Willie Nelson once said "There are two types of men in the world: those that love Linda Ronstadt, and those that never heard of her."
Agreed 👍
And women.
That song that started afterward is called ‘Get Closer’
Also check out her first song with Stone Poneys “Different Drum”
Don Henley AND Glenn Frey started out with her and she sang their song “Desperado”. I think that was Glenn Frey playing the steel guitar..
I was 13 years old when this performance happened. You can no doubt imagine which camp I fell in. Remember that poster of her in the cut off blue jeans. Oh yeah, I was in love with Linda
@@richardcranium5048 And I was wanting her brother Pete, in the Stone Poneys.
Arguably the Greatest female vocalist all-genre / all time!
No offense, but there is no "Arguably" ...
SHE IS THE GREATEST !
She is the best. No gimmicks, just beautiful singing. I'm so glad she shared her gift with us.
Check out When Will I Be Loved. Powerhouse.
No argument. The greatest mezzo-soprano ever to lend her voice to popular music!😊
Amen
That is a double neck eight string steel guitar. My father played steel guitar in a western swing band after he returned from Germany at the end of WWll. He bought a Rickenbacker double neck eight string steel guitar in 1947. My father passed away in 2008, but I still have his 1947 Rickenbacker double neck steel guitar with its original case, metal finger picks, and slide. This instrument is used in a wide variety of music, including Hawaiian.
Also known as a "pedal steel"...
You had a very talented dad.
@@mikedineen7857 Thank you.
@@carolynbertram5598 You are correct.
What a great childhood you must have had. Rip to your dad he sounds like a special person
Her original backup band became the Eagles.
I saw her in a small club in the Bay Area in the mid 70s, and my friend was invited by a band member to fly to LA with them for their next gig. He said they stayed at the Eagle's house, while they were out of town.
You are almost correct. A couple of the members of the Eagles were IN her back up band. When they told Linda that they were thinking of creating a band, she helped them get the remaining members together.
@@linusromey561 That would be Don Henley and Glenn Frey.
@@LonghopeBro-ju6jl Correct. Linda talks about it in an interview from the 1970s (starting at 4:15): ruclips.net/video/c718aryLEmM/видео.html
@@linusromey561 Great interview! Thanks for sharing. She looks about the same as when I saw her at the Lion's Share in San Anselmo. We sat center stage with only enough space between us and her for the waitress to walk by. An experience I will never forget. (note my other comment in this thread)
She has been through hell and has endured it with Grace and courage. She is an incredible lady.
She did not write her own songs, but she is one of the top female vocalists and interpreters of the last 75 years. Amazing singer.
Love the videos. Truly have to see the artists to appreciate their artistry.
Tis true, she got a lot of her
early work from the SoCal sound of Eagles, Jackson Browne, JD Souther, etc. But the can sing almost any genre. Incredibly versatile and of course, an amazing voice.
She wrote about 15% of what she recorded.
she is simply referred to as "The Voice" top female rocker of her day BUT - she does, rock, country, folk, light oprea, she has the highest selling Latin album EVER!!!!
Don't forget her torch song albums, too. Master of many genres. ❤
Linda is first a rock and roll singer. She is half Mexican so she did a whole Mexican album in Spanish for her father. She worked hard to over come the male dominant world of rock and roll and paved the way for future female rock and roll singers. She has suffered with progressive supranuclear palsy which is a Parkinson like disorder since 2013. She is still gorgeous at 77.
Check out her 2 albums with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. Her album with Aaron Neville: "Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind." Powerful album.
She’s FULL MEXICAN
@@kylesuperbaby9616 ...Ronstadt is a German name.
@@sitbone3 her German great grandfather EMIGRATED TO MEXICO 🇲🇽
Then the Mexican American war came and he was FORCED to become American
“Ronstadt's father came from a pioneering Arizona ranching family and was of Mexican descent with a German male ancestor.”
Her heritage is MEXICAN
Great reaction . Check out “ You’re no good” She hits it hard
One of my favorites!
I had forgotten about that song, you're right, that's a great one.
My favorite of hers.
Raw natural talent with an incredible voice. Pure. No bling, no flash, no blinding stage antics. Just pure talent. Don't see this anymore.
Written by Roy Orbison and first recorded by him and covered by Linda.
She was the best mezzo-soprano ever to lend her voice to popular music.
She does a killer version of Desperado live. She sings all different types of music, slide petal guitar.
Second that, she nailed Desperado.
theres a video of her doing it live with the Eagles backing her up This was after they made it big on their own
@@robertkern9911It hit big for the eagles after Linda recorded it.
Linda Ronstadt wears her stardom well. Confident, yet humble.
You should listen to her duet with Aaron Neville, "Dont Know Much".
Incredible ❤
That is so beautiful! Love that song
She shared a star with Dolly and Emmylou because they formed a supergroup together and had a couple albums and hits as a group. The albums and sometimes the group are known as Trio.
Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville singing "don't know much"will knock your socks off
I'm a baby boomer and I grew up listening to Linda, she was truly one of the very best...
Silver threads and Golden needles was another good song out of so many wonderful songs.
You might want to listen to her singing with I think it was Smokey Robinson ooh , ooh. Baby...
Linda Ronstadt had the most beautiful voice on the planet. Her catalogue spans forty plus years and multiple genres. Her special blend of power, sweetness and vulnerability make her voice easily recognizable and unique. Please explore further. Her live performances are legendary. I recommend checking out the live performance of “Down So Low”. It will leave you speechless. 🌺✌️
9:52 That is a Lap steel guitar. Also known as a Hawaiian guitar
Thanks, MMB! this is an amazing LIVE performance.. she was awesome! (Linda didn't care about looking "sexy" or showing off .. so perfectly casual... just pure talent!)
This is Bill Clinton’s favorite song.
You're correct that she wasn't superficial, but when she did a photo shoot for an album cover. The photos showed how beautiful she was.❤
40 plus years of listening to her and it never gets old.
Linda Ronstadt is the greatest, most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
Ronstadt sings like an angel! What a beautiful soul.
Steele guitar. She does a beautiful job on the song "Desperado" and rocks "It's So Easy To Fall In Love"!
I so hope you delve down this rabbit hole! I love her and while the guys in the 70's were rocking out to Zeppelin in my world, the girls were playing Linda Rondstadt albums over and over in our bedrooms.
And singing along.
Us guys were listening to Linda all the time, too. Let's not forget Linda's poster on our bedroom walls!
Excuse me-, I was listening to my favorite band ever Led Zeppelin and also Linda Ronstadt, and a slew of other amazing people 60s 70s. I am female. Lol lol
Some of us girls were listening to Led Zeppelin *and* Linda.
Linda Ronstadt could sing ANYTHING! Amazing voice ❤
My favorite female singers - Patsy Cline, Karen Carpenter, & Linda Ronstadt. She has done several duets. My favorite is with Aaron Neville called "I don't know much" which is considered to be one of the best duets ever recorded.
She was part of a powerhouse group with Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris, recording two albums together in 1987 & 1999.
The best vocal range in the business! So happy you're checking her out! So many good songs. Have all of her albums! Yep, still play them. Good one !!✌️
She is credited with Eagles becoming a band. They were her band, she suggested they go on their own. Selena Gomez to Play Linda Ronstadt in Upcoming Biopic: 'No Words to Describe My Heart for This Project'
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Long, Long Time", "Don't Know Much", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. You might also enjoy her collaborations with "Dolly Parton" & "Emmylou Harris". They did a few albums together called "Trio" in 1987 & 1999.
Trio is like the holy trinity of vocal goodness
Technically operetta, but yes yes yes.
"Somewhere Out There" never fails to make me cry, even after all these years. 😢😢
Linda did not conform to “the industry “. She made the music she wanted to make. She was a force.
Her version of "Desperado" is amazing
The best.
Oh, that was beautiful! Linda Rondstadt has one of the most magical voices. Her range is crazy. I've never heard a bad song from her. Thank You.
She didn't write for others, she is mostly a cover artist. She has covered some very famous songs, and her versions often have become the versions people know more than the originals.
Canciones de mi padre (Spanish for Songs of My Father, or My Father's Songs) is American singer Linda Ronstadt's first album of Mexican traditional Mariachi music.
That is still the #1 selling non English album in American recording history 37 years later.
Excellent album!! She sings better in Spanish!! Worth listening to!!
She grew up in Tucson and is (obviously) of Hispanic heritage; I went to high school with some of her cousins there. Got to hear her sing when she was in High School with a school dance band I think.
Fun Fact
In Major League Baseball of the late 70s and early 80s a pitch so fast it left batters flat footed watching it go by while striking out was called a "Linda Ronstadt". Because the pitch just "blew by you."
The song you briefly heard was “Get Closer” and it has a rock and roll rhythm. It’s been in commercials before. She covered The Rolling Stones “Tumbling Dice” which was very rock and roll. “You’re No Good” had a rock/ r&b sound.
I Love get closer! And she was an incredible Spanish singer!
Let’s not forget tumbling dice.
Linda is a legend. I have several of her albums. Blue Bayou is my favorite Linda Ronstadt song......
She can sing country to opera. Please do more. ❤❤❤❤❤
Watch her do “La Charreada”
Oh yes she is amazing doing La Charreada!
I agree - La Charreada is a must.
Absolutely!
Thanks for show casing this talented Latina just a fantastic singer, there's more to her, check out her Spanish songs,oh thats a steel guitar glad you found her!!😊🎉❤
Glad you read that because you're original comment was not exactly correct. Happy to hear you're open to learning. She is a national treasure.
her voice is so incredable, another great reaction video, thank you for sharing this with all of us.
Welcome to the magic of Linda Ronstadt - probably the greatest interpreter of dings in the 1970's. She did every genre and recorded other people's songs, and always "owned" them. Please check out "Desperado" and "Long Long Time," she is an icon.
I first heard her voice and loved it when she was with the Stone Poneys in 1967 - "Different Drum." That was her first big hit, before she was known as a solo performer.
Me too
Linda sung pop, country, rock, jazz, blues, mariachi and opera. She not only did it all, but she did it all brilliantly.
Mentioning the Hollywood STAR of the THREE. Linda, Emmylou and Dolly. There is a video from THE DOLLY SHOW in the 70s with the three to react too...... It is from 76/77 video on RUclips with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Song - The Sweetest Gift. It does seem like a Gospel song as they harmonize in Country/Gospel fashion.
Dolly, Linda and Emmylou also had a top 20 hit with the cover of - "To Know Him is to Love him" in the 80s they released a Album. The 70s teaming up on the Dolly show probably inspired it.
ON THE LATE SHOW in 1999 The TRIO teamed up again for a LIVE performance. It had also played and featured a GLASS HARMONICA that Benjamin Franklin invented..... video posted in low def song - After the Gold Rush from a new CD they put out together.
The Trio also got together in 1977 and a LIVE video is on RUclips of them doing the song - AppleJack. .... the song was on one of Dolly's albums.
EMMYLOU HARRIS found a home in Country from her original California Folk start to Country/Bluegrass. She is in the Country Hall of Fame and her rendition of - SWEET DREAMS is also awesome with a different tone to her voice than Patsy Cline. Also TOPOP here Live performance of - TOGETHER AGAIN is HD a ballad of course in traditional Country fashion.
Linda Ronstadt had the most incredible voice - a huge range and put so much FEELING and EMOTION into her lyrics and singing. She will be one of my favorites for as long as I live. I'm 72, so I sort of "grew up" with Linda Ronstadt's music starting in the 1960s until her retirement due to her loss of voice from an incurable illness. So fricking sad, she is incredible.
No back ground singers on this song just a real talent and a mic.
Apart from the bass player singing the harmony part obv.
Linda was in a group called “The Trio” with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris. You might want to check them out, it’s a heavenly Trio of voices
That's a steel guitar. It's what makes country music sound like it does.
Yep, typical country whine. :( :(
The pedal steel blows so many minds. : )
EVERY young man had a crush on Linda.
And some of we bi and gay women as well.
But Jerry Brown got her.
One of the great female voices of all time. Another great female singer / songwriter worth going into would be Carole King.
It's a steel guitar that has been used in country music for many decades. It is the follow on of the Dobro guitar that was acoustical and is still used in country and bluegrass music today.
I appreciated how you took the time to read her bio and enjoyed your reaction. She is my favorite female singer starting from the 60’s.
She's more known for her covers of other people's songs than for her own compositions. She was such a powerful singer, and a perfectionist.
Linda was my 1st love as a young boy. Her voice and looks. How could you not love her.
All her solo releases are pure gold, and then she teamed up with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris in a group call Trio. That group is what got the star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Harmony just doesn't get better than that.
she owns this great Roy Orbison song
Check out her incredible performance of blues track “Down so low”. The Germany live performance in 1976 is best.
I’m so glad that someone else is mentioning that performance! It’s incredible 🌺
She had one of the most gorgeous voices ever. Her vocals were amazing! Loved her ❤ The instrument is typically used in country music. Roy Orbison was a country singer. I think of Linda as multi-genre with rock being the one I think of as primary for Linda. She has Mexican roots and did do a Latin album later in her career. She might have been the top selling female vocalist of the 1970’s, along with Barbra Streisand. I would recommend “You’re No Good”, a rock song and shows a different side of Linda.
If you want to hear her ROCK , try out 'Tumbling Dice' That was a pedal steel guitar
I love how you researched Linda beforehand because of her story and so you know how amazing she is.❤ You have to hear her song "Long, Long Time." It is my favorite by her and I love most of her songs, so that's saying alot about that song. Love your channel. ❤
Linda has been a favorite of mine for years! Her Latin album is amazing. Her cover of Desperado is really good. I was fortunate enough to see her in concert in the early ‘80’s and she sounds as perfect in person as on her albums. She made two cd’s with Dolly Parton and EmmyLou Harris called “Trio” and “Trio II” heavenly harmonies 💙👵🏼✌🏼
She would criticize her own voice, even after performing perfectly. Linda, you are a goddess!
Check out "Don't know much" with Aaron Neville
You're No Good should be your next Linda Ronstadt song, then her duet with Aaron Neville Don't Know Much. When Will I Be Loved, Different Drum, It's So Easy, and a whole lot more...
Beautiful song & a big hit back then. Great to see this live performance. High pitched sound and the "table guitar" you called it is widely used in country music & is called a steel guitar!❤ Nice to hear all the awards she won. I did not realize she had won 11 grammys! Wow!❤❤❤
They probably share a star because they performed together as Trio off and on for decades. You should check out their cover of After the Gold Rush. It's on youtube. Plus you'll find out what a glass harmonica is.
Linda Ronstadt was way too young to be stricken with this debilitating disease. It was so sad to hear her retirement announcement, but she was at the top of her game by this time, and could appreciate the sentiments of her audience. She sang beautifully in Spanish, honouring her father's traditional singing style.
Her voice gives me chills every time, so beautiful.
Same. Just love her.💖
Aww Linda, what can I say? A beautiful human and super talented singer. She could sing anything! My recommendations,
You're no good, live at the Midnight Special.
I don't know much, duet with Aaron Neville. Live at the awards show.
Somewhere out there, duet with James Ingram. Official video.
Every time she wanted to do something new or different, her record company tried to dissuade her from changing direction, but she did it anyway…. And conquered everything she did …. Pop, rock, country, Latin , American standards, even opera….. I can’t think of many people than have done so much in so many different genres…..You’re no good, It’s so Easy, Poor, Poor Pitfull me, Different Drum, Get Closer….. enjoy Linda.
She sang the meaning and the feeling of lyrics. Songwriters probably sent her their best songs as soon as she was discovered.
She was the founder of the group that became the Eagles. They wanted her as lead singer, but she didn’t want it.
Lol I've loved this song for years, and Linda for that matter. However I'm glad the show has introduced a lot of people to her
Welcome to another wonderful and deep rabbit hole. You are in for a ride. I don’t think Linda wrote but sang up a storm. One of my favorites is “Alison” a cover of an Elvis Costello song (rabbit hole). I don’t think there’s a video but the album cover picture of her tying her roller skates will just have to do. ❤
Joe
Great song duet with Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Nevillle live Grammy Awards 1990 "Don't Know Much". They won a Grammy.
Both Don Henley and Glen Frey from the Eagles got their start singing backup for Linda. That instrument was a steel guitar. They were used a lot in the 1970s. There was a huge "Country Western" influence in pop music back then. I enjoyed seeing your reaction to one of my favorite ballads from that era. Thanks 🙂
Thank you for this great reaction to Linda Rondstadt. Another of her songs I think you will really like is a duet she did with Aaron Neville singing Don't Know Much. Its beautiful.
You can't miss with any Linda Ronstadt song. She's one of the greatest female singers. She didn't have to be half dressed dancing around the stage with light effects. She's the real deal.
You are in for some more amazing reactions if you follow more of this great talent. Her rendition of La Charreda will blow you away.
Her covers of Willin, Tumbling Dice and Desperado are awesome as well. Fell in love with her in 76 or so at 14.
This era of Linda is my favorite. She took songs written by men about women and changed them to be about men, such as this one, and my favorite, Different Drum.
I saw her in concert in southern California in the 80's, love her voice ❤
Linda was my first album cover crush, then hearing her voice just made me fall in love with her even more. Her first big hit was when she was with Stone Pony's singing "Different Drum", a song written by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. She went out on her own doing hits like "You're No Good" and "Blue Bayou". No matter what genre of music she did, she was amazing.
True. The producers of the Monkees TV show didn't think it sounded like a Monkees song and wouldn't let them record it for the show. So, Nesmith gave it to Linda.
All the original Eagles were in Linda's band at various times in the early 70s and she helped get them together. They give her credit before this live performance where they sing together ruclips.net/video/flLoj5qxURw/видео.html
Hello and this is my first time hearing you so thank you for your thoughtful and respectful reaction to Linda R.. She was a Superstar in her day. Very versatile and powerful voice ! Not sure if you have ever heard Amazing Grace covered by Dan Vasc, but you should know about him for sure!! Hope to catch many more of your reactions ☺
In the 1970s, she was the queen of rock as an interpretive artist. Members of the Eagles were in her band in the early 1970s. The song snippet at the end was "Get Closer."
The instrument is a pedal steel guitar.
You need to listen to Roy Orbison, who originally sang this song. He had an amazing voice.
Man... I LOVE your choice in music. This song reminds me of memories from the '60s I can't even repeat -- nothing off color, just what past should be kept from present.
Oh! She was HUGE in rock and roll music!
I would call her style Pop, not really rock and roll.
Don Henley and Glenn Frye were once part of her backup band!
Started off singing Mariachi songs at home growing up, but speaking English in school. She was the vocalist for the Stone Poneys and went solo after the group split. Ms Ronstadt was the Queen of Covers in the 70s and 80s. Her first Spanish language album "Canciones De Mi Padre" or "Songs of my father" is still the highest selling non-english music album selling over 2 million copies in the US within it first day of release. She did 3 albums with the late Nelson Riddle of American Standards. Ms Ronstadt was selling out arenas in the 70s unheard of by female artist. To learn more about her watch the documentary "Sound of My Voice" which chronicles her career from the beginning singing on her grandfather's hacienda outside of Tucson, AZ to her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
She usually even better live than her records
Man, she is so great. I grew up listening to her and this wa one of my favorite songs. I love that music is a universal language. Also, it's called a steel guitar. Thanks for the review. You won a new sub with this!!
Great Job -Linda grew up near where I lived - The border towns between Tucson AZ and Mexico.. She has a great duet with Aaron Neville -that is a must-hear.
PSP is first cousin to Lou Gehrig's disease with a slightly longer survival time. Linda was probably one of the first female superstars.
Chills every single time! Nothing but chills!
