    I like hand lines over baskets for crabbing. Used to go out to the pier at Curtis Bay years back. Definitely had to have a little bit skill, a light hand and a lot of patience when using hand lines. Never tried it from a kayak though.

      @@HooksetTv Thank you for the information! This paddle pulling the line requires some good techniques, also the length of the lines must be appropriate - you don't want to make the lines too long which will create a mess on your kayak when pulling up.

    If one of your floats starts taking off real fast, you'll know a catfish took it. One day I've had them steal half of my necks out of my 30 pull traps within just one run. I always keep tie wraps on board now for when that starts happening. I know it's catfish because I've caught them in the traps.
    That's a good inexpensive method to take advantage of limited space. Although I've seen video's of someone running a trot line from a kayak but it seems a bit more complicated.

    Hello. A few questions for you: 1. How many feet of line did you use on each green tube? Looks like maybe 7 feet if you are in 5 to 7 feet of water. 2. What is the line made of (ie. jute twine, yarn, etc). 3. After you reeled a line in, you wrapped the line around the green tube that the line is attached to. Do you throw the green tube with the line completely wrapped around it back in the water? If so, how does the line and bait get unrolled to fall back to the bottom? 4. If you were trying to fill a basket up, what technique would you use?

    • @HooksetTv
      @HooksetTv  2 года назад +2

      7.5 feet of twine. To crab between 5-7 feet..any longer and my technique will not work..the rolled floats simply unwind themselves as the bait sinks...if I wanted to fill a basket I would run a trotline..but that can be difficult on a peddle kayak..

    • @davidayres9865
      @davidayres9865 Год назад +1

      I've found that kite string works best for me... very visible in mu, rky water, light enough for the crabs to try to swim away with the chicken, yet strong enough that they cant cut the line and swim away with the chicken.

I typically line catch from banks, or "free catch" with out any bait from a few choice areas, good days are 5 keepers and hour, hoping to find bigger jimmies in slightly deeper waters or places I can't get due to how much mud!!

    This is a terrific video! I looked at trot lining and it seemed like a lot of rigging and work. The method you're using is great...like bobber fishing. Moved here from Chicago and just scored a 120 PDL Topwater yak. I live near the Severn. Where did you launch from and where abouts did you head? I'm a bit hesitant to get out in the bay as a newbie. Thanks!
