@@x_teqaneither is this device. You need remote play for it to work. No connection, no fun. The switch lite is a better option since its actually portable and costs the same. You need the ps5 to be on so might as well play on it

Thanks for the trick of Unplugging the HDMI cable from our console for a better remote play experience! I always had a bad experience on my default PS4 Pro with default HDD doing remote play in ideal network conditions (local home network). Once I plugged out the HDMI cable, now the remote play experience on my smartphone is significantly better. You are a life saver man 💯🙏👏

I love this thing. It's a really good form factor and the streaming quality is great for the most part on my network. Some games definitely suffer more like fast paced MP games but Ive found CoD for example to be palyable.
I've been able to play more because of its portability and finally getting to games I've been holding off. Even the hitches in streaming I get is not a turn off. I've played lower quality games on switch at much worse performance that it's not a big issue. If they can improve streaming quality and allow for more data, this thing will be even better! Hopefully cloud streaming gets added as well since PS5 streaming Ive had better performance at 4K.

There is a secret website browser. Just like other devices, go to about this device and click to read the terms and conditions. It should open a website.

It’s not about HDMI and having PS5 to transmit the signal to your TV or monitor. It’s actually probably something else, as it seems the PS5 pushes the signal to the Portal without downscaling it, therefore if you have a 4K tv connected to the console, it would just push the whole thing to the Portal as is. Which doesn’t make much sense for a 1080p Portal screen, but it takes way more bandwidth creating additional latency, compression artifacts and such. Therefore, when you unplug your TV, the PS5 doesn’t need to create 4K signal any longer and this is why you may see some improvement in performance and quality. Meaning the alternative solution to unplugging your HDMI is to change the resolution on the PS5 to 1080 and it should do the same trick. It’s a shitty solution either way and hope Sony would fix it so you can keep playing 4k on your tv and 1080 on Portal without unplugging, changing the resolution back and forth, and other nonsense.

Definitely going to try this first before unplugging the HDMI. Neither is ideal, I agree, but I am getting some judder when playing Spiderman, and it's a bit distracting. Hope this helps it. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment. I was reading through other comments to see more info on this. If I have my PS5 plugged into my 4K tv, but the tv stays off is it still sending that signal?
Additionally isn’t there an automatic resolution option? Wouldn’t that bypass the issue?

And this is what I don’t get… it’s a damn great piece of hardware… if Sony just send some more updates and fix all these minor issues that we have this little thing would be practically perfect… the stuff you mentioned actually works but I shouldn’t have to be changing all that stuff when I want to jump back and forth between remote/controller playing!in this day and age I refuse to accept a device that don’t have a web browser!!!! Come on Sony I just spent $199.00 on this lovely remote player the least you can do is send me some darn updates!!!!!

As far as I can see the light bar doesn't have a bug. It seems that it gets a special coding for games which commands it to show certain colors. You can see that with Saint's Row that gives the light bar a purplish color that resonates with a dkminant color of the game - not necessarliy the color of the screen a a given moment.The menu doesn't send a code so it shows no color. At least that is what I assume.

For audio, the better hack is to get a bluetooth transmitter with a 3.5mm headphone jack (usually for airplane use)…this connects to your portals headphone jack and transmits Bluetooth to you headphones.
This is such a underated comment, I used to do this on my ps4 controller when my main headset went down.
Absolutely! I use “Airfly Duo” transmitter (got it on sale for $37 from Amazon). It works great!

What’s the latency like?
There is a delay, no worse than when using them elsewhere….it’s a delay from the transmitter itself. It is very slight.

You probably haven’t experienced this yet, but how do you replace or repair the buttons when they break? My son has gone through a few PS5 controllers and when the buttons break, I’m curious how to replace or repair the buttons on the PS Portal.

Awesome video man! One thing I figured out is that you can use RUclips on the Portal and even sign in, but it has to be through the PS5's browser. Unfortunately though it won't be full screen and the resolution is maxed out at 1080p (obviously), but it is still cool that it works at least.

@@CKidM Will do. This is the easiest way that I discovered.
While connected to your PS5, go to settings, network, connection status, view PlayStation Network status. It will then open up a browser page. Just scroll down to the bottom and you will find a RUclips icon at the bottom right. Simply click on it and you will be taken to RUclips.

Great video! 2 questions. I just tried using my portal while connected to WiFi. My ps5 is connected to lan (same internet) I was getting disconnected any idea why? And 2nd question, I tried the HDMI trick u mentioned and it was making my connection worse surprisingly. Tried taking hdmi from monitor and hdmi out from console same result
Loving my portal so far, definitely will have to try unplugging HDMI see if there's any noticeable difference. Mines ran really good so far so not sure if it will do much for me.

Damn the community really communiting 😂 the Portal is good! but we need some stability updates and quality of life improvements ASAP.
This unnecessary lag needs to stop, it's annoying because you can hear the audio is there but the screen freezes up so I pause every time it stutters. This had me in my router settings fiddling with options lol
On the PS5 these settings may help
PS5 > System Settings > Network > Settings > Setup Up Internet Connection > Wired LAN 1 > Press Options and WiFi Frequency Bands > Select 5 GHz
All your Screen and Video Settings should be set to Automatic
PS5 > System Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > Game Presets > Performance Mode or Resolution Mode > Select Performance

Nice vid, bro. Just brought the portal living in New Zealand a couple days ago. Released on the 2nd Feb. Will try that to remove HDMI from tv. Hope it helps out with the hungry data cookie monster. My mobile plan is only 10GB per month. The portal used like 3g in an hour or 2. I'm looking for an unlimited plan, but they got clauses like fair use policy, so they can boot me if i use too much. Any tips to reduce Data would be helpful in gaming away from my house on mobile.

I was going to unplug my HDMI but never got around to it. The portal has been working great. Ill have to try some of these tips. First thing i did was put a screen protector on as soon as i peeled of the protective screen.

I got a question, I work in the oilfield and stay in many hotels.. I don’t own a portal but my question is, if I play in the hotel, will my ps5 turn on at home and screen monitor stay on? Like for instance will they be able to see my game from home or will the monitor turn off?

Im loving the portal and ive got 150mb download and 50 upload so pretty fast. Every game i play is spot on par my fav eafc24 it plays well but then fps and latency drops only does it on eafc24 so whats best way round that? With settings

I''ve had connectivity problems on bootup, what works best is to boot up PS5 like normal and after I log into main menu, then boot up Portal it connects better than having the Portal try and do it by itself

Awesome video, one thing about the wifi you are using. If you don’t have a way to connect your ps5 wired which is better. Use a new wifi6 router it made a big difference for me and it was way better.

I play about cod and sports games and was super excited to grab this. I’ve done everything and I guess it runs as smooth as a handheld should? But input lag still seems like it’s there. It’s like playing on a tv without game mode enabled . I’m ranked in mlb the show in the world and I can’t even hit on the portal
When I play Mortal Kombat or another game I don't have a log experience, but if I play NBA2K 23 it happens a lot, do you know why that happens?

Is the Bluetooth problem the reason I can’t hear in game chat while playing GTA5 online? I use my wired head sent and only can hear game sound affects while using the PS PORTAL.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

What does it do
@bossedup957 it just gives you alerts whenever an item gets back in stock in store or on a website.
@bossedup957 it's called hotstock. Don't know why my other comment was deleted... but it's a simple app no payments no bullshit just shows you when items get back into stock.
The console itself is very good. I received it the day before the release as a pre-order and I liked it, but! I can’t count how many times I tried to connect remotely. Not once has the console connected remotely to my PS5 from other locations. At home, under home Internet conditions, everything works well. I’m visiting a friend, I’ve never been able to connect to a bar anywhere remotely, it says something went wrong. Although all the settings are set correctly both on the PS 5 itself and on the console itself. I do not know what to do. I rechecked, reformatted, reconfigured, nothing helps, I tried to connect remotely to a friend’s console, it’s impossible, and I tried to distribute the Internet through the phone and through other networks, it’s useless, it doesn’t work. All the settings and remote access, and standby modes, and even turned on the console, tried to connect with the PS5 console on and different Internet connections, nothing works. as soon as you go home, connect to Wifi at home, everything works fine, in other cases it doesn’t work. I do not know what to do!😊
