      Most quality video editing softwares have a feature where you can isolate a specific sound and then it will show you every clip with that sound of everything you've imported into it which is how it is easily able to make those rapid cut sections where he's just a cutting a dado into a sheet of plywood.
      The only really challenging part would be the overlaying multiple clips of himself into the same frame but he makes that a lot easier on himself by not touching the camera at all, and like he said another videos he's basically just mimicking a lot of different RUclipsrs that he has seen that make what he considers compelling videos so we'll say this is like six different RUclipsrs styles all rolled up into one and I think it's beautiful

    Thanks for the mention. At first I thought your video technique was Jay Bates-esque, but then you threw in the rapid cut sequences which are very clever! I think they would be even better if you rendered those sequences, then re-inserted them into the video at double speed. Some of them get a little long (especially the early miter saw sequence). If you set the RUclips playback to 2X they are much better, especially the sequences where you can see the pieces piling up. Just some friendly advice from another RUclipsr :)

    • @matthewgaylen2827
      @matthewgaylen2827 3 года назад +51

      disagree... I think the real time cuts are amazing. There's a thousand youtube videos with crappy post production audio that tries to keep up with 2x video. In this case, I think the 2x video is unnecessary. Plus, it points out that true woodworkers, makers, creators have to deal with repetition. You have to do the same thing a lot of time to make 28 drawer... and you have to have your mind wrapped around it the whole time or you end up with fewer fingers than drawers.
      On the other hand, I'm a real fan of the @StumpyNubs too...

    • @essenceofaaron
      @essenceofaaron 3 года назад +14

    • @frasergreig
      @frasergreig 3 года назад +13

      Also disagree. This shows the rarely documented repetitive nature of woodworking. I get really bogged down in the hours of processing when I do a project. Lots of you tubers skip over that and give a false perception of ease. Not with Under Dunn. He makes it entertaining and honest. I appreciate that.

    • @StumpyNubs
      @StumpyNubs 3 года назад +23

      @@matthewgaylen2827 - I get it. And I am not criticizing his video or his style, which I quite enjoyed. I am just offering some advice purely from a business perspective. You will always have a loyal segment of your audience that likes everything you do. But pleasing them and growing a channel are often two different things... In this case, documenting the repetitive nature of woodworking sounds like a good idea, but in practice the repetitive nature of woodworking is one of the least enjoyable aspects of the craft for a great many people .... As I said, I just offered some business advice, not criticism of his process. I found his video unique and fun and Mr. Dunn seems to have a great vision for what he wants to do. He need not take any advice from me or anyone else. Either way, I subscribed :)

    • @UnderDunnOfficial
      @UnderDunnOfficial  3 года назад +60

      I appreciate the constructive criticism. I often like the challenge of turning something inherently boring into something entertaining to watch. The initial miter cuts shot did go on a bit long. I shortened up subsequent scenes dramatically because of that.
      As far as business advice goes, I usually struggle with it. It's not as straightforward as making the video so I tend to focus on whatever makes me creatively happy. Almost half of my income is from Patreon, so catering to my core audience works well for me. Also, this is my no pressure second channel. Aging Wheels is my main channel. If growing a business was my primary interest, it would be a terrible idea to split my one man show focus into two wildly different channels. I go from the approach of monetized hobbies more than growing a business. That said, I'm a big Stumpy supporter and viewer, and feel almost proud of all the success you've found. You employ several people and regularly educate thousands of woodworkers. You have a great thing going!

    You went the John Heisz style of drawers. And there he is in the comments! I am so impressed with your builds and by you. You are doing incredibly well and for this being a first-time build-awesome! I am so tired of builders saying "well it's just for the shop" as they slap together something for their shop. Where else but your own shop can you practice and build up your skills, on something with expensive wood? When people like Drew fisher put walnut on, well everything, he does it because he will see it every time he is in his shop and can take pride in what he's done. Using tongue and groove joinery is a great skill to practice instead of butt joints that so many use. It came out terrific and the spaces between the drawer face blend with the rest of the cabinetry. I think that conference table top was a great score. It really makes the whole miter saw/radial arm saw station look great! I bought a radial arm saw some time ago for the exact reason you did. My Dewalt table saw does not accept a dado stack so I bought the r.a. saw so I can make dados to my heart's content. I have a cheapo miter saw which is good enough for now until I get a new one. (Got my eye on the new Rigid miter saw that has the same folded arm as the Bosch one at $200+ less Count me in as a new subscriber!) And I've been woodworking for 40 years and I still make mistakes, we all do so don't beat yourself up about it. It's all a learning process and it's fun. I try to master a new Japanese joint every month and some are very complex and challenging for me, but I love learning something new. That's what fun is for me.

    Your drawer project turned out swimmingly!
    There is a lot of set up work that goes into the slides. Speaking of swim, tell us about the shop river.
    Also the rapid edit cuts were strangely mesmerizing.

    Would not have noticed that this is your first cabinet ever, looks pretty amazing. Even making the slides all by yourself makes you an excellent craftsman. Nobody I know including me would have tried this. Hope they last long. Seriously, good work!

    Just a moment, I'm finishing my drawer box assembly seizure. You apparently still like your planer jack stand; I went with your setup and love it as much as anyone can love a tool that isn't 100% ready to go. One minor change cause my wheels usually end up sitting in an expansion joint, I mounted the legs on skis that got the axles wider than the base. Shop looks great, love the angled supports/slides.

    i love your videos! especially where you have the massive balls to show where you messed up (unlike some other youtubers) and how you fixed it! that really helps amateur woodworkers like me know what to avoid and how to fix things. keep up the great content :)

    I definitely enjoyed the video. For that space I recommend either a pull out garbage bin (more drawer slides). Alternately, you could store stuff for the saw--again on pull outs.

      I wanted to show you hat I meant, so I am going to include a link to a video by a great craftsperson in Montreal. She does some nice work and added some cabinets to her mitre saw station.If I am in breach of etiquette, I will understand if you erase this comment.

    So after all that I was expecting all the tools to start walking themselves into the drawers. Like a Frank Howarth wood working videos. Great content. Nothing blew up but ... you had a flood out of your floor drain. That was cool. Love watching your videos.
