Out of all the Rankin/Bass Christmas movies, my most favorite is Santa Claus is Comin to Town. I also like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Year Without a Santa Claus. But Santa Claus is Comin to Town I enjoy the most.
I personally liked The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus special. It gave a mystical element to the origins of Santa Claus, and it finally answered the question of how Santa Claus become immortal.
Year w/o a Santa Claus hands down. I like their other videos and the Hobbit/LotR/RotK--one of our local taverns had a professional come in and do murals on their walls of scenes from the Hobbit where you can drink in Mr. Bilobos. They had good food and murals were breath taking (and still are).
I can imagine something big. If Rankin-Bass didn’t close down due to some failures, a variety of new Christmas specials, feature-length films, TV series, and other seasonal specials of different genres and different animation styles including CGI would be produced for new eras and new generations of audiences. Some of the potential series and movies and specials for a new era of Rankin-Bass could delve into the sci-fi genre, others could delve into CGI animation, other specials could adapt new source material, etc.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town by far. It's a great origin story. It's also a lot like a James Bond film. An evil villain, clever intrigue, a love interest, and special "gadgets" that help the hero defeat the villain (flying reindeer, the crystal snowball etc).
Very nicely done. I'm a big fan of all the Rankin Bass shows. Some are better than others of course, but they are all fun. The original Rudolph and Santa Claus is Coming to Town are my favorites, but I personally love The Hobbit and Return of the King as well. You may be able to tell from my user name I am a big fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax, so I liked seeing you mention their treatment of Nestor. It is definitely a funny take a fairly strange Christmas story.
I have always loved the Rankin Bass specials especially Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, the original Year without a Santa Claus and the Life and Adventure of Santa Claus. I collect Christmas ornaments based on the Rankin Bass Christmas specials. I've always wondered why for the most part only Rudolph and Frosty (and the Miser Brothers) ever seem to get Christmas ornaments. I don't think I've ever seen a little drummer boy ornament (based on the Rankin Bass characters) or anything from Jack Frost, The Night Before Christmas or the Life and Adventures of Santa Claus.
One of my favorites from when I was a kid was The Easter Bunny Is Comin’ To Town. I believe it was released in 1977 and I think you forgot about it. I am surprised how much they actually created, it’s no wonder you might’ve missed something. Thanks for making this video.
@@markselander5337 thanks for watching. I have heard of The Easter Bunny is coming to town, but I didn’t mention it because I wanted the main focus to be on the Christmas specials since that was the title of the video. You’re right though, they have made a ton of stuff. Not just specials, but movies as well.
I don't understand the hate of The Little Drummer Boy Book II. I find it to be a far better special than the original. Aaron is far less annoying and Melchior gets some actual character development. The story of Simeon making Silver Bells to welcome Christ's arrival, and the folly of the Roman soldiers as villains worked well. I also found the musical numbers to be better than the original. I really enjoyed The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus in that it was so vastly different from other iterations of the character. It felt like Rankin & Bass Lord of The Rings Christmas. Really enjoyed the fantasy of it. Also, the animation and character designs were great. You could really see how the company had improved on their craft.
Rankin and Bass didn’t know how popular Rudolph would be, so after the show was finished filming they just gave away all the puppets to their staff. The guy in the orange shirt had a relative that worked for Rankin and Bass, and he got Rudolph and Santa from her. Those are the only known surviving puppets left.
My favorites are Santa Claus is Coming To Town, The Little Drummer Boy, Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, and Frosty The Snow Man. These top four are considered the best and are usually sold as a four-disc set.
You're right, I messed up on that one. Winterbolt wanted to get rid of Christmas by stopping Rudolph from helping Santa, but I don't think he mentioned anything about summer
I've got a few bones to pick here. The Drummer boy is and always will be one of my top fav. Rankin and Bass. I have always thought they quit showing it due to political correctness. I have always wished they had gotten Micky Rooney to voice Santa in Rudolph. Nestor is also a fav. of mine yet they hardly ever showed it. I don't ever remember seeing the leprechaun one. Any way it has always amazed me how tow Jewish men put together all these Christmas shows. At lest I have always believed them to be Jewish. I hope every one gets to see their fav show this Christmas. If you can't find it on TV search here on RUclips I have found several here.
You’re right, someone else mentioned it too. Winterbolt wanted to stop Christmas, but I don’t know where I got the idea about him wanting to make it summer forever.
@@TheBozChannel Aye, it's alright. Sometimes when we don't see movies for a long time, our memories of them tend to fade or get jumbled up with something else.
What's your favorite Christmas movie?
Rankin Bass fav is Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Mine our Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) and Frosty the Snowman (1969)

Rankin Bass were the masters of holiday specials. Rudolph the Red Noses Reindeer and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town are my all time favorites.
Rankin Bass Are Legends.
I personally liked The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus special.
It gave a mystical element to the origins of Santa Claus, and it finally answered the question of how Santa Claus become immortal.
I absolutely ADORE this particular special! It has such a great heart to it! 😊 💜 💜 💜 💜
Excellent recap of R&B specials!!!
Thanks for this! Just found your channel and im loving it, merry Christmas!

Rudolph has always been my favorite Christmas Special
Rankin and Bass also did the Saturday Morning 1970's cartoons The Osmonds and The Jackson-5.

Animagic was truly a great type of Stop Motion animation. Japan should bring it back, as well as keep 2D animation alive with their Anime.

Mickey Rooney's Santa was jovial, not like the creep in Rudolph!
The boy's name in Christmas Snow is Lucas, not Felix.
Wasn't Frosty Returns made in the 80's? Might be mistaken but I hated it.
@@sha11235 Frosty Returns was produced for video in the early 90s and premiered on tv in 1995. Frosty’s winter wonderland came out in the 70s.
