We are building a smoker out of an old 120 gallon propane tank. This series will show the process of completing this smoker.

Sandblast/sand the entire outside, coat in cooking oil inside and out including the grates, and run it at 350° for 2 hours. Do this for 12 hours the first day. You will learn your firebox management this way and generate an awesome protective coating better than paint.

Thank you for the tip. I plan to do that for the bare metal firebox, collector and stack. Keeping the patina on the tank.
