The vagueness is definitely intentional and keeps the audience wondering. Almost embracing both female and male counterparts. In the lighthearted scenes the animation more-so highlighted their feminine beauty accentuating their makeup, clothing and fashion when they were happy. It was interesting to me see how absent it was at the end when the tone became more serious when their facial expression drops. They look more handsome and charming- when they watch the girl get dragged away with a slightly sadistic look! Were they evil? I don’t know know what to make of it but i love it!
You're not that far off from my interpretation. Mine goes like this: - The scenes where they are both in school are actually flashbacks. These scenes happened years ago, back when pink haired girl was a boy and the other girl had a crush on him at the time. - Boy is drafted in the military (chalkboard scene), and that was the last time the girl sees him. Years later... - ....girl recognizes pink-haired girl in the cafe at the start of the video. She knows she looks familiar, then realizes it's the boy from her middle school that she had a crush on. - After that, the music video is up to your interpretation. Either she's confused figuring out if she likes women too, or she's still trying to figure out if they're the same person.
1. I keep seeing people say the flashbacks are years ago but it could literally be flashbacks from a few weeks ago lol. The MC girl doesn't look that much older and it makes more sense that she could recognize the girl in the street as the boy she liked in highschool if the flashbacks were from a few weeks/months back than YEARS. 2. the boy being drafted by the military could be an excuse BY the military as to why this boy is never seen again to his friends/classmates. So nobody comes looking for him or ask questions after they graduate.(if we go by the theory that the pink haired girl is an undercover agent as a highschool student) 3. if she was a boy disguised as a pink haired girl, why would he do physical training and possibly ruin her disguise (training=more muscle=less feminine). Great interpretation, but I think it's most likely to be a boy dressed up as a girl. Since she's a soldier, it's more logical to disguise himself while encountering an other one if you don't want to make yourself look suspicious. Also...why would she disguise herself in a boy while training ? And finally, I don't know how she would be able to hide her pink hair under the small black wig, but it's possible the other way around. Although it's pretty obvious that the boy is very feminine, maybe there's more to it ?

About the disaster the black orb is definitely absorbing the colors that the sun emits, maybe thats why when they destroyed it, colors appeared out of the orb? also it was blocking the sun's direction, maybe it was to absorb the colors faster?

How is it a "facade"? They're exactly who they wanted to be, and it is who they are, whether a femboy or a trans woman. I think it makes more sense for them to be a girl disguising as a boy, indeed. I was wondering, if he was a boy… why would he allow himself to show his “trueform” at school, but nowhere else (such as the park, the festival, even the train…). I’ve also observed the color palette: when they present theirself as a boy, it’s more sober, while as a girl, everything is more vibrant, even the hair is colorful. That can maybe be related to the lyrics - that says something about finding your true color. The way he looks over the book, at the beginning of the video also seemed suspicious to me, and combined with the other things i said, it made me create the hypothesis that she was actually designated to a mission at school, that she had to leave later on.

She might be disguised as a male high school student because some male in their teenage years does not have deep voices and big bodies also her hair is already short (maybe because in some countries military's hair must not be too long) as for female she will be seen as an older female than a high school female. She wears a wig (pink hair) outside so they won't know it was her. But at the Scene at (0:23), She's most likely getting a Civilian mission from a high ranked intel officer. (Possibly from JSDF High Command or a Intel Officer.) She was given Two Task while under civilian disguise, Survey the city, Provide Intel for the Army and wait for the disaster to come in. And the Scene (0:35) its a JGSDF UH-1 Iroquois Huey, Its uncommon to see a Military Helicopter passing by the city. So they're probably watching the ground for a good entry while knowing theres an incoming attack (which they're preparing for it) and the scene (0:41) they already know its coming fast so they're prepared to take it down as it enters Tachikawa-Kita City. However (1:10) (1:13) the girl and the guy is different person but they're probably blood related die to the eye color and lip matches. I agree it's most likely that they are an agent and or a member of the special forces, this would very much explain the end scene which they walks away to a liaison. Whether it's a boy pretending to be a girl or vice versa, is debatable, wether it's a transgender person, is debatable. I personally think they has some sort of power to shift their body into that of a girl/boy's, this would fit with them being an agent, being able to shape shift your body is the perfect power to have. In reality it have a context: Is an animated musical short about a shy girl who musters up her courage to chase after the guy she fancies. As simple as it sounds, the music video expresses a variety of themes. These themes include fascination, cross-dressing, military drafting, and war. Each of these themes has been creatively explored and demonstrated in the video. The entire video is the POV of the meek girl. It is her fascination and desire for the boy. Meanwhile, the boy does not notice the girl till the very end of the video. Within formal institutions, he dresses up as a guy. However, that is not the case when he is outside. He dresses up as a girl, getting a complete makeover of his appearance. He, dressed as a girl, enjoys his daily life. While he goes on with his life, the girl looks at him from the side. Her fixation grows to such an extent, that he is all she thinks about. She could only look at him from the side. Yet, things did not remain the same. The guy got drafted into the military. It seems that it was through personal connection, rather than an arbitrary choice. The guy moves to do his term. She meets him again while travelling through the metro. This is where things go sour. The metro gets interrupted on its route as there is an explosion somewhere. The scene quickly changes to a war scenario with blasts all around. The girl realizing that she might never get a chance after this runs to the boy. The boy holds the girl as he leaps to save her from a blast. The girl finally confesses her feelings, and as the situation around them grows ever so drastic, the boy kisses her forehead. With this last action, it is clear that this is his farewell, as he walks along with the military to deal with the crisis. The Musical Short tells this story in a vibrant tone of execution. It gives artistic expression to the girl’s daydreaming. On the same note, it provides beauty in the crisis. What’s even more astonishing is the vivid portrayal of acceptance in the short. It is futuristic in this aspect. The boy is shown to be able to continue cross-dressing while still serving his time in the military. One small (albeit very relevant) correction: the person in the training scenes is the dark-haired girl, not the pre-transition or male-presenting view of the pink-haired girl. You can check it by their eye colors: dark haired girl has chestnut-red eyes, while pink hair girl has green eyes. Honestly the only interpretation I can have of the video when talking about both girls is that the pink haired one is most probably a trans woman, that is all. Scenes from school are possibly flashbacks. Tbf I do not care all that much about the military stuff behind the scenes, but oh god to I love this video from a gender perspective, even if I myself am a cis guy.

The only thing for me is whether or not the gink hair girl is trans is that I don't see how you can wear a boy's whig if you've got luscious long hair, but I can see how you can wear a long-haired whig if your original hair is short. I was just really inspired by the story of the girl having to be a boy at school to not seem weird but be herself when she's by herself. What I actually thought was that another civilization was invading the short haired girl city and the pink haired girl was a spy and on that day the invasion happened and after this vid I was like “this is a better theory”

The theory of that person (I will call the person who was most of time the pink haired girl "that person") being an undercover agent is good and has the most possibility of being the truth. But the problems comes that which is that person's gender, I personally think its a girl as normally a person in a time of a disaster won't be disguised but the big question is that WHY is she being disguised. If she is a girl then why would she only disguise herself as a boy in school? And if that person is a he then why would he not only disguise himself in the school ? Now I maybe have 2 explanations to it which are:- 1. Maybe that person needed papers to join the school when that person was not an undercover agent so it was written that person was a male which is true, so that is why he is a male normally in the school since he showed everyone that he is a male from starting. So now when he is an undercover agent he disguises himself to be a girl with a new identity so that no one/thoes who knew him, suspects him and interrupt him between his work as an undercover agent. 2.Maybe that person is actually a girl and has moved to that city to work as an undercover agent. Now since she has to continue her studies, she has joined that school and disguised herself as a boy with a new identity because there the other students/staff will be the one to know her the most since being with her in the same school and if the other students/staff get to know her original identity i.e her girl identity, she will have great problems in her undercover agent mission. I have pretty much the as thought as you. Even I making a video saying pink-haired person is a girl but I personally didn’t assume that person’s gender. If she’s biologically girl: The other theory I have if that person’s a girl is I think the pink-hair person looks like the same age as the protagonist, in that case she has to go to school and live like a normal teenager while working for the military at the same time so she chooses to study to the city that the disaster gonna happen so she can do her work and learn at the school at the same time. She must hide her identity ( and disguise in school might be easier than disguise when she’s working for military) so even after the disaster ended and people saw her when she’s working as a soldier she still can study at school (because people gonna see her when she is a girl so she can still studies at school as a boy but the protagonist recognized her so maybe she won’t gonna go to school anymore) but she has been working with military for a long time, she’s taller and has a stronger body than average high-school girl, ( a lot of girls and women in real life have that type of body too but in animation world it’s the opposite ) she looks stand out from her female classmates so disguise as a male make she not stand out and it harder for other people to suspect pink-hair person. Her body shape is not that of a males. No male looks like that. If a male trains physically, they WILL bulk up regardless of how they initially look. So training is a detriment to her looking female if she was a boy. She's someone in a important position at the least. The soldiers seem to follow her orders or at minimum, they attempt to keep her safe via the various military scenes. They all stand guard as she walks toward the chopper. As if she belongs there, as if, it's natural for her and them. It's clear in this scene, she HAS military ties and everything she's been doing prior to this is related to it.

I think why people are confused was because of the jump and cuts. So in our mind we see it as the timeline was jumping randomly and non-linear. But, when we see it in a linear way. The story made itself clear easily. The character are: Bob-hair girl and Pretty Boy/Girl It's a story about a girl who has a crush on her classmate. One day when she was out with her friends, she sees a Pretty Girl that resembles her classmate, Pretty Boy. Bob-hair try to solve the puzzle on who Pretty Girl is. Is she Pretty Boy sister? Twins? Look-alike? After that, Bob-Hair start to notices Pretty Girl more and fall in love with PG, after some time BH realizes PG and PB are one and the same. Inspired by PG, BH started to do things that interest her just like PG. Unbeknownst to BH, PG was invited/volunteer by/to the military. After that PB was given relief from the school and being announced in the class. After that PG routine are going to training and go home. When the city was attacked, PG was just going to His post when BH following him. PG notices this and save her which BH said something to PG, and PG kisses her to calm her. After that, BH taken by the army and PG joins the fight. Now, is PG was Trans or not? Don't know. Don't care. Doesn't matter. PB was just enjoying their life as PG and nothing else. I see a lot of people thinking it must be a dude, a trans girl, or something like that because of the memes. Let me explain why to me it makes more sense that it's just a girl in disguise. She is seen talking to other people outside of school just 2 times, probably, as said in this interpretation, for the purpose of reporting info to the military. You might say that's when she has to be disguised, but I think it's the opposite. If she hides in school nobody is gonna make questions or try to figure out who she is, because that's the dangerous place. Do you pay more attention to a random girl on the bus or in a cafe or to your classmates who you see everyday? In order to conceal her identity she must not have any friends, meaning she must be a different person at school, some mysterious dude who nobody really knows. An identity she can take on when having to deal with problems. All the while nobody knows who she really is, leaving her free to move around and gather info while also having fun. If she’s biologically girl: The other theory I have if that person’s a girl is I think the pink-hair person looks the same age as the protagonist, in that case, she has to go to school and live like a normal teenager while working for the military at the same time so she chooses to study to the city that the disaster gonna happen so she can do her work and learn at the school at the same time. Considering they purposely show him/her only being happy as the girl and not when he/she is a boy, she is probably a trans. Yess, I completely agree. I even thought of the color palette of the animation (while as a boy, way more grayish, and as a girl, vibrant and colorful). If u combine that with the lyrics (that has something to do with finding ur true color and stuff), u come to the conclusion that their “true version” is the girl with pink hair. - that also collaborates with the theory of her being trans. Plus, at the end, she’s actually wearing an army uniform (a female one), if it doesn’t make sense to train in disguise, it’d make even less to be at the frontline in it. At the train, even, she doesn’t seem to hide her wounds, so i assume it’s not a secret that she’s a soldier since the moment the apocalypse started. After he leaves the school, we just don’t see the boy anymore, meaning that it was indeed some sort of mission she was in, that was accomplished or interrupted due to the circumstances.
@@dorian7692 yeah my theory is that at the beginning, they're a boy who is sent on a mission to do something(probably involved with the disaster) and they dress up as a girl ( they're a boy in school is for 3 reasons, one: if they're a girl in school, then they're disguise will get revealed the second they're in a changing room. 2: as a student the only people you know will be from school, so im guessing you wouldn't want people recognising you outside of school. 3: this one is more of an artistic choice than a practical one, but school is a pretty drab place, like don't get me wrong im all for standard education but I can't deny its a boring place, so the fact that they're only a boy in school, the most boring place in the video, makes sense). Likely it is a biological boy who crossdresses or is trans that way she would have a reason to be in a training bra...Some commenters state there is a stark personality change between male and female persona and could be because of gender euphoria and feeling more free to enjoy everything to the fullest now that she feels like a girl... Since the war or fight against aliens or something blocking the sun and other destruction of buildings and military vehicles is evident of war and such. It would make sense that the trans woman would realize that she would be recruited since she was originally a boy and so she trains even before recruitment...After she agrees to do the recruitment by nodding talking to the guy to protect her precious city and friends in it the school announces that she will be transferred to military by "executive order" and everyone clapped usually people don't clap for a classmate transferring schools but maybe me transferring to 15 schools in my life time is too little of anecdotal experiences...(sarcasm, but my memory is fuzzy maybe they clapped?) It seems odd that a spy would specifically go out of their way to say they are recruited by government or military after already creating their pink hair persona when interacting with almost everyone easier to say the boy persona left the country and the pink girl is someone different... The vagueness is definitely intentional and keeps the audience wondering. Almost embracing both female and male counterparts. In the lighthearted scenes the animation more-so highlighted their feminine beauty accentuating their makeup, clothing and fashion when they were happy. It was interesting to me see how absent it was at the end when the tone became more serious when their facial expression drops. They look more handsome and charming- when they watch the girl get dragged away with a slightly sadistic look! Were they evil? I don’t know know what to make of it but i love it!

You're not that far off from my interpretation. Mine goes like this:
- The scenes where they are both in school are actually flashbacks. These scenes happened years ago, back when pink haired girl was a boy and the other girl had a crush on him at the time.
- Boy is drafted in the military (chalkboard scene), and that was the last time the girl sees him. Years later...
- ....girl recognizes pink-haired girl in the cafe at the start of the video. She knows she looks familiar, then realizes it's the boy from her middle school that she had a crush on.
- After that, the music video is up to your interpretation. Either she's confused figuring out if she likes women too, or she's still trying to figure out if they're the same person.
My interpretation is also the same!
1. I keep seeing people say the flashbacks are years ago but it could literally be flashbacks from a few weeks ago lol. The MC girl doesn't look that much older and it makes more sense that she could recognize the girl in the street as the boy she liked in highschool if the flashbacks were from a few weeks/months back than YEARS.
2. the boy being drafted by the military could be an excuse BY the military as to why this boy is never seen again to his friends/classmates. So nobody comes looking for him or ask questions after they graduate.(if we go by the theory that the pink haired girl is an undercover agent as a highschool student)
3. if she was a boy disguised as a pink haired girl, why would he do physical training and possibly ruin her disguise (training=more muscle=less feminine). Makes more sense that the training scene happened when she was disguised as a highschool boy to look more masculine. (especially since she was still rocking the boy haircut in that scene)

I think it makes more sense for them to be a girl disguising as a boy, indeed. I was wondering, if he was a boy… why would he allow himself to show his “trueform” at school, but nowhere else (such as the park, the festival, even the train…).
I’ve also observed the color palette: when they present theirself as a boy, it’s more sober, while as a girl, everything is more vibrant, even the hair is colorful. That can maybe be related to the lyrics - that says something about finding your true color.

I agree it's most likely that they are an agent and or a member of the special forces, this would very much explain the end scene which they walks away to a liaison. Is an animated musical short about a shy girl who musters up her courage to chase after the guy she fancies. As simple as it sounds, the music video expresses a variety of themes. The entire video is the POV of the meek girl. It is her fascination and desire for the boy. Meanwhile, the boy does not notice the girl till the very end of the video. Within formal institutions, he dresses up as a guy. However, that is not the case when he is outside. He dresses up as a girl, getting a complete makeover of his appearance.
He, dressed as a girl, enjoys his daily life. While he goes on with his life, the girl looks at him from the side. Her fixation grows to such an extent, that he is all she thinks about. She could only look at him from the side. Yet, things did not remain the same. The guy got drafted into the military.
It seems that it was through personal connection, rather than an arbitrary choice. The guy moves to do his term. She meets him again while travelling through the metro. This is where things go sour. The metro gets interrupted on its route as there is an explosion somewhere. The scene quickly changes to a war scenario with blasts all around. The girl realizing that she might never get a chance after this runs to the boy.
The boy holds the girl as he leaps to save her from a blast. The girl finally confesses her feelings, and as the situation around them grows ever so drastic, the boy kisses her forehead. With this last action, it is clear that this is his farewell, as he walks along with the military to deal with the crisis.
The Musical Short tells this story in a vibrant tone of execution. It gives artistic expression to the girl’s daydreaming. On the same note, it provides beauty in the crisis. What’s even more astonishing is the vivid portrayal of acceptance in the short. It is futuristic in this aspect. The boy is shown to be able to continue cross-dressing while still serving his time in the military.

One small (albeit very relevant) correction: the person in the training scenes is the dark-haired girl, not the pre-transition or male-presenting view of the pink-haired girl. You can check it by their eye colors: dark haired girl has chestnut-red eyes, while pink hair girl has green eyes.
Honestly the only interpretation I can have of the video when talking about both girls is that the pink haired one is most probably a trans woman, that is all. Scenes from school are possibly flashbacks.

The theory of that person (I will call the person who was most of time the pink haired girl "that person") being an undercover agent is good and has the most possibility of being the truth.
But the problems comes that which is that person's gender, I personally think its a girl as normally a person in a time of a disaster won't be disguised but the big question is that WHY is she being disguised. If she is a girl then why would she only disguise herself as a boy in school? And if that person is a he then why would he not only disguise himself in the school ?
Now I maybe have 2 explanations to it which are:-
1. Maybe that person needed papers to join the school when that person was not an undercover agent so it was written that person was a male which is true, so that is why he is a male normally in the school since he showed everyone that he is a male from starting. So now when he is an undercover agent he disguises himself to be a girl with a new identity so that no one/thoes who knew him, suspects him and interrupt him between his work as an undercover agent.
2.Maybe that person is actually a girl and has moved to that city to work as an undercover agent. Now since she has to continue her studies, she has joined that school and disguised herself as a boy with a new identity because there the other students/staff will be the one to know her the most since being with her in the same school and if the other students/staff get to know her original identity i.e her girl identity, she will have great problems in her undercover agent mission.
As per me these are the best explanations for it.

I have pretty much the as thought as you. Even I making a video saying pink-haired person is a girl but I personally didn’t assume that person’s gender.
If she’s biologically girl: The other theory I have if that person’s a girl is I think the pink-hair person looks like the same age as the protagonist, in that case she has to go to school and live like a normal teenager while working for the military at the same time so she chooses to study to the city that the disaster gonna happen so she can do her work and learn at the school at the same time. She must hide her identity ( and disguise in school might be easier than disguise when she’s working for military) so even after the disaster ended and people saw her when she’s working as a soldier she still can study at school (because people gonna see her when she is a girl so she can still studies at school as a boy but the protagonist recognized her so maybe she won’t gonna go to school anymore) but she has been working with military for a long time, she’s taller and has a stronger body than average high-school girl, ( a lot of girls and women in real life have that type of body too but in animation world it’s the opposite ) she looks stand out from her female classmates so disguise as a male make she not stand out and it harder for other people to suspect pink-hair person. ( like the scene that the protagonist and pink-haired person waiting to cross the road, the pink-haired person looked much taller than the protagonist but much smaller than male adults behind her so she fit perfectly well to disguise as a high-school boy) That why she looks happier when she’s dress as a girl and surveying around the city because when she studies at school she has to avoid talking to other people but when she’s surveying the city she can act like a normal girl and make a friend outside the school because she isn’t disgusting at that time.( and her friends doesn’t looked like high-school girl but they’re look more like a working woman (because of their clothes ) so the pink-haired person doesn’t look stand out from them )

I doubt that, everyone would have found out she is a tomboy. I think him being a trans is more plausible, this explain the wig and her covering her chest when working out. Note that she is flat-chested like a man.

Want to know my theory? She works for the military in some form and she has to go undercover to gather information. Using multiple appearances is common for spies or intel gatherers. She's flat so it's really easy for her to cross-dress. She's seen constantly talking to various people in cafe's and other meet up spots. Those people are probably her contacts. As she's a soldier, she has to train physically. Her body shape is not that of a males. No male looks like that. If a male trains physically, they WILL bulk up regardless of how they initially look. So training is a detriment to her looking female if she was a boy.
She's someone in a important position at the least. The soldiers seem to follow her orders or at minimum, they attempt to keep her safe via the various military scenes. They all stand guard as she walks toward the chopper. As if she belongs there, as if, it's natural for her and them. It's clear in this scene, she HAS military ties and everything she's been doing prior to this is related to it.
I think she is a girl cause she has one scene where the hair blew and it seems really attached, and maybe the boy part was just her growing hair, and then she just went pink

I think the pink hair girl was a commander of an army who was going to invade the land but needed more info of the place, so they disguised themselves as a school boy and when out in public they would take off their disguise to embrace the place’s culture for some reason, I don’t know why, but this just makes the most sense to me

I feel as a boy itd be a lot harder to walk in heels all the time and to keep the appearance of a girl, while keeping the appearance of a boy by a girl would be a bit easier as theres less going on and necessity to make it realistic.

I think why people are confused was because of the jump and cuts.
So in our mind we see it as the timeline was jumping randomly and non-linear.
But, when we see it in a linear way. The story made itself clear easily.
The character are: Bob-hair girl and Pretty Boy/Girl
It's a story about a girl who has a crush on her classmate. One day when she was out with her friends, she sees a Pretty Girl that resembles her classmate, Pretty Boy. Bob-hair try to solve the puzzle on who Pretty Girl is. Is she Pretty Boy sister? Twins? Look-alike? After that, Bob-Hair start to notices Pretty Girl more and fall in love with PG, after some time BH realizes PG and PB are one and the same. Inspired by PG, BH started to do things that interest her just like PG.
Unbeknownst to BH, PG was invited/volunteer by/to the military. After that PB was given relief from the school and being announced in the class. After that PG routine are going to training and go home. When the city was attacked, PG was just going to His post when BH following him. PG notices this and save her which BH said something to PG, and PG kisses her to calm her. After that, BH taken by the army and PG joins the fight.
Now, is PG was Trans or not? Don't know. Don't care. Doesn't matter.
PB was just enjoying their life as PG and nothing else. In the end he also the one who joins the military, and not being forced on. Because if he was being forced on, the other classmate should be in the military as well, and no they're not in the military.

2. The gym scene is PB from their Ahoge and less fluffy hair.

I see a lot of people thinking it must be a dude, a trans girl, or something like that because of the memes. Let me explain why to me it makes more sense that it's just a girl in disguise.
She is seen talking to other people outside of school just 2 times, probably, as said in this interpretation, for the purpose of reporting info to the military. You might say that's when she has to be disguised, but I think it's the opposite. If she hides in school nobody is gonna make questions or try to figure out who she is, because that's the dangerous place. Do you pay more attention to a random girl on the bus or in a cafe or to your classmates who you see everyday? In order to conceal her identity she must not have any friends, meaning she must be a different person at school, some mysterious dude who nobody really knows. An identity she can take on when having to deal with problems. All the while nobody knows who she really is, leaving her free to move around and gather info while also having fun.
But why thw gym scene then? I have no clue, if someone can help me fill this void I'd really appreciate it.
Back to the theory, she is taken by storm when the girl starts questioning her and the war bursts out. If she was a guy all along it would have made more sense to take off the wig in the middle of a battlefield. Also, I think her uniform would be a little different.
I also saw a lot of people commenting that she would be unable to hide her pink hair, but lemme tell you, I've seen girls hiding way more.

Even though I made a video saying the pink-haired person was a girl I didn’t assume that person’s gender.
If she’s biologically girl: The other theory I have if that person’s a girl is I think the pink-hair person looks the same age as the protagonist, in that case, she has to go to school and live like a normal teenager while working for the military at the same time so she chooses to study to the city that the disaster gonna happen so she can do her work and learn at the school at the same time. She must hide her identity ( and disguise in school might be easier than disguise when she’s working for the military) so even after the disaster ends and people see her when she’s working as a soldier she still can study at school (because people are going see her when she is a girl so she can still studies at school as a boy but the protagonist recognized her so maybe she won’t gonna go to school anymore) but she has been working with the military for a long time, she’s taller and has a stronger body than an average high-school girl, ( a lot of girls and women in real life have that type of body too but in the animation world, it’s the opposite ) she looks stand out from her female classmates so disguise as a male make she not stand out and it harder for other people to suspect pink-hair person. ( like the scene where the protagonist and the pink-haired person waiting to cross the road, the pink-haired person looks much taller than the protagonist but much smaller than the male adults behind her so she fits perfectly well to disguise as a high-school boy) That is why she looks happier when she’s dress as a girl and surveying around the city because when she studies at school she has to avoid talking to other people but when she’s surveying the city she can act like a normal girl and make a friend outside the school because she isn’t disgusting at that time. (Her friends don’t look like high-school girls but they look more like working women (because of their clothes ) so the pink-haired person doesn’t stand out from them )
And for a gym scene, I think it is because the pink-haired girl’s working out in the public gym at that time, I don’t know why she would do that but the gym scene at 1:30 in the MV, at that time shows a pink-haired girl from a protagonist’ pov ( I don't know how to explain ) so I think she is in a place where a protagonist can see her.
If he’s biologically boy: if that person is biologically boy, he has been studying in this school for a long time so when he’s secretly joined the military, he disguises himself as a girl when he’s on his surveying mission so other people in the school won’t interrupt him. Or she started to question her gender but she can’t dress as she likes at school ( maybe because of her friends )so she’s dressed as a boy at school and she’s dressed as a girl outside the school because no one gonna recognize her anyway (except the protagonist). It can explain why she looks happier when she's dressed as a girl too.
And the gym scene will make sense.
I don’t know if it’s possible or not to hide long hair under a wig but I think it must be hard so why they didn’t cut their hair if the long hair is real hair, not a wig?
But I wonder if they have short hair and wear long hair wigs why their wig never falls off because there are a lot of scenes where the wind’s strong, and, for me, it’s kind of too strong for a wig especially if a wig’s that long but instead they still dancing around and they even wear a wig in the middle of combat but the wig still never falls off. Or maybe it’s just an anime logic?
The workout scene is what that shot down this theory, because he/she doesn't have the pink hair meaning its a wig.
Considering they purposely show him/her only being happy as the girl and not when he/she is a boy, she is probably a trans.

Yess, I completely agree. I even thought of the color palette of the animation (while as a boy, way more grayish, and as a girl, vibrant and colorful). If u combine that with the lyrics (that has something to do with finding ur true color and stuff), u come to the conclusion that their “true version” is the girl with pink hair. - that also collaborates with the theory of her being trans.
Plus, at the end, she’s actually wearing an army uniform (a female one), if it doesn’t make sense to train in disguise, it’d make even less to be at the frontline in it.
At the train, even, she doesn’t seem to hide her wounds, so i assume it’s not a secret that she’s a soldier since the moment the apocalypse started.

@@dorian7692 yeah my theory is that at the beginning, they're a boy who is sent on a mission to do something(probably involved with the disaster) and they dress up as a girl ( they're a boy in school is for 3 reasons, one: if they're a girl in school, then they're disguise will get revealed the second they're in a changing room. 2: as a student the only people you know will be from school, so im guessing you wouldn't want people recognising you outside of school. 3: this one is more of an artistic choice than a practical one, but school is a pretty drab place, like don't get me wrong im all for standard education but I can't deny its a boring place, so the fact that they're only a boy in school, the most boring place in the video, makes sense).
