  • This is LNER’s Azuma Highland Chieftain once a day service from York to Inverness.
The Highland Chieftain is a named British passenger train operated by London North Eastern Railway. It operates daily in each direction between London King's Cross and Inverness via the East Coast and Highland Main Line. It is one of the longest train journeys in the United Kingdom at 581 miles with a journey time of eight hours.
Historically the principal train between London and the Scottish Highlands was The Clansman which ran via the West Coast Main Line.
The Highland Chieftain was introduced with the May 1984 timetable, the running time then being 8 hours 40 minutes southbound and 8 hours 50 minutes northbound and was intended to replace The Clansman. Today it has a journey time of eight hours. Originally operated by InterCity 125 sets, since December 2019 the service has been operated by Class 800 Azumas.
Electric locomotive 87023, which operated on the West Coast Main Line, was named Highland Chieftain between 1978 and 1984, but never had an association with the passenger service. Class 43 LNER High Speed Train power car 43308, which has operated the service, was named Highland Chieftain.

      bit unhelpful how it goes:
"ok here's when we arrive at Darlo and Newcastle, ready for everything else? Blink and you'll miss it! 3..2...1... GO!"

Thank you so much for recording this journey, I’ve often wondered what Scotland was like North of Edinburgh and away from the TV favourites. As a single pensioner it was very good for me to have something other than normal TV to watch. As a Lumix photographer I have 4 technical questions: 1. What camera did you use? 2. How did you mount the camera? 3. Did you record the whole 6 hour journey and edit? 4. Was permission required to shoot onboard with LNER? Thanks once again. TonyG.

Hi Tony, it was filmed on a iPhone SE 2 on 4K 60 FPS and I o my filmed the certain parts featured of the journey. You don’t need to ask permission to film on a train in the UK.
