Very informative. The child I sponsor lives in a mining area, that is one of the reasons I selected him. I pray many would turn to the Lord to end child labor and take action.

My grandfather had to drop put of school and work in a factory 6 days a week during the depression.
One day a week, he avidly watched a drummer and learned to read music and play the drums.
At age 14 he started drumming in bands, and was soon making more on a weekend than his father made in a week.
That story ended happily, but he was in a country where there were options, still.
Kids in these poor countries have no options.

Since Compassion has been booted out of India more children are suffering. The picture of the Indian boy with the indigo skin makes me sick. Several years ago, I heard a nun speak out against Nike who used child labor. Sending extra money to the children in the Compassion program is very helpful since they often buy animals which produce food and income. Feed My Starving Children always needs money and volunteers to package their bulk dried foods which go to countries most in need.

It is unfortunate that child labor is on a high increase and also unfortunate that in some countries, the economy keeps getting worse leading to extreme poverty. We have seen in most cases POVERTY is the root cause of child labor and there is a need to intervene and provide support to families. I also believe strongly that the government has a major role to play to fight child labor and ensure the rights of children are protected. Every child must be supported to fulfil their potential.

Instead of "doing research" wouldn't a better call to action be to boycott certain products where there's no way to get them without child labor?

Hey! I hope people do consider using their power as a consumer to vote with their money by boycotting certain companies. For most people, they won't know where to even start without first doing some research to figure out which companies are better than others in this area. There are several nonprofits who release an "Ethical Fashion Report" each year that captures the most and least ethical companies, which is really helpful starting place!
