I agree on the Masterworks. Getting rid of all my Omni's, just way too bulky to enjoy. What I would REALLY like would be for Marvel to reprint all (OK, most) of their individual comics from the '60s as single-issue facsimiles ... _in newsprint._
Man I am torn. This banana-gate stuff is at an incredibly unfortunate time. I wanted to send some books in for some upcoming signature series events, but I’m debating opting out for now. I want the sigs but just don’t know if it’s worth the risk of bends 😞
Please stop talking about CGC and slabbing books. It's not important. About that TMNT #62. That's not the last issue of TMNT on Mirage ever. It's the last issue of TMNT Vol. 1 on Mirage. Mirage did 2 other volumes of Turtles later in the 90s.
Awesome show fellas!! Really dug the Marvel Team up #141 info!! Didn't know that issue is the actual first appearance of the black suit( along with Spectacular Spiderman) I always thought it was tied with ASM #252, now we know. Btw fellas, that is an Art Adams And Mike Mignola cover!! Odd yet awesome pairing. Keep up the good work fellas!!
Enjoyable show, as always. The inks in the cover to Sgt. Fury issue 5 are by George Roussos, aka George Bell. His first time inking the cover of that title. Kudos for recalling the Virginia Slims slogan. The folks from CBCS or PGX need to make a parody of the ads for medications that treat Peyronue’s disease, with some sad-looking fellows holding up slabs and asking “what causes a curve _in there_ ?”
I’m not a CGC apologist but I think in the case of that ghost rider slab it strains credulity that such a mild bend in the book would accentuate that tick in any meaningful way; in other words it seems physically impossible to MAKE it break color when it didn’t before, just by bending it like 10 degrees or whatever it was. This is coming from a guy (me) that has had (and sold, with full disclosure) 9.8’s that have severe rippling through the entire book in the holder; at the time I thought it was a weird case of moisture “reversion” or something from the press, but now I know my books were being BANANA’D!! 😱😂 What a time to be alive, eh?
I recently became a victim in the secondary market while buying a CGC 9.8 slabbed comic. Unfortunately, there are two large bends on the back cover that don't break color (thankfully), but they weren’t visible in the listing photos. Going forward, I'll be sure to ask if a CGC slab has bends on the inner well before purchasing. This experience is yet another reason why I stopped using CGC for slabbing.
Thx for discussing CGC membership renewal. Mine is coming up and I still have a $150 credit. Have a nice Devilina 1 just sitiing in a box. Can move it from a raw box to a graded box in a different closet. Add a few other magazines to the submission and the universe is aligned once more.
Oh John , dising Killraven, my favorite character. I do believe that terminator got there story from here. Amazing Adventures had a gem with this character. I miss him. I think it could have been a 200 issue run.
Jason Goodman's plans for Atlas-Seabord actually began in 2010 but, due to several instances of incompetence over trademark ownership, nothing much happened until 2019. Now it looks like things are moving forward but if a Devilina movie is ever made, I'm sure it will bear little resemblance to the source material. #1 of the title does have some nice art by Pablo Marcos and Leo Duranona in a couple of the stories. By the way, I always thought Devilina was more a Satana rip-off. To be fair, there were some great creative talents in the first couple of issues of most titles but they didn't hang around once the company started not paying them. From what I've read, Gothic Romances (1 issue, magazine size) is the hardest Atlas-Seabord book to find. Excellent point Richard, one's personal grails can be even more important than the comics worth lots of money; the emotional connection and the attached memories are priceless.
I think CGC is getting slammed with returns right now. I sent back a book for a label issue (not the bending issue), and shows delivered on 8/27. But it still hasn’t been entered in the system, even though mechanical errors are usually expedited. I called this week and asked about the status and they mentioned they are still processing last week’s receipts. This is probably hurting them more than the other scandals because of the sheer volume of books involved and the ease at identifying the problem to trigger a return. I myself have started sending half a dozen books with the bending issue that I received over the last couple of months. This could get very bad very quickly.
Ohh this CGC situation only thing that will hurt CGC is stopping submissions CGC never seems to catch any flaws in the process until it’s returned and the owner has to say something like when you had the chamber paper sticking out how does that go unnoticed
Dudes, Thanks for providing an entertaining, positive and politics-free comics zone. I'm here for the comics shuckin' and jivin'. I just unsubscribed from two other CBC YT channels when they brought up politics on their LIVE show.
Great episode gents. Really glad for all the attention on banana gate, it needs to be done. Also love that two issues I wouldn’t give up were highlighted: TMNT 62 and that Spirit 16, which I recently picked up for the Bruce Timm cover.
I've got that Hembeck. I read it over and over, and then later in life actually became familiar with a lot of the comics history he talks about in it. On the black suit, I remember trying to explain someone on Reddit a while back about the fact that in one month all the heroes "went" to the Secret War and then the next month they all came back, and then we spent 12 months finding out all of the things that happened in-between.
LOL! Geez, guys. Second Best Bob just told you he just read Love and Rockets for the first time. You now told him what's going to happen to an important character and spoiled it for him. It's like going to a movie and the guy next to you says: "Man, this guy dies at the end, sucks to be him." Well, it now sucks to be Second Best Bob. Well done, guys 😆
Why stop submitting entirely? Just submit to CBCS instead.

Was that Spirit cover by Bruce Timm?
It is indeed!
@@BronzeAndModernGodsnot too long ago I heard someone say Bruce Timm is the next Dave Stevens….

Great show, guys! John - love that reholdered Love & Rockets!
The first appearance of KILLRAVEN (Amazing Adventures #18 1970 2nd series) features 11 pages of interior art by Neal Adams...
Just sayin'.

That Team-Up cover is Art Adams with Mike Mignola inks. Interesting combo. They actually both also teamed up for some pages in Secret Wars.
Enjoyable show, as always.

For those hard to get or most likely never get grails I call those the holy grails.

The ironic thing is someone has to be the submission guinea pigs in order for the majority of the community feels secure again with CGC 😅😅
I don't understand why folks are still dealing with them. Use another grader.
