Couple of minutes into the workshop talk and you know it’s going to be good! 👍🏼 Old school wisdom, people who describe and work like that have my attention. Reminds me of my old engineering lecturers at college 👍🏼
Can we have Ray as a hack and bodge man. He is a legend and also can see his engineering skills
I've just built my own 2kw ebike too recently, uploaded a video to my channel
Ray’s workshop... new segment?
This is the best video EMBN has ever done we need more of this fantastic
Agree 100%, they should include more DIY bikes in the bike vault too.
Agree. Best EMBN video.
Are you watching the same thing I am!?!
yes! DIY is what stared ebikes
By far the best EMBN video!
Ray is a legend 👍
Dd
Motor: *spins at ~2revolutions/s*
Man: that's about 2rpm
~120rpm: *am I a joke to you?*
Enjoyed that, Ray clearly has wisdom and engineering talents that could be used to make great content for his own RUclips channel. Nicely paced explanations and presentation skills 👍
This guy will send us to Jupiter with a washing machine motor 🤟🤟🤟❤️
This is classic. Love this guy.
Rays a legend. More ray please.
This is filmed like a TV show.....
It-its...it's legendary
This was one of the best ideas and video series’ you’ve come up with on this channel. What a way to re-challenge what the industry is making a standard. Nothing beats experience and even though unconventional, it’s awesome seeing his mind solve this issue in such a creative and ‘engineered’ fashion. Cant wait for the next episode.
This was really cool!
Awesome love it!!!
Love it keep it up
Fantastic! Love these budget hacks!
I love watching engineers do there thing in the lab
Wow! Loved this content! The guy is awesome! Serious, talks clear, but also fun. And he really knows the stuff ! Love love love!
Good luck to you Ray. Your'e a great inspiration to all of us. I'm looking forward to seeing more from all of you.
Absolutely brilliant! 😀 Thanks for the great content guys! 😀
great video guys, thanks
What a great guy Ray is, totally brilliant.
Ray is a legend! I would love to see him in more videos.
Ray is awesome! More please!
Got over taken by a bloke like Ray yesterday on some home brew hybrid! Must have been doing 40 clicks haha
I was riding my emonda up a big hill the other day and some old dude passed me on some crazy contraption, looked just like that guy
Ray's design is interesting but my DIY build looks cleaner, does 40mph and has 85nm of torque. Of course I've got over $2k into mine, but it has a 30.5Ah battery.
@@pdxevgrin1688 ima do something like that but for £350 😂
Super!
Ray is a legend that more people need in their lives 👌🔥
We need to see more of this bloke on EMBN
What a great old chap..brilliant vid
Best video yet
Brilliant :)
Great video! It's a pity that I don't have dc motors and a CNC machine laying around, so no way I can build it from that budget... 😅
Brilliant .
Now that is a shed to aspire to!
I've done two myself so far....both for well under a grand $$ and using off the eBay shelf components. One is a tricycle for cargo and the other a nice little cruiser two wheeler. They have been very reliable and useable. I regularly ride to work and back.
And I agree about the big old thing you had at the very beginning. That is why I built my own. I can swap batteries amongst rideables and all the components are replaceable.. plus is they are fairly light weight and simple.
Saw this clicked Ray stated talking, hit subscribe. I could listen to him all day.
Ha ha! Ray's a star! Awesome
Awesome :-D
Yes Ray, doing bits!
Wow man your a legend.
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
thats amazing
I love this old man!
Wow this is amazing. Ray is like Christopher LIoyd from Back to the Future.
Wow, memories of my grandfather are awakening (RIP 25 years ago), who was also such an inventor 👍🏼
LOL
A brilliant article - but can you provide links to the products that Ray (the legend) used? Slightly biased pricing by not including the price of the battery.
Ray is a legend, he could do some great engineering explainer episodes.
Love old geezers sheds.... dan and Oliver, Cardiff
you forgot to link up part 2 where is it?
Ray's parts bins must be epic
Can we have more videos like this as many people enjoy this stuff
You can overvolt 24v motors to 36v no problem, they will just spin faster
Ray...! Is a badass
Some great acting 😂😂top work
I want to use that rotating axle test and sprockt and mount the body of wheel to frame. BSA guy like the chain drive rear. When my over volted 36v brushed motor cooks I hope to find a 48v 1000w motor I can mount this is a bit complex for me.
Someone partner with him to start a ebike company. Let’s make stuff in Great Britain
I kept thinking that's a heavy bike 🤣
No idea how i got here from GMBN and GMBN Tech but this is brilliant. No hate for Ebikes here, each to their own 😊
Ray for prime minister! He would get stuff done!
Need to get that patron set up..
He is great 👍
Hi mate you are true British genius
I want to see more of it use, that’s awesome!
Rays a natural look forward to more
Where did you get the motor from??
didn't know it was bring grandpa to work day. :)
I'd love to challenge this to a top end and distance challenge same £200 budget lots of us take part, legality of the rides are questionable but I'm Welsh and love a challenge.
Fist thing I thought was wow thats a great commentator voice
I made a DIY scrap built ebike everything all together only cost me £133.
Including bike & Battery Park.
I used a Giant jump bike 26 inch wheels.
I'm No engineer but the E-bike I made is more advanced and has more options.
Looks more reliable
No problems at all.
I don't have any special tools can't afford them.
Most of my tools are homemade.
The e-bike Top speed 40 mph and
Powerful acceleration.
Big battery pack 14s 8p about 22 amps.
It's a Mid drive system
Freewheel crank so you can ride like normal with no resistance.
1000w to 1500w 48v controller.
It has throttle key ignition voltage display &
9-speed gears & pedal assist.
Power cutoff brake levers &
Front and back disc brakes &
USB charger for phone built inside a phone holder.
The wires and power wire is hidden inside the frame
So it looks clean and tidy
I never thought I was good at building stuff until I came on RUclips LOL
Not much to compare to really.
Just like me not everybody puts their builds on online & RUclips.
I think soon I'm going to put my build on RUclips so people can see.
At the minute I'm building another E-bike but much more powerful.
kids watch this if you have a grandpa like that , you will have your best childhood.
link for part two ?
I agree with Ray. I wouldn't pay for an ebike that only goes 15mph either. My DIY build will go almost 40mph but I'm rarely above 30 and always above 15 haha.
🙏
from what is that motor ??
How much would the Cnc work cost
intense
I refer to projects I make with leftover pieces as "scraptacular".
"No drag" That's how ALL e-bikes should be built.
Wait until you see Ray in his denim shorts absolute legend
Steady stackario x part 2 might have my old Ben Sherman lol
Ray looks as dark as me 😊🤣😆my brother Ray infact my brother is called Raymond 👍🏾
What kind of motor is that?
Every young lad dream granddad to have.
can buy a ready made 26'' rear wheel with legal 250w hub motor all electronics for about £175
Were m8
Just built a ebike from a 4mph mobility scooter put into a tool box running a double reduced 18t 46t x2 welded to a rack sitting here thinking if I dare test it 😂✌️
Yep destroyed my rack at 25mph time to rebuild stronger 😂✌️
Hi so do I more of it✌
As engaging and informative this is, I don't see what holds all the toque at the spider to freewheel connection. He skips to a finished model at 9:25 minutes into it. It's simple to mount a gear to the spokes but to include the "coast" feature of the freewheel, all motor torque has to be transferred through the freewheel hub somehow. Is it welded? Did I miss something here? Very curious.
I think I saw where the spider flange got welded to the freewheel hub. This was fun to watch again.. Brilliant job Sir.
The man's a genius, you can [imagine him and Nicola Tesla being best friends.
Building the cheapest DIY E-Bike Possible swiftly became Building the Most Complicated DIY E-Bike Possible... 🤔Geeezuz Christ... 🤣
Love the concept but its not exactly under £200 is it..... How much did he pay for his CNC machine and how much were all the parts that he already had?
Regardless, really enjoyed it, can't wait to see the next episode.
China are starting to make some very good ebikes now at very good prices. Check out fray AM 1000 ebike mid drive
2500 quid just check thats alot m8
Ray is great, he needs his own channel.
BUT.............. That's not £200, the CNC machine is a lot more than that by itself. This is like all those other RUclips videos about making things cheep yourself, where they forget the thousands of pounds worth of tools you need.
It's also an e-moped, rather than an e-bike.
Other than that, bring on more of this stuff, and more Ray.
just ask your local engineering workshop to knock one up, you would be surprised how cheap they will do stuff like this, normally for beer money
Local Fab Lab (when they reopen) will probably have the tools to let you build your own.
Ray is a Legend. 5k 😂 He’s not wrong. Cycling is all about £60k VW Transporters and keeping up the Latest tech in bikes @ 5k+. Hehheehe.
Maybe 2 RPM! Maybe just because we aren't used to saying RPS.
Love it, but.... £200. Providing you already have the motor, belts, battery and bloody CNC machine and workshop.. lol
where can I buy that motor? ...I searched over half an hour and found nothing
I paid $600 for mine on eBay and it goes 20 miles an hour but I'm going to save up for a 1500 watt conversion kit on eBay mine is 350 w by the way now they're a little over $600 and it folds it is a mountain bike
You should have built the motor into the front wheel.....like it is on my EBCO electric bike.
I don't why you'd go to all this trouble when you can buy a conversion kit with a 750W motor that is mounted in a wheel, a speed sensor, a throttle, a motor controller, a display/interface, and often a lighting kit, for $160US. And it doesn't mess up the existing chain gearing to the pedals.
Maybe it was just a fun project.
A 200 quid bike? Really? Maybe if you have some electric motors laying around. A couple of CNC machines in the back shed and some handy drive pulleys, belts and other paraphernalia on hand. If all these materials had to be purchased and the machining paid for it would cost considerably more than 200 quid. Great story though. Shows what can be done with some backyard engineering and knowledge.
Don't forget a lifetime in engineering 😁
