Sounds pretty good to me. I think the best feature is the tone capture, which is basically an poor man’s kemper. And it sounds very similar to the real amp too, as demo’ed by ola
The tech coming out these days is mindblowing. Pair this with a couple of essential FX and an EHX 44 Magnum, and with exception to a cab your entire rig could fit in in your gig bag. I must say I'm impressed. Kid's got it way too easy these days. ("Get off my lawn!" moment) LOL!
Yeah it's cool. Although especially with guitars, I think nothing beats a real good tube amp with a few great pedals in terms of sound, like a pricey distortion, reverb+delay pedal, Wah and you can be set. But in terms of "rig in a bag", I'm selling my bass Amp and 4x10 cab to get a darkglass Alpha Omega pedal. Nice preamp sounds, cab sim, straight into the PA, set. Also in my home studio I can't crank my amp, but I can use that pedal. Done. No micing. Love it.
I'm doing exactly that but I even decided to go with a 1x12 of my choice. It's amazing because you know what to expect on stage and you can carry it yourself. Mooer 012 is also one of the best cheap preamp pedals out there to my ears.
I want a Darkglass. I've heard nothing but good stuff about them. I had a TECH21 Character Series VT bass for awhile, and it made tracking bass ideas simple easy and the cab sim was spot on. It's a shame TECH21 discontinued the line, because they & and AMT were top dog in this target market for a few years IMO before the digital stuff started to sound better. I dig preamps for versatility, but I agree, nothing beats having a raging tube amp at your back, especially if power amp distortion is your thing. I got a '71 Sunn, and the only way to get it to growl without a pedal is to crank the living snot out of it. : )
You mention that there's this "big tone in such a small package." As someone who's built and designed a few pedal circuits, I can say that without a doubt, you can get some really big sounds out of teeny circuits. A good example is the Bazz Fuss circuit: a pedal who's components just consist of a single NPN tranny for clipping, two capacitors, and a diode. The only reason these pedals are so big is because of PCBs, through-hole components, and these switches and pots are pretty big. I imagine that since hardware is getting smaller, pedals will just keep getting smaller until the biggest component is the 1/4" jacks that you plug into :P In other news, I'm very excited to check out the tone capture! I'd love to see how it'd fare against a few valve amp conversions people have done.
This is pretty cool.. Tone capture and You can actually deep edit it with a smartphone when you are away from pc...All in small package. Mooer just raised the bar a little bit here.
It looks like they've upgraded it quite a bit since the launch. I just got one and the amp list is now the same as what's available on the GE-300, so they've added over 50 amps since it first came out. Not only that but there's now a seperate tab for the "boost" pedal, so no matter if you pick a Klon, Blues Driver, 808, etc.. they all have bass, mid & treble controls. The only thing that's missing that a lot of people really wished that they would add is an eq section to the IR loader like the Radar has. Other than that, if you don't need the effects, this is a pretty stellar option for the price if someone either can't afford a Helix, Kemper, etc.. or just doesn't like the complexity of editing patches.
I am impressed by this little box. I am in no hurry to purchase as I have a decent sound right now. You honestly can't beat the flexibility of the technology coming out today. It is a blessing and a curse. You can find yourself on a quest for the ultimate tone and get lost in the myriad of features a box like this has vs. plugging in and playing and developing your chops. I am not at all against these boxes. Gimme more.. I just think there is a risk too. But hey, it is fun.. Nice demo by the way. I am subscribing..
I think it's time to do phase 2 of this product since I believe when you did this dating have version 2.0 out and now they have even more heads and cabinets
Hey Fluff, have you ever considered revisiting the many songs and riffs on your review videos, combining and/or making complete songs out of them, and releasing a record? I'm sure a good number of us would be willing to buy that 💲💲💲
Im not a good guitar player, I just love tweaking settings to find the tone that I want. I could spend hours of tweaking and enjoy it. This might be the holy grail to me 😁
Im with you. You NEED to get a few tc electronic pedals. Tone print is PURE TITS.get a delay, a reverb, a modulation, and a drive with tone print and the world is your oyster. With those you can clone ANY TC PEDALS onto what you already have. Ill tell you right now the only thing they dont do well is reverse reverb.just get the cheapest option in each " type" of pedal and you can have the entire lineup they offer, dozens of presets for each, and more knobs and sliders and graphs and everything. They made these for people like you and i
Pre and Post noisegate is a killer feature tbh. I like to clean up the signal in front of my preamp and also afterwards. Cool idea. Tone capturing is just the icing on the cake.

If this had a simple reverb and delay to pair with the boost, it would be perfect for backup.
Cant wait for the tone capture video. I know it's alittle redundent but if you had a preamp you liked on another mulit fx like the Headrush could you tone capture that if mooer doesnt have a preamp similar like a soldano for example? i'd be really curious to see how that would sound and if it would degrade it any.
It shouldn't degrade too much - Peavey Revalver has a very similar feature and I've used it to grab distortion pedals, old Boss GT5 tones that included pedals etc, for ease of use the unit you want to capture should have a send and return but applying a little creativity will get you far.
I was thinking about getting Mooer's Black Truck to play live in order to get rid of my pedalboard. I plan on using it in conjunction with my amp Head and maybe using it straight into the PA if the venue has got a good one, but after seeing this pedal I'm a bit confused on where to put my money on. With this I could clone the tone of my amp and have it all the time everywhere I go, together with IRs. What should I do? The only thing stoppng me from getting this one over the Black Truck is the fact that this doesn't have FX like delay and reverb honestly.
I'm with you, I really want this but I need a simple reverb delay and chorus. I wonder how easy it would be to run 3 of those fx pedals in conjuction with the unit itself to make that final decisions. It helps that I have 3 tiny tomsline fx that could fit on a board if this could play well with them
I just bought a Black Truck, and it does NOT come with a power supply - You need to purchase one separately. It needs a standard 9V DC 1A (1000mA) Pos outside ring , neg inside ring. A OneSpot will work just fine.
I would go with this and a multieffect unit like an h9. Because this thing has midi, you can program the footswitches to automatically change the ME unit to whatever presets you set up. Also, I got the black truck and while I do love the setup and simplicity, I have to say that the hi gain section sucks. They dropped the ball on not using the black Secret pedal instead of the hi gain. I'm trying to figure out if I can modify that module to a black Secret, then I will be completely happy with it. But the hi gain is basically unusable for me. It sounds ok in the fx return, but then I can't use the 4cable method. Anyway, my two pennies
Can you cover how the headphone out sounds? There are so many products with phone out and it's rarely covered. Having a headphone out for practice/travel is one of the biggest appeals of small things like this for me, but I can never get an idea of how it sounds without buying one for myself. It's so frustrating!
Hey Fluff the song you played at 1:27...is that XLR going directly into your interface? I just bought a terror stamp and the cab sim output literally just sounds like a regular DI without a cab sim.....it's horrible and I'll be returning it and now leaning towards this. Thanks!
Love your channel. Got a question for anyone who knows. I’m got a mini 6505. And tons of pedals. More then I should have. Can this tone capture my overdrives and distortion pedals with the amp I have sounds I like with all my pedals. But if I could tone capture just a few it be great
What were you using to get that bass tone? It sounds like you split it in parallel but the distortion part sounds awesome. What did you use for that? Any other tips on how to get that huge bass tone
On the first tune, would your tone normally be that buzzy or is that the character of that sound in the pedal, in other words, would you dial that out of your amp if you could?
So if the mini preamps over heat( they do, all the time) how does this handle heat reduction? I get the minis dont have room, but if you leave one on for over an hour you can fry a tiny egg on them.
I don’t understand why they cal it a preamp when it has basically everything say a Pod 2.0 has and more. The Pod 2.0 modeled amps are just that complete amps.
Interesting product. How would you set it up with an amp and multi effects unit ? Assuming you use the preamp live in the amps effect loop ,where would the multi effects chain go ?
Hey man, amazing review. I have a very specific question. I hope you can help me out. I’m in a fix lol I am trying to set up a pedal board with Line6 HX Effects (for all pedals) and the Mooer preamp live (for amp and cab sims) along with a couple of expression pedals hooked up to the Line6 HX Effects. My question is, in a live setting would I need to add a portable power amp to the signal chain? (Something like a Mooer baby bomb or Harley Benton GPA-100 or the Seymour Duncan power amp series) Is it necessary? And if it is, where should it be in the signal chain in context to what I wrote above? I’m unable to find this information. I want the Mooer preamp live to be at the end of my signal chain so I’m able to send the XLR out to front of house. Please advice! Thanks once again and great video I subscribed.
I'm definitely not a pro when it comes to recording but due to budget reasons I'm also recording with the SM58 and the sound is pretty good. I was just wondering, how do you upload your own IRs?
This is useful for quite a few reasons. Basically if you get a Preamp Live, a Mooer BabyBomb, a Mooer 1x12 cab and a Mooer Radar for around 1000usd dollars you can have a setup that will work in almost unlimited situations. Also sound engineers in gigs will adore you for helping them keep the stage noise low if you play with something like this and a Mooer Radar (you don't even need a Radar if this has IR capabilities) in a live setting. Also the tone matching feature is amazing since Ola has demoed it and sounds pretty close to the real thing. I have a reamping company and we use tube amps for our guitar tone but stuff like this bring a smile to my face since it only helps when digital sounds this good. This pedal could be used everywhere from live to the studio. And if it has ir loading capabilities then it's everything the little gig guitarist could ever want. Edit: This has power amp simulation and ir loading capabilities. This is better than I orogonally thought and goes to show how Mooer are the kings of guitar gear right now.
so, this vs their ge200 pedal modeler (which is cheaper)? It has basicly the same amps and a ton of effects.. I don't need those effects so I like this form factor more, but why is it more expensive??
I've read several times that the amps in the GE200 are not of the same quality as the Micro Preamps. That was also what my ears were telling me when I compared reviews of those products on RUclips.
anyone know if you can rename the presets? Mooer has changed the names since the early pedals were released (I assume some pissed off competitors. i.e. "FiftyFifty" is now called the "Brown Sound" instead). I've been holding off on buying any of the micro preamp pedals after seeing this thing at NAMM. I never expected tone capture though. SOLD!
The SM58 and SM57 are the exact same mic with different grills. The grill on the 58 naturally decreases proximity (because of its globular design) and "resonates", adding some 5k (is what Shure says). Having used both for the same applications, the difference is negligible to all but the avid A/Ber actually looking for that .0005% difference. Personally, I find the SM57 is better for everything because I can get as close as I want to the capsule.
i think the pre-amp live may be better as it is tailor made just for pre-amp stuff, putting all its DSP into the amp modeling, it's also more expensive than the GE200
Lots of nice info on this product in the 2 videos! I thought of a 3rd one where you could compare your rig tone (Rockerverb pre and power +your cab) with the tone captured one+preamplive power emulation+your IR direct into the computer. This would show what you can do with this pedal by itself after you have captured a "real tone". that's the only thing missing IMO. Btw, great job! Cheers from Italy
Alan Almantí it doesn’t have a power section, but you could run it straight into the PA and have your sound coming through a floor monitor to hear yourself
I still have no idea what a pre-amp does and why you need one. I have a DOD 250 preamp and I use it on my solid state Fender Frontman and LOVE it. Gives my dad riffs a lot of crunchy and sustain when I play my guitar 20 minutes a week. Am I doing it wrong?
For a 300ish $ you get: all of their preamp pedals, their cab sim, a Torpedo Cab and a Kemper.. 😱 Mooer are simply killing it! American citizens: grab yours before Trump raise the Chinese import taxes to 1000% 😂 GREAT review and dat' sound: dayum!
Sounds pretty good to me. I think the best feature is the tone capture, which is basically an poor man’s kemper. And it sounds very similar to the real amp too, as demo’ed by ola
I agree... but I'm not sure what you mean by "an old man's Kemper." Did you mean "a poor man's Kemper?"
Jesse Cole shit totally a typo, i think i was a bit tipsy that day lmao
Very impressed by the tones, features and price point. Mooer is quickly becoming the Zoom of the 21st century, but with quality sounds and equipment.
With XLR output you could even not bother with the cab or power amp :) Although without stage volume at your back life isn't as much fun...

Hey fluff remember when you gave us the 5150 talk? Could you do the same thing with rectifiers?
So the Tone Capture makes this a mini-Kemper, right?
Not really. More like tone match in Bias.
This has to be sponsored! Paul Davids said the exactly same “most in the tiniest package” thing. If not, great vid😉

I adore my Brown Sound pre-amp pedal. My only question is, does it have an effects loop?
yes it does. can choose serial or parallel.
If its as good as the ocean machine...me wants it💯
This works brilliantly with the Ocean Machine via Midi.
I know I'm a year late to this video, but had to comment on that "same channel button boost" mode. That needs to be in every modeler forever
Hey Fluff, have you ever considered revisiting the many songs and riffs on your review videos, combining and/or making complete songs out of them, and releasing a record? I'm sure a good number of us would be willing to buy that 💲💲💲
Been checking out the Mooer gear and they are killing it! After seeing this I am glad I never spent 2700.00 on the Kemper last week.
This modern gear is just great. So much more flexibility and lighter etc great times
It sounds really good! Also, killer bass tone in that tune.
Sometimes I just listen to gear demos for the music :)
it sounded quite good on the demo song I must say !

Iñigo Zapata yep 110% correct! He’ll of a value still. I want the 001, 005, and 011 preamps, I’ll probably still by the preamp live.
I thought this demo song was excellent!!
Just the kind of music I like making. Right up my alley!
I don't think I've ever seen a Sennheiser e906 used to make IR's, except for in the ML Sound Lab's djent pack I believe.

I think I'll wait for the GE-300. It does everything this does with FX.
The 300 will likely be an extra 2-300 bones though.

Hey man, amazing review. I have a very specific question. I hope you can help me out. I’m in a fix lol
I am trying to set up a pedal board with Line6 HX Effects (for all pedals) and the Mooer preamp live (for amp and cab sims) along with a couple of expression pedals hooked up to the Line6 HX Effects.
My question is, in a live setting would I need to add a portable power amp to the signal chain? (Something like a Mooer baby bomb or Harley Benton GPA-100 or the Seymour Duncan power amp series)

no need for power amp in live, as this is supposed to be at the venue (or in your monitoring situation)
lovin the shirt!!
Any Mooer Bass Preamp?
Hi Ryan. Does the Cab section of the PREAMP LIVE replace the Radar pedal? Greetings from Chile.
I'm definitely not a pro when it comes to recording but due to budget reasons I'm also recording with the SM58 and the sound is pretty good.
I was just wondering, how do you upload your own IRs?
Replacing the original ones, there are lot of videos on youtube
What guitar is that? Pretty sweet.
That guitar is delicious.
Couple questions:
1. Would you buy this?
2. What applications do you see this being most useful?
This is useful for quite a few reasons. Basically if you get a Preamp Live, a Mooer BabyBomb, a Mooer 1x12 cab and a Mooer Radar for around 1000usd dollars you can have a setup that will work in almost unlimited situations. Also sound engineers in gigs will adore you for helping them keep the stage noise low if you play with something like this and a Mooer Radar (you don't even need a Radar if this has IR capabilities) in a live setting. doe's this preamp not exist yet? I've tried finding it and nobody has it
Is this better than all the smaller preamp pedals that they released? I find the smaller pedals way clearer sound. Is it just the video demo?
Had pass a year since you comment , what do you find ?? . I think the same as you looks like mini pedals sound better
Is it act as an audio interface as well?
2:48 - Fluff be taking me on a tooer of the mooer
Could you use this to send an emulated cab DI'd to a PA, and then also have it send the pre out to a power amp into a cab?
yes, has switchable cab/ir sim for each output.
so, this vs their ge200 pedal modeler (which is cheaper)? It has basicly the same amps and a ton of effects.. I don't need those effects so I like this form factor more, but why is it more expensive??
Tone capture
I've read several times that the amps in the GE200 are not of the same quality as the Micro Preamps. That was also what my ears were telling me when I compared reviews of those products on RUclips.
Fluff have I ever told you your playing stoyle stands out on RUclips and I love it.
Amazing piece of great btw. I love the singular high gain preamps.
Ryan How this sound compared with the ge200 ?
What was your signal chain in this video
Do these preamps sound different than what are in the ge200?
Is it possible to just ise the cab sim on the preamp live ?
How does it handle bass?
12 Preamps In One? Sounds like a nice solution for a cover band
anyone know if you can rename the presets? Mooer has changed the names since the early pedals were released (I assume some pissed off competitors. i.e. "FiftyFifty" is now called the "Brown Sound" instead). I've been holding off on buying any of the micro preamp pedals after seeing this thing at NAMM. I never expected tone capture though. SOLD!
Since it has a cab simulation, can I connect it directly to the PA? How about the power section?
It’s recommended to connect a power anp like the mooer baby bomb 30W (~$100)
HI fluff, greetings from Chile! This preamp works with 12v power suply, but, can this works with a 9v?
9v
Nice Failure poster.
Are there pres for bass? I saw it's got svt cabs so..
Could you do a vid on the 58 mic info? Maybe compare to 57 and others?
The SM58 and SM57 are the exact same mic with different grills. The grill on the 58 naturally decreases proximity (because of its globular design) and "resonates", adding some 5k (is what Shure says). Having used both for the same applications, the difference is negligible to all but the avid A/Ber actually looking for that .0005% difference. Personally, I find the SM57 is better for everything because I can get as close as I want to the capsule.
I've definitely heard better guitar tones, but in a mix, this thing doesn't sound half bad. This wouldn't make for a bad practice or bedroom rig.
is this one comparable to the ge200 in terms of tone quality? do both use the same preamp technology?
i think the pre-amp live may be better as it is tailor made just for pre-amp stuff, putting all its DSP into the amp modeling, it's also more expensive than the GE200
10:45 my last serenade?
Lots of nice info on this product in the 2 videos! I thought of a 3rd one where you could compare your rig tone (Rockerverb pre and power +your cab) with the tone captured one+preamplive power emulation+your IR direct into the computer. This would show what you can do with this pedal by itself after you have captured a "real tone". that's the only thing missing IMO. Btw, great job!
Cheers from Italy
i wish someone would put an actual boost/od pedal in front of this thing.
Fuck man so much stuff coming out these days and not enough money and time to play with it all lol
WHEN WILL THE JST GIVEAWAY WINNER BE ANNOUNCED ??!??!??!!
I remember reading a comment from their Instagram saying the winner will be announced September 1st
Full disclosure?
what is an IR?
without a display to show preset etx- its pretty pointless unless hooked to a computer- mooer can do it right and make a kemper beater for $499
hey and how you choose in between the banks?
Hit 1+2 (Bank A) 2+3 (Bank B) or 3+4 (Bank C)
whats it cost?
But does it Djent? 🤔
i prefer a tube preamp pedal: the best of one world :) no need digital distorsion :) but maybe you received the pedal (free) just to make a demo :) :)
Didn't say tour of the mooer? I'm disappointed
For sure.
I have a question, hope anybody can help me, Can I gig with this Mooer Preamp and a Cab only? I mean...this could replace my amp?
Alan Almantí it doesn’t have a power section, but you could run it straight into the PA and have your sound coming through a floor monitor to hear yourself
Or you could buy Moore’s baby bomb 30w power amp ($108) and run it with the preamp live and a cab!
he just showed in the video it has power amp sim
I still have no idea what a pre-amp does and why you need one. I have a DOD 250 preamp and I use it on my solid state Fender Frontman and LOVE it. Gives my dad riffs a lot of crunchy and sustain when I play my guitar 20 minutes a week. Am I doing it wrong?
For a 300ish $ you get: all of their preamp pedals, their cab sim, a Torpedo Cab and a Kemper.. 😱 Mooer are simply killing it!
American citizens: grab yours before Trump raise the Chinese import taxes to 1000% 😂
