  • Ford and GM are having a rough start to 2024. Overpriced trucks and suv's are just sitting on lots and not selling. Ford & GM are in big trouble and their CEO's seem to be in complete denial that anything is actually going wrong with the brands.

And when you add it up , when you charge an EV your still not getting the range that you get with ICE vehicle , and an ICE vehicle fill to capacity in 5 minutes, and to add even more insult to injury with the EV , the range you have the day you purchased it , every single charge you do , a little bit of that very expensive battery dies.
Basically EVs have built in obsolescence, EVs are shit.

Turns out this 60 yr old with no engineering experience but 50 years of LIFE experience knows better than all the engineers and fanboys combined.
Same as when they talked about towing and range. if you have 300 miles of range and the vehicle alone weighs 7000 lbs, if you pull a 5000 lbs vehicle at the MIN your range will be reduced by 50% just from weight alone not including wind resistance. "no no no" the fanboys said...until Hoovie proved it. For every mile he drove with an empty car hauler he lost over 2 miles of range. That was on level ground too NOT going up hills.

The issue is that GM and Ford try to pad their profits by adding tens of thousands of options and packages and trims on a basic truck, when all the average person wants is a basic base model truck that's not QUITE rental poverty spec. You know, add in all the safety options and maybe a screen that connects to your phone, plus a few colors other than shades of depression.

I drive a 2023 Ford e-transit van for work. (That's 100% an EV). I haven't yet managed to overload it. They understood the weight issues with batteries and adjusted accordingly. Meanwhile, the power train weight is lighter, so there is that. The vehicle is leased, so we won't be fronting the cost of replacing batteries. The torque is awesome, btw.
Don't misunderstand: the e-transit has lots of _Ford issues_ -- stupid little things that were better designed in my 2007 Chrysler Town & Country -- but I can live with those issues.

@TheRealScooterGuy interesting. What's also interesting is that I wasn't even aware that this van existed.
It sounds well matched to is application (relatively short trips where you can plug it in at the shop and run it for cheap without ever going to a charging station, or, obviously, a gas station).
The Lightning seems least ready for prime time, especially as a general purpose pickup, yet it received the most hype.

I was in the market for 2 new cars. The first car I was looking at was a 2 door Jeep Rubicon and the dealers wanted $56k for the options I wanted with a mark up of course, so I decided to by a new 1 year old Honda Ridgeline fully loaded for 40k instead. Jeeps are another ridiculously priced brand. The second car was going to be a gas saver and I looked at a 2023 Toyota Prius and again the dealer wanted over 40k with a mark up, so I decided to get the Tesla Model Y and with the tax credit it came in at the same price as the Prius. I couldn’t be happier with the purchase plus the fact that Tesla doesn’t do dealer markups. The pricing is all up front and very nice for the customer. It was the best buying experience by a long shot. I drove it to Miami from SC and it was a great trip and what I noticed is that by the time I needed to stop to charge I was ready to get out of the car to rest, eat or use the bathroom.

NO, not at all, that only applies to EVs. Are you recommended to fill your gas tank to 80% to prolong engine life? NO, that only applies to EVs. Does your range diminish with time? NO, that only applies to EVs. Do you get recharging anxiety with an ice car? NO, that only applies to EVs, an ice car will refuel in minutes. Are there a shortage of gas stations. NO, that only applies to EV charging stations. Does extreme heat or cold affect an ice car's range and performance? NO, that only applies to EVs. Will my ice car depreciate faster than a stone in the ocean? NO, that only applies to EVs. Will I worry about range and charging anxiety if I rent a car? NO, car rental companies are dumping their plans to adopt EVs and are re-investing in ice cars. If I'm lucky enough to be one of the people who can charge at home, do I need to install an expensive charging unit to charge my ice car? NO, that only applies to EVs, I can fuel up at the gas station down the street in 5 minutes. Will my insurance rates skyrocket on my ice car? NO, that only applies to EVs. ( my current ice car's insurance is about $750 a year ) Will my ice car's expensive battery pack be damaged in an accident or just wear out with time and need replacement? NO that only applies to EVs, ice cars don't need troublesome battery packs. Does my ice car rely on china for a battery pack? NO, that only applies to EVs. Will my ice car spontaneously combust with furious thermal runaway for no particular reason? NO, that only applies to EVs. I keep on looking for the alleged compromises in ice cars but they just don't seem to be there. There is no LOL in the real world.

⬇️ Please give thoughts on this:
A lot are condemning Ford for utilizing their iconic Mustang brand for the Mach-E. Remember, after GM dropped Camaro, Chrysler dropped Challenger, and the 2025 Ram dropped the V8. Ford is still committed to refining the 5.0L V8 in the new redesigned 2024 Mustang and F-150.
Though they're unwilling to abandon true V8 and Mustang fans, Ford smartly knew that a burning economy car entry into EVs would have no chance. So they went all in on making the Mustang Mach-E and, understanding the stakes with Mustang fans, knew it had to perform impressively to EARN the name. That's why it win SUV of the year when released, beating Tesla. If you haven't driven the Mach-E GT Performance trim, you won't see how seriously they took its development. I've driven dozens of Mustang GTs of various configurations. The EV is obviously different, but it's legitimately the most fun I've ever had behind a wheel-- it's literally like another dimension of fast, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is condemning it without any true first-hand experience.
Again, unlike others, Ford has always provided more choice, just like they've always done with their 3.3V6, 2.7V6e-boost, 5.0V8, 3.5V6e-boost, 3.0diesel, + two Raptor Engines. Choice is good, not bad.
The US Gov't betrayed the people AND Ford, your last purely US automanufacturer (GMC is married to China and Stellantis is self-explanatory), by inflating our cost of living with Gas-Tax, EV-Incentives, and imposing unreasonable Mandatory EV vs ICE Sale Ratio Deadlines, existentially forcing them to over-extend in EVs development before they were ready, at the that off destroying their companies.
At least give Ford credit for recognizing the fμkup, being the only US company on the planet to address it with honesty, begin correcting it, and no push back against the gov't for their evil conduct, instead of gaslighting us like the rest. They tried to be fiscally responsible in the shadow of a corrupt gov't.
Don't abandon your last man standing. You're only truly grass-roots American choice left is Ford (A case can kinda be made for Tesla). But, if you want to see the V8 survive and thrive in the future, support Ford.
Am I a shill for Ford? I don't think so. But before I condemn anybody, I like to ensure I'm doing so from a principled stance. But, considering the context, Ford deserves criticism not condemnation. And they've been criticizing their own recent decisions humbly, openly, honestly, and publicly, which shows the kind of integrity I wish other companies would adopt.
Agree? Disagree? Am I off base-- or is there any part of this where we're on the same page? I'll really appreciate anyone who shares your thoughts. Thanks folks!

I can give you another reason EVs are not selling: Solar. We have a 18kw solar system and in the summer, we have power to spare. But in the winter we are on the grid a lot. This is w/o an EV. So if we expect to charge an EV during the winter, it's not happening off our solar, we'll have to use the grid to charge it. I think a lot of people thought "Well I have solar so it'll be free to charge the EV." In reality, that is not happening. You have to be very careful about how you use electricity and an EV is just another load you need to manage.

Nobody is forcing you to buy an EV. There is a credit for buying one. There is also a credit for having kids, is the government forcing you to have kids? People buying an EV reduce demand for the gas you are buying, lowering the price and giving options to more people if there was a real supply disruption. EVs are the only vehicles where you can make your own “fuel” with solar and be independent of gas prices. If you have garage or parking spot with electricity you fuel up every night while you sleep and never spend any time waiting on charging (unless you go on a several hundred mile trip and need to DC fast charge), which for most people is only a few times a month. Have you even driven one? The performance makes ICE vehicles look like they are from an entirely different era. If you want a bargain EV buy a Model Y, they are $35k (after point of sale tax credit), if you want a bargain truck buy the Lightning Pro, $45k. The Lightning has a front trunk, does 60 in 4.5 seconds, tows 10k lbs, and has 240v 30a power that can power your house or RV for days. Lots of things an ICE truck can’t do, and not for $45k. Just test drive one.

The truth is that the world is embracing EV. The sector is growing exponentially. The best selling vehicle in the world is the Tesla Model Y. People don’t want the costly, poor performing pure electric vehicles Detroit is offering up. US consumers don’t want EVs, they want a Tesla. Ford, GM, Toyota, etc are the next Kodaks. This video won’t age well. RIP 🪦

When you drive by a gasoline station with 0.00 you know it’s down go to the next one. EV on the other says out of service in small print, not bad but you only left yourself to drive to one more station hoping this isn’t out of service or there isn’t 6 cars ahead of you! Don’t worry the government has your back they will subsidize you for your time while you wait right? Not a chance

I would actually love an f150 lightning. The truck is awesome. I would just need it to cost about half of what it does. I really think the problem isn't the demand, I think it's the cost. I'm not spending 50 grand on any vehicle at all, gas, hybrid or electric.

What people want are cars that are less than $25k... Or even better under $20k.
My region has a LOT of people driving those Mitsubishi Mirages because that's the only vehicle that locals can afford

The local ford dealer (Chicago area) will not take any EV in on trade. They have 6 used EV that have been sitting there for a year. Nobody wants them. And my son is a salesman for Mercedes Benz & he was also told he can’t take in any EV on trade. Whennwenhadnthr polar vortex here last month & temps went down to -35 and all but TWO public Tesla chargers were frozen & there were dead teslas EVERYWHERE!

Years ago when they first came out with EV vehicles I test drove the Chevy Volt. I felt the heaviness of the vehicle as we accelerated onto the freeway. Felt like I was driving a Sherman Tank and I knew this was not for me. Just didn't feel right.

I'd love an EV truck/SUV, but the only reason I'm not getting one is because of the price. Here's a shocker - I'd also love a regular ol' fashioned gas truck/SUV, but I'm not getting one of those either for the exact same reason: the price. Once those become affordable (for both), then the real "what do consumers want" conversation can begin, but while both are ridiculously priced, you'll never get a square answer. People will get what they can afford when in need (even if it means I stay in my crappy Equinox for another year or two).

If I get an EV it will be something like an Aptera. It's a hyper mile vehicle with a focus on commuting and solar recharge. I'll keep the truck at home for weekend trips.

While you make great points about the impracticality of EVs, I disagree with this notion that it’s being shoved down our throat. We have the choice to not buy them and buy a combustion car, which most of us still are. No harm no foul to me.

its crazy that they are trying to force the change. they didn't do that with the car when it came out. people just eventually decided to make the switch, it took a long time to make the full transition, and heck, there are still come people that haven't, like the amish.

After experiencing what my neighbor has gone through with their 2022 Ford Mach E, and Ford Lightning, no thanks, EVER! Not only did they pay a premium on both vehicles, their fault for falling for this debacle, they cannot get rid of them. The truck is useless, $110,000.00, and the Mach E is unreliable to drive any further than 100 miles round trip. My Dentist bought a KIA EV6 for $10,000.00 over MSRP plus another $1,500.00 in worthless add-ons, flat satan paint not holding up well, and he is forever upside down on that car. That said, he told me it is reliable but he has to be careful where he goes with the car because of the charging problems in California. He spent a lot of money adding a charging unit to his home, but he drives over the mountain from his home to his office.

The question is what are they gonna do with all of these if they cant sell them? Sorry but the companies deserve this. They could have been more vocal against this. If they have financial issues I wont feel sorry for them.😊

Thanks for sharing this info. I believe these vehicles are way too expensive. Whenever you get a chance if you can do a video on the Toyota Tundra. I would like to see if the dealership in your area is offering any discounts. 10% to 15% off the MSRP.
