      in the first episode, the dad at the bday party calls him a pinko, basically a leftist or communist. I think his arc is more representative of how in leftist circles it's easy to become jaded and angry and how that's a dangerous mindset to have. Lucy is more or less a liberal, raised with a naive view of the world, thinking her way of life is better or more civilized than those on the surface. and throughout out the show we begin to understand just HOW evil the corporations were. almost to the point it's difficult to comprehend. it's easy to look at the cruelty of The Ghoul when he eats his friend and detest it, but he's not eating his friend because he's evil, he does it because it is what is necessary to survive in the world that vault tec and the other corporations intentionally created.

      Just played Fallout 4 last year for the first time with probably a 100 mods right from the get go. The main story line was the worst I have seen in any media for a very long time. Any sidequest, log entry, environmental storytelling and evil sidekick was more interesting. It was fun but I never really cared enough to finish it. And let's not get started about the Preston gang - almost had me quit before the the fun actually started. Great physics though, pushing a shopping cart full of loot instead of overloading your inventory felt really neat.

      @foxyfoxington2651 3 месяца назад

      Really? Because for me it felt a like they were struggling to capture the absurd dark humor, especially early on. They definitely started to get it by the end (at least in respect to the post-war era), but I don't think they ever really nailed it in the pre-war segments. This is a world where literally all scientists are literally mad scientists from 1950s sci-fi movies, so the attempt to insert some kind of serious social commentary felt really out of place. Fallout has always approached its commentary by taking things to their absolute most absurd extreme. The "concerned citizen" aspect was way too restrained, IMO.

One of the many areas that the show, at least initially, has elements sanded down to be expanded on later so that the outsider audience can get acclimated. My bet is season 2 we shift flash-back characters to Lucy's dad who as a vault tech employee would be dealing much more directly with all the crazy scientist stuff. Plus Mr. House will probably be a major player which furthers a lot of wacky pre-war stuff.

    I think Fallout does what some game adaptations can't. It's able to authentically convey not only the atmosphere of the game, but also the tone with all of its satire, darkness and, in some situations, the absurdity of the situations occurring in the game. The level of fan service for Fallout players is incredible, perhaps the best attention to details on my memory. And in general, you may like the main characters, although not all of them are good people, for example Ghoul. I liked Cooper Howard's story the most from all 3 main characters, it really fits the Fallout universe as a whole. For me, this is the best adaptation of a game on the Arcane level. Lucy's character and main motivation callback to both the Vault Dweller and Lone Wanderer while Cooper is kind of like a combination of the Courier and the Sole Survivor since he's a man who's witnessed the past world and is searching for his family while also being this loose canon who is super detached from his past personality after a major event that changed him. Maximus is honestly the most unique Fallout protagonist out of the 3 since his allegiance is with the Brotherhood Of Steel which is something we haven't had since Fallout Tactics and the other Brotherhood Of Steel game.

    The ghoul is the most interesting character to me. He went from your basic good-ish guy just sort of flowing along with life to someone that was aware of the greed around him but, as of when the war happened, not able - or not trying - to do anything about it. When Lucy comes on the scene it's clear he's been ground down to where it appears there may be nothing good left in him. But there are a couple clues that's not the case. He doesn't use violence without purpose, and more importantly he saves Dogmeat. There's still a spark. By the end of season one we see the spark has grown, just a little. I do hope he's on a redemption arc. I love a good redemption arc and he seems worthy.

In a life that’s 300 years old he would surely have had gotten used to coincidences by now,but that he suspected Lucy was not just a decedent of Hank but more closely related to him would imply that he was somewhat aware of Valt-Tech having a long term storage plan.

    Fallout 4 ghouls have it great. They used to be rotting, smelling, decaying sacks of meat. Their only perks being an extended lifespan and a resistance to radiation that slowly turned them feral. Come Fallout 4 and they all seem to have no flesh decay whatsoever. They live for centuries, apparently do not need to eat, drink or breathe if the boy in the fridge or the Overseer of Vault 88 is any indication, and the discrimination they face has been dialled down considerably. What was once a curse is now a way to gain some nice superpowers.

      I mean, I understand the appeal of the earlier ghoul aesthetic, but Fallout 4 and the show have more realistic-looking takes on it. Fallout is absurd, yes, but in the real world, when someone's constantly having open sores not covered by skin, they're going to die of infection or sepsis. Fallout 4 and the show feature ghouls covered in scar tissue rather than open wounds, which is a lot more believable.

    Finished watching this 2 nights ago, and yeah, it was so much better than I originally expected. I think you captured what made it so good, and that's that it developed original and compelling characters whose stories and motivations you really want to follow along with. It avoided the pitfall another forgettable adaptation might have where it tries to reproduce something directly from the games and leans too heavily on referential material. Which is funny because the same people whining about this show ruining canon or whatever would probably also whine about a show like that not getting everything perfectly accurate. I think this show has wide enough appeal to be enjoyed by people completely unfamiliar with the games (as it was with my friend who watched it together with me), which hopefully gives it enough staying power to finish telling the story they want to tell.

    While Walter Goggins as the Ghoul is the gem of the show. Ella Purnell is just as good, and just as sharp. So happy these two characters are joining up for now, their dynamic works so well off each other.

    This show had no business being as good as it was, maybe it's because I thought the last few fallout games and starfield was so meh. Hope they don't mess up season 2 but indeed make it even better
