PlayStation Portal - DON'T BE FOOLED!

- The PlayStation Portal is one of the most interesting portable gaming systems that I have ever used because without a PS5 and without internet, it is a a worthless brick, but when your PS5 is working in ideal conditions it is one of the best portable gaming systems that I have ever used but it's definitely not for everyone and not for every game.
Buy PlayStation Portal: howl.me/ck2KBF...
I love mine and I’m really glad to see bigger tech creators like Greg actually testing it rigorously to make their own conclusions, as opposed to simply forming assumptions based on the spec sheet.
Used it at home and round my father's house, works really well. So many people hating on it just because it doesn't suit their needs
Yes they are hating but I wouldn't say that lol we all know PlayStation players are unhappy with everything they do.
Everybody wants the next vita, unfortunately this is not it that’s why most people are mad,i mean sony clearly said that it’s a remote play, nothing more so i don’t understand all the hate lol.
If there’s anything start with the specs the display is almost equivalent specs as a Nokia razor phone for 200 bucks should have at least got 4k and audio headphones on the release and also higher refresh rate since its sole purpose for functioning is WiFi connection strength
thdy hate on every game and systems on demand lol nothibg is perfect but thecportal does suits me and its really cool they only hate cause they wish it was a vita thing but one thing i hate the most its fucking discontinue part they did that i hate they made it like tgis on the portal so it can last long its almost like having a wireless ps5 in your hands dont got to worry about dust problems
@@Ceemoney60do you have one?
I have this device I’ve been enjoying it can’t wait to see what updates will do over time for this
Yes man.. dont hear hater say
Smart decision man
. .. hater always hater
@@koleksimainan2218 absolutely
Bro how is anyone even buying them? they are sold out here in the US everywhere. You also can't even preorder one from PS direct. I have tried every single store both ins store and online. I can't buy one anywhere unless I am willing to pay $400-500 for one via a re-seller on Ebay or amazon or Mercari, which is bullshit.
@@gfddave awww man that sucks it’s the scalpers taking all of the stock I pre ordered mines before launch day keep looking I’m sure you will find one because a lot of people downplayed the device
I only use it within my home, works perfectly.
Sounds like piece of waste $200 trash because this garbage portal instantly obsolete once you are outside.
@@runninginthe90s75 phone hotspot for on the go...
I’m loving mine right now it has a very niche use case that not everybody is gonna need .
A big major flaw with a PS portal is it's got no web browser most places where you visit you have to agree to terms and conditions to use their network and you can't do this with the PS portal and it's got no Bluetooth my opinion they should have spent more time developing and adding more features so you can use it on the go for me it Falls short when you've already got a device which is in your pocket which is your phone what does exactly the same thing my book save your $200 wait for something else what comes down the line
Might be something Sony will update in the future once they gather enough feedback from people.
In my experience those networks that have terms and conditions lock down what you can do on their wifi....pretty sure the portal wouldn't run very well on those anyway
Exactly phone can do the same with better connectivity and you can get the same portability using telescopic controller, so why you need this cash grab garbage PS portal which is $200?? Only blinded fanboy would defend that trash. So far only your comment in here does makes ane sense while the others shilling PS as usual like they are getting paid by $ony and its getting ridiculous.
Stay butthurt that sony isn't making a ps vita 2 because you guys failed to support the vita in 2011
It's you the fans and non fans fault 😂😂😂
Never cared for portable gaming. Never invested in psp, vita, etc. Once i leave home, i don't care about gaming. But because the ps portal is not a dedicated portable gaming device, but an efficient remote playing device dedicated to the ps5, it's perfect for a gamer like myself.
Same here .. I was like I want to play my game but want to watch football.. I be all over the place . But when this came out its perfect. I do both.. instead of waiting to half time
It’s great. When I first heard how long the battery lasts, I was like I’ll never use it that much. I’m getting about 4 hours, but I got brightness turned all the way up. Games look phenomenal on it. Just try and hard wire your ps5 to your router. 99% of the time it’s running at 1080p at 60fps.
Can just use your phone tho and buy a controller attachment for like £30 literally the same thing
@@KicksDoe I been known about remote play .True . U can play on ur phone .. I did it on my samsung s8 ultra tab.. my phone is to small . My tablet was laggy. I had better success with this so far..
@@KicksDoe yeah I’m not taking my phone out of the case every time I’m going to play games. I tried using remote play on my kids iPad Pro . Didn’t look good at all.
So good, love mine. Buying a case for it right away and putting a glass screen protector on. I usually play fps but I’ll have some solid time playing some campaign games. Can’t wait
lol, I don’t normally make videos on game units! No, you make them on vacuums, lol love this channel! Great video and thanks for sharing.
I love this thing. I play my ps5 way more because of this beautiful device!
What a simp lol
Same here
Same here. I think that’s the reason this this exists and why it’s actually kind of genius.
I'm definitely buying one and it is going to be delivered tomorrow. I'm planing to take it on my Christmas vacation in Portugal. I'm not very sure it will be working fine, but I'm excited about it.
You need more time with it... Sometimes it just works right out the box. ..i took it camping
@@CiNiSTa Do you always have to have the disc of a specific game in your PS5 device in order to play remotely?
@@guillandanthony711If you own the a game digitally no. If not yes, you need a disk. Where did you purchase yours?
@@STAyTHIrstyMyFREind From Playstation Direct. All resellers are out of stock.
I absolutely love it so far. Played it from my friends place, from my deck, couch, bed. Its so much better than playing on my small ass phone and seems to stream better. Also the airplane mode is there because its a LAW lol. Also I am super excited to see what they update this device with. I am guessing they will allow remote play from PS plus streaming service eventually.
Took mine to my sisters house when I came over for dinner and let her play some Spiderman and she loved it. She’s also a very casual gamer but she dosnt own a PS5 and she wanted to play some Spider Man 2 so hello Portal it worked very well.
I’ve picked one up too and I’ve had a very similar experience. Streams well and great for gaming away from home, and definitely much better than my experience of streaming PS5 on my phone too.
I’m getting mine tomorrow! Thanks for such a good information.. 😅 I was bit nervous
As long as you have good internet this thing runs smoothly I have a 25mb internet speed at home and it worked great. Make sure you have a 5ghz wifi.
You’re gonna love it! Got mine the other day and quite enjoying it so far!
loving the skits coming up in these latest vids man
You actually can use any wireless headset when playing on PS Portal by plugging the dongle straight into your PS5 and as long as you're in the vicinity of PS5 range you're good.
I did the same on my h9s
You have to mute the audio on the portal
Sure, what happened when you are out of range like when in plane or bus or train? This cash grab garbage PS portal will be instantly obsolete unlike PS Vita. Stop defending this $200 trash.
This device is great. I’m using it around the house and totally enjoying the Portal. Yes it’s not a Steam Deck or Rog Ally. Get over it! It is what it is! The screen looks great and the speakers are loud. Yes, it needs updates. Hopefully in time Sony will correct the issues. For my needs this is perfect!
Simp
There is no way Sony would ever allow this device to stream from the cloud. They 1st and foremost want you to buy a PS5 and situation where you would not need a PS5 is out of the question
They could let you use their cloud streaming service through the PS5. Although that would probably add an additional layer of latency.
Have a nice Thanksgiving
You too! Happy Thanksgiving
Best intro to a video 😂😂😂😂 i fu#king loved it and outstanding review of the portal sir
Why was the camera man hiding in the bushes o.o
There was a camera man!? THESE ARE MY PRIVATE THOUGHTS
It works without internet at home as long as you have a good router...just unhook your internet to your router and see
U mean unhook the hdmi from the ps5
While wife what's to watch move on big screen I can still play games. Win in my book
Reviews from different RUclipsrs are so mixed. Some stream great, some don’t. It is very odd how inconsistent it is.
Now I have a portal. My internet is pretty good I’d say. 150mb download and 30mb upload. Works absolutely fantastic! No issues.
A friend of mine. 1GB both ways. And his keeps disconnecting, awful streaming and laggy.
Doesn’t make sense does it.
Your friend’s router must be the problem (by that I mean his connection to the router).
Id only play it on my sofa when my daughter is taking over the tv with cartoons
Im on my way to return mine to best buy 🙃
You’ll make more money if you sell it. It’s sold out at Best Buy. People are selling it on eBay for $500. It’s $450 on Amazon.
@JohnCovington5 I'm not a scumbag and wouldn't attempt sell this worthless device for nothing near 400
@@kellyd1910 It’s worthless but no one can buy it unless they pay double the retail price. Okay
why
Good for you bud
You want a chorizo
if you can stream ps plus games then its worth buying
If you are on the fence on this, DO NOT BUY. It does nothing but lag and crash. Luckily I was able to return mine
I love my PlayStation portal. I think it's an awesome system.😊😊😊
I just wish I could try before I buy. The only time I would like to use something like it is when I’m staying at my family’s place an hour away from my home, but if the gameplay is laggy it may not be worth it. Don’t really want to spend $300 for something that may or may not suck.
Ah f@&k me that was the funniest intro to a greggs gadgets video ,i have ever seen you have a wicked sense of humour gregg
That intro was great! Please do more character acting in the future.
Anybody with the psportal when you go outside unplug your hdmi cable from your Playstation 5 you will barely experience lag after that, I'm playing madden and call of duty with no problems even cheap public wifi work flawlessly. You always gonna notice lag if you sitting in front of your TV, no hdmi cable no lag, wired connection to the ps5 always give it a big boost
Good to know!
It's stupid that people hate it simply because it's not a new PS Vita.
I love it and you really don’t need amazing internet to use it I have 25mb down 5mb up not the best internet and it worked great at home. Out and about it worked okay it’s best used at home or at someone else’s house who also has good internet. But that’s the thing you don’t need amazing internet to use this so you can still get a great experience. You do need a 5ghz wifi though and the people saying it sucks outside the home well yea your using either cellular data which always sucks your sharing a cell tower with how many other people and public wifi as well. At home you’re the only one using your network so it’s more stable.
one reason sony prolly isn't doing a full blown handheld is cuz it'd be like $400 and would go head2head against the Switch2, it's an uphill battle against the Switch2
So the good things were that you had a controller, which you can do with a tablet and your already owned Dual Sense (I have done that since the PS5 was released for gaming when visiting my parents with almost no lag. Maybe a couple of milliseconds).
The other good thing is that it's a tablet without the positives of a tablet, like connecting to cafe and hotel wifi which use browser (which is all of them in Sweden), streaming movies, using Bluetooth headphones.
I still haven't seen anyone mentioning anything new about it that we haven't been able to do for years.
Good for those who like it but it's just a money grab from Sony.
If I had way to much money I would probably buy because I don't need to care about money.
Does the PS5 HAVE to be on to use the PS Portal?
He just called It the stream deck
So what about public WiFi networks? It doesn't have a browser but most of the public WiFi networks wants you to log in or agree to their terms to be able to connect to it?
It won't work if that happen but there is one solution to it. Use a backbone attachment that you can get for $100, attached that to your phone and remote play your PS5 from there. Now you can use a browser to accept the terms of service and continue remote play from there on your phone.
@@VOANyea but remote play sucks on my phone. The portal is supposed to do it much better. I hope it does anyway
Wouldn’t work over hotel WiFi. They usually require a pass through of some sort and that requires a web browser that the Portal doesn’t have. Only non-public WiFi and 5G. Enjoy your game streaming!
Greatness, thats what this video is
Haha thanks
@@GregsGadgets I think you should always do the accent on future intros 😂

@ryans413 I like Vizio but I'm not gonna buy anything with Vizio on it, big difference.
you sold me with the accent sir
my pluse works just fine on the portal your should try them
Girlfriend would like to know if she can hook it up to her samsung s23 4g/5g mobile wifi /hot spot from her ps5 1202a model console
Yes you can
Phone + back bone = good enough
Phone+ backbone= tedious, inconvenient, battery drainer
Does the PlayStation 5 stay on while playing the portal?
Can the PS5 be on rest mode while the portal is being used??
Clicked through the profile to see what gadgets im missing out on and its just apple, every video is just apple, youre not really exploring gadgets, its just apple, but i also have the portal and am enjoying it
Pretty sure allowing cloud streamjng feature on the portal would affect ps5 sales....probably a conscious decision which I totally get
And why are you comparing portals to portables? They really have nothing in common.
Why not just sell portal games for 10 dollars if you already own the original. Also selling the portal for $140.00 would have this flying off the shelves. Adding cell service depending on the network you currently have would be a +
Because a ps5 controller is 60 bucks and a 8 inch display is 100 dollars then you have the chipset and electric parts that make it work. If you truly think about it and I know you not gonna like it but Sony is underselling each portal by 25-50 bucks just so people do buy it
But the Steamdeck is also a PS Portal by using Chiaki... Soooooooooooo...
I can’t get mine to work anymore
@@SweetKingTanner the steam deck?
Doesn't even have a case? So it's just supposed to sit home next to my ps5? Got it.
Although I enjoyed the review it seems most of the reviews are not accurate .Can't use Bluetooth headphones ! Yes you can if you have the pulse headphones and have the sound coming from the Ps5 .Can't sign in to public WiFi as there is no web browser.Erm yes you can put the Mac address of your portal into a laptop. You can then sign in on there .log out of address on laptop and then carry in ! Can all people do this ,probably not , will some want to ,maybe not but to say it can't is wrong .
Should be 150 price point
It’s actually priced fairly
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day.
Why not a psp 2 or a ps vita 2 or a hybrid? But this!

Returned mine. Not sure if it’s the internet connection but it’s lagging so much
Mine was the same way. I have the best internet money can buy so it had to be this. Thank god they took it back
It's your internet connection
Just sold mine today for a profit today, no likey!
Ps plus streaming will come
I think this is a great device, but at the same time it's garbage. Point for me was to use it natively when I am at work, can't connect to my work wifi and my hotspot barely keeps it running, other than using it while I watch something on TV (I barely watch TV), there's no point in keeping it so gonna return it :/
nah i prefer my games on a big ass tv.but i guess its got its uses for some people
For playing while poop
Why does mine lag so much
you're so wrong about multi player games I play diabol4 on my hotspot and i work at thee airport i have no problem at all warframe and plenty of games and no problem..
Well
They could just have made it a hand held pc
IGN rated the steam deck a 7/10 because “it doesn’t have exclusive” yet they rated the Ps portal a 8/10 even though it doesn’t have any exclusive and you need a ps5 in order to run it.
The Steam Deck is a handheld gaming device like the Switch, the PlayStation Portal is a PS5 accessory. Again, the Portal is an accessory so why would it have exclusives. The PS5 is the console and it has exclusives. The portal is an accessory.
@@omeromunoz30 It shouldn't be an 8/10 if it's an accessory. A fair score would be a 6/10.
@@omeromunoz30 Another point why get a portal when you can do the same thing it does on your phone for free?
@@teamofone1219 a phone doesn't compare its a different experience no notifications no phone calls bigger screen and depending on who buys it if its for a child they might not have a phone plus a decent phone would cost about800 upwards and thenthe backbone for100 if you want it, could buy another ps5 and another portal for the same price and have money left over but depends what you want or need it for really
@@Ad-on5zf Or just buy another freaking tv 🤷♂
Its just accessories not full blown product.
I’ve seen “reputable” reviewers say this device has a pretty good screen and it makes me wonder, how the F did these people get their reputation by being clueless about tech!? The screen on this device is trash! The black levels are terrible for a panel in damn near 2024. I’ve seen better blacks on a switch from a decade ago, and if you can’t get that right then you know they’re not serious about anything else on it.
Does it lag as bad as remote play ?
I guess they’re just testing the waters.. I think the next one will be much better maybe where you can slap those physical discs in the back a la PSP
That doesn’t make sense for a remote player might as well just make a psp at that moment
That's not going to happen. They're already charging a ridiculous amount for the Portal and it doesn't even have gaming hardware in it. No way they're going to smash the power of a PS5 into a lightweight handheld size without raising that price to be more than the PS5 itself.
Wich game 3:17
Final Fantasy XVI
This is essentially a modern WiFi device that just came out with heavy reliance on fast connectivity and doesn’t have at least WiFi 6E. 🤨 Come on Sony. Still, a somewhat interesting device for playing games while in bed .. cuz that’s healthy.
@JUDAHYAHWEHKiNG Have you thought hmm maybe that's a stupid way to test things by charging way too much for something that doesn't work well?
That'd be like a restaurant selling a vegan steak for double the cost of a real steak and saying "If this sells well we'll make it real meat and reduce the price".
Doesn't work for shit on my Iphone 13 hotspot 😭
How did you connect it to the cafe wifi with the Portal not having a web browser? Does the cafe not require you to agree to terms to sign into their wifi? Sounds a bit sus, as other reviewers said they couldn't sign into public wifi because of this issue.
He getting paid by sony. My friends have one and they can't connect to Starbucks or McDonald's wifi
@@ghostrider2698 Yeah. Check out Wulff Den's review. He states he got it for free from Sony in order to do an ad for it, and he tells the viewers that it's supposed to be an ad, and then rips it apart.
The funny thing I keep seeing is people keep putting the steam deck and the rog Ally against the PlayStation portal and it’s not even close to one another it’s crazy and quite funny my friends and I made a drinking game out of it this last weekend and you won’t believe how so many people do 😞

Great video but as an Englishman, that was an appalling attempt at an English accent 😂
I really thought he was a British guy at first! The main issue I have with my Oled Switch is it tends to be a tad heavy imo in portable mode.. And with my Vita finally biting the dust I’m torn on what direction to go in next up.. I mean if I replace the PSV I can use those old games again which would be cool
It's not a portable. It's a lounging system.
But it is portable
Well it’s called portal not portable.
I want to have an iphone 15 pro cause I want to experience the next level gaming performance it has as well as the newly improved camera and of course the new shortcut button everybody is raving about! I’ve been using an Iphone XR all this time, I think it’s about time to upgrade for a change. 😅
