Chocolate's Child Slaves? Secrets of the Chocolate Industry

- Опубликовано: 24 янв 2022
- In 2001, the lucrative chocolate industry, due to pressure from NGOs, committed itself to putting an end to child labour in cacao plantations before 2006. 18 years later, has that promise been kept? The Ivory Coast, the world’s largest cacao producer, made a real effort to eradicate this scourge on the country. They built schools and trained farmers. Television adverts even reminded populations that child labour is illegal. So why does child exploitation still exist? Further into isolated areas of the forest, at the end of near-impassable roads, Paul Moreira discovered child slaves, forced to work in plantations, their incomes often seized by traffickers. These child slaves are separated from their parents and sometimes resold onto other traffickers.
This film was first released in 2019.

This big Chocolate companies selling very expensive of their products and paying very little to the worker, Shame!!! 😡
Please help them especially the children. They deserve more.
Who will help them, exactly ?
@@demoncloud6147 I have devoted my master's dissertation in 2021 to help shed the light on the child labour crisis in the cocoa supply chain in Ghana. I achieved a Distinction and I am still researching how to use innovative technologies to generate income opportunities for farmers.
Those people attending that event in Davos are just plain hypocrites.
No in the end it is us that are hypocrites
@@NECNetwork no it's the WEFFIES.
Never looked at chocolate and phones the same way 😢
Africa motherland gives everything to there people but there is no proper authorities nor governments good it hard to see those children suffer, poor little soul
Shoutout to Mr Beast for outsourcing child slavery to make his chocolate.
Lol
Please let this video reach more people RUclips
I’m never eating chocolate again!
Being rich on somebody´s misery is pathetic in the XXI century. It is unfair and miserable for those who suffer for a few´s wealth!!! Let us avoid eating all these products!!!
The soul-less, rehearsed advertising bs lines those people say like robots when asked questions. God. I'm vegan for the animals and trying to learn all the plant foods I need to boycott. I don't trust a fair trade label anymore than I trust a humane label on a piece of an animal's flesh. Thanks to the activists making this film. Gotta love when you ask about human rights and you get the word "sustainability" thrown at you in response.
What is Cooper web?
May their government do something about the farmers welfare.
Hahaahahahahahahhaha
This is 100% gov approved
bhai keep going keep grownig love it🤩🤩🤩💥💥
Corporate greed, capitalism is disgusting!!!
Pure lies about the Corporation!!!!
It's Corporatism. All goes traces back to one or 2 corporations
the problem with consumers is that they will watch this and forget about it the next day ....
I'm never eating chocolate again, not to mention it would be better for my health as I don't even need it
@@charleychristie4260 we need more people like you.. show it to family and friends and spread the message

This video has opened my eyes!! I will not buy chocolate which is actually good for me.
Couldn't this apply to everything tho? The food you eat, the cotton you wear, the cobalt in batteries in electronics
That's exactly what they want you to do, not eat chocolate b/c it is good for us.
None of what is claimed here is actual proof of it being the truth.
.
How are they anymore slaves than I was at 13 flipping burgers on a hot grill and packing gallon ice bucket
for a 1.60 and hour?
You talking about the kid who wasn’t paid for 5 years and couldn’t see his parents? Or the other ones who have no school or credible home to go to? Or the chemicals that will probably harm them for a while? Unless I misspoke and you to had no home or school to go to and dealt with chemicals for years. Then I’m sorry you went through that. And I’d rather flip burgers for money than work in a forest for food, also gonna assume since you had no parents you had to pay a fee at the hospital when you got sick at the end of the year. I’m sorry for you
That’s why the Bible say it will be hard for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of heaven!
But rich Vatican can, eh those sitting on all the gold and owning all the land
and still passing the basket around.
Call to action from this film? I assume boycott all chocolate?
I love seeing this kind of "people" work. It's so rare that you get to see this.
So evil you are
You like slavery? 🤔🤔
Capitalism ruins EVERYTHING😐
Slavery isn't capitalism dummy. We'd be living in the stone age without capitalism
@@karl7870 no we'd be in feudalism, which was before capitalism. Even if we never had money, we'd be better off with socialism. But you don't want to believe that. You think human nature is capitalism. You refuse to believe that we can work together. You want to be the next rich billionaire so you can do nothing but waste resources and feel good about yourself.
Lack of global social constraints is a bigger problem. But yeah, capitalist corporation exploit it. They shouldn't be allowed to, but people like their cheap Hershey's
@@alexpavalok430 hersheys hardly contains any real chocolate. they use a synthetic 'cocoa product' that is chemical in nature now.
most actual chocolate is exported to european brands. Hersheys is fake chocolate made in labs and sour milk.

Child slavery and deforestation... Please, buy only fairtrade chocolate
Who is behind fair trade, who get rich on that?
They should grow weed instead and sell to all the weed legal states and countries. Then at least the planters can enjoy the final product unlike chocolate.
