Speaking as a lifelong Penguins fan, Crosby owes us literally nothing. If he wants to leave to play for a contender, he absolutely should and no one should hold it against him. That being said, I don't think he's going anywhere. The report is that Dubas laid multiple offers on the table and that Crosby is just taking his time mulling them over.

The question he’ll have to answer for himself is whether he wants to retire as a Penguin or if he wants a shot at another Cup, because unless he wants to defy the aging process significantly and Pittsburgh rebuilds miraculously quickly, he probably can’t have both. This is where a GM has to use his head over his heart sometimes. It all depends on how many years Sid wants on his next contract. If it’s multi-year, they can kick that can down the road. If it’s year by year, management may want to go to him at the deadline and see where he’s at as far as wanting to take a run with another team. Obviously it’s frowned on by the league, but he could conceivably play for another team after February, win a Cup, and resign with Pittsburgh to help with the rebuild. That way everyone wins.

The bottom line is crosby can play for whoever he wants for pretty much any dollar amount, no matter his age, but he probably knows hes probably got 2 maybe 3 years of "good" hockey left in him and doesn't want to end on a bad note for his own sake, if he doesn't sign this season and the pens don't make the playoffs I gauruntee it will be his last game we see of him. You have to remember hes 37, not married and no kids, he probably wants to live a "normal" life and leave knowing he left it all out there and didn't keep playing just to play, no matter how many points he finishes with he will always be known as one of the best players to ever play the game, everyone has an opinion but he is by far in the top 5 of all time and I don't think that would ever change.

I get why this is a topic in the hockey world, but I think it's much ado about nothing. I'm convinced 100% that the _only_ reason Crosby hasn't signed an extension is that (1) he's not even in Pittsburgh for the summer, and wanted to really get away from the game for a bit, and (2) honestly hasn't decided how much longer he wants to play.
I forget who the interviewer was. But he was in studio for an interview a while ago on TSN (I think), and Zdeno Chara came up. The interviewer mentioned Crosby's longevity, and asked him if he could see himself playing until his mid 40's like Chara. And Crosby vehemently and immediately quashed the idea, saying "I've played a lot of hockey." I'm sure Crosby could play until his mid 40's if he wanted to, but it looks like he doesn't want to.
I think he signs before the season. As a lifelong Pittsburgh resident and Pens fan, I don't think he wants to listen to "are you going to sign soon?" questions all season long. It'd be a distraction for the team and I'm sure he knows that. If he really wanted out, I think he'd already be gone.

Depends. Crosby has a full NMC so he could make the trade market very restrictive if he wanted. But if he were open to going to multiple teams in a sign and trade, yeah the return options would be huge and honestly Dubas should be rebuilding fully if he is trading Crosby. Crosby alone is a huge revenue boost to almost every team in the league so other team ownerships would be pressuring their GMs for that trade.

Just think, Crosby to Colorado, two Cole Harbour Nova Scotia boys playing on the same team and on the power play with Makar. What about a playoff series with MacKinnon and Crosby vs McDavid and Draisaitl. Crosby is still an elite player who would have a tremendous impact on any team, it would be a shame to not see him in the playoffs for however many more years he chooses to play. I have always been a Bruins fan but i was pleased to see Ray Bourque win the cup in Colorado. While I have respect for Crosby's loyalty and unselfishness, the hockey fan in me would like to see him in the final rounds of the playoffs. The only potential gripe fans will have is that he played a huge role in making sure Malkin and Letang got their recent extensions, which have somewhat handcuffed the team and delayed hitting that reset button. Hextall may not have made the right moves anyway, but that was the summer to do it, and there were guys to be had like Trocheck that FA.

I find it interesting contrasting how the Pens & Caps decided to handle their aging rosters.
Pens decided to double down on trying to extend their window & traded a lot of their draft picks for what they perceived to be short term upgrades.
Conversely, the Caps held on to most of their draft picks to start re-stocking the pipeline.
When Crosby & Ovechkin retire, I think the Caps will be somewhat better positioned to become competitive again sooner than the Pens.

Thank you for your video. I've watched many of your videos over the last couple of years and enjoy your passion for hockey.
As for one of hockey's 🐐 Crosby playing for another team would be shocking!! But, let's look at something.....he was terribly upset Jake was traded, we know that! In the last 20 games of the season, he was the MVP, and they didn't make the playoffs. In this off-season, Dubas, like he said he would, made moves to rebuild the Pens draft pool. I was thrilled about what he's done ✔️ But those moves did not give Crosby a top winger, correct!? I believe also that Dubas has upgraded our bottom 6, which was so important, and that Karlsson now comfortable in Pens team & a healthy Letang our defense will better. Playoff bound....who knows. So, if Sid doesn't sign before training camp and the chance for a cup with his close friend in Colorado comes up why would he not want that chance! The Pens would, most likely, receive 2 first round picks + a 3rd & 4th or something. He would play another 3 after this year, whi h would be 4 years of an actual chance at a cup. Win/win. Thank and God bless you 🙏

We don't want to see him go by any means, but we'll cheer for him no matter where he goes. He owes nothing to the city and the organization after the successful career he's had over the past 20 years.
I can't see him not signing though. He and Malkin and Letang decided they wanted to finish their careers in Pit, and Crosby played a big part in them signing with the Penguins.
(But let's be honest, Crosby on this Montreal Canadiens team would be fire!)

I wouldn’t rule out booing, we booed Jagr, it was dumb, but that was because Jagr asked for a trade and said he was dying alive. Now the dying alive quote was out of context, but he did ask for a trade. The difference with Crosby is, he played a big part with Letang and Malkin resigning, which has not helped the Penguins. If he leaves, Penguins fans may see him as helping make the hole in the ship that turned it into a sinking ship.
Personally, it doesn’t bother me whatever he does, but I definitely think my fellow Penguins fans could see it the way I described, again, Jagr left under more understandable terms, the team couldn’t afford him anymore and he got booed, if Crosby were to not sign because he still wants to win and feels he can do so somewhere else, it’s going to hit like Marian Hossa in 2008 in Pittsburgh

Here's my thoughts on this, I don't think Crosby is going to leave the Pittsburgh Penguins for a couple of reasons.
    1. He's already won three Stanley cups with the potential to win more if he chooses to get a management position when he retires.
    2. He's established himself in Pittsburgh and he's been there so long that he may not want to acclimate himself to a new team coaches, system etc.

  • @TheKeeperofKeyss
    @TheKeeperofKeyss Месяц назад

He will re-sign with the Pens, no doubt in my mind. His superstion and not wanting change aspects aside, he has never wanted to play anywhere else. As many always point out his role models are Steve Yzerman and Mario, both being 1 team guys and I do think that means a lot to him. I think he signs a 3 year deal at $8.7 and if he wants to play beyond that he can just do 1 year deals like Pavelski had been doing. I think there are 2 reasons Crosby stays in Pittsburgh at least the next 4 seasons, the first being the sentimental reason of he wants to play out the rest of Malkin and Letang's careers and Geno's is done after next year and letang has 4 years left including this season. Crosby won't let letang play longer than him just to be sure since they were drafted the same year. The second reason, the one I think is the bigger of the two, is that Crosby is a competitor and there is very little that drives him more than doing what is said cant be done. Yes he could probably win another cup if he went to colorado maybe, though as much as I like the Avs they do have some holes to patch themselves in order to get back there. However, if he did it would not be Crosby leading them to a cup so much as it would be Mackinnon and Makar. No, Crosby would never truly be a supporting cast player but it won't and likely wouldnt be his team in anyone's eyes. No, I think the task that drives Crosby the remainder of his career is if he can be the guy to drag the pens back to a cup but also to be the guy that can usher the franchise into their next "window" as well. Lemieux got to do that between the 25 games he did play Sid's rookie year as well as his involvement from the owner side and letting Sid live with him. Crosby being able to help set up and even sweeter if he can deliver the penguins the next age. That is a challenge worthy of a guy like Crosby who has already been tested and won virtually everything else you could strive to win in hockey. Also, the added bonus of playing in one more olympics with Mackinnon will be a cherry on top.

Personally don't know why the organization is keeping Sullivan and not trying a new approach w a new style especially w the yr he had at 36 yrs old. Sullivan is probably starting this yr on a short leash, it will be interesting what happens in Pittsburgh. The question is, is Crosby mentally married to Pittsburgh and staying there no matter what or will something unfold where he will end his last few yrs w a team set to win. Mtl is gathering some nice chips, will he end his career there, making them an instant contender 🤔🤔
The Colorado speculation w Mckinnon is interesting and realistic, but I question if McK is staying in Colorado and thinking about a new chapter. Time will tell and is getting very interesting
As far as what Crosby decides is tuff. He cant really make a wrong decision anymore because he has the power to do what he wants if he signs or not. I predict there is going to be a coaching situation that will get adressed during the season that will make Crosby decide to stay or go.
