Found a copy of Batman 227 (my favorite cover of all time) in a dollar bin at the Heroes Convention back in 2019. Super beat up copy (probably a .5) but I just sent it in for encapsulation just because it means so much to me.
So TOS is a bit of a hit miss, idk I guess if you want TOS for some less high tier characters, I’d probably go for a poison ivy first over black widow, long term. Black widow is dead, you buying black widow and Hawkeye? Sinking ship, bail out now. Edit also just to clarify Hawkeye is a b tier character from TOS. Edit edit, Hawkeye is Wolverine who is also Batman, who is Batman again? A Viking? A berserker? Idk I heard this rumour about it somewhere. You can say it, I’ll let you,,, you know the words,,, I’m B…. That’s the one

I see a lot of raw comics going for already graded prices where I’m from. I would gladly buy books if they went for eBay prices but sadly I never do. Plus a lot of the time they have it priced at a grade or two above what the book actually is.
Main issue, especially when buying on-line, is restoration. I have purchased so many books that look terrific on eBay only to find amateurish color touch, glue, cover trimming on silver age keys. Lots of potential disappointment even when sellers accept the return. The worst is when I miss the restoration and then receive the dreaded PLOD.
Oh I also got my 9.6 store 337 White pages. Mark Jewelers comic back from cgc finally! I sent it in the first time and they did not put the Mark Jewelers on the label so I had to send it back in and have them corrected under mechanical error. It took about a month each time, from the time I sent the book to the time I got it back. However, when I look at the census on go collect anyway, it doesn't show any grades for 9.6 of that book so I'm having trouble figuring out how to price it if I were to sell it. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks a lot and keep up the awesome content!
I'm having trouble finding the section that you're using that's showing these values. Is that not available under the free registration? Do I need to sign up for the $8 monthly tier to be able to find the information that you were just showing?

Swagg! I found a Batman #227 at an estate sale over the weekend, for only $20!! Also found a Detective #400, Superman #233 and others, all beautiful condition, potentially 8.0 - 9.0. Sent them off to press yesterday, Very Excited!
Great video. My Conan 1 came back a 9.6 WP CGC. I paid .50. it was in a bin. Rare. Also, that Batman, you audience needs to be really sharp on which print edition it is. You need to recognize 1st versus 2nd printing. It is not obvious except by the different grey tone on the inside cover and facing page. Match/Don't match. 2nd printing notation was left off.
Most keys have so many copies, never actually miss out. I stay away from books everyone has, they always fall off a cliff. Hype doesn’t last long these days, change happens much faster, change actually speeds up over time
I switched to commissions on blank covers, that way I get to pick the cover idea. Made an order for 2 full custom sketch covers, I still didn’t get to see it yet. But I have to admit it’s the most exciting way to collect that I’ve experienced so far.
I don’t really see how older comics can maintain a high value long term. There are always some people that want something just because it’s old and rare, but a lot of people want to collect what they grew up with and that’s changing with each generation. The older stuff just won’t have the same nostalgia that it does for many people now who actually read and enjoyed them.

I got a raw (now graded 7.5) Batman 227 for $200 and $30 for a raw Dark knight returns 1 that came back a graded 9.8 😜🤘

how do you find estate sales?
I have a Batman 227 that I have recently had pressed and cleaned. I’m hoping for at least a 7.0, maybe 7.5 when I send it in to be graded.

Are you sure you're not thinking about Dark Knight Returns # 2? I've heard what you're saying about 2, but I've not heard it about 1.
Double check if it was issue 1 or issue 2 that had the indices issue. It trips people up all the time

That first Dazzler is going to crash after the dead pool movie, in my opinion!

Done trying to collect in a way that would gain respect from other collectors. Iron Man 55 is a good book but hard to look at, cover is awful.
