I just wanna say that Undertale Yellow is an absolutely fantastic fan project that is on par with the original undertale game (And there are moments where I like it MORE than undertale), so please don't take this video as me hating on UTY, rather this video talks about how the hatability of one of the characters as a person strengthens their character and leads to other interesting parts of the story. This video is meant to praise both the game AND that character
9 month old comment, but... Where you went wrong here is with your choice of wording, since Starlo is not hateable as a person. At all. Saying that he is just makes you look like you either lack empathy or failed to understand that what you're looking at is the North Star persona and not Starlo. Or both.
@Wince_Media all soul traits have a way they can do genocide Justice: vengeance Kindness: putting them out of their misery (I saw a cool idea for in an undertale green in genocide fight gets replaced with another spare button) Patience: waiting for the right time to strike and get a one shot Bravery: charge in and kill them I cant remember what the other 2 would do (I stole these)
You said that you will hate starlo becuse he treated his friends badly. That's not what i was thinking at all. I just saw his entire life crumble around him. Instead of wanting him dead, i wanted to help him redeem himself.
I thought he was gonna bring up how Starlo gets pissed at Clover for k_lling Ceroba, calling him 'lower than dirt'. Martlet understands that it was in self-defense. Also wish Starlo had an ACTUAL genocide fight. Missed opportunity imo.
Lots of Undertale characters had this same arc, not just Starlo. A huge point of Undertale's characters was them being flawed and unraveled as you spare them. Undyne has a blind hatred for humans (and literally tells you that you're better off dead), Mettaton tries to kill you multiple times just to have a chance at entertaining humans at the surface (also abandoning his viewers in the underground) and Asgore has killed 6 humans already and tries to do the same to you. They all are redeemed and have likable traits despite their flaws. Starlo isn't a first in this regard.
That makes sense, he is a great character and I love him too! As to why he's hateable, watch the rest of the video (if you haven't already) but I think this hateability is a good aspect that strengthens his character
@Wince_Media As someone that wasn't the biggest fan of Undertale Yellow, and knowing a few others that liked it even less than I did... Starlo is a character that most of us agreed was pretty good. I think for one of 'em, he's the ONLY character they liked. ...A lot of those people didn't like Martlet for her rather bland character and plot armor though, which is... fair. They're just a nice person, with the other character traits being sorta overshadowed by and in some cases in conflict with that one aspect of her character. I think one in particular just straight up wanted her super duper dead. Maybe the Characters would've been more likeable if the game was properly refined (Being Gamedevs that have dabbled a lot with Undertale REALLY did not help with appreciating the game. The damage calculation alone is a mess.) since it would mean we'd be able to properly appreciate whatever was going on with the Story without being frustrated at the Gameplay, Bugs, and Oversights... But I could just be a little too hopeful in thinking that.
@@zaxentothegreedy7816 I believe starlo is a great character, and his "hateablity" as a "person" at his lowest point strengthens it. It makes sense to why Starlo is well liked, his arc is great, and I hope my video was trying to highlight that
Shocked this isn’t about Ceroba. I don’t hate her, but she hogs the spotlight for the second half of the game, and her actions are way more irredeemable compared to Starlo. Yeah Starlo was a jerk to his friends, but Ceroba lured you in to take your soul, hid everything from her friends, and nearly killed them when they tried to talk it out. Starlo also showed hesitation in fighting you to the point where he has tears in his eyes, but Ceroba was fully set on having you dead
That's fair! I feel Starlo's downfall/redemption is meant to build up to ceroba's eventual lowest point and redemption. I feel I was a bit more lenient in her because she was doing this all to save monsterkind as she had no faith in Asgore. That said, I do think ceroba's arc is meant to mirror starlo's on a more severe level
Agreed. And the fact that she was willing to kill an innocent child not only despise but because of their innocence. She had good intentions and was kinda right, but her actions were definitely not
@@Yuni-is-Schrodingers-Fox Oh yeah 100%. A western spin on Undertale not having a high stakes western showdown feels so wrong. Plus, we never got to see The Feisty Five fight as a full team, nor did we ever get to see Starlo go all out, both of which could’ve been shown in a geno fight. Besides, we already got a difficult fight with Ceroba going all out in pacifist, why did we need another?
@@Yuni-is-Schrodingers-Fox Her fight makes no sense in geno anyways. Where did she get this red magic? Why didn’t she use it in pacifist? Why doesn’t she use the shield magic to protect herself? Did the mask give her that power? Where even is the mask in this fight? Call it nitpicking if you want, but this fight is super strange from a writing standpoint
Yeah! I also really like the fabmade Papyrus animation called Disbelief in which you fight Papyrus as the final boss instead of sans. Considering the theory that Papyrus is a lot more powerful than you think, I like to consider it canon lol
ooo hell yeah. i like to think he uses his sillier attacks purely cause he thinks theyre cooler, but once his minds been broken by the death of those he loves it doesnt matter to him anymore and he goes all out. although, i still prefer sans as the final boss and papyrus's death was h e a r t b r e a k i n g. i so need to play yellow some more, but i needed to delete it to make room for baldurs gate 3 ngl o_o
I don't hate this video but... Starlo isn't really that hateable. I agree he is a bit unfair to his posse, but he regrets it right after, and tries to fix everything (also at least that train was fake). And he Was excited to see a human, which as you said, he is a big fan of their culture (specifically Wild West naturally, and Clover's appearance screams wild west) so he Would be a bit too excited to see a human. Humans are a very big deal in the underground. By the way, you say he blames Clover like it came out of nowhere while literally showing evidence that it was Fiesty Four who blamed them first (and both are correct to an extend). And he does apologize later, he just needs a moment to reflect on the situation (Sometimes you need a moment after a big scene like this). Also, killing him would NOT be giving him a taste of his own medicine. There's a difference between murder and being too excited to see a race you're a huge fan of and accidentally ruining your friendship with 5 people including your childhood friend and needing a moment of self-reflection before apologizing. Also, Beta Papyrus isn't in any game, and Jerry- Can you even ENCOUNTER Jerry if you play True Pacifist Route? The true being you would dread sparing is Flowey the Flower. The sadistic, psychotic, soulless flower that committed genocides out of boredom and curiosity. Though, despite this way too long comment and me personally enjoying Wild East, this is your opinion on this character. By the way, you could still change in No Mercy route, there's still Reset option in this game.
Honestly, I agree with you! My thoughts about wanting to kill starlo were when I was first playing the game. While starlo does threaten to kill you, you can kind of tell he would never get himself to do so (hence why he hesitated to shoot. This is also shown in the no mercy route), even when you CAN technically die. This video was supposed to appreciate Starlo's character in a weird, roundabout way, and I was talking about my experiences. Also, you are right about Ed being the first to blame Clover too.
And even then the sadistic, psychotic, soulless flower that committed genocides out of boredom and curiosity is ALSO SIMULTANEOUSLY a little tryhard edgy emoboy, deeply and horribly traumatised scared and panicked middle schooler/teenager at best, who tries to appear all grown up and evil(which comes off as VERY convincing as he is really fucked up in the head, the manic speeches look extremely natural because they are XDD but should NEVER be taken at just face value) while in reality his perception of killing and violence was warped by his trauma AND Godlike abilities to turn back time, making him ironically one of the few characters(in canon i mean) who never in any timeline “hurt people permanently” as he is aware of it all being “a game”(he rationalises it that way) and everything resetting anyway…Undertale REALLY IS BUILT DIFFERENT and I think Yellow does it justice with its original characters like Starlo and others!
Martlet starlo and ceroba getting full attention and spotlight moments: ✨ Meanwhile dalv: 💀 I thought this was going to be about ceroba i never saw anyone hating el bailador the battle was actually pretty fun to play in my end lmao
honestly i feel like Dalv didnt have much going on for him sure hes nice and all but he felt kinda rushed and there were things about him (imo) that havent been well explored
@@Frisk133. I would like him being final boss for genocide maybe? We could see his full power (because he was able to weaken genocidal blue soul when he was much younger (because chujin called him being friend of kanako and if he was adult at the time it would be very strange))
When I first played Undertale Yellow, I tried to get in character. I ended up draining Axis's battery and tried to spare him, but the only available option was "compliment". I sat there, thinking long and hard, but I couldn't think of a single redeeming quality, so I shot him instead.
But legit tho, I finished No Mercy yesterday, before my Neutral run, and after what happened at the end I was like “Damn…He panicked so hard and went full insane mode, I feel bad LMAO I really should let him get his way at least once after that, as a treat XD” It’s funny how order can change the perception ahahahah
I have to wonder, even if Martlet forgave you for your crimes against monsterkind, what future could you have in the underground? The monsters are already willing to murder you in cold blood even if you do not hurt a fly. How would they feel about someone who has been slaughtering them, but now claims to have turned over a new leaf? I can't immagine a future in the underground for abborted vengeance Clover.
Honestly, I feel like that's less Clover "turning over a new leaf" as much as it is having a special connection to MARTLET specifically that makes them unable to, well, JUSTIFY lumping her in with all the other faceless "enemies" they've been tearing through this whole time. She actually directly calls attention to this in her boss fight, after you see the flashback she goes "looking for reasons to hate me? You didn’t need a reason for all the others." It really feels like Martlet and Clover are NOT meant to be enemies on some cosmic level and going through with the only possible outcome where that's the case completely shatters the continuity of Undertale as a franchise. All this to say, I feel like even Martlet knows at this point Clover is too far gone, she even questions her own sanity after throwing the syringe away, the most likely outcome at this point if Flowey ceases to be a factor is the royal guard, possibly Undyne herself would unleash absolute HELL on Clover after maybe a few hours hiding out in Snowdin and that fight would probably go rather similar to the ending with Asgore seeing how Clover is now internally conflicted and unsure of his sense of Justice or maybe the sight of someone like Undyne boasting about the moral highground for killing the human children would enrage him enough to simply revert back to his old ways and finish what he started
I see that as Starlo before he truly went downhill, so I like how it shows the differences between no mercy and neutral/pacifist starlo as you fight him. No mercy starlo was the starlo ceroba and the others once knew
Dude that ending broke me even more. I felt bad when I drew my gun out earlier than what I should have "normally" done, but that is even worse I thought it would end the Genocide run but NOPE. just makes the Genocide run worse than undertale's Genocide (in a good way)
I just wanna say that some of the things said in this video are exaggerated for dramatic effect. I do not have actual beef with an undertale fan character lol
I love his character and the concept of his battle and his battle theme , the boss battle is just so annoying! (Especially without auto rhythm which I didn’t have access to cuz I didn’t have update 1.1)
I'm shocked that people hate ceroba. I've seen some people dislike her because she has a lot of screen time but that's because she's an important character (and every other main character [except Dalv lol] gets their big moments too!)
Tbh I’m more bothered with how chujin straight up said “DO NOT GET OUR DAUGHTER INVOLVED” which Ceroba immediately did, causing all her issues. Not like ppl can’t make mistakes, but it still feels…forced(?) idk.
@@carjis I feel the justification is that Kanako insisted to be involved, and a part of ceroba's like "Well if she inists..." it's flawed, but the flawed reasoning makes sense imo
Kind of wish she had also some analysis video done on her, because there's been a lot of bad readings on her online due to the media literacy surrounding the character being fairly void, not just because of her large screentime. Given how much the Kanako situation has been joked about unironically, for most people it essentially turns her into solely a trauma dumping mother to children character and not much else. Which ignores a lot of the nuance and actual good qualities about her character and why she had her motivations in the first place, and leaves her open to bashing and being considered the worst of the cast much like how Alphys is to UT's.@@Wince_Media Edit: It is done.
Along with the whole “well she exists”, the scene also seems to take place immediately after the scene with Ceroba and Chujin talking and explaining about the tape room under the table. So not only was it a choice of Ceroba listening to her daughter’s insistence, but her judgement was also likely clouded by the fact that she’s been trying to carry on Chujin’s work after his recent fall.
this is a very well made video and I think it brings up a lot of well thought-out points on the nature of the characters. I often see people talk about starlos morals being out of whack and not making sense, and while I can see that, I think its important to understand whats happening to him. Both ceroba and him are not 1 dimensional characters, and they have their own motivations to the things they do. Painting them as flat out "bad" just because of the way they treat you completely ignores the depth and amazing writing the devs put into the characters. Anyway, amazing video!
Yeah that's true! I kind of wish I mentioned how Starlo was doing all this initially to help Ceroba get her mind off of Kanako before it spiraled into what it was when you fight him. If anything, it just makes Starlo's downfall more tragic. He did this so Ceroba can move on from her loss, but now she's losing another person she loves, just in a different way (or the same way of you play the no Mercy run)
Its amazing the way you put it. All these character arcs tie into Undertale Yellow's biggest underlying theme. The yellow soul represents the dichotomy between justice and vengeance.
4:24 WAIT IT'S THE FEISTY FIVE'S HOISE? AND *THAT* CAN HAPPEN? i legit tought that was ceroba's house the entire time (well unknowing of the ketsukane temple back then but i never knew whose shack THIS was)
Bro, EVERYONE LOVED STARLO, he with maybe Ceroba is clearly the sans of this game, that one character that got comics, fan art, and he has an awesome song etc. I actually hated El Bailador because he comes out of nothing, he just falls from the sky, gives you the most frustrating battle in the game (and not even because the battle is hard but because the controls are fricking weird), gives you in my opinion the most boring and bland dialogues out of any other boss or miniboss and then goes away leaving you like "ok... ". At least Jerry is fun but El Bailador for me was just boring, i am right now doing a genocide route, i feel bad for killing every monster i have killed into this point (snowdin), but i am really excited to kill this lucha libre, samba dancer wannabe
LMAOOO you really hated him huh? I mean I dont blame you, I didnt hate him but I do agree that hes just kinda... completely forgettable. I played that section like 5 months ago and I kid you not, I forgot he even existed until the author of the video talked abt him.
Look ma' I'm on TV! But in all seriousness I liked your video and just wanted to add some of my thoughts so I apologize in advance for the mini-essay I'm likely about to type. I really like that your video brings up the question of if some really bad people even deserve mercy, because I do think it's something that Toby Fox really wanted people to think about with Undertale. I see some other people already brought up in their comments that a lot of the characters in Undertale try to kill for morally dubious reasons, but even though they do you're able to talk things out and get to know them better instead of just resorting to violence. Flowey is essentially the final test of how far your willing to go to try and understand someone who is making a lot of terrible and selfish decisions. I think a lot of people view the genocide run as completely evil because all the monsters are "innocent and good", but the truth is that the monsters have already killed six humans just for being human. (obviously that doesn't justify the genocide route, I'm just making a point that it's not completely black and white) I think one of my favorite things about Undertale Yellow is that it shows more of that moral gray area. Clover comes to the underground because the monsters have already killed five humans, and you're literally playing as someone who has to die because King Asgore said so. In Undertale you're mainly focused on your own adventure in the underground, but Undertale Yellow from the very beginning focuses on the people who had to die to help set up Asgore's tragic character lol. Finally I just want to go ahead and say here that Martlet is an awesome character. The fact that even though she's a royal guard, she's willing to go out of her way to travel with and try to protect you, and she even defends Clover for what they do in the flawed pacifist ending is really nice. Martlet is extremely based.
El bailador is a mini boss and just wants you to be happy and dance which is why his music is so gooood please put some respect on his name 😭😭, erase the first portion of this video now!!!
My first run I tried to play the game "justly" like a soul of justice would but I also really wanted to shoot something and was annoyed by the complete lack of evil monsters. I knew killing Starlo wasn't just but he was the only monster that got close to "deserving" it so I shot him. When the Feisty Four attacked I was like "Heck yeah this is a real test!" and I think that's what they were trying to do; especially with how little damage everyone does, including you.
I really thought this video was gonna be about Ceroba, I see way more hate about her than I do Starlo. I think most people see starlo is pretty endearing, just immature and childish.
The reason why I always likes Starlo on my first run is because his story is a tragic one, not a hatable one and I wanted him to get better. But I ended up getting so frustrated at him that I killed him in my first run which was neutral run. I did reset so I could spare him again after though.
I mean tho, him being unable to shoot us in genocide is so dumb He’s willing to literally us to DEATH for breaking up his posse, but unwilling to shoot us in genocide after WE BRUTALLY MURDER TOWNS OF PEOPLE. So stupid…
I see it as a reflection of what happens in the other routes. He just can't get himself to shoot someone, even if his life's on the line. If you kill ceroba in the Pacifist route, he says "why did I hesitate to pull the trigger?"
Honestly one thing I don’t like about most videos on this game is how people glamorize Starlo. It’s almost to the point that they treat him like papyrus. Not quite there but still.
I disagree but careful the Martlet army might swarm you for not absolutely loving the blue bird lmfao (i still don't rlly like her i js don't think she's as good as ppl say)
Eh I disagree with your premise to be honest. I think that it is fine to be willing to give them another chance but they are not owed one. And to compare clover to ceroba or starlow doesn't really line up. At the end of the day, what clover does can be summarised as killing creatures that attack them, starlow and ceroba are trying to exploit a child that (in pacifist) has done literally nothing wrong. Notice how you can't kill Moe at any point in no mercy. You can definitely argue that it's perhaps unreasonable or disproportionate, but clover doesn't owe monsters anything. Undertale is moreso a condemnation of the player rather than frisk, and has you attack targets who literally don't fight you like mobster kid and papyrus. UT yellow the player doesn't seem to exist - you are playing as clover, not controlling them externally. Ironically enough it's starlow's derriding you for offing ceroba that really gets me. Really sours my impression of the character, personally. UT yellow's no mercy route is the first time an UT related property has made the no mercy route actively cathardic for me.
For me, the most annoying thing in the game was the family of foxes (except for the baby), or rather their entire storyline. In the beginning, Asgore fires the father of the family for a very far-fetched reason. Let me remind you that he did not fire Alphys himself, despite the fact that she accidentally mutated a lot of people. But for the fan version of Asgore, setting fire to flower beds is a terrible crime, for which one of the few competent monsters needs to be deprived of his job. As a result, Asgore looks like a fool, and the fox looks like a victim of arbitrariness. Then Ceroba's husband starts working on the supersoldier serum, completely ignoring the fact that ANY monster can become very strong if it absorbs a human soul. In fact, the king himself was going to become the super soldier to protect the monsters, but the fox sabotages this decision by not giving him one of the souls. After all, he could absorb it himself to gain the power to protect his family on his own. But he prefers to kill himself with experiments and leave his wife and daughter defenseless. Good job, idiot. And, of course, he thinks the best solution is not to give the results of his experiments to other scientists, but to force his wife to secretly continue his work. A housewife with no experience in science. Who immediately starts making mistakes and eventually kills her own daughter. These characters have shot themselves in the foot so many times that it becomes very difficult to sympathize with them in the end, although the authors do their best to cause pity for them. I don't understand why every monster scientist should be like Alphys at her worst. Moreover, Alphys at least did something stupid, following the orders of the king, and these two themselves decided to turn their lives into hell.
Desecrating the grave of your son is a far fetched reason? Idk. He gave him like 3-4 chances to fix the machine and not blow up. Creating an uncontrollable machine that destroys things accidentally is an accident waiting to happen. OH WAIT. It DID happen. The programming of Axis was responsible for the murder of a human child without the intent to actually kill. The sheer fact Axis had no control, and Chujin admits to it being unintentional, makes it DANGEROUS. it could be used to murder anyone, not just humans. Something Asgore would easily find dangerous. So idk, seems valid. And Chujin was incompetent, so it makes sense Asgore would fire him. He couldn’t get the robot to stay on without immediately breaking, blowing up, or setting something on fire. Axis only began to work properly when he had more time to work on it. But the fact they couldn’t get it to not break down the 4 times they showed it to him is more patient than most ppl would be. They never said they didn’t ask for more time to perfect it either, they just claimed it was ready to be shown I guess. Asgore literally didn’t know what Alphys did. She HID it. Asgore was frequently trying to contact her and Alphys never responded. So it’s valid for him to keep her in the position she is in, for that reason. He likely didn’t want to fire her for not responding since he trusted her. Another part of why Alphys felt so guilty. Tho I agree, dude should’ve checked up on her, but that’s a problem with Toby F’s writing, not UTY. Point is, the fox wasn’t fired for no reason. And considering your critique of Chujin’s plan, wouldn’t he actually be incompetent and Asgore correct? You also fail to remember that he wanted to create an army, and one monster with a human soul isn’t an army. I think his soul was aging and dying before he got ahold of the human soul. So maybe he couldn’t absorb it then. So he tried to experiment on himself using the soul, to revitalize his soul to obtain the determination to keep going. Like the Alphys experiments. I think it’s why Flowey points out that Asgore no longer can die. Cuz Chujin tried to do an Asgore/Alphys thing, but since he was already dying it wouldn’t work. That said, you’re right that he should have done the Chara/Toriel plan. But this Fox wanted to create an army. Like the army of Axis. Hence the need to make something to empower everyone, cuz he doesn’t want to go into battle alone. Asgore sat on his souls cuz he didn’t want to actually fight. Chujin was violent. Alphys wasn’t. Alphys was well meaning. And what do you mean, every scientist?? There’s only been 2 we’ve learned about. The rest from the info from the Sreamworks were good ppl, you even MEET one! And we know nothing concrete about Gaster. So not every scientist is Alphys at their worst. Chujin was worse than Alphys. The whole point is desperation. The game is about asking what justice is, and whether what ppl due out of desperation is forgivable or justified.
To correct your statement: the accident with Chujin testing the AXIS model specifically nearly burned the flowers where Asriel's dust had been spread. Asgore's reaction to the last reminder of his dead progeny nearly going up in smoke is understandable. That, and he's historically not so good at keeping his cool when his family is directly slighted, else he'd have not declared all fallen humans be killed on sight. Wheras a monster must absorb seven human souls to gain the powers of a god, Chujin's serum [hypothetically] would make a monster just as strong with only one soul necessary to extract DT from. In addition, it would also grant non-boss monsters the same conditional immortality of boss monsters [only aging while they have a living child]. Chujin entrusting other royal scientists to finish his work over Ceroba likely would not have worked out, given that, again, he'd been fired from his position. Best case scenario, they'd call the idea crazy and turn him down to avoid repurcussion from the royal guard, worst case, they'd report him to Asgore on the spot. Even then, his "You Tried in engineering award" and his antisocial programming of Axis and the vending machine probably indicate that he wasn't exactly a social butterfly at the steamworks.
In addition, Chujin did try to fuse with the blue soul in a more conventional way, but it rejected any attempts [implied to be a concious action on the part of the soul], driving him to try and create his serum as an alternative means to absorb its power..
Ok the ending was actually quite sad and funny, maybe you can keep good on your word and try not killing anything in the Steamworks? Or maybe you've gone so deep into murder that it dosent matter anymore. I dont know, its up to you in the end.
Oh don't worry! I killed the remaining monsters and am now on the no Mercy final boss! :D Ok but in all seriousness (even though I was being serious i am at the no mercy final boss lol) you can actually abort a no mercy run even after killing ceroba, as she can be a fallen enemy in the neutral run final boss
@@Wince_Media oh well good luck dude, that boss took me like 4-5 hours to beat, I know that because I recorded it, but thats beside the point, the point is, through trials and tribulations, just be determined, and with that, justice or in Clovers case vengeance, will be served.
my exact words in the opening to this video 2:36 "WHAT. EL BAILADOR???" 2:45 "okay good" 3:29 "... WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT??? YOU HATE STARLO? WHAATTTTT?
Starlo took me like 4-5 hours to beat on pacifist, literally took a nap inbetween fighting him, but i was lowkey just enjoying his fight because he was my favourite😭 On the other hand i wanted to punt Axis like a football after dying to him 3 times
Why do I seem to like the hateable characters? Starlo is my second favorite character in UTY. My most favorite character is a lying, manipulative, deluded and neglectful mom
Well I mean people hate his boss fight for being tricky, and that causes people to hate him due to association. Funnily enough, he's incredibly kind and positive
If the video footage isn't labeled (and has a shitty framerate) then yeah, it's mine! THAT SAID, I did not record my first playthrough. All playthroughs I did for this video are either pacifist or no mercy, and the reason I was level 1 was because I was recording a pacifist run (until I killed starlo, that is.) THAT SAID, I was pretty lucky when it came to my neutral run because the only bosses I ended up having to kill were Decibat and Guardener, and the coin tended to lean to heads either way. I used the Google coin flip to flip my coin for each fight.
Yeah, that's my recorded gameplay. My computer tends to be laggy, but I wanted to try something new for a change. I'll make sure to avoid lag or use other people's gameplay (with credit and permission) from now on
I absolutely loved Starlo in this game. He's just so funny that this game's humor wouldn't exist without him. He IS the humor. He's just a walking meme making machine, and he's also a likeable goofy dude.
As someone who played neutral first, I loved ceroba's inclusion since the Steamworks were so lonely before:( it was nice to have a friend! That said, you're free to like or dislike any character!
@@Wince_Media oh ceroba is 100% better in neutral route in pacifist she over stays her welcome in my opinion I guess it does help to have a good first impression
@@ArguablyNormal i guess she'd seem out of place when first playing pacifist since you JUST met her, but when playing neutral and then pacifist, it feels more like exploring a new side to a pre established character
I understand not liking him but being completely honest I fell in love with Starlo the fist moment I ever saw him and I never saw him as being somewhat Hateable-
top 3 worst characters of Undertale Yellow: 3: Martlet 2: that one Froggit at the beginning 1: Cerobra (she is literally so dumb and has near no consistency of action throughout the game, she could not be in the game at all and it would be better honestly)
Look i don't know the full story of uty (and that this video isn't about her) but i feel that people don't give cerobra much slack she made mistakes and all she wants is her daughter back. She may have gone against her husbands wishes but from what I saw in her final boss backstory is that she really thought she neutralized the serum. And she feels that she let her husband met his end by letting him do his fatal mistake. True she was irresponsible but she wanted what's best for everyone especially her family. And what she did was wrong to save her daughter. But she just wanted to set things right (and during the end of phase one of her fight you can see she shed a tear and that she doesn't want to kill clover) and when shes defeated She comes to her senses and feels that it's only justified if she joins her husband and daughter for what she had done and she asks clover to finish this fight but if you spare her she admits feels that she dug her self in a hole that she fell into and she can't fix anything now. But after starlos and martlets ted talk she accepts what has happened and chooses to forward. True some people thinks that she learned nothing in the end because she let clover sacrifice himself. But she knows that clover wants justice for everyone trapped in the underground and she knows what would happen to him when he loses his soul but both she knows that he wants freedom for them all and clover knows what would be his fate once he sacrifices himself. And in clovers final moments she asks if she wants her to stay (and i really wish there was and option for everyone to stay) and he said he'll be ok and she says her goodbye. Look I she why she is controversial but she made mistakes. And the undertale yellow team wanted the story to be just as emotional as the real undertale and the characters to be just as good too (and even the real undertale characters aren't perfect like Torial because if she knows that frisk could get killed once they leave the ruines why does she give in gameplay wise i know why but lore wise why. And if sans was concerned about his bro why dose he not do anything until the end). And If the writing was a little better she would be less controversial. And it might be true that the spotlight was on her for the rest of the game once she appears. But I feel that the team wanted the player to know who she is and what she can do and that she's important. You can have your opinion but I feel that she isn't a bad character she's just flawed.
I always saw Starlo's actions as him losing sight of what he was even doing as the sheriff of the town. In the end, the entire town was revealed to be a front by Star just to entertain the residents while they were stuck there. When Clover, a human, showed up in the town, he saw it as a way to spice things up. It's why he dropped everything the moment he saw Clover and had everyone organize multiple activities surrounding their "initiation." Making them his second-in-command would give him an excuse to do more things like it, or maybe he raced to name them "deputy" to incentivise them to stay. Whatever the reason, he was too focused on livening up the town that he didn't notice all the people he was pushing away by doing so, and his pride got in the way of his ability to repair the damage.
I'd say Starlo is an amazing character to me. People have their own opinions on what character they think is unlikable. In all honesty, I like Starlo and Martlet the most.
Haha! That one recording of me losing to El bailador was like the only 1 or 2th time I lost to him, he's not that hard except for the final round because it catches you by surprise
Fun Fact: If you kill everyone in the Genocide Route, Martlet is your final opponent. She *really* wanted you to change your mind and think things over. Now it's too late.
All of the major characters of that chapter are awful because their motives are way too pathetic for wanting to murder a kid they were friends with seconds ago. Except Ceroba but I'll get to the problem with her. Ed's motive: Angry at Starlo & jealous of Clover. Moray's motive: Angry at Starlo & jealous of Clover. Ace's motive: Angry at Starlo & jealous of Clover. Mooch's motive: Thinks killing a child sounds fun. Also, she's just consistently a bad person. Starlo: Angry at his abuse victims, jealous of Clover, & thinks he'll be loved for betraying monsters & betraying the human child & wasting the human soul. Seriously, what? Ceroba: Trying to save her daughter & fulfill her dead husband's wishes. Alright, good motive. Now, why did she immediately inject her daughter with a serum she was already nervous about & that her husband told her not to? Because a toddler thought it was good idea? Nice going, genius. Where'd all the intellect & maturity go from the rest of your characterization up to this point? It's so weird to me that all of the bad characters in this game are introduced at the same time & are more important to the plot than nearly everyone else. *And* have the worst boss fights! It's like you were supposed to lose interest in the story near the end. I like all the robots though so at least it's not like the game didn't recover at all. Even though the dialogue in the Guardener fight is insufferable & doesn't let you skip it nearly fast enough & the Axis fight killed what little interest I had left on my first run. Axis is still my 2nd favorite character though. Martlet's my favorite.
"Hateable"? No. Absolutely not the correct term. The guy's life fell apart in the span of two minutes and he (at the time) lacks the mental stability and emotional intelligence to deal with that, and makes a stupid decision as a result. Call me crazy or just a person with empathy, but I don't believe that mental illness makes someone hateable. Draining? Perhaps, at a push. But never hateable.
UTY has plenty of hateable characters. Unfortunately the story thinks it's actually about them. Starlo is at least briefly entertaining before he reveals the manchild he is, Martlette never becomes anything more than a plot device, and as soon as Ceroba is on screen, the game stops being undertale and starts being Oops! All Ceroba
Here's the thing about Starlo and other characters in Undertale and Undertale Yellow. When you consider the circumstances of the Undertale universe, while what they might do is wrong if not heinous, there is at least some level of reasoning for their actions. At the very least, it's because of the whole conflict between humans and monsters. And even if that doesn't play into their actions, they are still given a chance to change. None of these characters are *hateable* in the way you discussed at the beginning. What you described there was a hate sink. But there is value in a hate sink, at least in my opinion. A hate sink, having no redeeming qualities in any sort of way, is done right if their actions can motivate others (i.e., the protagonist) to put an end to their actions, and result in some sort of change in the characters they are around. They don't even have to be evil to be a hate sink, they just have to be unrelentingly unlikeable and, more importantly, reject any opportunities to change for the better. And there's also the question of, who's to say when someone is beyond redemption? How does one judge if another has crossed the line, and even if they tried to change, it wouldn't make up for everything they've done? According to you, at least in this game, that moral event horizon is never reached. At least, not reached at the point where Martlet offers Clover another chance. Really, a hate sink is not a character that belongs in Undertale or Undertale Yellow. The reason why Jerry gets the pass is because he's not supposed to be taken seriously, a joke character you're not supposed to care about, unlike what was originally planned for Papyrus. That is why Papyrus had to change.
There's spoilers ahead. Tap Read More at your own risk. I advise you don't if you haven't played genocide for Undertale. 12:25 I did an almost full genocide route for Undertale. I backed out after killing Sans, Flowey and Asgore. I didn't get the true genocide ending since I did a reset after meeting Chara. I quit the game and reset.
Or both.
yellow genocide isnt about curiosity, its about the twisted side of justice, taken by clover hands to revenge the 5 humans souls that died
That's true, and i may plan on making a video about the difference between undertale no mercy and uty no mercy
to avenge*
avengeance@@thats-a-DEcap
@Wince_Media all soul traits have a way they can do genocide
Justice: vengeance
Kindness: putting them out of their misery (I saw a cool idea for in an undertale green in genocide fight gets replaced with another spare button)
Patience: waiting for the right time to strike and get a one shot
Bravery: charge in and kill them
I cant remember what the other 2 would do (I stole these)
@@LACKOFPERSON Love- L.O.V.E
You said that you will hate starlo becuse he treated his friends badly. That's not what i was thinking at all. I just saw his entire life crumble around him. Instead of wanting him dead, i wanted to help him redeem himself.
That makes sense!
I thought he was gonna bring up how Starlo gets pissed at Clover for k_lling Ceroba, calling him 'lower than dirt'. Martlet understands that it was in self-defense. Also wish Starlo had an ACTUAL genocide fight. Missed opportunity imo.
@@emilywenig4390Well, that WAS his childhood friend you killed
Lots of Undertale characters had this same arc, not just Starlo. A huge point of Undertale's characters was them being flawed and unraveled as you spare them. Undyne has a blind hatred for humans (and literally tells you that you're better off dead), Mettaton tries to kill you multiple times just to have a chance at entertaining humans at the surface (also abandoning his viewers in the underground) and Asgore has killed 6 humans already and tries to do the same to you. They all are redeemed and have likable traits despite their flaws. Starlo isn't a first in this regard.
Yeah, that's true (hence the disclaimer at the beginning). I just wanted to make this video because I thought it was a cool moment.
Berdly in Deltarune is another example of this, except he can’t die outside of the weird route
Why is Starlo unlikeable, I absolutely loved Starlo on my first playthrough of Undertale Yellow.
That makes sense, he is a great character and I love him too! As to why he's hateable, watch the rest of the video (if you haven't already) but I think this hateability is a good aspect that strengthens his character
Seriously I thought this was going to be about ceroba
It makes sense to why Starlo is well liked, his arc is great, and I hope my video was trying to highlight that
@@zaxentothegreedy7816 reading this is making me give out a comically heavy sigh due to how nitpicky this is
Shocked this isn’t about Ceroba.
She had good intentions and was kinda right, but her actions were definitely not
The Wild East Boss Fight in No Mercy should've been against the Feisty Five, not Ceroba, change my mind.
Call it nitpicking if you want, but this fight is super strange from a writing standpoint
papyrus does the same as mar does, he tries to forgive in the genocide route and its always so heartbreaking
6:27 STARLO IS STARLO FROM MARIO & LUIGI?? NAHHHH CHAT IS THIS A REFERENCE? I THINK IT MIGHT BE A REFERENCE CHAT

I thought this was going to be about ceroba i never saw anyone hating el bailador the battle was actually pretty fun to play in my end lmao
honestly i feel like Dalv didnt have much going on for him sure hes nice and all but he felt kinda rushed and there were things about him (imo) that havent been well explored
@@Datsyoashley yea things like what happened with the blue soul and stuff should have been explored more
I feel like Dalv was the Undertale Yellow team giving anyone who'd dare take on the responsibility of making "Undertale Blue" Something to work with.
I never even heard anyone hate Starlo

Nah you did not just call Starlo unlikable bro is actually waffling
To be fair starlo IS my favorite UTY character. This video is meant to praise him in a weird, roundabout way
i did genocide to get revenge on Flowey for what he did on neutral.
Same XD
This is like making a list of your favorite foods and trying to pick your least favorite
You hit it right on the head, and Starlo is actually one of my favorites!
Was boutta throw hands when I saw the thumbnail, El Bailador is my favorite
Even IF I hated him (I don't lol, and I don't really hate Starlo either) I would not want to take the joy of you liking him away from you
El Bailador is the goat.
(no mercy spoilers)
Not to mention that Starlo can very well kill a harmless child but cannot bring himself to do it in genocide.
I see that as Starlo before he truly went downhill, so I like how it shows the differences between no mercy and neutral/pacifist starlo as you fight him. No mercy starlo was the starlo ceroba and the others once knew
He has that Asgore mentality
I think that's because in pacifist he dropped the act, but in genocide he still continues the delusion of being a sheriff.
(Especially without auto rhythm which I didn’t have access to cuz I didn’t have update 1.1)
el bailador took me longer than all 3 of the final bosses

That's amazing
The way I thought this was gonna be about CEROBA 💀
Which ignores a lot of the nuance and actual good qualities about her character and why she had her motivations in the first place, and leaves her open to bashing and being considered the worst of the cast much like how Alphys is to UT's.@@Wince_Media
Edit: It is done.
It IS true everyone loved starlo, including me!
LMAOOO you really hated him huh? I mean I dont blame you, I didnt hate him but I do agree that hes just kinda... completely forgettable. I played that section like 5 months ago and I kid you not, I forgot he even existed until the author of the video talked abt him.
OH THANK GOD ITS NOT EL BALADOR
Me and my friend actually disliked the rest of the feisty five (except ed) instead of Starlo.
No SAME.
at first i was like wtf when you showed el bailador
Comparing North Star to Starlo? That's low.
El bailador is a mini boss and just wants you to be happy and dance which is why his music is so gooood please put some respect on his name 😭😭, erase the first portion of this video now!!!
Yeah that's true, and that's why I called him the ANTI Jerry
The detail of starlo crying is insane.
El bailador was actually a fun fight
I agree 😎
His theme SLAPS!!
The reason why I always likes Starlo on my first run is because his story is a tragic one, not a hatable one and I wanted him to get better. But I ended up getting so frustrated at him that I killed him in my first run which was neutral run. I did reset so I could spare him again after though.
Yeah, I totally get that!
I mean tho, him being unable to shoot us in genocide is so dumb
He’s willing to literally us to DEATH for breaking up his posse, but unwilling to shoot us in genocide after WE BRUTALLY MURDER TOWNS OF PEOPLE. So stupid…
I see it as a reflection of what happens in the other routes. He just can't get himself to shoot someone, even if his life's on the line. If you kill ceroba in the Pacifist route, he says "why did I hesitate to pull the trigger?"
Dancer boy made me seriously consider geno
and then for me almost aborted it
I came here to see El Bailador why are you talking about Star
16:25 bro swapped teams bc clover took a bb gun pellet to personally. 💀
Honestly one thing I don’t like about most videos on this game is how people glamorize Starlo. It’s almost to the point that they treat him like papyrus. Not quite there but still.
I thought Martlet was the most bland, annoying and hateable
I disagree but careful the Martlet army might swarm you for not absolutely loving the blue bird lmfao
(i still don't rlly like her i js don't think she's as good as ppl say)
I thought Ceroba is the most hated character. (( I really hate her ong 😭😭 ))
Same
Eh I disagree with your premise to be honest.
To correct your statement:
the accident with Chujin testing the AXIS model specifically nearly burned the flowers where Asriel's dust had been spread.
Ok but in all seriousness (even though I was being serious i am at the no mercy final boss lol) you can actually abort a no mercy run even after killing ceroba, as she can be a fallen enemy in the neutral run final boss
@@Wince_Media oh well good luck dude, that boss took me like 4-5 hours to beat, I know that because I recorded it, but thats beside the point, the point is, through trials and tribulations, just be determined, and with that, justice or in Clovers case vengeance, will be served.
Wince media!? Covering Undertale!? What!!!???

2:45 "okay good"

Starlo took me like 4-5 hours to beat on pacifist, literally took a nap inbetween fighting him, but i was lowkey just enjoying his fight because he was my favourite😭 On the other hand i wanted to punt Axis like a football after dying to him 3 times
Why do I seem to like the hateable characters? Starlo is my second favorite character in UTY. My most favorite character is a lying, manipulative, deluded and neglectful mom
wait the mexican guy is hated?
Well I mean people hate his boss fight for being tricky, and that causes people to hate him due to association. Funnily enough, he's incredibly kind and positive
Personally I hate el bailador the most In the entire game despite everything and yes I'd compare him to jerry ngl
Wow comparing Jerry to the anti Jerry :0 lol
He did nothing wrong tho :(
If I were a Clover i would willingly sacrifice my pacifist and get tortured by flowey just to shut martlets beak.
I gunned him down on my first nutural route. HES a GOOD character but THOU SHALL NOT IMPRISON MARTLET!
I also gunned him down in my first pacifist route, but i accidentaly killed him and i instantantly closed and re opened the game.
Starlo/North Star is my favourite
Wait... is this your playthrough footage...? If you were flipping heads or tails how were you still at level 1- DO MONSTERS JUST HAVE INSANE RNG?!?!
I used the Google coin flip to flip my coin for each fight.
im assuming this is going to be about that one dancing guy
The dumbest character is ceroba tbh.
By the way one question what's up with the lag in the video
Yeah, that's my recorded gameplay. My computer tends to be laggy, but I wanted to try something new for a change. I'll make sure to avoid lag or use other people's gameplay (with credit and permission) from now on
@@Wince_Media no problem my dude and great video i like it

As someone who played neutral first, I loved ceroba's inclusion since the Steamworks were so lonely before:( it was nice to have a friend! That said, you're free to like or dislike any character!
@@Wince_Media oh ceroba is 100% better in neutral route

I guess it does help to have a good first impression
@@ArguablyNormal i guess she'd seem out of place when first playing pacifist since you JUST met her, but when playing neutral and then pacifist, it feels more like exploring a new side to a pre established character
I understand not liking him but being completely honest I fell in love with Starlo the fist moment I ever saw him and I never saw him as being somewhat Hateable-
Makes sense. Even though I found him a bit unlikable during the neutral run, he's still an awesome character!
he is VERY likeable!! he got me away from that bird!!!
Regarding the end of your video, I have some good news for you. In the end, everyone does die.
HORAY!!!! 🎉 🎉 🎉 :D
I haven't watched it yet but I know it's gonna be Dal... *sees description* ... Oh, yeah.
top 3 worst characters of Undertale Yellow:
3: Martlet
2: that one Froggit at the beginning
1: Cerobra (she is literally so dumb and has near no consistency of action throughout the game, she could not be in the game at all and it would be better honestly)
I do not understand how one can die so much to El Bailador yall are so bad
Haha! That one recording of me losing to El bailador was like the only 1 or 2th time I lost to him, he's not that hard except for the final round because it catches you by surprise

@@sanrusdyne If you do a Genocide Route, you're guaranteed to break a few. So like, don't kill everyone you meet.
NEVER ARREST THE MALTLET!
I would love this video if it was a review about undertale yellow but its not for some reason so i hate it :v
I thought this was gonna be about Bambino
Who's bambino!? :0
Ah, yes, *B A M B I N O* .
My favorite character in the game.
I think you mean Blembino, who is actually the best character in any game ever obviously
All Ceroba

and what exactly is so hateable about him?
jerry sucks end of discussion
Why would people hate Starlo?, i like him, also i like El Bailador
You took the words right out of my mouth!
