Great video! You said you made the half-round molding in your shop--could you explain what you did? In the video it doesn't look like regular half-round molding.
Great video! Has been a huge help. What if your trip does not wrap around to the wall drywall. My trim will be on the interior of the window opening. How do you suggest cleaning up the drywall damage from remove the corner bead?
Where I have a sill and an apron already in place with sheetrock on the sides and no side extension jams .. do I cut the sheetrock out or can I leave it and cut..... wait the part of the sill that goes against thewall would be to narrow for trim if I were to leve the old sill ... Answered my own question I think Jaja
Your instructional video will be my ‘go to’ guide to help me though this after our new windows are installed soon. I will have questions though! I’m kind of liking the way you used the shim or pry bar...so, its true that you can add your finishing nail where you want the board to stay, yet the space can be left empty and it will stay put?
Yes, for the most part the board will stay put. I would only do this if you have small spans of unsupported material, and/or in areas that will not see heavy use/force. I don't always recommend doing it a lot because if someone/thing pushes hard enough on it, it might move. But in this case it will be held by the nails through the casing and by the caulking around the window jam. However, the best practice is always to shim and then nail through the shims. Great question!
Quick question... When measuring out from the centerline of the sash to the right and left stud, why deduct 1/8" from each side? Is that just for some wiggle room? I started trimming out my first window today after watching this video about 10 times. I wanted to really burn it into memory before starting, and thank you for the great informative video. I only did the stool today but it came out perfect without deducting that 1/8". I figured I can always subtract later if it gave me trouble but I couldn't add if I took off too much. I don't have a t-bevel so I used 2 sheets of card stock, one flat against the sash and one flush to the sheetrock, then I taped them together in that position for a template of the wall angle, then repeated the procedure for the other side, then transferred that angle to the stool. I checked them both with the speed square after and sure enough neither side was a perfect 90 degrees. So thanks to your video, my stool is flush to the sash and also flush to the jambs and the wall. Tomorrow I'll start the jamb extensions and casings.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy I think they deleted my comment because I left a link to a video I made in it. Anyway I finished the window, it came out pretty good. I made a quick time-lapse video and posted it on my RUclips page and plugged your video and shared a link to your video in the description of mine. I hope that's okay.
I was wondering about how to shim the base sill...it wasn't in the video. Do you have a video pertaining to that? It was left out but I think important.
What would you like to know? Basically, cut whatever size shim material you need, place it in 3-4 different spots (depending on the size of the sill), and nail through the sill and shims.
Super helpful! I have a scenario that will benefit from some additional advice, perhaps. I have three 3'0"x5'0" window in a row, with 6" in between. They were set improperly by the builder so there's a little variance in their height from one to the next, maybe 1/8". I think (hope!) a bigger bottom reveal will help hide the inconsistencies. I'd like the sill to be continuous, and was planning on having it be 5/4-this means a sill spanning 10 total feet of window, not to mention the casing width on either side of the window bank. Any ideas on how to get the measurements on that length of sill really accurate? I'd hate to have to try it more than once. Thanks again for a great tutorial.
I would do exactly like I showed in the video which is either just measuring or making a mock-up to find the right and left sides, and then use a tape to measure in between. You can also just make your sill longer if you want and cut it after the fact with a handsaw. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the great video. This plus the previous video was exactly what I needed for my project. I like how you edited this so that it wasn’t unnecessarily long.
Wow, very nice video! I like the fast pace and detailed instructions for someone like me who is not a carpenter. My concern with all of this is....what happens when the windows need to be replaced??? I recently built a small addition on my house and used hardiboard siding with PVC trim. There is no way the windows are coming out from the outside. I am getting ready to trim out the windows inside and I am wondering what happens when the time comes to replace the windows. I think all the interior trim will need removed, which will be a major pain and expensive to re-do Any thoughts on this?
@@TrainingHandsAcademy ok, thank you. I am going to try to install the casings in a way that they could be removed in the future without destroying all of the trim work.
This is probably a stupid question, but I’m a beginner. If I wanted a 1/4” reveal around the window instead of the 1/2” like you did in the video, how would I fill the 1/4” gap? Would I use a thicker board for the extension jams? GREAT video by the way!
Hello. You would cut your header extension jam (the piece of extension jam material on the top of the window) shorter so the reveal is what you want. Let me know if that makes sense to you. Thanks for the comment.

Gotta do this soon. What a great simple video! Thanks!
Really great video and I loved the results..looks amazing and I would like these details iny new studio
I’ve been dragging my feet on trimming out basement windows for too long. I was just waiting for this video apparently!
Let me know how it goes Adam!
exactly the video I need to trim two interior new construction windows. thank you.
Good video. I see you hadn’t used used drywall finish coat yet. Wouldn’t you want to do that drywall mud before trimming the window?
I removed my drywall corners so in my case, that was finished drywall.
Excellent tutorial, very well explained, love your videos Bro 🇮🇪
Thanks for watching Paul!
@@TrainingHandsAcademy pleasure Bro 😎
Hello, Can you give more details about the 1 1/4 half round moulding used in the header? Size of board and how it was constructed?
It's a piece of 3/4" x 1 1/8" material that I ripped down on the table saw. I then used a round over bit and a router to make the profile.
Really fabulous!!! Excellent video, and very well planned and thought out!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome video! Easy enough, about to knock mine out now
Have fun!!
That's awesome man! The 1/8" is just so you can adjust side to side a bit to get things perfect. Keep me in the loop on how today goes.
@@dannyr403 Sure that's just fine! Thanks for reaching back out and letting me know.
Very helpful video for someone like me who has never done this before. I thank you and so does my wife. One more honey do completed. ✔️
Nice! Thanks for sharing.
I'm in tears. I don't understand. I'll have to watch a few more times. Love your video tho.

@@TrainingHandsAcademy will do when I'm ready.. Thank you so much.
Hello! If you need to replace them and they can't go to the outside, you would have to remove the drywall returns or the wood casing.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy ok, thank you. I am going to try to install the casings in a way that they could be removed in the future without destroying all of the trim work.
It does look good thanks for sharing my brother
Another great video. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you!
Excellent explanation! Thank you.
You are welcome!
4:40 A "jam" is a fruit-based spread. A "jamb" is a vertical post that forms part of a window or door frame.
LOL
This is probably a stupid question, but I’m a beginner. If I wanted a 1/4” reveal around the window instead of the 1/2” like you did in the video, how would I fill the 1/4” gap? Would I use a thicker board for the extension jams? GREAT video by the way!
Hello. You would cut your header extension jam (the piece of extension jam material on the top of the window) shorter so the reveal is what you want. Let me know if that makes sense to you. Thanks for the comment.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy that makes sense. So would there just be empty space between the extension jam and the wall, then?
@@ashleyjones687 Yes, which would get covered by the trim.
@@TrainingHandsAcademy excellent! Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help.
