Maximum The Hormone is a very influential band in Japan. Among others for whom the band served as role models, without MTH there would never have been our favorite band from Japan, Hanabie. Hanabie is a female metal band that was formed in middle school as an MTH cover band. You can still hear MTH's influences in their music today, even though they invented their own subgenre with Harajukucore. Many people suggest We Love Sweets as an introduction, but the more recent song Otaku Lovely Densetsu is also very suitable, especially since the song also features the new drummer.

I absolutely adore MTH. I really admire them and how uniquely weird they are, and they helped me a ton growing up as such a weird gay kid but always staying unapologetically true to myself. And also I love that you described having "whiplash" because I usually describe them as hardcore genre whiplash 😂 If you want to check out another of my favorite weird Japanese bands than I'd love to reccomend Frederic and their song Only Wonder.
