  • There have been several options over the years for installing an illuminated screen in the Game Boy Color. But the Retro Pixel version 2 kit from Funnyplaying is no doubt the best I've seen so far.

      I don't see the point in the 2.0 screen over the 1.0
      The hardware and its capabilities haven't really changed.
      The price is a wee bit higher.
      And the customization is not there because that laminated screen will never come off without damaging the IPS display, and the effort to modify your own shell more or less defeats the purpose of an easier installation.
      I don't get this version of the kit. It makes no sense to me.

    • @ryankao2248
      @ryankao2248 2 года назад

      @@briananthony4186 The laminated screen looks better in my opinion vs the previous GBC IPS displays. In addition, there's the added factor of having an illuminated Gameboy Color logo. I replaced a scuffed Gameboy Color shell with this kit and I'm happy with the result!

    Definitely gonna back Infinity just because it's such a cool project idea, thanks for letting me know about it! Also can someone explain how the top touch sensor works? (Though I am also not much of an electronics person so it could be bog standard for all I know).

    • @t3rminus
      @t3rminus 3 года назад

      It is a capacitive sensor. All capacitive sensors can work through thin layers of non-conductive materials, like plastic or glass (think about how your phone’s touchscreen continues to work even if you put a thick tempered glass screen protector on it). In fact, capacitive sensors can work without physical contact at all! If you’ve got a steady hand, you can scroll a touch-screen by hovering your finger a very small distance off the surface.

    Good looking upgrade. But for me the screen and speaker are welcome. Yet,for whatever reason I feel changes to the case as well ??? Is starting to wonder into a territory the UK residents will as "Triggers Broom" (Well older UK residents). Its the age old question that happens to sail ships. At what point is it still the same thing after you changed the screen, speakers, case and nearly the buttons 🤔 I know the pcb is the " game boy" . But... it almost comes over your holding a clone console and somehow it's losing almost more than its gained? I've asked the same question with some sega dreamcast "upgrades" where everything is gone except just the raw boad and the ports. The case, disc drive, power supply and bb adapter all gone for a call looking black tin? But is that still the essence of a dreamcast or game boy? Or is it some new born clone, hybrid remix edition? Maybe it's where I'm old? I mean I can remember the GbC, the original GB and... only fools and horses it seems. Good video, great looking screen. Thumbs up without a doubt and looking to seeing what happens next 👍
