Mr. Belafonte is truly the greatest humanitarian alive today. He was so far beyond his time and his career sacrifices were so many in order to bring humainity to the world.

+Dave La Violette He's Jamaican American. And away back in the 20s, the Jamaican American put an indelible stamp on the human rights struggles going on across the country, where humongous race riots were the order of the day. In fact, I've noticed one of many things about the Caribbeans. And that is, they walk much taller as a COLLECTIVE than their African American counterparts. For example, I have yet to come in contact with a Caribbean Uncle Tom. It's just not a feature of Caribbean upbringing.

Mr. Belafonte was born in New York and spent his childhood in Jamaica. I would walk
through hell wit h Mr. Belafonte.

Dave La Violette His mother was of Jamaican descent, father, Martinique. So maybe I should've said Mr. Belafonte is a Caribbean. The Caribbean character as relates to many things, especially humanitarian concerns, is collectively much stronger than the African American, a mon avis. That humanitarianism you refer to is part of his DNA. I digress to say I was deeply hurt to find, years after the fact, that he had divorced the wonderful Julie Robinson who, as a Caucasian and a dancer with Katherine Dunham, got an intimate and total immersion in a life different from hers.

It's a superb film. There were some great ideas re: the bank robbery, such as using a getaway car with a zooped up motor. One mistake in the plan, however, was staking out the bank from a rented hotel room. Those investigating the crime, had it succeeded, would have gotten descriptions of the robbers from the hotel's employees.

Another mistake was not having Hattie McDaniels and Talullah Bankford as a lesbian couple. And it would be have been easy to film,
since they were lovers in real life...
