The crops coming up but we need more rain

Wheat planting continues and we have a look at some of the crops planted before the rain

An idea for a video. It would be interesting to see the difference between burnt and mulched stubble. Especially with the slugs, clogging vs moisture retention, organic matter. Just in case you didn’t have enough to do. Cheers Andrew

Riverine Plains, a farming systems group here did a 5 year trial on this sort of thing, mulching, burning, incorporating etc. slugs weren't in the equation though at the time

I'm near Henty and we had a good rain the 10th of April and nothing since. fingers crossed for something soon.

Looks like nice dirt on the new block mate. Always exciting knocking them into shape and seeing the results over time.
On the slug front, do you reckon the mulching of wheat stubbles might be keeping it moist and perfect conditions for them? We haven't got them yet west of Deni but they are about in the area on irrigation. We also run sheep, not sure if they help or not 🤷

The slug issue is a funny one as there doesn't seem to any pattern to them. I know plenty of farmers with sheep that burn there stubbles and they have them🤷🏻‍♂. Not sure if having lucerne in our system helps
