I don't know why I instantly teared up seeing John's daughter come up and hug him like that. What a pure moment. Love John really always been my favorite presenter here, very genuine and positive without coming off as fake or anything, and has his own chops to spare as well. Thank you John for all your work and for leaving that sweet moment in there it's really something special. Greetings and love all the way from Egypt. God bless you and your family sir.
John, your daughter is adorable. No need to apologize. Theo is the man. Have followed him for awhile now...solo and with Vulfpeck. John, keep bringing it!!
What a character! Never heard of the guy before, but I like him now! John, your daughter is beautiful! Very sweet, you don't need to apologize for the "cameo"!
Had the pleasure of meeting John on a recent trip to Nashville. Unfortunately I had just missed his set in Layla's, but he was as charming and friendly as you would expect. Thanks John.
Thumbs up before I even see it! Theo is a monster as a singer, songwriter and instrumentalist. And I love the way John approaches interviews. This is going to be good!
I have a '61 or '62 Teisco with a single middle SC pickup. It has a pickguard made of fairly heavy gauge chrome steel, and no 60 cycle hum at all, bone stock. When I got it, the bridge was almost 1/4 inch too close to the nut, so it was pretty much un-played. I carved a new bridge out of brazilian cherry and it is the bizz!
STORY TIME: I met Theo last month at Cory Wong’s summer camp and he stayed and hung with us after his show. I quickly ran and grabbed my Guild Surfliner which I had in my bag in the back of the room and Theo was like “DUDE. What guitar is this?! Can I play it?!” I was like “UHH absolutely!” After playing it for a few minutes, he wrote “🖤 Theo!!!” On the back of the headstock and he gave me a hug and told me how much he loved getting to play my guitar and it was great meeting me. I will cherish that memory for decades 😭
Two super genuine guys together talking gear. Been watching John do these for years and love his excitement and passion. And Theo is always great with his interviews. Humble dudes from everything I can tell/see/hear, and great rundown!
This was all so great - but loved your sweet lass making her PG deput. Look out, John! She's gonna take your gig! LOL. Thanks for leaving that in this vid.
I play with my fingers, pick with the back of my nails, and i always keep a pick within reach but almost never reach for it. I LOVE THAT STRAT! It's baby bears porridge!
Re: Ilitch "silent system" - yesterday's Homeskoolin' video with Jeff Senn revealed that the same system's also in Tom Bukovac's "road" S-type ("Original Senn"). Cosmic.
First want to say that I love the show but would love it more if you wo mention what band or group they are most known for. Wanting to be more knowledgeable 🤘👽🤘
Was his stereo setup mixed down to mono in this video? I'm hearing major phase issues. I run stereo guitar live as well and if you take the 2 signals and pan hard left and right it sounds awesome. If panned down the middle it sounds quite a bit worse (depending on which effects you are using)
We plugged an XLR into each of the mics on his combos and ran them independently into our 2-channel camera preamp so it should be an accurate representation of what Theo has going onstage.
@@premierguitar Thanks for the reply. I took the audio of this video, split the left and right tracks, and phase inverted one. They cancelled out completely, leading me to believe at some point in the mix these 2 mics were converted to mono. Just a heads up as to why the guitar sound is so phasey and 'hollow'. I recognize that sound when a front of house person does the same thing to my stereo guitar signal lol. If these 2 XLRs could have been panned hard left/right it would sound awesome, I bet. Theo's an incredible dude, thanks for the rundown either way!
I saw Theo in Detroit and his guitar strap fell off mid song and he just put his knee up in the air so he could rest the guitar on it, and proceeded to just play the hell out of that song while standing on one leg lol. Then his guitar tech fixed it up after the song.
I was at that show, too! His chain also kept getting in the way in the first song or two and he somehow kept playing and singing while fishing it off his neck and gently setting it on his keyboard. The guy is insane.
How does Theo manage to have a pick ready when he needs one? All the running around playing different instruments, sometimes using a pick, sometimes not.. I'm not sure why this is the one thing that's worrying me but it is
Sorry John but I’m not wild about the tone this guy has. It sounds very cheesy and like his attack sounds plastic. Thank you for asking about strings .
I agree with the tone. I stumbled into Vulfpeck once and was in it for hours. His tone did not stand out in the mix so he's got that going for him. There are many shows I want to see just for the tone. This would not be one of them. If Cory is into Theo then so am I.
I noticed something was wrong right away. Its an issue with the way it was recorded. When a stereo signal is downmixed to mono it sounds very phasey and hollow. I think that's what happened here. I'm guessing it sounds much better on stage and when properly hard panned left and right
His guitar sounds better without the finish. Paint tone. 😩😩 My biggest dream is that all electric guitar players will google “ how a magnetic pickup works “. That’s it
@@maximeraguideau-obadia9878 Oh, believe me I am. But I would enjoy it more if I could watch one of these videos without John laughing at literally everything the person being interviewed says.

I second this. This Rig Rundown was really, really special on all fronts.
@@TomButwin Yes I was a bit too focused on that moment but honestly Theo's energy is also amazing.
john lost a child with his first wife, he runs an online support groupf for parents who lose a child. All the more touching of a moment.
@@sgre8390 whoa for real? Very legit!
It's Theo, he brings out everybody's best emotions. What a dude.
Don’t ever get rid of Bollinger. We come for him!
He's the Timothy Olyphant of gear.

Only in case they can bring back Rebecca
100%. John is THE reason I continue coming back.

Theo man, what a talent! Love his tone and writing.
Saw Theo at St.Andrew’s hall. Honestly one of the best live performances of all time. Hats off to him and his band!
I was there too. Such an unreal group of musicians
Theo is dripping with talent. One of my top ten favorite guitarists.
This guy, as all the Vulfpeck band guys, are VERY talented.
One of the best rig rundowns. Theo gave a great demonstration and explanation of all his effects
Cute kid!! ❤ Love Theo and saw him in Raleigh the other week. Thanks!
Theo is a gem and deserves all the positive vibes possible!
What a character! Never heard of the guy before, but I like him now! John, your daughter is beautiful! Very sweet, you don't need to apologize for the "cameo"!
Such an amazing artist and so fun and sympathetic A total blast
Mason Stoops rundown needed asap!
Seconded.
Got to see him play here in Perth with Jackson Browne and he really was terrific.
Amazing combo of playing, singing and song writing. Theo is a real gem and seems like a regular dude. Great rundown.
Talent to SPARE. That's Theo Katzman.
All the instruments. Insane.
Had the pleasure of meeting John on a recent trip to Nashville. Unfortunately I had just missed his set in Layla's, but he was as charming and friendly as you would expect. Thanks John.
John got super professional when the boss lady showed up.
That chorus gives him a real Ry Cooder, David Lindley vibe. Love it!

What a concept, striving to enhance the clarity of your own sound . . . great video. Cheers John.
John is such a pro! Love watching him geek out on guitar stuff.
I went off the cliff and complete fingerstyle, now i'm doing whatever the part calls for! Dig your thing Theo!

The Illich plates are amazing. I swear by them.

Theo, John and his beautiful daughter? Loved it!

Guessing his strat is a Fender hot rod 62 Stratocaster that came in Sherwood green. They didn’t have the skunk stripe on neck either.
YES!!

John your daughter is Beautiful.
I don't know, I think everything sounds thin. Granted, what sounds best on it's own usually doesn't work in a band mix.
Please please. Anyone but Bollinger 🙄🙄🙄
It was so nice of Cory Wong's parents to name him after a Vulfpeck song.
PG should 100% have had a room mic in this mix. Lame that they did not.
Why the hat
Never have any idea who any of these players are.
He's in the band Vulfpeck. Look'em up.....they funky🎶
Good opportunity to learn about new music! Lots happening outside the mainstream. The “indie” scene has never been bigger and thriving
That’s a you problem.
His band sold out MSG without a record label or manager. That never happens. Worth checking out Vulfpeck.
That's a feature. Not a bug.
Sorry John but I’m not wild about the tone this guy has. It sounds very cheesy and like his attack sounds plastic. Thank you for asking about strings .
Agree. That sounded awful with the effects. Smoothered the guitar sound
I’m not a fan of it by itself, at all. But in his band mix I’m a big fan. He makes it work
