- In this Clip, I worked on a Ficus material and find there is a need to improve taper on Both Trunk and First Branch, the solution I made is to graft roots from Branch to Trunk so it can start on its way to correct taper. Playlist Title: Bonsai Diary Medium Ficus Retusa

Thanks for sharing interesting technique. Please guide that how much time a three inches thick cutting would take to get roots and to see some growth on stem.

Nice idea ..
+Vijay saini thanks
ab pata chala aap ka guru kaun hai... :)
l would love to see an updated video on this tree. how are the roots doing? Did the graph Take hold. How is this tree doing? l loved this video thanks for posting.
sorry the root transfer did not hold as it was wet most of the time.
Which glue r u using Sir? U r an awesome expert.
The grafted ficus bonsai @ Walmart have big cracks from where the branches where grafted on & big stumps where the old main branch was cut off. If I buy one, do I have to worry about fungus making those spots rot?? (I don't even care about the scars in the bark being "ugly" - I just worry about the tree getting fungus & maybe even dying - where I live in Gainesville, FL there seems to be a lot of fungus.)
apply fungicide. there are cut paste which have anti fungal medication, but those are use for new cuts. I don't know.
Where can I find that cut paste?
bonsai or agri supply. in Philippines, try "Harbest". otherwise just use "Elmer's glue.
wondering about this tree now. how is it?
Sir kindly post another video of this showing the progress pls.
+Roline Julaton Yes I did on this post but it was not successful maybe because the ties were too tight.
thanks for such a informative video...sir how can u you guide me with my own plant where I am trying to give it a bonsai look....I mean where I can send you the videos or photos and take suggestion for purning, cutting and etc.....I have ficus for 6yrs and few days later I tried to give it a bonsai look, after getting inspired by ur videos..but I am not satisfied...can u guide me.
sorry I cannot do specifc tutorial as it is too taxing, also now very limited because of health reasons.
Is it possible to grow aerial roots on a blue spruce bonsai?
+Shadow_239 I don't think so, but I have no experience with Spruce so I am not in a position to give you accurate answer. that is just my opinion. My experience with aerial roots are only on Ficuses. all ficuses grow aerial roots.
+Bonsai Iligan ok. Thank you. I love your channel
boss idol pila man ka months bago natin kuhaon katong wire sa trunks ug branch.
Hello Iliganbonsai, sorry inglés, How much especies of ficus retusa there in your country please ? I love your videos?
sorry I don't know.
Is it possible to use colloidal silver as sort of a hormone to enhance healing wound to a skitted bark?
Sorry I don't know and never heard it being use. but the main feature of a cut paste is its anti fungal property as well as sealing moisture loss.
What is the rigth glue to use? Does a melted crayon or candle make a good cover for the transferred root?
yeah it can be a substitute. I usually seal cuts in branches but not roots as they are buried in soil although for some specie sensitive to fungus I apply.
yes even for transferred roots.
Do you have to cover something to expose part after removing selected bark?
When removing barks for air layering or ground layering, yes I always cover them as our goal is to encourage root growth. But if your goal is to create dead wood (Shari) then no need to cover them. they would even look better as they harden off with time.
How old is this tree? Do aerial roots typically begin growing off the tree at a certain age?
5 years approximately. Aerial roots do grow when the trees are old say 4 to 6 years old but there are environmental climate/ condition it requires like a moist environment and a lot of sun.
does any time of bonsai needs regular repotting
yes, sooner the roots will out grow your pot, you need to prune them off or transfer in larger pot. when you prune roots you need to prune foliage as well to keep the energy balance, then keep in shade till stabilize.

was it sucesfull? Did bouth roots retain?
+BozskaCastica I haven't open the plastic yet as of today Sept 20, 2015, but I think they are successful cause the branches are growing well. I should make a video when I will open it.
+Bonsai Iligan Yes please! Im still waiting for that video!
its November today, the graft was not succesful, sorry got to try again. maybe I tied it to tightly.
Oh well. Im sorry about that. Still, all your videos have greatly helped me. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world,
