i agree lol mandarin is a v hard language to learn. i've been learning since the age of 5 and i'm still not fleunt lol (i'm cantonese which adds to the fact that words are written the same but pronounced different and my brain can't comprehend that)

Tones are the easiest for me! Since my native language is also a tonal language, to me it's the hardest in Chinese is remembering the words, and how they look like! I can only read Chinese (perfectly) if they're romanized, but I can't remember how to write of read any word besides hello 😓
So I gave up on Chinese to learn Korean, it's much easier haha
I'll have to learn Chinese again in the near future though!

Chenle really seems like he would be a good teacher. I know there is a time restraint for the videos they make so he can't push too far but the teachers who focus on the pronounciation until the student gets it right is actually a quite rare gem. I know because i study Chinese at university with 4 Chinese teachers. Some wont even try to correct a broken sentence when their job is to teach contemporary speaking...

I remember the first months learning Chinese. You are corrected, but you cannot grasp what exactly is your mistake :D our teachers tried their best to help, and it's +-okay with the initials, but the tones need waaay more practice for the ear.
as an individual who studies chinese as a second language (a second language is mandatory when you study in singapore) chinese is very fucking hard and i understand their struggles even as a chinese because mother tongue classes made me cry
