I'm so glad you picked up Almodovar! Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is one of my favorites. And I totally agree with you, we need more Almodovar in the Criterion Collection.
First video I've seen of yours. I picked up The Princess Bride 4K, Heroic Trio/Executioners 4K, Perfect Days 4K, The Red Shoes 4K, Destry Rides Again, Crash and Until the End of the World.
@@travisspazz1624 My library had it and it was a great watch. I’ll pick it up in a year or two when they’re back in stock and I’m in the mood. I did pick up Anselm today though. With my rewards it was ten bucks.
Yeah my friend got 4 exchanges for Trainspotting 4k, all came damaged except the last from Amazon, Amazon let him keep 2 of the slightly damaged ones and gave me a copy. The packaging is just terrible I agree, I’m all about the plastic cases.
I actually saw To Die For back in theaters . I remember before it was released the studio thought it was a bomb. The Others is definitely a classic horror cinema. Some nice pick ups.
I kept missing my chance to watch Silence of the Lambs. I only first watched it a few years ago. I wasn’t expecting such a wide range of emotions from that movie. I straight up cried when Clarice and Lecter are talking about the lamb incident.
Great video! I’ve been meaning to check out Fat Girl but I need to be in the right mood to watch it. If you like Andrew Haigh’s other films then you should really check out Lean on Pete. It’s not in the criterion but it’s his best movie. And if you liked A Special Day, there are some great Scola hidden gems out there, The Family and We Loved Each Other So Much are really good. And To Die For is great! Way better than Nightcrawler. I think it’s Kidman’s best performance, Joaquin Phoenix is also great in it.
Even though they've already released a number of his films I've been wanting Criterion to put out an Almodóvar boxset. So far in the sale I bought Dogfight and La Cérémonie from the store; ordered the Varda set, La Cage Aux Folles, and The Damned online; and there's still a few I'm contemplating getting: 45 Years, Hopscotch, Mr. Klein. To Die For and Bound were on my list of titles to get for sure but they're currently out of stock online and not available at my nearby stores. Dogfight was my 3rd 'for sure' title- it's my favorite River Phoenix film; though, I think My Own Private Idaho is his best performance. I got La Cérémonie because I've been going through my Claude Chabrol boxsets from Arrow and am really liking the films. I had been taking my time with them but Betty (1992) was my favorite movie that I watched for the first time last year, which is in the Lies & Deceit set. Last month was my birthday and on the day I watched Cléo From 5 to 7 for the first time. I really liked it and loved Le Bonheur when I saw that years ago. It's feeling like the right time for the Varda set. La Cage Aux Folles is a blind buy, though I've seen the American remake. And I got The Damned because I recently watched The Night Porter, which made me think of The Damned, which I watched on The Criterion Channel a few years ago before it was announced in the Collection. In May, I watched the tv production of the 1993 Cabaret revival, so I guess stories dealing with fascism is something I've been exploring this late spring/early summer. (I have A Special Day, so I'll have to watch that soon, too.) Speaking of musicals- the way you were talking about Pinocchio and father/child relationships resonating with you made me think of Into The Woods, which I recommend watching! NOT the 2014 film adaptation but the original musical production. Even though the show is about parenting and children and growing up, the 2014 movie takes out certain parts that literally undermine those themes and messages, including part of a father/son relationship. The proshot of the original Broadway cast is actually available to watch on youtube. There are a few uploads of it. From what I've seen in your stacks there, my personal favs are The Silence of the Lambs, Fat Girl, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, and To Die For.
Glad you are getting your collection back. Please let us all know next time you run into money trouble BEFORE you blow away your collection next time HAHAHA
I always look forward to a new The Bill Griff video! Awesome haul and video my friend 🎉 also, wtf is up with them massively overstocking last picture show and other titles? Are they high?
I’m always blessed to have a kino friend like you in my life. Ikr it’s like they prepped for all the Cybill Shepherd stans that might swarm the location!
Perfect Days, Pasolini 101, Salo: 120 Days Of Sodom, Three Colors Trilogy, Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid and Black God White Devil are the movies that I got so far. Waiting for Che and Harakiri. Still looking to some new movies to my collection.
My haul this year: The Essential Fellini collection The Essential Jacques Demi collection The Complete Jacques Tati collection Three Films By Luis Buñel collection The Trilogy Of Life collection Salo, Or 120 Days Of Sodom Smooth Talk Blow-Up Belle de Jours Also got the OOP Truffaut's Antoine Doinel Collection and Withnail & I
I own most all the criterion releases pre 1960s. It’s always funny how I’m not at all in touch with modern film people. Leo McCarey is one of the best. You’re in for a good time.
Hey, bill, awesome video as always ! I just got the House criterion and wanted to ask you which one I should get next since you’re basically the criterion master (right now I have Barry Lyndon, Night of the Living Dead, Dazed and Confused, In the Mood for Love, and the Royal Tennenbaums.)
I went into B&N to check the criterions out the other day and I also had an employee watching me like a hawk. He kept on pacing and asked me if I was finding everything okay several times. I’m thinking “did I forget to shower today or something? Did I wear my ‘I’m going to steal something’ badge?” It was so annoying. I walked up to him and said “I’m just checking out the criterion sale if you’re wondering.” I’ve never seen someone get so red in the face. Lol he was just all “oh yeah there’s a lot of good stuff” and sort of shuffled away back where B&N employees go when they’re not wanted. Lmao
My Barnes and Noble only had Pinocchio on Blu-ray, but they did have my Fear and Loathing 4K. My Barnes and Noble doesnt have a Criterion Section, so I have to go to a far one
We are "The Griffters". I refuse to support Criterion until they release Night Swim. A Matter of Life and Death is one of my favorites. I bought Peeping Tom so far, going back Saturday. I absolutely loathed Jellyfish Eyes. Again, we are "The Griffters".
Last year B&N made the decision to choose 12 store locations in the states to stock up on every criterion in it’s collection. Thankfully, I have a family member that lives near one of the locations so every sale I manage to try and visit it. I know it sucks that they downsized 90% of B&N. All the locations in my area suffered greatly from that.
Even as an American it’s a shocking view when you see it in person. It’s like going into a video store that time forgot. A lot of B&N stores have big music sections too with CDs and vinyl.
the trainspotting 4k packaging is the worst decision criterion every made. i got the blu-ray lol
No wonder why I can’t find anything I’m looking for they sent all of it to your store.
I'm so glad you picked up Almodovar! Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown is one of my favorites. And I totally agree with you, we need more Almodovar in the Criterion Collection.
Viva Pedro!
@@BillGriff1I have never seen a store so big. Where is that place you went to?😮😮
I Married a Witch is a gem of a film. I rewatched it a few months ago and enjoyed more than I did the first time I watched it.
100% agree about Almodóvar! More please! Also LOVED Perfect Days!
First video I've seen of yours. I picked up The Princess Bride 4K, Heroic Trio/Executioners 4K, Perfect Days 4K, The Red Shoes 4K, Destry Rides Again, Crash and Until the End of the World.
That fucking store!
My local store has been decimated.
@@donsimpsonshead8809Same. So jealous of his B&N! Not a single copy of Perfect Days.

The slowmo on Jellyfish Eyes IS essential viewing.

I've simped for the funeral crane shot in Soy Cuba consistently since seeing it. I love the use of the Infrared Camera too
What a stocked store! I got Perfect Days, Tie Me Up/Down, Trainspotting (blu ray), Secret Sunshine, Bound and Blood Simple 😀
I kept missing my chance to watch Silence of the Lambs. I only first watched it a few years ago. I wasn’t expecting such a wide range of emotions from that movie. I straight up cried when Clarice and Lecter are talking about the lamb incident.
Sweet haul Bill! Team Griffindor is proud! 😆 Make Way for Tomorrow is fantastic a 10/10 like Tokyo Story. Take care.
I can’t wait to see it, thank you FV!
Nice haul! Being There is an excellent pick!

A Special Day - “pre World War 2 in 1938…” Ahhh anyone wanna tell him.
Hopefully they dont start realeaseing movies in that HORRIBLE train spotting case
