Thank you so much Alison I really really enjoyed watching you create those tags and papers for collaging later on. I absolutely love your creativity and you certainly inspire me to try this out. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have been reluctant spraying the Distress stains directly onto stencils, but watching your tutorial removed all the apprehension. I especially enjoyed the flip over with the stain, making the most of the inks and getting the contrasting backgrounds. Thank you Alison.
Since the sprays are so fluid, and water-reactive, you shouldn't have any problem cleaning them off... plus I have quite a lot of leftover paint on many of my stencils, and as long as it isn't clogging the spaces they all still work perfectly well. And with the flipping technique, you'll get rid of most of the spray just like that!! Hope you'll have a lovely time playing with the ideas here. Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.
Those were my favorites as well. Thank you for the message on where to see them being used. I’m on my way there next. I only found this channel about a week ago and I just adore it.

I’m so happy that I came across your channel today!! I didn’t realize until I saw some of your other videos that you are the creator of my absolute favorite stamp sets. I love your aesthetic and your work, and I too am a great lover of words. So of course I had to subscribe. 🙂 Spring has pretty much arrived here in California, USA, and I hope it arrives for you in Czech soon. 🌷🌷🌷🌷 “Is the spring coming?” he said. “what is it like?” “It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine.” ☀️ 🌧️ 🌈 The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
How lovely - so glad that you managed to join the dots and connect me to your favourite stamps - that makes me so happy to hear that you love them. (There's a new release coming up this Tuesday 27th February, so watch out for that!) Lovely quote from The Secret Garden, thank you. Enjoy your Californian spring - ours is definitely on the way, despite continuing heavy frosts. If you're interested you can see more of the Czech seasons on my secondary Instagram account @b0hem1anh0me... Have a lovely Sunday.
I’m so glad you came up in my suggested videos. I’ve been admiring your work on Instagram and Pinterest but somehow I haven’t transitioned to finding you on RUclips. I love your work and this beautiful reminder of how quick and simple sprayed backgrounds can be. Thanks for sharing. 🤗🇨🇦🤗

I enjoyed your video immensely. You are new to me and I'm so delighted to have found a creator such as yourself. If anyone has done this mixed media with stencils, I haven't seen it. I'm ecstatic about trying this myself. I haven't got any of these inks but rest be assured I will get a few so I can have some gorgeous background for my journal which by the way I haven't made yet because I'm a newbie to junk journals and creating any kind of paper craft. I've been into fabric and sewing and crafts yes but never this. Even though I'm 67 years young I thought maybe this isn't for me. However I can't stop viewing every channel with journal books and paint etc. I could go on so excuse me. Thank you dearly for a wonderful time especially for someone living alone. I love the company of You Tube. ❤❤❤❤😊🎨🖌️
Oh, what a lovely comment, thank you! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. I'm just starting to build the content here on the channel, so there's lots more coming this year... And yes, it's really not a complicated technique, just genuinely a few minutes of fun! You can do it with many kinds of sprays (there are lots out there on the market), but I do enjoy working with the Distress range, and they have lovely vintage colours as well as brights in the range. Do take the leap into paper-crafting - I've never regretted it for a moment and it's never to late to play! I'm pretty envious of your fabric crafts experience... sewing machines break when I sit down at them!!
Thank you so much... it's been on my to-do list for a long time, and typical that I'm arriving just as many long-time RUclipsrs are calling it a day!! Ah well... Happy you enjoyed it. And you won't have to wait long - the monthly Sunday Swatching is due tomorrow!!
Hello… saw your video in my suggested video options… it looked like something I would enjoy watching… loved the expression: A few minutes of fun… your video photo was intriguing and inviting… I thoroughly enjoyed the video and am encouraged to get out some of my favorite colors and have a few minutes of fun… Thank you so much! I’ll look forward to checking out some of your other videos and will subscribe. Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

I've really only just started to build content here on RUclips, so there's lots more to come this year. I hope you continue to enjoy the fun.
This looks like some yummy funness..😂 TFS . I sometimes love how the algorithms work and I’m sent more great channels to inspire me. I need to pull out my stencils.
So happy you enjoyed it... yes, it's always good to be reminded of techniques we might have forgotten about, or not used for a while. That's my aim with this series - nothing complicated, just genuinely a few minutes of fun! Thanks so much for stopping by and for commenting.
A great spray-stencil show Alison and inspiring too. Haha, birches in my head, it seems my brains tell me that on a spot on the left of your white paper (filmed in the end) looks like there are birches 😁
Looks like a grand ‘ole time, Alison. I have a blast when I play like this. First time seeing you. BTW, the lids sometimes end up in my mouth too! Have a great weekend. I’m in my art room just playing….
Sounds like the perfect way to spend the weekend... and yes, the whole point of this series is just to have some fun - nothing complicated, as you can see... So happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
That's so great to hear, Debbie, thank you. I've really only just started to build content here on RUclips (there's loads on Instagram and on my blog), so there will be plenty more to come this year. Thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing!
I love your background paper . I always put paper in my spray box...sometimes it's my favourite. . It's easy to forget to use these simple techniques. I love your colour combinations. It's summer here in Australia & still around 37°C at the moment. We have a newbie coming to our Friday art day , so last week we went waaaayyy back and used our old dylusions inks. It was a lot of fun. I began mixed media with a class at Snazzi scrappin' in Dubbo NSW in 2013. It's hard to believe it's 11yrs ago. The dylusions were so bright & I was hooked. However, 11yrs later I'm much more muted & grungy & TH in my colour palette. I will send her your video as it's simple & informative. ❤
Thanks so much for stopping by and for your great comment. Yes, it's good to revisit the simple stuff now and again... I started my blog and creative journey at a similar time (2012 - alisonbomber.blogspot.com) - it seems aeons ago, and so many techniques and products under the bridge since then! I've never gone for brights much (except as an occasional detour) apart from autumn leaves and/or rust and vivid turquoise and aqua. Nature tends to be in charge of my colour palette as the seasons change. Hope you get some fresh air and an autumn breeze soon.
I didn't last long on the brights. I really like secondary or tertiary colours that are just a bit 'off'. I've spent the afternoon copying(sort of) your tags using what I had in my stash. And also, using stencils & micro glaze as a resist It's been fun. I didn't realise I was missing so many colours of Tim's sprays, but I made do. I love the browns , blues & greens. Only just discovered I had a large pad of peeled paint (no mini) It's gorgeous. I wonder how it goes with crushed olive & or seedless preserves 😂❤
@@donnam5891 Sounds like a great colour combination - hope you've already tried it out by now! So happy to hear you've been having some playtime with these tag ideas. Love micro glaze + stencils...

So nice to meet someone from the Czech Republic!! I am wondering how it is that you speak such flawless English, if you care to share! I actually thought that you might have a slight British accent! I love your style of crafting! Thank you!
That would be because I am British! Well, I have dual nationality these days, Czech and British. My grandparents were Czech, but fled from here in the late 1930s... and now I have made a "return", but I have spent most of my life in the UK until moving here about three years ago. So happy that you are enjoying the crafting. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Hello! I adore what you did. It's always good to learn new things, and I find you inspiring! You just made yourself a new subscriber! TFS Greetings from Québec Canada ❤
How lovely - thank you so much! It's a very simple technique, but it gets you so many backgrounds so quickly. Nothing complicated, just genuinely a few minutes of fun!
These look fabulous - I never think to reverse mine!!! BTW, what did you use for the background on the one with stenciled numbers? The blue is beautiful and so smooth.
Thank you - happy to have added another possibility to your stencil sessions! The blue paper has been lying around for a while, so I can't be completely certain, but I'm pretty sure it's some PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Chalk Acrylic paints... maybe a mixture of Seaglass and Lake Wanaka, looking at it (both colours which are in my specially curated set of six Background Blues). Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
New to your channel and love it! These turned out beautifully. Question please....when you took the book page and said it was painted, what paint did you do and did you paint both sides? Thank you for your tutorial. Really enjoyed it.
Welcome - so happy you enjoyed it... the channel itself is really pretty new (at least me adding content regularly is new) so there's lots more to come this year. The book page only has paint on one side, and if I remember rightly I think it's a watery mix of two PaperArtsy Fresco Chalk Acrylic paints, Hey Pesto and Sea Glass. Just sloshed on very loosely with a cheap wide brush. I design stamps for PaperArtsy, so I have lots of their brilliant paints! (I even have some specially curated sets of PaperArtsy paints designed for botanical artwork.) Hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions.
I think these tags are amazing but what do you use them for ? and what do you put on the back because sometimes the backs of mine get all full of paint?
These are just backgrounds at the moment, so there will be some collaging to come. (In fact, there is already a follow-up video doing just that with two of these - ruclips.net/video/Bo2TIzAIL_w/видео.html ) After that, as far as "doing" anything with them... I'm not sure what you "do" with any piece of art. For me, the making is the doing. The state of flow I find in creativity, the learning that happens with each creation, the playfulness of exploration, the combining of colours and textures - those are the value for me. Many of my tags live in crates in my studio, for flicking through for inspiration or for pleasure (you can see what I mean in these Shorts - ruclips.net/video/EwkvmSSKvb4/видео.html ). Others come out for seasonal displays during the year. Those are often mounted on waste cardboard to give them more presence and durability, so whatever is on the back doesn't show if I do that. Sometimes I'll create a little tag book, or use a tag (either a background or a finished tag) as the basis for a journal page (you can see that kind of thing here ruclips.net/video/TYqLY1mSDsI/видео.html ) If they're glued in a journal, then what's on the back is irrelevant. If they're in a tag book, then they're often glued back to back. If I hang them off some twigs, then I might glue design paper or old book pages to the back. But overall, I don't really care what the back looks like!! Occasionally I'll use one as a card topper (hate making cards!), give one as a gift, or as a tag on a gift as an extra gift. Hope that answers your question? Happy you like them at any rate.
I didn't say... it's an A2 Portrait ENVIRO Spiral Bound Recycled Sketchbook - 170gsm from artway.co.uk ... I can't remember whether I ordered it from them directly or bought it elsewhere online. Hope that helps.
For the gypsophila gel-printing episode, and in fact for pretty much all my gel-printing, I just use cheap copy/printer paper. I like to pull loads of prints, so anything else would get expensive pretty quickly. It's playtime, experimentation. You can always mount the thin paper onto card if you need it to be stronger later. I've done that often if I use the prints to create accordion books... or I stick the prints into a journal or trim them onto tags. Or if I see something on the gel plate that I think deserves a better paper, I usually have some higher quality paper or card nearby which I can grab. Hope that helps.
These are the Ranger Distress Sprays and Oxide Sprays as mentioned in the information... They do clog occasionally - and rinsing the nozzle with warm water (holding the bottle upside-down) can sometimes help when that happens. To prevent it, it can help if you dab the spray nozzle with a cloth or paper towel after you spritz. I'm sure there are videos on YT about unclogging ink spray bottles!
No, the Ranger Distress Inks are neither lightfast nor archival. They are crafters' inks rather than artist quality, and they are water-based. Hope that helps.
@@denisestover2416 It's an ongoing process! I speak good German and decent French, and a smattering of other languages. Czech is by far the hardest I've tackled, but I'm getting there!

I'm so happy you're getting more videos up here Alison. These backgrounds are so easy yet so amazing! Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment - I'm so happy you were tempted to come and watch, delighted that you've subscribed, and best of all that you are inspired to go and play yourself!
So happy the algorithm brought you here, and that you found inspiration when you arrived. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
This WAS fun. Lovely results. I’ve done this before and must try again.
So happy you enjoyed it... yes, it's always good to be reminded of techniques we might have forgotten about, or not used for a while. That's my aim with this series - nothing complicated, just genuinely a few minutes of fun! Thanks so much for stopping by and for commenting.
Wonderful! Thank you!
Happy you enjoyed it - thanks so much for stopping by.
A great spray-stencil show Alison and inspiring too. Haha, birches in my head, it seems my brains tell me that on a spot on the left of your white paper (filmed in the end) looks like there are birches 😁
Ah yes, the birch obsession strikes again! Thank you so much for taking the time to drop by and leave a comment too.
I enjoyed this few minutes of fun. Thanks for sharing ❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by. I'm really happy you enjoyed it.
I meant to comment on the end results. The tags are absolutely beautiful. So much so I'd think about framing one. No kidding.
😊😊
Looks like a grand ‘ole time, Alison. I have a blast when I play like this. First time seeing you. BTW, the lids sometimes end up in my mouth too! Have a great weekend. I’m in my art room just playing….
Sounds like the perfect way to spend the weekend... and yes, the whole point of this series is just to have some fun - nothing complicated, as you can see... So happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
I just came across your videos and love them! What fun! And they all turn out to be so beautiful! I'll definitely subscribe and be back to watch more!
That's so great to hear, Debbie, thank you. I've really only just started to build content here on RUclips (there's loads on Instagram and on my blog), so there will be plenty more to come this year. Thanks so much for watching, commenting and subscribing!
Great demo
Thank you - nothing complicated as you can see, just genuinely a few minutes of fun.
Just found you , wow love what you do with inks
So happy you found me and are enjoying the videos. I've only just started to share content regularly here on RUclips, so there's plenty more to come this year. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

Just found your channel, love your content!
So happy to hear that - thank you for letting me know. I've only just started to build the content here regularly, so there's lots more to come this year.
Just found you, love your technique..
Thank you... happy you found your way here!

Happy you liked it - thanks for stopping by.

Beautiful tags and backgrounds. I am a new subscriber. ❤
Thank you so much - that's great to hear. I'm just starting to build content here, so there's lots more to come this year.
after learning for you in fodder school, love to see you on youtube.
Thank you so much for that - I'm just starting to build the content here, so there will be lots more to come!
I really loved your work, my favorite color palette and your are kind of same
These look fabulous - I never think to reverse mine!!!
(I even have some specially curated sets of PaperArtsy paints designed for botanical artwork.)
Hope that helps - let me know if you have any other questions.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Yay...looking forward to it!
Yes, very helpful. Thank you.@@w0rdsandp1ctures
Wonderful video! You are a fine and inspiring teacher! What size tags are you working with? Many thanks ❤
Thank you so much - what a nice comment! They're standard size 8 craft tags - so 16 x 8cm (6 and a bit x 3 and a bit inches!).
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Thank you! Looking forward to continuing to learn more from you!
I think these tags are amazing but what do you use them for ? and what do you put on the back because sometimes the backs of mine get all full of paint?
These are just backgrounds at the moment, so there will be some collaging to come. (In fact, there is already a follow-up video doing just that with two of these - ruclips.net/video/Bo2TIzAIL_w/видео.html )
After that, as far as "doing" anything with them...
Maybe I missed it but did you say where you got that GIANT sketchpad that you used a sheet from to catch the overspray? I want one!!! Thanks!!!
I didn't say... it's an A2 Portrait ENVIRO Spiral Bound Recycled Sketchbook - 170gsm from artway.co.uk ... I can't remember whether I ordered it from them directly or bought it elsewhere online. Hope that helps.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Thanks!!!! :)
How do you choose the paper you use for GELLI printing?
For the gypsophila gel-printing episode, and in fact for pretty much all my gel-printing, I just use cheap copy/printer paper. I like to pull loads of prints, so anything else would get expensive pretty quickly. It's playtime, experimentation. You can always mount the thin paper onto card if you need it to be stronger later. I've done that often if I use the prints to create accordion books... or I stick the prints into a journal or trim them onto tags. Or if I see something on the gel plate that I think deserves a better paper, I usually have some higher quality paper or card nearby which I can grab. Hope that helps.
What kind of spray bottle? The bottles I got seem to clog quickly. Any tips?
These are the Ranger Distress Sprays and Oxide Sprays as mentioned in the information... They do clog occasionally - and rinsing the nozzle with warm water (holding the bottle upside-down) can sometimes help when that happens. To prevent it, it can help if you dab the spray nozzle with a cloth or paper towel after you spritz. I'm sure there are videos on YT about unclogging ink spray bottles!
Are these ink sprays lightfast or archival?
No, the Ranger Distress Inks are neither lightfast nor archival. They are crafters' inks rather than artist quality, and they are water-based. Hope that helps.
What is the name brand of your stencils ?
All the ones used in this video are the Tim Holtz Collection Layering Stencils, made by Stampers Anonymous.
Hi😊 why are you in the Czech Republic?
I relocated here from the UK a few years ago. It's where my grandparents were from originally.
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Oh, that's neat! Do you speak the language?
@@denisestover2416 It's an ongoing process! I speak good German and decent French, and a smattering of other languages. Czech is by far the hardest I've tackled, but I'm getting there!
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Wow! Good luck with it. 🙂
