Correction: You can dig artefacts with the pickaxe as much as with the shovel. The shovel is still useful however, if you want to change the grass/dirt on your farm, or to remove crops.
Other tips: - Pond fish can be found in the pond up to the left of the mansion in town. - There's another area you can unlock by breaking the big rock to the right of Ryis' house, where you can find a fountain and forage for cherries. - Fridays and Saturdays are the best time to hand in quests and give gifts. Everyone gets together in one place which makes it easy to load up your bag with requested items and hand them out. - Water Chestnuts are useful in a few recipes and they are an all-year item, so grab them when you see them regrown because they're one of the more useful foraging items. - Check the fish shop on the beach before going fishing for the seasonal fish. You'll often find one or two of the needed fish in there for the museum, making it just a little easier on yourself. - Make sure to sell at least one of every crop, forage item, fruit and fish you get as the day after you'll usually receive a recipe using those items in the mail. - When the townfolk mention an item from the museum, that means it will make a good gift for them. Same with any other items they mention (unless they're talking about someone else - then it's a great gift for that person instead.) - Feed your animals by hand to get special beads that can be used at the chicken statue to the left of Hayden's farm to get free dairy items - including high end food or golden eggs/milk.
That sell one of every item is big brain. I knew the rest of these tips but I've been completely hoarding the crops for cooking. I'll be selling one of each tonight.
@@7thlittleleopard7 move 1 item and then place them in another inventory slot, there is no "fast way to move stacks or force a half stack" which can be tedious and should be a QoL update
Yeah I haven't even used the Shovel yet in the game and I'm in Summer of the first year. The only use it actually has as far as I'm aware, is for digging up grass on your farm so you can have more tilled soil area for crops. No point in carrying the Shovel around for digging up those spots when the Pick works just fine.
@@anastasiasmith2910 Also I say you don't need to carry your axe or water can unless you need to use them, so I just leave them at my house also. As Josh said, inventory is limited.
I kept the Stamina Increase items for like 2 months because I thoughg they were just like...a stamina heal potion...didnt realize theyd raise my Max 😅😅
I tend to hold onto mine for a few days until I hit the mines...though at this point, I'm drowning in food after hoarding produce & cookable foreageables in my first year. Stamina is no longer an issue in my current playthrough.
Dropping items on the ground floor in the mines is a great tip, I didn’t even think of that! Sometimes I would leave really quick and donate items to get them out of my inventory since the museum is right there but dropping them seems less time consuming since they don’t go away
A tip I didn’t see: there are two options when using a tool. Hold for a charged use or hold for a repeated action. Only the charged use has a button assigned in the keyboard controls, and when you start the game you have no charged upgrades so the repeated action is more useful, especially for chopping wood and mining stone. Go into the controls in the settings menu and assign it a key or mouse button. I find it useful to have both on hand depending on the circumstance.
Quick question, which you may not know the answer to, can you rebind the movement keys in the control menu? My “W” key is broken but I’d love to get this game.
@@sarahenson9659 Yes, you can rebind all the movement and actions. Also, you can set secondary buttons, for example "move up" can be "Z" and "Up arrow" at the same time.

I would like to add one thing! I remember a longer while back in Stardew Valley, I was farming lots of wood and pretty much chopped down the whole forest area underneath the farm, after I had no trees left on my farm. Unfortunately (I dont know if thats still a thing or they fixed it) the trees in the forest area would grow back in the same amount of time as the trees on the farm. So it took forever to farm a good amount wood again. In Fields of Mistria, I chopped town all trees on my farm and went on to chop some more all over the map. The trees respawn by the next day! So I went on to mainly chopping down trees outside my farm! :)
Something I discovered later was that you can reveal unidentified artifacts yourself. I thought I had to unlock a feature from the museum or something but you just have to hold the button and it will show what it is
some of the best things i like about crafting is the Green check mark, which basically means what you have items to craft now, works so much better than searching for everything i can craft.
Yes same 😅 I have big problem with these. 1. I always forgot to ring them back in that I never get any produce cuz they always in a bad mood. Tho I kinda interested in color breeding. That i did some googling. Basically the colors are tier based. Random Tier 1 ♂️ + Random Tier 1 ♀️ = Random Tier 2 ♂️/♀️. You can buy Tier 1 animals from Hayden. Blue/Pink/Purple is Tier 3. Silver is Tier 4 and Gold Tier 5. Tier 2 can be diff for each animals. 2. 😵💫😵💫 If you wanna move the coop/barn. Go to Hayden and put all your animals in Day Care > Click on your barn/coop nameplate > click remove > they will refund you your blueprint and resources> start all over again and dont forget to pick up your animals from Hayden Day Care once everything is ready.
Once you breed a certain teir, it will then appear in Hayden's shop. If you breed Tier 3 ♂ but wanted a ♀ instead, you can go to the store, sell off your ♂ and buy a ♀of the same tier to replace it. Useful if you're only getting one gender every time and are running out of space.
You're talking about missing the pond fish in spring. I missed EVERY fish because unlike most farm sim games, no one gives you a fishing rod lol. I thought I had to wait, because the only item the game tells you you SHOULD buy is the shovel, so I wasn't expecting anyone to give me a shovel, but with every other tool throughout the first...week I believe? - you were given them. But no, go buy the fishing rod. No one will give you their hand-me-down rod (At least not that I experienced. You might be able to miss quests like that but every quest I was given for something like that was pretty in-your-face)
I think the fisherwoman tells you that she sells fishing rods in her store - the same way that you're told about shovels being sold. I guess that's your hint that you're not getting free shovels or fishing rods. XD
@@7thlittleleopard7 yeah I got mixed signals because technically you can buy any tool I think given enough time xD I like the mechanic I just completely missed that one

I don't know if it's a glitch or just how the speed bonuses work. But, if you get your smithing up to level 15+ and get the perk that sometimes lets you forge armor with a 4% bonus to move speed, you can "stack" them to extreme effect. I first got a bonus on the iron pants and it worked like expected, but then I made a pair of boots with the bonus and after putting them both on I realized my move speed almost doubled. Absolutely worth re-forging armor pieces to get the most out of your day.
ok but the pond fish tip is so valid, bc i did the exact same thing, had no idea until donated some things in the summer and checked the Wings for the first time to see how i was doing and was like "tf you mean POND FISH?!" 😂
I've played about 30 hours so far and honestly its so polished its like a full release! I've only had one small bug of my chicken gping out of bounds and i fixed it instantly by calling it outside
Thank you. I have not played yet but I love that you put tips in from obvious to not so obvious. As a player sometimes you don't see the obvious ones and it can be frustrated.
Sorry, Im not sure if you said it but in settings under control you can rebind your action button on "Use tool repeated" it is just awesome to stand in one spot and water crops, etc. with just one click.
I didn't realize we could drop items with G! I'd just been dumping extra items into the trash can from my inventory. Although, I have been littering across the map by picking up foragables with a full bag. That way, it'll have time to respawn more, and I can grab them later once my bag is free. I always leave piles of those water chestnuts 😂 You can also access more ponds by the mansion north of town! Those ones get overlooked pretty easily since we don't go up there often. Thanks for this video, Josh! Definitely learned something useful here!
Picking up the forageables just so they respawn quicker is such a good idea! I definitely forgot about the pond around the manor... I never go there. 😭
Thank you so much for mentioning how the save files worked! I only have one farm right now so I didn't realize it at all, and I was starting to get tempted to make a new file---I would had lost everything if I didn't have access to that information... Thank you for the tips! One thing I wish would be improved is a way to tell what you have or have not sold, crafted, or cooked. I realized later the recipes tied with selling items and now I have no idea what recipes I am missing from that. Its a minor issue though, but so far one of the few issues that requires me to look outside the game to learn.
apparently you can only have 1 auto save i think? so if you rely on this and you have multiple farms, you could lose one of them. I think saving in diary is the safest option
There are pond fish to the left of the Manor at the top of the town as well! There are also Rosehips in the bushes to the right side during the winter, which are easy to miss if you skip by villager text or don't speak to them often. I forget who, but a character tipped me off that they were there, so I wasn't scouring the map for them when I got a quest for them.
at 8:25 Be careful jumping over the top left of that island, I got softlocked and had to restart the day because i got stuck behind those two rocks and couldn't get out.
Josh! The jumping mechanic is such a good idea! What a time saver!! Also, I had no idea about the water chestnuts until I was a few days into summer! 😩
Josh and friends! Make sure you’re hand feeding your animals (if you’ve unlocked shiny beads) it’s completely worth it and something that can be missable !
Yeah! I thought it is useful as a perk because I doubted that they would include stuff which is useless :) Have not fully tried what you can get (only once for 10 beads) as I only have one chicken which can give me three beads at the moment. So piling them up takes a bit time.
Thank you for this video! I just started Fields of Mistria this weekend and there are so many great tips here: especially about the coconut milk and holding onto items from the mines!
I am loving this game but it so badly needs fast travel. The map is too big to not have it 😭 I’ve changed my gameplay to only doing certain things and going to certain places on certain days but it’s still such a time hog (and time moves pretty fast) to walk around everywhere.
Thanks for explaining the Save mechanism because I've seen a few videos mentioning this, but I never quite understood it, so this helps. And I feel like banging my head on my desk about the water Chesnuts haha. Btw, I know people mention the pickaxe can be used on those dig spots, but the game does let you know that, but it's an easy to miss thing. It comes from speaking with Eiland (sp?) just randomly right after getting the pickaxe (even before you get the letter to the Museum). So it pays to interact with the residents as much as possible.
you can also use the pickaxe on the bumps or dirt to get artifacts, the only exclusive advantage of buying a shovel is that it lets you increase your farmland
Thank you for all these tips! After watching your "First month of Fields of Mistria", I knew I wanted to play the game too hahah! Can't wait to try it out~
Just in time before I start playing! I hope they don't remove the dropped item hack! The pond was not very obvious too, I would make the same mistake! They should've at least made the pond unique looking (maybe a different color) to suggest that it's a different body of water.
those damn cliffs at the museum. I remember they are the ones I first tried to see if you could jump down cliffs. It didnt work there so I never tried again anywhere else. I am so mad. Thank you lol
You can also use the pickaxe to dig up the bumps in the ground! I think this is mentioned in the dialogue during the main quest where you first obtain the pickaxe.
thank you for this video!!! tbh I was unsure If I wanted to get this game yet because I dont really like buying early access games, but honestly your video kinda finally convinced me to make the purchase :3 I am super excited to dive in
Also once you reached level 30 of fishing you can start hunting for legendary fish which YOU ARE NOTIFIED the same way you are notified if there's any event in town really handy the legendary fish in spring is only available during windy days and is a pond fish, summer is a thunderstorm fish but river if not ocean
I never knew animals ate grass bc i cleared my entire farm of debris before getting into ranching lol now I'm regretting that along with all of the little saplings i axed, i am struggling to get wood. Ik it grows back but it sure takes it's time lol
Idk if you're still struggling with wood but! You can axe all the trees anywhere that's not your farm (town, east/west maps, etc) and they'll respawn fully grown the next day
Loading from a manual save will result in male ranchables to not drop their stuff (horns, feathers) this may or may not be related to a bug that manual loading will result in the day being "reset" and thus get another quest from the quest board handy if you want to "speed through" the quests and see if you can find other recipes from it handy if you really dont like ranching. You can get a special currency if you hand feed your ranchables HOWEVER they also benefit from crops fed example cabbage, pumpkins give the best drop rates for them which you can exchange to the chicken status at the sweetater farm area I suggest you donate in 10s first so you can unlock the recipes and animal cosmetics, donating in 100s results in the best feeds and golden quality of milk and egg but in higher quantity
Thanks Josh- Yes that was helpful. However, is this sped up or do you run this fast??? love the game but frustrated with how S-L-O-W my character runs (crawls) and speed is inconsistent- maybe a glitch
The video is not sped up, this is the regular running speed. Maybe there's some performance issue on your end or a bug? I've seen a few other people mention it.
I looked up how to get sod and peat for a quest and Google told me to dig so i digged up like half of my farm looking for it before i realized that it meant in the dig spots, not your farm. Kinda embarrassing.
I received the request for the mill on the 18th, the day after the spring festival. I'm not sure if there are any specific requirements to trigger it! You'll need 1000 coins, 150 wood, 200 stone and 2 copper ingots to build it.
@JoshGamingGarden It must've gotten fixed, because I watched a review from Laelindra where she lost half a month of progress because she started a new farm and hadn't manually saved her original one in like 20 days.
Don't bother with a shovel until you actually want to move your farming around. 500 gold early game isn't really worth it when you can use the pickaxe for artifact spots 😮
Perhaps as a result of skipping a lot of cutscenes, I missed a lot of things I accidentally discovered on my own later on. This video filled in a few more gaps. Excellent stuff!
Correction: You can dig artefacts with the pickaxe as much as with the shovel. The shovel is still useful however, if you want to change the grass/dirt on your farm, or to remove crops.

I found that out by accidentally feeding them their own products. Repeatedly. Lol, make sure u have ur hands empty before trying to pet them
@@Sandstimes I do wish feeding & petting animals were two separate commands, similar to how gifting vs. talking to villagers uses different keys.
Thank you for this video! I just started Fields of Mistria this weekend and there are so many great tips here: especially about the coconut milk and holding onto items from the mines!
Okay, that save info is so good to know. Thank you so much!!
I am loving this game but it so badly needs fast travel. The map is too big to not have it 😭 I’ve changed my gameplay to only doing certain things and going to certain places on certain days but it’s still such a time hog (and time moves pretty fast) to walk around everywhere.
I think we'll be able to ride a horse (or other mounts?) later, which should make traveling around faster!
It took a few days to realize I could jump in the water.
I thought I was going to drown loool
I've been screaming where the fuck are the water chestnuts for days
this comment is so funny 😭
you can also use the pickaxe on the bumps or dirt to get artifacts, the only exclusive advantage of buying a shovel is that it lets you increase your farmland
Thank you for all these tips! After watching your "First month of Fields of Mistria", I knew I wanted to play the game too hahah! Can't wait to try it out~
These were great tips, and I certainly learned something new. I'm currently in the Winter of Year 1, and you taught me things I didn't know.
I had the same issue with digging! Ran all over the map trying to figure out where to use it before it highlighted one of the circle spots xD
Just in time before I start playing! I hope they don't remove the dropped item hack! The pond was not very obvious too, I would make the same mistake! They should've at least made the pond unique looking (maybe a different color) to suggest that it's a different body of water.
theres another pond to the left of the manor!
It seems easy to farm since you can enter and exit the manor to respawn them!
Thank you for the pond fish tip 🫂
those damn cliffs at the museum. I remember they are the ones I first tried to see if you could jump down cliffs. It didnt work there so I never tried again anywhere else. I am so mad. Thank you lol
Thank you Josh! Those Tips & Tricks will help me in my next Episode!
Thank your for not only the tips but for selling me on this game, it looks so much fun!!!
0:53 the digging works with an ax too I think. Or a pickax.
You can also use the pickaxe to dig up the bumps in the ground! I think this is mentioned in the dialogue during the main quest where you first obtain the pickaxe.
for pond fish there's also the pond to the left of the manor! there's usually more fish there :]
thank you for this video!!! tbh I was unsure If I wanted to get this game yet because I dont really like buying early access games, but honestly your video kinda finally convinced me to make the purchase :3 I am super excited to dive in
Nice! Hope you enjoy it as much as I am!
You can also go to the inn and eat the soup daily! It gives you 20 stamina
8:01
I cant stop playing! U can also use the pickaxe at the digging spots atm.
I wish they pause the time inside buildings in this game
I never knew animals ate grass bc i cleared my entire farm of debris before getting into ranching lol now I'm regretting that along with all of the little saplings i axed, i am struggling to get wood. Ik it grows back but it sure takes it's time lol
Idk if you're still struggling with wood but! You can axe all the trees anywhere that's not your farm (town, east/west maps, etc) and they'll respawn fully grown the next day
A good tip of the mines. I always am sad to leave the mines without the loot 😢
A lot of these were great tips I didn't know
Loading from a manual save will result in male ranchables to not drop their stuff (horns, feathers) this may or may not be related to a bug that manual loading will result in the day being "reset" and thus get another quest from the quest board handy if you want to "speed through" the quests and see if you can find other recipes from it handy if you really dont like ranching.
If you need more wood then just chop down the trees around the map, they respawn the next day
i had no idea you could jump from the cliffs almost 50 hours in too >
YOU CAN JUMP OFF LEDGES?!!!!!
I love the way you say coconuts!!!
you don't need a shovel for archelogy. You can use your pickaxe :)
I found out you can use your pickaxe on the bumps and works the same😂
this looks like a modernized stardew valley. looking forward to more content for it specially mines and combat.
Thanks for this Video ❤
You can also use the pickaxe instead of the shovel to dig the artifacts. So the shovel doesn’t take up an inventory slot
I didn't have to use the shovel.. you can just use the worn out pick axe if you're still new in game for the archeological site.
Can you put a chest at the mine entrance to stash your stuff?
That would be great but no, you can only put things on your farm!
There's also a pond in Elise's mansion!
ty so much, there was a lot I didnt know, I had many "ohhhh" moments ♥ i also didnt know abound pond fish!
you can also use the pickaxe for digging!
Found this out not too long ago but you can also use your pickaxe to dig up artifacts!
This game looks great 😊
Thank You
Thanks to Sarah Sunstone I know you can use your pickaxe on those dig spots too.
I know 😭 I'm so sorry, I had no idea.
I looked up how to get sod and peat for a quest and Google told me to dig so i digged up like half of my farm looking for it before i realized that it meant in the dig spots, not your farm. Kinda embarrassing.
How far in do you have to be to get animals? I have the option to build but it never let me highlight it.
You just need to have the blueprint and the required materials! If you can't place it down, make sure there are no grass/stones/trees in the way!
I need to find a list of gifts to give the townies. I have no idea.
How did you get the third bag upgrade? I only have the first bag upgrade and its not enough 😩 in need more inventory
upgrade the general store!! you get them all there
Omg I’ve been selling my eggs 😅 😮 do you know when we are supposed to unlock the mill.
I received the request for the mill on the 18th, the day after the spring festival. I'm not sure if there are any specific requirements to trigger it! You'll need 1000 coins, 150 wood, 200 stone and 2 copper ingots to build it.
Didn’t find water chestnuts until Fall 8 😂😅
Nice 🎉
I wish they would allow us to put a chest in the mine area
Im gonna wait for a few more patches before i get this. Cant wait to romance the DILF. 😘
I want both Errol and Hayden! 😈
@@MiguiMonkey Errol is not romancable.
@@LoneWolf982 lol I know but just wishful thinking 😆
You don’t need a shovel to dig the spots you can use your pickaxe and don’t buy the shovel/bug net/ fishing pole make them out of copper :3
You technically don't need a shovel to dig the bumps and cracks in the ground! You can use your pickaxe
I cant get upper mine mushroom im gonna go crazy IT JUST DOES NOT SPAWN FOR ME i went for the mines for 10 straight days and no mushroom
SAME HERE it's driving me crazy 😭
Jumping actually decreases your movement speed. So jumping around town will slow you down by a lot.
Not me just learning Balors wagon is a shop Omgs💀
Thanks! Excellent tips.
I thought the moths for the 20th mine floor were easy to find and now I am looking for it because I sold it 😭
Right? I found so many of them before getting to the 20th, and after that it became a real struggle 😭
@@JoshGamingGarden yes exactly. It’s been like 5 game days for me so far.
I'd like to point out that it's not 1 auto save per character; it's one auto save PERIOD.
I don't know if that changed, I tested by creating a second character and I had one autosave with each.
@JoshGamingGarden It must've gotten fixed, because I watched a review from Laelindra where she lost half a month of progress because she started a new farm and hadn't manually saved her original one in like 20 days.
It's good to know they're quick on qol updates.
Don't bother with a shovel until you actually want to move your farming around. 500 gold early game isn't really worth it when you can use the pickaxe for artifact spots 😮
Feed your animals with chestnuts or berries by hand gaining friendship and ranching
you can actually use your pickaxe on the dig spots instead of the shovel! save yourself some tess ❤
Pond fish are also at the mayor's house
Yes, I always forget that area even exists. 😅 I'm at the end of summer and just noticed there are roses there as well...
Perhaps as a result of skipping a lot of cutscenes, I missed a lot of things I accidentally discovered on my own later on. This video filled in a few more gaps. Excellent stuff!
Hey, how can you jump into the water ?
you just go up to the water and jump in
