Every time I see an early Marvel direct from 1979 I always check to see if it is from June 1979. I feel that is an incredibly underrated part of comic history very few collect. It is fun to collect my birth month, fun to collect November 1986's Marvel's 25th anniversary border. This is just another fun month to put together with smaller print runs and probably a sample of books that came from the early shops.

My family thinks I’m weird for watching these videos. But I could sit for hours and soak up all this comic book knowledge.

Great episode. I remember the comic book 3-packs on a rack in my local Kroger grocery store. An entire rack of nothing but Star Wars #1-3 (the reprints obviously). Another rack of 3-packs with Firestorm #2 (Superman on cover) on one side and Detective #477 on the other (can't recall what the middle book was). This would have been the summer of '78.

Wow, first time here. That was an amazing interview. I learned so much about comics, Marvel, newsstands vs. direct. I mean, wow. Just got back into collecting. I feel you on spec vs invest. That’s what I’m stuck between myself. Should I start by finishing collections or investing in spec? Also, fear of missing out. Who doesn’t want to have the hottest comic but how long will that last and are you will to even spend time doing that? Sorry for the rant, this was so great to start my morning.

For a long time people have claimed that the Whitman Variants where reprints or 2nd prints. Jim Shooter has stated in many interviews that the Newsstand Editions, Direct Editions & Whitman Variants where all printed at the same time, all they did was change the plate that had the price/corner box/barcode. I spent many years trying to fix these variants in the Grand Comics Database.

Great video. Maybe finally put that “early direct market” stuff to bed? Probably not haha. They’ll always be Whitmans to me!

First Happy New Year! (yep pushing that boundary)
So I've been on a little hiatus, but I'm back. Please hold the applause. I've been catching up on some of what I missed and you guys are still doing good work.
Love all the Chuck videos. I've always found him to be an interesting guy and his stories are always good.
Some of my comments from my catching up...
Yes this is a "Old guy" comic channel, but like I say you're either getting older or you're dead...
For my 2022 comic goals I'm going to start focusing on more silver age Spidey. Mid grade stuff that's affordable, but what I think is important (ASM 38, 39, 42 96, etc).
Also, and probably the biggest change, I've decided to go digital for a lot of comics. Just don't have the room anymore.
As for my worst comic I'd have to say it's one of my more recent comics. G-Men 1. The NY Giants and Marvel crossover.

I know the interview is done, but if you ever interview him again, I would like to know about his succession plan. What will happen to Mile High Comics when he is no longer active as a dealer, for whatever reason. Will someone take over the business? Will the inventory be sold off in bulk to other dealers? I am curious because he says he invested $5 million just cataloging the comics into his database, so to recover that money, the books need to be sold through the Mile High database.

Black Panther #3 pricing is CRAZY!! Not substantiated at all!! It'll be $50 to $75 in 4-6 months. Maybe less if this dude doesn't appear in the MCU. This price pump smells manipulated. Chuck's interview is great!! Glad to hear the Direct vs Newsstand matter cleared up!! :) Great video guys! Have a great week!!

That tells of Asgaard number one was re-print it in the 80s and I have a copy of that. I’m wondering how many reprints of reprints either out there

I found a jungle action 21 on eBay for a great price, I immediately paid for it, the item is marked as shipped. I’m in college so finding such a good price was so rewarding after waiting months on the book. 2 hours later I get refunded because of a “lost or damaged item”, the seller tells me they accidentally listed it too low and they’re going to relist it, was pretty much the biggest bummer. Contacted eBay and they said they reported the seller for improper use of the function but they can’t force them to list it at that price again.

Bleeding Cool said Tosin was the next Miles Morales, and then the hype commenced. He could be a great character, but Miles Morales is a darling because there is a sense of destiny that he (as a person of color) will one day replace Peter Parker as Spider-Man in the MCU (or Sonyverse). He became popular after replacing Peter in the Ultimate Universe, and since then the speculation has only accelerated. Peter Parker Spider-Man is the most likeable superhero character (with the highest grossing single hero movie), and if one day he is replaced by Miles Morales, the sky is the limit for that character. A legacy Black Panther will never rise to the same prominence.

Regarding your previous episode and trading comics. Never, never, ever trade any of your books that have any significant value. One day when you try to sell the book you've traded for, you'll pay dearly when it comes to Taxes. Here is an example. Imagine you traded a bunch of books for a Hulk 181 CGC 9.8. Lets say, at the time of the trade the value of the Hulk 181 was $80k and you gave the other party an equivalent value in books. Now, you have your nice copy of the Hulk 181, but you don't have any receipt/documentation that states the purchase value of the book. This means you essentially obtained the book at zero cost to you (at least as far as the IRS is concerned). Some time later (about 2 years), you sell the book for $100k. The IRS will require you to pay taxes on the entire $100k. Had you purchased the book (i.e. ebay, comiclink, etc.) for $80k, you would have valid proof of the purchase price and hence would only have to pay taxes on the profit you would have made at the time of the sale ($100k - $80k), which would be $20k. Paying taxes on $20k instead of $100k is far easier on your wallet :)

I don't know if you're in the minority or not, but that's certainly not my feeling. I'd rather hear Chuck go on for another 20 hours than watch 10 seconds of NFT stuff myself.
