are in the shit hole and we live in the lowers level. But i am cloud and I'm just trying to get paid to get away from you guys. Lol

@@Zoibek It's not remotely a sequel. It's the original game fleshed out to what it was more than likely supposed to originally be. A LOT of content was removed from the original game due to pressure to have the game released. They are putting that content back in & expanding on the story as well.

Sephiroth mentions how he killed her in the past, Cloud could save her- I mean most of Sector 7 & Avalanche are suppose to be dead but they live in this.
@@Zoibek if sephi doesn't kill her on this one he will win, as she was able to force the planet to attack the meteor while she was in the lifestream.
