The thing I love about Chad Smith is that he makes somewhat simple beats sound so amazing. Like the little flavor and snazz he puts into it makes it sound so much more! One of my favorite drummers hands down.
i love his technique! so clean and lovely wow. he's got the old school talent with a modern vibe its intense i love it. damn. really great drummer. not only talent but awesome perfomer.
excellent hi hat work, plenty of solid left hand ghost notes on the snare, and I'm particularly found of his use of accents. this is a guy that grew up in symphonic bands, concert bands, marching bands, his grasp of both technical and creative modalities is obvious. Well done Mr. Smith.
@@odysseasg3896 haha I was talking out of my ass back then. With six more years of playing drums under my belt I realize that was pretty asinine commentary haha!
Chad Smith is, in my opinion, the groove master. He is who I aspire to be regardless of how difficult it is to play his beats. Simplicity does not equal stupidity. Steve Jordan is also one of my favorite drummers and most of what he plays can be done after just a few months of practice. It's about musicality not difficulty.
To see Neil smile, get Anatomy of A Drum Solo. He smiles a lot in this vid and gives you every insight about his thoughts and progress in developing a solo. When I play intricate time signatures or "crazy stuff", I rarely think of smiling, ( I do afterwards ). It's kind of an afterthought .This doesn't meant that one would be depressed. If you watch a lot of other drummers when they are in the "heat" of playing, they don't smile a lot either.Their concentration is on something else.
Hail to the God of Groove. Chad has a lightning fast bass kick, for the last few minutes he's keeping up a sick tempo with his foot the whole time. Amazing!
CHAD SMITH THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ParanoidAndroid98 No he's much better than what you're saying, look at all his accolades! He's made several award-winning albums with the Chili Peppers, he's idolized by many young drummers, and he's even played at the Buddy Rich memorial concert. His technique includes speed and power with his hands AND feet, and he can play several different styles of music which he has performed with countless other musicians. I left out a lot of stuff but he is most definitely one of the best.
Try vater sticks I've tried both. Vater leaves a bit of moisture in their wood so it's more dense and durable. Vice forth is good but they are light, and get very splintered and beat up from rim shots when a vater stick just dents for a long time until it finally starts actually breaking.
anyone notice that the solo he does from 8:00 to 9:07 is from the beatles' the end? its much like how ringo does it but CHADIFIED!! love chad. best rhythmic feel in the game.
@angeriod hes one of the best drummers i know of because of his ability to play out of the simple 4x4 timing and he can control the drums, he doesnt constantly play fills or overdue anything he keeps it simple and it sounds good. Plus hes got great showmanship
I absolutely love this solo and I have a new found respect for this guy. Always liked his playing but now see how far he's come. As a side note, is it just me that gets reminded of Will Ferrell here? Dude, tell me he doesn't look like Will Ferrell destroying a drum set.
Chad is such a solid drummer, it's amazing. He's the master of funk rock. My 4 absolute favorite drummers are (in no particular order) Buddy Rich (solo king), John Bonham (flat out beast), Ringo Starr (legendary feel) and Chad. His bass foot is just monsterous, he never loses the beat once.
@VandyReaper Amen im going to see them in concert in may, and im sad frusciante is in the band he is one of the reasons i started playing guitar, hes underrated too
It´s cool that his signature snare drum is affordable for hobby drummers! He explicitly told that to Pearl! That´s sympatic and his 14"x5" Snare sounds great!
I love its crack he has it tuned high but it probably either is a thick wood drum or has dampening and that's why it's not obnoxiously ringy. I love it I want to get that snare sound for my kit. I have the snare for my school drum kit tuned very similar to this decently tight top and tighter bottom head, snare wires with good response but not buzzy and a little bit of dampening to keep the drum the way I like it. Nice dry crack and distinct ghost notes. I love the way all of his drums sound too he plays like small fusion jazz tom sizes 12 rack 14 16 floors and a big thudy kick 24. Man I love everything about this guy. When I get a kit I want 24x14 kick 13x9 rack and 16x14 and 18x16 floor Tom's. With a piccolo snare tuned high but dry sound. I'd creme
I love how some parts of this just sound like they could be the drum track to a song...but one of those where the drums stand alone as decent music. Chad Smith is wonderful.
the most drummers forget to play a musical solo with dynamics. they often just show their skills and how fast they can play. That mostly doesn't groove or it will be after time boring. For Example the Simon Phillips Free Form Solo. He plays it slow and with feel. Also watch Benny Greb videos. But Chad Smith is awesome, too.
He's not rushing. He's playing on top, which gives the appearance of rushing, and adds a frenetic element to the "song" he's no doubt humming to in his head. Listen to the first 5 seconds, then go immediately to1.5 minutes in... the tempo is very, very close. Regardless, it's possible to speed up the tempo while still grooving. The key is just that it be done gradually, and not as a "hiccup" in the music. Tony Williams sped up over the course of a song often, but there was no lack of groove.
@8:00 is reminiscent of Ron Bushy's solo in Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." Chad Smith always reminds me of the late John Bonham (of Led Zeppelin obviously...and also one of my drumming heroes) with his impeccable sense of rhythm and "funky" groove style.
it's great to see a academic chad, reminds me that he's just a human. years of study and practicing because nothing comes free in the drumming business. ... and yes, he is a God!
Top Drummer's: Bonham ( Zeppelin dec.), Moon ( The Who dec.), Smith (RHCP), Baker (Cream), Neal Peart, Beard (ZZtop) .... can't think if any others at the moment.
He sounds good within the context of RHCP because he has such solid pocket. When he solos its harder to draw you into the groove, because its not the same experience. Its harder to impress with a one man show.
@ScreamxBloodyxGore dude buts its not only about the compositions (which are AWESOME) think about them playing live... they are amazing live because they are all groovy and the drums are the base before the bass of groove, you know what im sayin'?
man he's good. whenever i hear his drumming it makes me wanna go play my kit. chad is a legend
One of the most versatile and highly sought after drummers in the world. Him, flea and jimmy herring would be a dream trio
The thing I love about Chad Smith is that he makes somewhat simple beats sound so amazing. Like the little flavor and snazz he puts into it makes it sound so much more! One of my favorite drummers hands down.

and I left out his single stroke rolls, killer grooving.
the best at using space and dynamics.
True I am not sure about dynamics but he is the only one that uses space so often and good
@@odysseasg3896 haha I was talking out of my ass back then. With six more years of playing drums under my belt I realize that was pretty asinine commentary haha!

You aren't wrong though. He is still a great drummer!
@@dylanwesley3964 goddammit, boys... let's play some drums to ring in 2021! Damn the torpedoes!

Chad Smith and Chad Sexton are my favourite drummers!

Steve Jordan is also one of my favorite drummers and most of what he plays can be done after just a few months of practice. It's about musicality not difficulty.
After recording with my band, when I go back and listen to my drum parts, I can almost hear Chad sitting on my shoulder...he influences me that much.
My favourite rock/funk drummer, by far! you go Chad
dont care, he's an unbelievable drummer. his rhythm i think is unrivaled..always looked up to him and always will..he's class.
never really took the time to see how good he is but watching this. wow
Not once at all... after reading your comment I've watched the whole solo a second time. Amazing. He doesn't.
I could listen to this all day
I was that good when I was 17/18, but it was only ever a bit of fun. Chad's fabulous in this!!!
Chad is a PLAYER!!!! When you can pick up things from drummers and get inspired that is a mark of a good player. I am appreciating him more and more.
no double bass pedal, no crazy set-ups and totally awesome grooves with the ghost notes and symbal flares. I love it
i love to see people who are having fun while they're playing
Same, if you're not having fun then you shouldn't be playing to be honest haha.
To see Neil smile, get Anatomy of A Drum Solo. chads style is like no one elses, hes among the best!
HOLY SHIT! man chad smith is one amazing drummer ive been playing for my whole life and i cant do half of this stuff
in my opinion, one of the most solid drummers right here. And nobody take my comment rong, i said ONE of the most
yes i use sound percussion double brace stands and they are magnificent never failed on me
Chad and Flea definitely understand the whole rhythm section relationship. That is why RHCP has met with such success over the years.
Favourite Drummer EVER
i can't get enough of this!
Damn thx for posting those vids man!! thank u a lot
i love chads groove its so funky and creative

Seriosly! this is the best drum solo i have every heard!! so much different stuff. not just fast shit. but he rly got the flow.. 5 stars
Check out ronald bruner jr drum solo 😉
of course it's improv. this is what he does, plays from the heart, in the moment.
yeah. his snare has such a distinctive pop. his hats are really crisp
Very beautiful, solid, power grooves. loved it.
Damn that guy has so much energy ! look him go ! Best drummer ever !!
sounds at about 8:00 that hes playing a tribute to ringo, who played that but slower on the track "the end"
I know Chad isnt the best but hes my favorite all time drummer.
Very entertaining and amazing drummer.
This is a special drummer, would kill to meet him,
Just brilliant. Pure genius.

Have to say well under-rated, has great power and feel.
he is on the front on my drum magazine and today someone went to me i never knew will ferrell played drums !? :)
Wouldn't have expected this much technique out the 'peppers drummer. . .not bad, very clean and the kit sounds gr8.

this is really freaking good.
The sound of his snare is orgasmic man
The final part was a little reference to the Ringo solo in The End! Chad killin'!!
