I learned so much about cutting and using rulers. Thank you for explaining everything so well. I also benefited from your great tips on ironing. So excited to be part of this group!
Stacey, thanks so much! As a classroom teacher, I can say that you are an excellent instructor! As a new quilter, I learned so much from this video and will now have more confidence when cutting my beautiful fabrics. I like that you include safety tips, repeat the steps each time, and use a calm, encouraging voice. We are lucky to h❤ave access to you here on RUclips!

Stacey, thank you so very much for your time in preparation and demonstration. Everything that you share is helpful, including about when our rotary blades need replacing. It is always a consternation for me because of the expense of the blades -- wondering if I am changing them too soon, or not often enough. I am looking forward to these next weeks of quilt prepping and making. Have been looking forward to today. Thank you!😊 It is about 11:15 a.m. MST

I just found your channel & am so glad. I have struggled with using the rotary cutter. Your teaching is so understandable and your camera set up and vocals are so clear. Thank you!
This isn’t my first time cutting fabric, but I found that this information was still very useful. I’m pretty new at quilting, so a little recap is always welcome.
Hi Stacey. I've just found your channel. You're a wonderful teacher! I've been watching this class and I'm learning so much. I'm excited to finally make a quilt!
I have been thinking about it, and I guess you just do everything on the opposite side of what I am showing you. But you need to make sure your rotary blade is on the right hand side, so when you are holding it on the left, it is right up against the ruler. I know my rotary cutter can have the blade on either side.
Hi Annamarie, it's quite normal for your fabric not to be cut straight, so always start with your fold line towards you and start by cutting a new straight line.
Oh no Linda. Do you know at what point it goes wrong for you? If it's the ruler moving you can put weights on it. There are also Stripology rules that people swear by to help, they are expensive though.
At least half of these fat quarters measure just over 17 inches. There is no way to get four 9 inch squares out of them. So, do I cut my squares 8 1/2 inches or go buy more fat quarters?
I found a really cute solution! I sewed contrasting fabric, the off cuts from the 9 inch blocks, onto the side and then cut The Who,e thing back to 9 inches.

Thanks so much Margaret, I'm so glad it helped you :)
I like the folding method to cut. It’s helped me with my cutting a more square piece.
That's great! ❤

Move your hand along the ruler as you cut! Genious!
Genius. Haha!
It really helps, to stop the ruler sliding around :)
Thank you for explaining this so detailed!! ❤️
Thank you, it's a fine line, between being detailed, and confusing everyone - haha!
I had a rotary cutter and was leery of using it. Your straight forward instruction removes the guess work.
That's great you feel more confident to use it ❤

Love your tutorials, is there a way to have the mic closer to you? It is hard to hear even with volume up.
Hi Teresa, sorry about that, it plays very loud on my laptop and tv, but I can try making it louder when I create the videos :)
I’m going to try this…
Awesome Linda ❤️
Do you have any tips or advice for cutting fabric with rotary cutter for left-handlers?
I have been thinking about it, and I guess you just do everything on the opposite side of what I am showing you. But you need to make sure your rotary blade is on the right hand side, so when you are holding it on the left, it is right up against the ruler. @@staceyleecreative Thank you.
What is the size of your mat?
Hi Latoya, it's the largest Olfa mat 36" x 24". You can get a great deal on them when Joann have their 60% coupon 😊
with the salvage on top, my side of material has not been cut straight. do i just cut that first?
Hi Annamarie, it's quite normal for your fabric not to be cut straight, so always start with your fold line towards you and start by cutting a new straight line.
No matter hat I do I can’t seem to get a straight line.
Oh no Linda. Do you know at what point it goes wrong for you? If it's the ruler moving you can put weights on it. There are also Stripology rules that people swear by to help, they are expensive though.

Yes the easiest thing to do is to cut them all down to the smallest size.
