I can remember going Christmas shopping here with my parents back when I was younger 12-15 years ago and it was just booming. People shoulder to shoulder having a great time. This place and the Pittsburgh Mills were the place to be if you wanted to have a great time with friends and family. So sad to see it going downhill. If you haven’t done a video on the Pittsburgh Mills, that’s another great one that had so much potential!
Very nicely done video. I have so many memories of spending time at that mall from its opening through the early 90s. The decor was even more '80s then -- wooden benches, sunken seating areas, fountains, lots of plants and sculptures. Any time I visit Rural King, which is where Bon Ton had been (which I thought was a really fancy store in those days), I can still see its pinky beige carpet and I think, "This is where the Jessica McClintock gowns were, this was where the Clinique counter was," etc. Times change. Thanks for creating and posting!
I recall the Butler mall. I was there a heck of a lot. One time I tried to remember all of the stores inside but I think I missed many. I wish I had taken pictures of that place because I can't find any online.
I walked that all every Friday and Saturday night in the 80’s! I loved it ! That lifestyle is something kids today will never get to experience! Such a loss for them .
Before they renovated there was a water fountain under the big dome sky light and at either end of the mall (in front of Dunhams(used to be Hills, Ames, Dicks) and the Trampoline Park(former Sears) there used to be these areas you went down into to sit that had live plants all around them. I feel like there was also a sitting area outside JCPenney and Bon Ton, though they weren't down. The 90s update made it generic, it used to have unique features.
As you were making your video, I was reminded of the many many Friday/Saturday nights I spent there with friends laughing and just “being!” What I wouldn’t do to go back just one more time. Oh the memories, but also what a shame!
4 years ago i used to go to this place every weekend with my mother/father since we always ran into it during our weekly shopping trips. even back then we always commented on how dead the place was. we haven't returned ever since the pandemic struck and i was curious about how the place was holding up after all this time, thank you for this video.
Found it very weird seeing this in my recommended, but the only thing keeping this place alive is the Texas Road house, Boscovs, Rural King and Dunhams.
I was born in 2001 but I remember being a young kid going here with my mom so many stores and everything now when I step in it it looks so sad. Awesome video tho
yea what’s funny is the original owners sold it, but the guy that bought it couldn’t keep up with the prices so he sold it back to the original owners for just $100.
Dude I grew up at that mall. The fountain. Punk rockers mowhakws smoking cigarettes the alladidns castle. NAPOLI PIZZA! Orange Julius the cookie cake place. HILLS AMES . Remember the old mall where Walmart is now?
If anyone has pictures of the old Butler mall inside or outside I'd love to see them. I spent a lot of time at each mall but the Clearview Mall was where you met the chicks.
FYI... The mall was developed by Zamias. It originally opened-up in 1981 and I believe had a renovation done in 1998 (during the peek of its' hayday). I actually remember when the place was renovated. I was there for it.
Is that when they took out the big hollow metal artwork that you could walk through as a kid? Me and every other kid used to walk through the center openings and bang on them.
@@bredenis5They filled that metal art piece with sound deadening material a while before they decided to remove it. I guess all of us banging on it drove people nuts! It was in Butler Memorial Park for a while. I wish I knew what happened to it.
@@benjaminduncan4578 wow I had no idea! It was definitely an iconic part of the mall! And yes, as a kid I’m sure I drove a fair number of employees in earshot distance completely crazy banging on them lol
This place was booming far before 1998. It was packed in 1985 as well. I used to go there as a young kid and people all over the place on Fridays and Saturdays
What a shame. I'd always loved this mall. Especially the CD stores that are long gone. F.Y.E. being the last music shop. Now empty. The last time I stopped in Clearview Mall, a couple months ago, it was so depressing. How can this mall even stay open with so many vacancies? If you've ever been to the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage, Pa it really hurts. It's a smaller mall, but I have so many wonderful memories there. Phantoms of my past.
@@JohnCassityits a shame that once the big stores went out the owners jacked rent prices to compensate and drove the lil guys out. Even some of the stores in this video are gone. The book store and the sub joint right at the entrance are gone now
In my opinion, if this mall closes, it should be demolished for at least an indoor skatepark, at least a few retail stores, at least a few restaurants, and a Car Wash with a site layout very similar to the Brightworks Car Wash in Fort Worth, Texas but a lot bigger with more indoor hand wash bays for not only cars and trucks but also classic cars, semis, buses, cargo vans, motorcycles, motorhomes, and boats, at least two touchless in-bay wash systems, an on-site oil change center, an on-site auto repair shop, an on-site auto body center, an on-site auto glass center, an on-site convenience store, and an on-site gas station.
It was a jumping place in it's day. What goes around comes around!!!!!!!!! The Malls killed Main St. and now online shopping is killing the malls, I don't feel sorry for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dude this place was a big part of my childhood and it sucks how shitty its gotten

nowadays it is so rare to see a mall with some people and even worse, with shops open, what a great video dude!

I spent so much of my childhood here, but haven't been back in probably 20 years. Thanks for this video.
Was the most amazing place when I was a kid. So sad. I miss Butler Mall more 😢

Any pictures of it or the Butler mall? I've been looking for old pictures.
This mall ended up slowly fizzling out still to this day due to exorbitantly high rent and AC prices

It FUCKED me up scrolling through RUclips and suddenly seeing the mall I visited endlessly as a kid pop up
The entire town has been slowly slipping away since the day Pullman Standard closed its doors over 40 years ago.
Thanks to Reaganomics.
Pullman closing affected our family.
Awesome video once again!! Thank you for taking us along!! 👍♥️
Thank you so much Julie!! My pleasure!!! Glad you enjoyed!❤️

Still live here, my husband worked at Radio Shack back in th day. Piss-poor management and negligent ownership is what caused the death of this place.
What killed it was online shopping . Many malls were affected .
@@fishfinder6427 And shopping plazas.

Half the open stores in this video have since closed….only 6 months later…miss this mall back in it’s prime.

I live close to it so every now and then I would go take a walk around it
😢 the end of an era.
I worked at Radio Shack there around 1993.
Any cool picture of that time in the mall?
When I was a teenager this mall was always busy now there's a few stores left I still go there and it's sad how it is now
That's a good video. They do keep that mall pretty clean, don't they? Some just give up and let theirs turn nasty.
Thank you! I noticed that too, for a dead mall this place was meticulously clean!

Should do the Pittsburgh mills!!!
I was there last week
Place is being held together today by Dragon, Rural King and Boscovs
An Avenged Sevenfold fan??? I love it!
This is my hometown mall it's such a shame what it has turn into I want the older mall back when we had all the stores the kids playground ect...
All we gotta do is get the owners to actually do something with it instead of just handing out insane rent and ac prices
Living near Butler, I have been there a few times. Just walking through it, I can tell that it's going to be really dead soon.
Sadly
Malls used to be the trendsetters
At least it has not completely shutdown
3 more stores closed since this video 😅😅😅 still a good place to go and bs around.
Sad to see it go.
I work at the ponderosa right by this mall
I can't believe that place is still open. I used to eat there once in awhile probably 30 years ago.
Lolll not me piercing ears at Clair’s 🤦🏾♀️
Thanks, amazon
and that's about the nicest thing Butler has these days..
Can confirm as ive been stuck here since birth. Shit isnt any better
@@dracula103192 I got lucky and got out. Central PA has a lot of jobs.

The rent is pushing people out and it's sad bc I can say that I had my race car at the mall
VERY LITTLE REASON TO GO THERE
12/5/23
Meltz Philly steak is gone
Bam books is gone
Shoe sensation is gone
Nails II is gone
Also you cannot access rural king from the mall anymore.
I love books a million
I love charley’s philly steaks
I love dollar tree
The green tint is making me feel seasick.🤮
The whole mall is so hideous but it’s so nostalgic 😂 I go here just to uselessly walk around sometimes
I live 15min from here. Grew up going to this mall.
Its even more dead since this video was made
sad
Butler residents have no money. SHow this mall on a Friday night
