CurlyPenny Hello, I have wavy hair and on the day I wash it when I brush while it's wet it looks really wavy and beautiful after it dries, I almost get beach waves but the next day it looks very tangled, dry and shapeless. I want to avoid brushing it when it's dry but sometimes I have to and then it becomes puffy. How do I make it to stay beautifully wavy and conditioned on the days after washing it, I can't wash my hair everyday, it's already bleached and dry...
kiss4strawberry 1. Try scrunching with a microfiber towel 2. If it’s really dry, try using oils, like, coconut oil, back castor oil, and some moisturizer 3. Try a home remedy, I like to out aloe Vera in my hair 4. Avoid sulfates and silicones in your shampoo and conditioner, (always check ingredients) 5. Try switching to a silk pillow case, and wrap your head at night so it won’t get frizzy 6. Put water and conditioner in a spray bottle, and lightly damp your hair when you don’t wash it 7. Try putting eggs in your hair about once a week, because if you die your hair, you need more protein 8. LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!

I just went natural well... after realizing I got the wrong products. Some were curly hair approved but the Cantu leave in I got was silicone and sulfate infested; (side note) which idk how they fit them both in there? 🤔🤷 Along with my dandruff shampoo and conditioner. However, they worked wonders with mine and stayed pretty good. The conditioner was the same one she used but different ingredients Orange yellowish bottle: curl activated, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, and coconut. Leave in was Argan oil, so you'd think all of this is good for your hair. As for going natural, my hair turned out like you said a bit this way without some of them. None the less, it's getting better as you train it so there may be hope for those who do use them and want to go natural. Idk, everyone's hair is different but it's not impossible!
-Drink more water -Don’t use gels (just don’t moisturize, only keep your frizz frizzy and locks your hair into a hard state) -only use conditioner as a shampoo (unless it’s really hydrating) -after a shower wrap ur hair in a cotton T-shirt -put some oil on your scalp before bed once a week -don’t straighten, blow dry, bleach, perm etc your hair for a while (I’d recommend a full year) -eat healthier -only detangle when your hair is drenched in water -deep condition once every 1-2 weeks -get outside more (air has to circulation around and get into your body and scalp/hair follicles)
my hair used to be super dry and frizzy until i cut it and stopped washing it so much, and started washing it in cooler water. play around with different things and see what makes your hair happy!
same and because of that you never know how your hair will look one day it’s curly the next it’s straight then it’s wavy and then it’s all at once at this point I’m over my weird ass hair jesus I wish I just had straight hair my life would be so much easier
Comments I get about my curly hair that kill me: - “omg I want curly hair it’s soo pretty!” No you don’t it’s painful - “why don’t you brush your hair everyday?” Do you wanna see what happens when I brush my hair dry? - “why don’t you leave your hair down and natural?” The minute I step outside it grows twice the size with extra frizz and everything -“you’re so lucky.. straight hair is so boring..” There’s a thing called curling your hair which takes a solid 10 minutes. Straightening takes me over an hour - “my hair is curly too!” AHAHAHA you call that curly? That looks like a few strands of waves. Try a whole head of disaster -“it’s easy to maintain curly hair.. just add some water and- STOP ... just stop
I don’t have curly hair like Penny but oh my goodness, those towel turbans are a joke. For the longest time, I’ve seen people on tv rock a towel turban and thought it was normal. I couldn’t understand why my hair was looking frizzy afterwards. Finally I read a magazine article saying to pat your hair dry.
Dudeeee when i leave my hair natural and i say "ugh why is it so tangled on this part" and the other person says "why dont you brush it then" "i cant brush it cuz its gonna get super frizzy" "Oh come on im sure itll be okay" LIKE OMG HOW DO I EVEN REACT IDK
ZoomedUpWorld React with a picture of when you brushed it one time and also just say that you definitely know from unpleasant past experiences. Also, you can detangle it with your fingers or a pick.
Why am I here. I've never once had curly hair. I also don't understand almost all of these. But I'm learning because in the future I want to be a hairstylist, specifically for natural hair, african american hair, curly hair, etc. If anyone has some good resources for learning, or simply pointers please tell me! Textured and curly hair fascinates me as it can do things my thin, sleek, straight/wavy hair could never do. Like braids and stuff. Please help me learn any info I can.
Hi! When it comes to curly hair, sulfate free and silicone free products are a MUST. Deep conditioning is super important too. No brushing, a wide tooth comb us enough or even fingers.
@ItsJust Me I think that was needlessly negative and discouraging for someone who just shared her dream and is doing all she can to learn as much as possible so she's the best at her job...us curlies should encourage people like her, maybe we wouldn't have to educated every freaking hairdresser we meet on the needs of our hair!!
Luxie Kira She has gotten this question a lot and has said she's not the best person to ask. She just eats healthy, drinks a lot of water, and doesn't wear foundation/makeup. Hope this helps 😊
When I was younger 6-12 I would brush out my hair EVEYDAY and thought it’s just frizzy like whatever and I kinda sorta liked it Idk I also would wash my hair with the driest shampoo ever and a conditioner that like A two on one bull crap thing I would blow DRY MY HAIR WITH OUT A DIFFUSER But I’m sorry curly haired gods I have sinned But I care for my HAIR Sooo SOOO MUCH LOVE to my hair right now I care for my hair like it’s my entire world I did so much research omg
That was me before I started the curly girl method. My husband used to say I had horrible dry hair. I finally did my research, you tubed curly girls and checked out the book. It has changed my hair life forever. Thank you so much Curly Penny, love from Texas
This video was actually so helpful!!!! I have curly hair and i didnt even know about half of the stuff in this video!! Can someone please tell me the best shampoos/conditioners??? Also the best leve-in conditioners?? Thx!!
i would recommend shea moisture, briogeo, verb as well as living proof for wavy/curly hair. Stick to shampoo only on the scalp and condition only your lengths to prevent scalp buildup and dried out hair. Also, use a sulfate shampoo once every one week to a month (depending on how whether you get buildup or not) to cleanse off any potential buildup. good luck with your hair:)
try home made deep conditoners!! or buy natural tubs or shea butter, coconut oil, stuff that has no sulphates, parabens, dyes, ect! i hope you find a way :)
My hair looks exactly like the end result😭💔 I never thought it looked so dull until you compared between the two pictures. Sadly there aren’t sulphate/ silicon free options where I live so I guess I’m doomed with dull hair. Really appreciate the video thank you for taking the risk😂🙏🏽
There aren't many options for me either (try finding Cantu and Shea Moisture in Sweden lol) but I find most of my hair products in small african/indian stores. You can maybe do a quick Google search to find any in your city or ask any naturals around (in my experience there is always a small general store with these products in every city)
Maybe you can try some baby shampoo, it has the softest surfractants ( but then don't use silicones at all, because this shampoo is so mild it can't wash cones very well). It works for me because my hair is more wavy-curly than curly and cowash is too heavy for me, give it a try!
I use the same products yikes (minus the hairspray)...I like my hair the way it is but I'm trying to shift over to better products as I can afford them.
My hair looks like yours after you did everything wrong, sadly I’m not old enough to get a job and buy good conditioner without the bad stuff in it. My mom gets us conditioner with the damaging ingredients in it( it’s the same brand as the stuff you said NOT to buy), and when I try to explain to her why we need better conditioner, she doesn’t listen and says the good ones are to expensive. What should I do?
You don't need super expensive 'good' conditioner! You can make do with what you have for now until you can get the better stuff! The rest of her channel has plenty of tips for curly hair that should work for you. :D I know Penny has recommended regular suave and vo5, it's because they can work just fine too in a pinch.
I have hair just like yours, but my mom was the one that used to do my hair when I was little. So my hair has been beaten up and fallen out and I looked like a burnt chicken nugget (she grew up with straight hair, so...). I would love to thank you for teaching me this beautiful curly hair religion, I will forever praise you, the curly hair gawd.
Somehow i got curly hair, which i definitely do not mind. Before having curly hair, i used to have straight hair, so somehow when i got it, i just did my straight hair routine. Now i understand what i have been doing wrong this whole time! Thank you so much for this video since it definitely helped!
so true... my curly hair routine has taken years of learning to develop, and technique is one of the biggest. Super gentle finger combing and shaking from the roots was a game changer for me. This video was very generous, and also so painful to watch... especially the dry brushing. eeeeee...
It was twice as hard for me to watch. I experimented heavily with water last summer to the point where I kept my hair soaking wet for 6 days straight. Resulting in ''greasy'', tangled, & frizzy hair with less volume. And the problem got worse after I straightened it the whole month. Now I spray it with a water bottle every hour to tame the poufy mess
I spent 40 years of my life brushing it out and I'm finally learning that in order to embrace my natural 2c hair waves. I was using Garnier curl shampoo and it began killing my hair in about 2 months in. I'm currently 4 months into my CGM journey. My hair is pretty long and I'm working in growing it longer. My whole life I never knew how to brush it either. I was brushing it from the top too, which is why it was more of a nightmare of tangles. Was always told my hair was misbehaving and would get berated for it, always being told to cut it off. Used a boar bristle brush growing up. So, I have beachy, mermaid waves and I am trying to rehabilitate it. It's crazy how the older generation placed us wavy curlies into a BOX. Thanks for exposing the ignorance LOL
OMYGOD I have the exact same hair type as curly penny but just frizzier and more damaged because I literally do exactly what she did in this video every day like I don’t even know it was that bad oh my God like thank you so much for making this video I mean I do exactly what you just did in that video like literally down to the freaking products I use .
2:00 *_This is how my hair looks in my school ID because it's from 6th grade and I didn't know how to take care of my hair and they won't update it even though I'm in highschool._*
Penny please do 1 product curley hair tutorial using normal shampoo and conditioners that we can find on drug stores easily because girls living in asia dont have deva curl products. I love your videos♡
Free lancer Loreal paris just released a sulfate/silicone free shampoo and conditioner, and I recomend you to get the rosemary scent because it smells soooooo good. you can also find shea moisture in drugstores, and if its too expensive, they release coupons sometimes and Cvs gives you kime buy one second is 50 percent off so thats great. And CVS does sell deva curl products, or at least the one closest to me does. OGX, Tresseme expert(some) and so on. Its not too hard to find, and hopefully this helps 😊
My name is MEH thanks for the suggestions. Shea moisture products are not available in the stores in my country and online ones are 100 times more expensive to buy. I will try to find loreal paris and tresseme that you have mentioned thanks😊
Any deep conditioner (mask) or conditioner for dry damaged hair, should work, because those are the most moisturizing products on the market (not that your hair is damaged in any way). Good luck!
I use regular products and am 4c. I can't afford Shea moisture or the other expensive products. I need sulfates or else my hair is nasty. I just make sure I deep condition weekly when I wash. I also only use three products. I also embrace the frizz.
OMG THE BRUSHING YOUR HAIR DRY 😩thats the worstttt one time in second grade my mom was in germany for a business trip for a whole month and my DAD had to do my hair and since my dad has bone straight hair he doesnt know how to take care of my curly hair. So he made me just brush my hair dry and i showed up to my second grade class with my hair a mess. But now i can take care of my own har so i dont have to deal with that
Oh my goodness! Your poor hair. I will admit to dry combing twice a week before my showers, but I'm a low porosity, oily wavy. I always take it slowly, too.
I wash with sulfates because I have no choice (bad scalp, long story, I'm 45 and tried it all, sulfates work the best, just FYI). I condition twice after washing and it's fine for me. Thank goodness. I go a week without washing so I think it's OK. I also do the LOC/LCO method after washing to keep as much moisture in my hair for the week to come as possible. It works for me. If someone else has a finicky scalp and the only thing that works is sulfates, I sympathize. I tried it all, sulfate free, CO-washing, WO, SO, and it just didn't work out for me. Too bad!
I have hair sort of like yours was back when it was shorter and I'm way too scared to wear it out because it's so thick and frizzy especially towards the back of my head. I'm not confident enough to wear it out so I put it in a tight bun every day >.
I used to do that for way to long, so I feel your pain! but what happened? I started getting a whole crap ton of breakage where I fastened it, not only from the tightness but also from placing in in the same area. 😡 Wearing it down or at least in varying styles was one of the hardest things I've done ( along with going heatless) but, months later, has been totally worth it . good luck hun 😘
I was completely the same way. I always thought my hair was huge and didn’t want to wear it down. But after wearing buns everyday it completely f’d up my hair..and my scalp. So I’ve cut it and I’m so happy to have healthy hair!
I commit to using sulfates and silicones and so far my hair has been LOVING IT. Since sulfates wash out silicones, the silicones aren't in your hair anymore so you just have to moisturize it well and condition it and your hair will love it. Also, i hate wide tooth combs, they hurt me SO BAD because the little teeth dont move (on brushes the "teeth" are way more flexible), so i use a brush on my hair, also i never finger detangle my hair, it takes ages to detangle it, and when i tried to go with a brush afterwards there were still SO MUCH tangles, so ain't nobody got time for that. So yeah, guess i'm going to curly hair hell.
my hair is super weird (half of it is super curly and the other half is straight) i usually have the same hair routine than my mom but her hair is straight and she doesn't accept the fact that mine isn't. Thank you so much for this video, i literaly do everything wrong😂
only 3 mins in and i already learned so much! girl i love you! my whole life, i’ve never been taught how to take care of my curly hair so i’ve been brushing it dry, and shampooing & conditioning with the exact ones u used in the video! i just started using leave in conditioner not even a year ago! time to buy new products and get a whole new hair routine. thanks so much 💞💞💞💞
My mom has straight hair and my dad has curly hair. My hair used to be straight when I was really young but it turned more curly as I got older. I kept treating it like straight hair and thought it was just frizzy but I know how to care for my curls now

heather wheeler My hair still looks like that.
Same! My mum has straight hair, so she would always make me brush it before school :S It looked awful!
Bucherviews white mom, birracial dad, my mom never understood my hair and just put gel on it hahahaha at least now (20yrs) i know what to do
Same😂 although my hair is not that curly (unfortunately, it's some weird thing inbetween)
Estefani when i was in middle school i was in a predominantly white neighborhood (im hispanic) and thus would always brush my hair out since i saw other girls doing it, making my hair a huge poofy mess lol

lmao, i started conditioning on my bed to stop wasting water and it was actually easier than doing it in the shower
sbeve how do u wash it out?
@@haileyadkins8412 either fill the sink up and rinse it out from there or just turn on the shower again and stick my head in real quick ^^
It's actually her bed lol
@@vonKasa why can’t you just turn off the water while you’re conditioning your hair? I understand it may be cold but like if you get used to it, I’m sure you can handle it.

thank you soo much
This girl in my school always tells me to straighten my hair but i dont listen to her bc i LOVE my curly hair and im HAPPY and PROUD to have the most beautiful texture of hair in the hair industry like literally people with curly hair are blessed but the thing i find weird is that she has cinky hair so its curly to like whatt🤨🤨
Kenpachi Zaraki bc she cares about looks so much and thinks everyone wants boy attention like her🙄 Like I come to school to get a good future not to give a fashion show to these little boys💀
YES GIRL LOVE YOUR CURLY HAIR 💅🏽
Everyone always tells me to straighten my hair but I love my curls so it's not happening 🤣
b-but that's my hair when I use absolutely no silicones or sulfates and uses gel and cream *cries in frizz*
-Drink more water
-Don’t use gels (just don’t moisturize, only keep your frizz frizzy and locks your hair into a hard state)
-only use conditioner as a shampoo (unless it’s really hydrating)
-after a shower wrap ur hair in a cotton T-shirt
-put some oil on your scalp before bed once a week
-don’t straighten, blow dry, bleach, perm etc your hair for a while (I’d recommend a full year)
-eat healthier
-only detangle when your hair is drenched in water
-deep condition once every 1-2 weeks
-get outside more (air has to circulation around and get into your body and scalp/hair follicles)
Same. I've literally tried everything but my hair is still frizzy af.😭
my hair used to be super dry and frizzy until i cut it and stopped washing it so much, and started washing it in cooler water. play around with different things and see what makes your hair happy!
Same thing here.
My hair is frizzy curly wavy and straight all in one. Like the frick
Yes, me too.

- “omg I want curly hair it’s soo pretty!”
No you don’t it’s painful
- “why don’t you brush your hair everyday?”
Do you wanna see what happens when I brush my hair dry?
- “why don’t you leave your hair down and natural?”
The minute I step outside it grows twice the size with extra frizz and everything
-“you’re so lucky.. straight hair is so boring..”
There’s a thing called curling your hair which takes a solid 10 minutes. Straightening takes me over an hour
- “my hair is curly too!”

I really love the fact that you’re also mentioning the curly boys! ✨
brush hair dry? check
shampoo? sulfate
towel turban? table cloth
me: urgh why my hair so frizzy ?
Also me: blow dry it
Hotel? Trivago
At least use heat protectant
I don’t have curly hair like Penny but oh my goodness, those towel turbans are a joke. For the longest time, I’ve seen people on tv rock a towel turban and thought it was normal. I couldn’t understand why my hair was looking frizzy afterwards. Finally I read a magazine article saying to pat your hair dry.
Dudeeee when i leave my hair natural and i say
"ugh why is it so tangled on this part"
and the other person says
"why dont you brush it then"
"i cant brush it cuz its gonna get super frizzy"
"Oh come on im sure itll be okay"
LIKE OMG HOW DO I EVEN REACT IDK

Thank you!
join the Curly Girls International facebook group and you will leeaaarrrnnnn!
Good job for trying to learn but you will never fully understand unless you have have curly hair

This is hair abuse :(
This video was actually so helpful!!!!
This is me rn cause I'm the only one in my family with long curly hair and don't got money for these things
try home made deep conditoners!! or buy natural tubs or shea butter, coconut oil, stuff that has no sulphates, parabens, dyes, ect! i hope you find a way :)
Suave coconut conditioner is a cheap conditioner that can be used as a normal conditioner and co wash.
6:50 mins of me cringing😥
love you though ❤️ lol
I'm using this video to convince my straight-haired mom that I want new hair products
There are many options to DIY shampoo and conditioner.
There aren't many options for me either (try finding Cantu and Shea Moisture in Sweden lol) but I find most of my hair products in small african/indian stores. You can maybe do a quick Google search to find any in your city or ask any naturals around (in my experience there is always a small general store with these products in every city)
Wafa AlJohani order online
Maybe you can try some baby shampoo, it has the softest surfractants ( but then don't use silicones at all, because this shampoo is so mild it can't wash cones very well). It works for me because my hair is more wavy-curly than curly and cowash is too heavy for me, give it a try!
I have "half curly" hair like some strands are curled and other ones are just wavy and i hate it :(

Not all queens wear crowns.
Sydney Short her crown is her curly hair ;)
My hair is confusing, first it's wavy then it's curly then it's straight, she wildin💀
I saw on a curly hair blog Suave Naturals has a conditioner that is good too.
You can use natural oils like olive oil for example
You can use suave naturals or essentials coconut conditioner, it’s super cheap
the brand Hask, is affordable and amazing! its like 4 bucks :) so try that! and they smell so good and doesnt have any bad stuff !!💕

A update?
Somehow i got curly hair, which i definitely do not mind. Before having curly hair, i used to have straight hair, so somehow when i got it, i just did my straight hair routine. When you don’t commit any curly hair sins but your hair still looks like your final result and super frizzy
When your hair looks like how it does in this video even when you use normal good curly hair products 😭😩
Lilika half of the results is how the products are applied, not just the products alone (: use proper technique
so true... my curly hair routine has taken years of learning to develop, and technique is one of the biggest.
You look like Alessia Cara
And she sounds like cardi b

Good luck!
Marleen G. M thanks i will try to find some....
I use regular products and am 4c. I can't afford Shea moisture or the other expensive products. I need sulfates or else my hair is nasty. I just make sure I deep condition weekly when I wash. I also only use three products. I also embrace the frizz.
She over there looking like spanish Merida. Edit: thank for all the likes
Moana man.
Too bad!
Oh wow this is literally my whole routine..... well now I know why my hair is a frizzy hurricane 😬
I have hair sort of like yours was back when it was shorter and I'm way too scared to wear it out because it's so thick and frizzy especially towards the back of my head. I'm not confident enough to wear it out so I put it in a tight bun every day >.
xxukuleletude girlxx same but I put mine in a pony tail and when I wear it out I get so hot cause its so thick and long
I used to do that for way to long, so I feel your pain! but what happened? I started getting a whole crap ton of breakage where I fastened it, not only from the tightness but also from placing in in the same area. 😡 Wearing it down or at least in varying styles was one of the hardest things I've done ( along with going heatless) but, months later, has been totally worth it . good luck hun 😘
I was completely the same way. I always thought my hair was huge and didn’t want to wear it down. But after wearing buns everyday it completely f’d up my hair..and my scalp. So I’ve cut it and I’m so happy to have healthy hair!
U look like alessia cara lol
I brush my hair when it's dry if I do it when it's wet I get major breakage
