Next video comes out Saturday! Playing catch up on my edits. You guys should see what the CH looks like now!
Hey Devon, little tip. When shortening your bird blocks so they don't extend above rafters, cut them an extra 1/2" shorter and you will leave an air gap there so there's no need for drilling ventilation holes.
Devon, you determination is legendary. I'm impressed that you did all of this work yourself!
I can't afford to pay someone, so just doing it myself 🤷🏼♂️
3:20 that is a “bird’s mouth notch.”
You never cease to amaze me with how much you're able to accomplish essentially on a weekend warrior schedule. Regarding your concerns with soaking your boards and other details, I recommend Huber's Advantech floor sheathing as it can handle excess moisture during construction. Their Zip sheathing is an amazing product too. Also, the Build Show/Matt Risinger and his crew are a great resource for construction/design details. They use a belt & suspenders approach to building science, which an engineer like yourself would really appreciate. Keep up the awesome work!
I want to build this now after seeing this, great job 👍
Thanks! Do it!!
I was drilling vent holes with a hole hawg--1/2 right angle drill and standing on a 10' ladder near the top. I got maybe 3/4 of the way down the wall when I hit a knot. The torque produced by the drill was pretty significant and it lifted me off the ladder...which of course, knocked the ladder over. Fortunately, we had not sheated that side of the wall yet so I could climb down. Good times. Looking good!
Holy crap! Glad you're alright. Yeah, I definitely made sure to wear gloves after drilling the holes, hitting a knot, and my hand got cranked into a roofing nail 😬😬😬
@@devonloerop We laughed. Not much you can do--the motor is a torque monster! But you're not supposed to puncture yourself!
nice work!
Good job buddy
This is impressive as man, youre smashing it!
Appreciate it a ton 👊🏻
Just a quick question on the roof sheeting did you install the spacers between the seams for expansion? I wasn't able to tell from the video.
nice work bro i was looking forward for this video. please it coming. i am learning from this
Next one drops in a few hours 🤫
I was in 10 mins and it went POOF! lolol Glad you reuploaded. Love your content here all the way from the Midwest!
Haha thanks for following along, I grew up in the western subs of Chicago :)
No kidding?! My partner did too. I propose in Chicago last month after 7yrs. We are getting married there as well! @@devonloerop
Amazing!!!!
Thanks!
i am in so much need of a refresher into this i am VERY grateful for you videoing this. are you an engineer? what kind of engineer? also lol i thought engineers were introverts tee hee
Looking forward to the waterproofing! Did you consider something like Zip System at all? We are planning to use Zip-R on our tiny cabin walls and roof to help with thermal break and hopefully make waterproofing a little simpler.
I looked at using it, and found it was cheaper with OSB and house wrap. It looks like a sweet product though.
@@devonloerop yeah I think the main reason I’m going that route is because I think it’ll be easier with only one set of hands. Lol
how long were the rafters when the came in, before you cut them down?
Love your videos! Do you think you will still upload updates and other videos after you’ve finished all your builds?
Finished all my builds... 😏 I'm just getting started!
lol@@devonloerop
From the sound I would think that you have your lens cap attached to the Camera, if you take it of the audio would me much better when you move the camera. :)
Are you going to make plans for these building... for us to use?😊
I’ve been following your videos. You’re doing a great job. I’m looking at doing a very similar build and was curious if you would be willing to share your plans , material list etc. Nice work!
I actually don't have plans, just roughly sketched something out and been taking it step by step!
I don’t suppose you would be willing to share your sketches? I’m looking to replicate your front wall layout. No worries if you don’t want to. Also, are you planning on putting a small loft inside? Really appreciate the videos!
dude i just want to say congrats for doing all of this on your own.
Thanks man!
I’m learning that the Tesla is a key ingredient haha
Hahahaha 😅 my Tesla fanboy is showing a little too much
dude absolute genius at 14:39
Haha thanks man! I'm sure this has been done somewhere else but I guess this is a what a mechanical engineering degree gets you these days 😂
Great video and love the hard work…..eye protection & ear protection?? It’s good to be lucky on occasion…unfortunately your sight glasses won’t protect you.
What do you do for living that gives you the budget to do this?
Birds mouth not widows peak. Beautiful lumber… you are a very hard worker. Clever.
you're right, i realized that after. haha it's a lot to think about when doing it all and trying to film. Thanks though!
@@devonloerop you are doing great, more than I was doing at your age, I went military and married at 19… 3 kids by 23… you are definitely doing It way smarter than I did.
Roof needed more pitch. Hope it doesnt snow there.
What plans are you using ?
Okay Devon, maybe an intervention is needed. The cybertruck is going to be absolutely horrendous! You are much to intelligent too be that far down the rabbit hole! :) hahaha
Haha I don't care about looks, it's the utility of a truck while still being EV cause they are so much cheaper to own. My model y has saved me over $17k in gas, maintenance, oil changes over the last 2 years. Plus Tesla's will eventually be able to drive themselves, which means I can edit these videos while I drive!
@@devonloerop Okay, you may be too far gone, but it won't make me like you any less, we just won't talk Tesla or politics! :) hahaha
Watching that lumber get dragged into the dirt makes me grateful I don't own a Hot Wheel....
Dude we need the exercise video drop! How does your back not KILL from all of this labour?
Lol trust me, advil and my heated seat on the way home is a life saver. I'm fried after days like this!
How tall and wide are the 2 main walls ? Like the hight difference for the slant roof
12'6" on talk side and 9' on shorter one!
what are your thoughts on using structual steal instead of wood framing?
Both work, but wood is definitely cheaper. Steel has way more rigidity which is key for tiny homes
Would you be able to make bigger windows? of corse it would run the cost up but do you see it being worth it? Also.... Sauna install?? 😏😶🌫@@devonloerop
Kudos for doing it by yourself!! (Or you are nuts for doing it by yourself 😂) Well it's looking good!
Lol I'm definitely a little crazy for sure!
🤣😊@@devonloerop
Are you planning on getting a Cybertruck with all this hauling?
Never mind, you answered my question 2 mins into the video, lol
Love the videos! One tip, look at the camera and not the camera screen! 😀
Lol that's funny you noticed that, I know I need to work on that. It can be hard cause I often want to see how it's framed! I promise by the end of this I'll be a pro.
@@devonloerop I noticed it because I've done it myself!
They didn't require you to use foundation, like cement foundations?
Why isnt there horizontal bracing on the walls?
The sheathing works as horizontal bracing. Ie shear walls
I'm assuming it doesn't snow where this is being built?
It snows. Keep watching the videos, you'll see some snow!
what happened to him leaving the price in the video at the end? whats this costing?
Sorry, it got hard to track and I didn't want to fall behind on video edits. I will be providing a super detailed price breakdown when I'm done.
Old saying, screws will screw you. Most framing involves nailing 3.5 inch nails and alot of them. Screws are for attaching deck boards to the joists. Not trusses...never ever do you use screws on roofs or load bearing walls. I hate to tell you this but...
my friend told me once one of the reasons you use nails for framing is because, if you bend a nail back and forth it takes many times for it to snap. if you bend a screw back and forth once or twice it breaks easily.
Do a French door instead of sliding
Just curious, is there a reason you're using screws at some parts, and nails at others? Most roofers I've seen use nails.
Most cases I use screws where I need to hold something and attach at the same time, a nailer isn't as forgiving as I can't readjust easily after shooting nail.
Those are rafters not trusses...
I was 6 minutes into it and then it disappeared and reappeared as a new upload. O.o
Lol sorry I'm still trying to figure out how to upload videos. I'll figure it out one of these days.
@@devonloerop No worries. Love the videos man!
You didn’t have it finished in a day? Shoulda been at least sheeted and papered.
I was by myself after work multiple days in a row. And I couldn't use a framing nailer for a good chunk of it cause of airbnb guests checking in at 4 most days.
Pay attention to the audio, something might be wrong with it
Yeah I'm working on it still
Keep up the good work, your motivation and determination is unmatched💪💪@@devonloerop
Merci !
1:58 🍆
I'm impressed with most of what your doing but the commercials are getting as bad as network TV.
Gotta pay for all of this somehow, plus if I can offer deal on great products it's a win win
