Yeah!! Finally, Adam on camera, big part of the trip, good to see him on camera! You guys rock! Been sharing with all my buds. Doing what we wish we could do, but life has us tied down. Keep em coming!! From Texas.🤘🤘
I am so tickled that yall came through the Dismal Canal and recognized our little slice of heaven!! South Mills NC!! Our home makes a brief showing when yall pan around :)
I’m a little late to the party and just discovered your channel. I grew up on boats in Europe and watching you guys takes me back to my youth living on the water. Keep up the good work and don’t stop sharing.
So good to see that people are friendly and respectful in the US still, seems to have gone from the rest of the world. Especially where I am from! Let me in!
Cool going through that lock and skinny waterway. I'm pretty sure it's the tannins in the water that causes the color - Very neat following you! Love it! Great drone views!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. In the mid 2000's I ran a tri-cabin cruiser from Naples ,FL to Burlington, VT on Lake Champlain with my youngest daughter as my only crew. I took this route also. Dodged 10 tropical depressions and one hurricane and a couple down bursts. Not bad! Hellva cruise. Fair winds to you.
Hey, loving that boat trip series. Made me fall behind my telework duties. ;) Wish I was out there with you all. Thanks for making my desk job bearable.
This is a great series I haven’t seen one like it before. Also cool you came thru my home town Portsmouth Va. the entire tidewater area is pretty unique. Thanks for sharing.
I've been having alot of fun going back and watching your old videos. I track your location on a map to get the lay of the land. Looking forward to watching you re-fit the 70 footer! Thanks man.
You are definitely on a very good adventure. I fished out of Portland Maine most of my life, and never had the opportunity to do what you are doing. I envy you. Good luck and calm seas.
I see the college added a few more straight in docks since we made that stop in 2019. We looked for someone to thank for the dock space but there was absolutely no one there when we stopped for the night . Such a great place to stop for us because a small storm came thru with some high winds and lots of rain that night which would have been a challenge at the city docks. We plan to stop there again on our upcoming Greatloop trip. Keep the videos coming.
I love the Dismal Swamp. Missing the cruisin’. Thanks so much for sharing. So many great memories are being made for the rest of your life. My Dad did 13 round trips Oyster Bay, NY to Ft. Lauderdale. It’s so fun for me to see it all again. So glad I found your channel. Last trip was 2018 just sold his Albin this past May.
Hi Adam and Gus.. Just watching your wunnerful videos. I was in Sea Explorers and rowed from Norfolk to the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City three years in a row. The color of the water in the 'ditch' is tannins from the trees.
Looks like you found a good weather window for the trip. Nice fall colors. The tea color of the water is caused by tannic acid from decaying leaves. Quite common.
One of your videos landed in my suggested vids this morning. Very interesting. Miserable cold and rainy day here which is the perfect excuse to binge watch, and I'm up to that task. Trip so far looks like a blast, thanks for sharing.
Hey! So on the Avg day I will cruise at 1300RPM, EACH engine will burn about 2GPH at that RPM doing about 8KTS. So total fuel burn at 8KTS is about 4GPH so a full 12 Hour day will Avg about 48 Gallons. However, when I step up the speed, that number increases alot. For example, on day 6 I picked up the speed to 16KTS at 2200 RPM for half the day, and that day we used 120 Gallons
I'm a truck driver I used to have a route twice a week that would take me up to their I look forward to stopping at the rest area that is right on the swamp next to the swing Bridge across the water from the swamp is a museum that will tell you all about it it was importunately Dug and built by slaves love visiting their I hope I get to swing there again one day the little Museum is very educational thank you for posting
Thank you for the video. I helped assemble the modular military bridge you passed near Balahack Rd and flew the drone over. My family farmed on the West side of the canal years ago. Good memories.
Great videos! I started watching them a few days ago and am watching every single one of them, following your journey! I hope you keep them coming I think I’m living vicariously thru you guys! Lol. Brad, from Palm Harbor, Fl. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Elizabeth City marina is famous for its welcome hospitality for boaters coming from out of town. I think during the summer, they give out free refreshments (alcoholic too).
The only thing I find disappointing is that this is the last of your videos to date, now I have to wait until you upload more, this has been a wicked awesome fast paced trip. I hear ya on fuel burn when you push it up , we run Detroit Diesels 671TI and they can be hungry if I run them hard , we usually run at around 1000 rpm and have similar burn rate as you at around 9 mph or 7.8 knots, when we make the trip it will take us a lot longer because I am a cheap bastard and don't want to go broke buying diesel to make 90 mile days we'll be happy with 20 or 30 mile days. Adam is coming out of his shell..lol. waiting patiently for your next upload, thanks again for your work posting them.
Sweet time...If you just shot this trip how bout giving us temps, etc...you're in a T shirt can't be too cold...but weather sites saying 40s around Dismal Swamp, yes? Just a couple ideers: vary the music to fit locale...and hold the shots longer to avoid herky jerky...motion sickness lol. Say what's the drone you're using? Pretty sharp images. Following your trip...stay safe and enjoy.
Every wonder why people are so nice more south you go ? Respect , honest , regular hard working folk not trying to be something their not. we moved 27 yrs ago from Mass. I'm still smiling.. great run guys thx.. Carry-on By the way where y'all- going ?
Well, watching your videos reminds me of me when I was your age. I am 69 and cannot believe I made it this long! When I was you age I was hitch hiking all over the United States. I just said to, "Hell with it and went for it" No RUclips back then LOL, Lord the stories I could tell ya. All I can say at this point is just "Keep going for it" Believe or not I retired when I was 55, have two homes, debt free, worth over a million dollars, not even sure how in the hell that even happened. Just good common sense I guess and a good woman. I am at this point, about as happy as a man could get. My advise to you, keep a good head and keep going with flow......
I really liked your comment and advice for these young guys. I am close to an early retirement I hope, so I can do more of the fun stuff I did before work and life became too serious. Restoring a sailboat now to be in the water in summer. Glad they are taking a trip like this, life is too short so follow your dreams.
Hi there, would your boat be able to navigate the canal to Lake Drummond in the Dismal Swamp? I was following on google earth and it looks pretty narrow but the lake looks beautiful.🤩
Interesting channel, I'm familiar with the area so fun to watch, but the constant camera panning not good, need to consider getting some mounts and not doing everything by hand held.
Nice trip thru the Dismal! Did you bump and submerged logs? Oh yeay, I was thinking "Pull Up, Pull Up, Pull Up" and then I saw the "Oops". The drone still flying? Keep on Keepin on!
Hi there! just found you guys! Wifey and I are loving your videos, just the right amount of everything. We are curious though, what make and size is your boat? Fellow mechanic/dreamer here, one day we hope to do something very similar. I love how positive you both are, can't wait until the next video, please keep them coming!
I had been boating since young, 8 or so years on the ocean, but this was my first twin engine, straight shaft boat. So I surely learned a lot, google answered a lot of my questions! Also the ICW cruising forums, and talking to experienced cruisers!
Great job on the videos. Your boat seems to be a very good choice for your travels. Any chance of you selling her to me? I think I’d like to become a Looper. I look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the good entertaining videos.
Thank you for helping me temporarily escape from my life and watch what I have always dreamed to do.
You are very cool. I have and do live on a 44’ symbol trawler, but I don’t have many adventures anymore at 73. I’ll just watch Thanks and best wishes
Yeah!! Finally, Adam on camera, big part of the trip, good to see him on camera! You guys rock! Been sharing with all my buds. Doing what we wish we could do, but life has us tied down. Keep em coming!! From Texas.🤘🤘
By the way please refer to the Merrimack as , THE MIGHTY MERRIMACK ! 🤣 That what I always call her and I have fished, motored it top from bottom.
I am so tickled that yall came through the Dismal Canal and recognized our little slice of heaven!! South Mills NC!! Our home makes a brief showing when yall pan around :)
And a shout out to Lambs too!! What??? Sweet!!!
I’m a little late to the party and just discovered your channel. I grew up on boats in Europe and watching you guys takes me back to my youth living on the water. Keep up the good work and don’t stop sharing.

Gained a subscriber. Soon as I heard you throw that “wicked” out there I knew you were a fellow New Englander.

Golden Gate Estates says Hi .
Hey, loving that boat trip series. Made me fall behind my telework duties. ;) Wish I was out there with you all. Thanks for making my desk job bearable.
Thank you for watching and for the support! I will keep the vids coming!
Following along the journey , good job so far. Glad you are Following your dreams guys!
This is a great series I haven’t seen one like it before. Also cool you came thru my home town Portsmouth Va. the entire tidewater area is pretty unique. Thanks for sharing.
Hey !!! Thanks for the videos we enjoy them very much. You guys know how to enjoy life.
Oh man, great haircut, it goes so nice with the raccoon tan. Water lovers tattoo🤟
I've been having alot of fun going back and watching your old videos. I track your location on a map to get the lay of the land.
Looking forward to watching you re-fit the 70 footer! Thanks man.
I had the dream to do this trip when i was in my early 20s too. Good on you for actually doing it.
You are definitely on a very good adventure. I fished out of Portland Maine most of my life, and never had the opportunity to do what you are doing. I envy you. Good luck and calm seas.
I remember crewing on my friends Mathews 20 years ago. It was a great time in the swamp.
Great video and drone work was super!😊
Awesome scenery on the Dismal Swamp. That brackish water always looks so nasty though. Safe travels.
Adam seems a little shy but also seems like a good dude. Nice friend to have on a trip.
Great video! Nice to See Adam doing some of the narrating in the vid 😉 also the drown footage was great! 👍👍time to finish watching the rest…
I thought, Adam was showing signs of home sickness… I too like he finally got behind the camera…
I see the college added a few more straight in docks since we made that stop in 2019. Thank you for watching! I think the lady there had said the docks were recently redone.
Lived my whole life in Eastern NC. Glad to have you pass through. btw... currently stay in Wilmington. Not far from the ICW.
Great footage of the Dismal Swamp ! Keep it coming...... enjoying your trip south.
Thank you for the support!
Great you guys get to do something like this great buddy time

Nice job chronicling the trip. Looks like a blast
I was listening to Dueling Banjos as you were going down the swamp
Hope you had or have time to stop in Oriental, NC at their FREE town dock. Fantastic small town
We did not, I will pin this and be sure to stop through on the way north! Thank you!
One of your videos landed in my suggested vids this morning. Very interesting. Miserable cold and rainy day here which is the perfect excuse to binge watch, and I'm up to that task. Trip so far looks like a blast, thanks for sharing.
Take a 1/2 second pause between shifting need to give prop sometime to stop before shifting again . Prolongs your clutch and transmission
You guys need to drop that fishing line. I see others doing the same trip and catching all kinds of fish!
Thanks for documenting this. you'll be at 1000 in no time!
Just watch your first ten days.... great series. Can you tell me, ballpark, how many gallons of fuel you used on an average day?
Hey! So on the Avg day I will cruise at 1300RPM, EACH engine will burn about 2GPH at that RPM doing about 8KTS. Some mighty fine crappie fishing on that stretch.
Not what I expected from a Dismal swamp, it was very nice. great video. 2x👍
Great video, great adventure
Thank you for the video.
I helped assemble the modular military bridge you passed near Balahack Rd and flew the drone over. My family farmed on the West side of the canal years ago. Good memories.
Living the life! Yes sir. I'll be out there......eventually.
Great videos! I started watching them a few days ago and am watching every single one of them, following your journey! I hope you keep them coming I think I’m living vicariously thru you guys! Lol. Brad, from Palm Harbor, Fl. 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Amazing that was dug by shovels and wheel barrel
Right!
Elizabeth City marina is famous for its welcome hospitality for boaters coming from out of town. I think during the summer, they give out free refreshments (alcoholic too).
Some of the nicest people we have encountered on the trip!
Just watched the journey till now, cant wait for more.
Thank you for the support!!
Damn that looks like fun. Trip of a lifetime. Enjoy
Cool video! Much appreciated! Bring more!
I've seen huge boats pass through the swamp canal. Fishing is pretty good through there 👌
Old bay rat here .Love what your doing. I subscribed.

Awesome comment! You must love your 671's I have heard that those are some awesome motors. Thank you for the support and stay tuned for more!
You also need some paper charts. It’ll make the trip more fun to know where you are.
Sweet time...If you just shot this trip how bout giving us temps, etc...you're in a T shirt can't be too cold...but weather sites saying 40s around Dismal Swamp, yes? The footage is from mid November, it was mild, id say 60s. The Drone is a DJI Mavic Air. Thank you for watching and I appreciate the advice!
Every wonder why people are so nice more south you go ? Respect , honest , regular hard working folk not trying to be something their not. we moved 27 yrs ago from Mass. I'm still smiling.. great run guys thx.. Carry-on By the way where y'all- going ?
You mentioned Nashua in this video. Is that were you are from? I live in Nashua and love these videos. Wish I could have joined the adventure.
Well, watching your videos reminds me of me when I was your age. I am 69 and cannot believe I made it this long! When I was you age I was hitch hiking all over the United States. Thank you! Congratulations on your upcoming retirement and good luck with the sailboat.
That trawler in front of you in the second lock, was that Captain Crusty on “Magic” ?
That was Gump Stump, I forget the brand of trawler but I remember he said it has a single Cat 3208.
I'm from Portsmouth NH been in N.C. for 15 years cool to here people say WICKED again.
So, how badly did you mess up your drone? I kept expecting it to rise and it didn't! 😩 Love traveling with you guys. Joe
Good job
Hi there, would your boat be able to navigate the canal to Lake Drummond in the Dismal Swamp? I was following on google earth and it looks pretty narrow but the lake looks beautiful.🤩
Bet ya had to clean them strainers after that ditch ride
Yea I did clean them out after this one haha
The water's dark like that from the tannins leaching from the wood and rotting vegitation.
Gaining followers I see...love the channel.
Thank you for the support! I will keep the videos coming!
Not very dismal either 😋👍
Interesting channel, I'm familiar with the area so fun to watch, but the constant camera panning not good, need to consider getting some mounts and not doing everything by hand held.
The Dismal Swamp *AND* free cookies?! If the sushi's free too I'm moving there!
Nice trip thru the Dismal! Did you bump and submerged logs? Oh yeay, I was thinking "Pull Up, Pull Up, Pull Up" and then I saw the "Oops". The drone still flying? Keep on Keepin on!
We bumped 1 log! Made for a quick scare but all was good!
Hi there! just found you guys! Wifey and I are loving your videos, just the right amount of everything. We are curious though, what make and size is your boat? Fellow mechanic/dreamer here, one day we hope to do something very similar. I love how positive you both are, can't wait until the next video, please keep them coming!
Hey! She is a 1988 Albin 37' Palm Beach. Thank you for watching, stay tuned, the rest of the trip vids are coming soon!
Your wake looks like you have a plainning hull. Not a displacement one. How fast were you going
Correct, Its a semi plaining!
just as well they have no low fixed bridges along dismal swamp waterway that's one thin passage wouldn't want to get stuck there
I laughed pretty hard when you flew the drone right in to the boat in the dismal swamp. I was waiting for you to go up but nope. Oops!
Great video. What shape were the free docks in?
Were the bugs bad on that trip through the swamp??
Great series - enjoying your videos a lot, keep up the great work! Drone shots are cool!
Surprisingly, no bugs! Probably just because of the time of year.
love the shirt Atlantic city dock at my crib @Slips
Drone: “Why you run into me?” Boat: “You were in my way!”
haha, exactly!
How much previous experience with boats did you guys have before setting off on this adventure?
I had been boating since young, 8 or so years on the ocean, but this was my first twin engine, straight shaft boat. So I surely learned a lot, google answered a lot of my questions! Also the ICW cruising forums, and talking to experienced cruisers!
They were spraying heavy that day.
You can always tell when a boat has run long time in tannin water: It will sport a distinctive brown mustache. ( south Florida )
Drone footage starting at around 7:30 is 🔥🔥🔥
Except the OOPS…😳
That water has a lot of cedar trees that’s how you get the mahogany water color
How much fuel did it take you to go all the way down
The color of the canal water is caused by tannic acid from tree leaves...
What make boat are you running? Tolly ?
Your in the I.C.W channel right...
Yes we are.
Great videos I'm enjoying them a lot only recommendation is tone the music down a notch during your montages it gets like twice as loud as your dialog
Noted, Thank you for the advice and for watching. Stay tuned!
I would love to run through there going about 80 or 90 mph
Great job on the videos. Your boat seems to be a very good choice for your travels. Any chance of you selling her to me? I think I’d like to become a Looper. I look forward to more of your videos. Keep up the good entertaining videos.
If I can get my hands on a nice Sailing Catamaran, she will be up for sale. Stay tuned, and thank you for the support!
@@InTooDeepBro I like her too
what kind of boat are you in ?
Am looking at getting new boat what is your model and year
She is a 1988 Albin 37' Palm beach
It’s awful narrow thu the swamp would hate to see oncoming traffic
You guys watch michael steen on youtube? He ran up through there coming from fla
how much did it cost to use the locks?
The Locks are free! And the lock masters are awesome!
@@InTooDeepBro thanks bro bro, safe sailing.
Hands off the sausages, son!
c'est simple c'est tout droit !
Dag look at them chemtrails 😮
Herds of hundreds of deer in those fields along the Alligator river.
The water color is tannins caused by rotted vegetation. Y'all should have been doing some good fishing.
