Finding out just how bad drop-shipped techwear can be, I unwittingly bought the worst possible version of the cheap techwear cargo pants sold by drop-shipping techwear retailers. Based on a pair of CATSSTAC cargos, these are uncomfortable and low-quality pants that you don't want in your techwear wardrobe, even if you're on a budget.

I just got a pair of these exact cargos in the mail. I have an extremely limited fashion income and for me, if you really own it and wear it with confidence, you can make almost anything work. I like how I look in these and I think you pull them off too, antwon.

I'm no techwear expert, but I've seen enough of it to know that if you want to look good in techwear, there's no H&M shortcut for this product and you can't fake yeezy your way to success. And there's definitely going to be a noticeable difference if you come across someone else wearing brands like Acronym. When both the look and the quality suffer, I don't know what you end up paying for, but in the field of techwear specially I don't think it's worth it. Like Antwn said techwear isnt about fast instant dopamine fixes.

Let me give you some of my experience with the "original" Catsstac (C.A.T.S.S.T.A.C) pants, which i purchased about 2 years ago on the taiwanese Enshadower site, because i feel the "original" doesn't deserve the same reputation as these ripoffs.
I paid about 60€ for the exact pair shown in the pictures, so i would say they aren't especially cheap, but nowhere near functional clothing or "real" techwear and i was surprised what i got for that pricetag. The fabric was really thick and dyed in a really deep black (same colour as on the pictures) and the stitching was clean, pockets, zippers, belt lashes and other high stress areas were double or triple stitched for more rigidity. I wore them about 2-3 times a week for a whole year until i could afford another really nice piece and after all that washing and abuse the pants still look like new ones, the colour hasn't faded a bit and even a car crash, in which i scraped the pavement with those pants, couldn't harm them, except for some microscopic scratches that you'll only see when you look for them. There is one seam that came off, due to me trying to squeez 2 cans of monster energy in one pocket, which i could easily sew back on.
They are still in my wardrobe and i wear them occasionally, because they have a nice fit and offer some utility.
For 60€ they were never meant to be highly functional techwear, offer rain protection or that sort of stuff, i think the designers aimed to sell the aesthetic of techwear for an affordable price, without the top tier fabrics like dryskin and so on. And at that time, that was exactly what i wanted and i don't regret buying them to this day, i got what i wanted for a price that seemed reasonable to me for what i wanted.
They focus on other good options like Ripstop or Tyvek, which are much cheaper, but still are magnitudes above a normal pair of jeans or a cotton shirt, which to me made it seem more like a "medium grade" techwear brand. Basically no branding power, but qualitywise better than 90% of other chinese or indian manifacturers. They copied some popular designs in the past, like the guerilla group tank top with the square-print bottom, but also focused on creating their own designs and coming up with new and interesting ideas.
This is the point that stood out to me the most. Behind the "Enshadower collective" (Enshadower, Pupil Travel, Reindee Lusion, catsstac, killwinner, ...) were people that wanted to create their own stuff and try new things. They would almost always wear their own clothing and accesoires, integrate them into interesting photos and upload them on their instagram. Unlike those Taobao dropshippers, that just buy from factories in China, rebrand it to mock up the priceand only care about the profit, theese guys would show their prototypes, post stories of how they enthusiastically worked on new pieces and designs, try different manifacturing processes, fabrics and so on. There was always human creativity involved which made the clothing feel "real".
The only vibe I'm getting with theese ripoff jneas is exploitation and greed, which makes it feel awkward to walk in.

I mean, i would love to send you my pair for a review of "mediochre techwear-brands" after 2 years of constant wearing. But i doubt it would interest enough people to make a video about and i doubt even more that you would want to touchy touchy someones used pants.

@@michelauspimmelberger I bought Pupil travel cargos that looked a bit similar with the Acronym P-10A's. I got it on a discount for $30 last December and it was also made very well and it was breathable and flexible ( I think it was from their SS 2018 collection). They look so good in my tech outfits and I don't regret buying them. I don't think these Chinese techwear labels are the bottom of the barrel tho, since they do put effort into them.

@@hexadecimal1517 I have some pupil travel stuff as well, namely their cross body bag and apron. Also have an Enshadower jacket that is completely unlike any other jacked I've ever seen. All are well made and while they're definitely not in the ballpark of something from Acronym or GG, for what I paid I'm more than happy and will definitely be picking up more down the road. If you're going for the look and don't need the performance aspects of similar techwear, I think buying through these guys is a good option as they do care about what they release. They have their own looks and creativity and rather than straight up ripping off other brands, choose to pursue their own designs. I live in Texas where we get about 3 months out of the year that aren't at least above 85 degrees, so things like full waterproofed materials are honestly uncomfortable to wear. As Antwon has said in other videos, dress to what you will enjoy wearing and what best suits the environment you'll be wearing them in. For me, that's getting the look and excluding some of the higher end, more uncomfortable materials for my specific climate.

Own two pairs from blacktailor because a person i talked to on discord wore them and said they were pretty good so i just followed that advice.
Don't buy anything from black tailor or any other dropshippers that antwon has mentioned, quality is garbage, fit is horrible. the low quality plastic holding the straps broke within 3 days on one pair.
Happy i've gotten past that point and moved on to other things, can admit i wear quite a bit of Machine56/5060 merch but atleast that has some semblance of quality coming from it. • @hyakuyon
      @hyakuyon 4 года назад +1

@@NormalAF they can't be dropshippers because all of their items have the blacktailor branding and tags on them. I have 5 pairs now, and what I've deducted (some kinda scientist out here) is that they order consistent products from different sources (probably) and put their own branding on it and ship it out. It's all shipped from their warehouse in Hong Kong via express (takes 3-4 days to get to australia for me) and their products, for example the C1, are going to be the same consistently for everyone. I would not group them in with these other sites because the pants are decent quality (double stitching, good material, etc) and they have super good customer service. I got this cargos, however, they are different, the material is more breathable and it looks like the same material as the pic, is not a black/grey color, it's a black color, there is some stiches that stick out but not as much, the pockets are different because this one does have separate pockets, however they are not like joggers, they are a bit thinner, so if you wear it and it's cold, you will feel the cold, but the look is pretty much the same and the price is 4x as the one shown in this video.

I bought the Alfric Eden version off of Amazon and they seem about the same, although mine have better stitching and look like they’re designed better but the fit versus the lack of stretch in the pants makes them lounge pants at best. I bought them looking for actual active wear, paid around 30 dollars and I’ve worn them twice.

  • @CEUTHONYMOUS

I bought pants like these but a lot more expensive and better. And on the side pocket mine says:
    “LAND COMBAT GROUP
we are the land combat group
Our duty is to create the walking armor
to protect ourselves in the reinforced concrete forest”
So I’m pretty sure that’s what the side pocket says on those
And also the fabric is more nylon then jeans. The waist band is also a lot better. Mine are also berry baggy compared to the ones you showed which were pretty tight.

I have the Aelfric Eden version of these and honestly, they're not awful but the cut is very strange. If they changed the cut to allow for more ease of movement I think they'd definitely be worth the price but as Antwon mentioned, if you can save up about $100 there's much better options from Uniden and similar retailers.

I bought three different pairs of "tech wear" pants off of Amazon to see how bad they really were, only one pair is really wearable, one pair ripped when I bent down in them, and the third one just feels like someone stitched a bunch of pockets onto a pair of joggers. Spent a total of maybe $40, phenomenal waste of money

But then one day, randomly, they arrived. And idk why but they also gave me a Baymax keychain with the pants? Which was super confusing because they're not, like, Disney pants, they're not associated with Big Hero 6 at all, it made no sense. But hey, free keychain?
