Hello... sure in short, anything that goes into production pipeline requires some topology knowledge. Anything that is meant to be a single image and nothing more, all methods are fine. Even the ones without the topology understanding.

if you want to make the opposite from smooth edges to hard edges your shape change also nice tutorial
