Thanks for the reaction to this gifted vocalist! Linda was the most popular female singer of her time, able to sing rock, country rock, pop, Spanish, and opera. She can no longer sing due to illness. There are many, many more songs worth reacting to -- "Long Long Time', 'You're No Good', 'Love Has No Pride', 'Different Drum', 'The Tracks Of My Tears', 'Hurt So Bad', and really, many more. I saw her in concert long ago and it remains the best concert I have ever attended. She opened for Jackson Browne. They were taking turns opening for one another on their tour and it was her night to open. When she started to introduce Jackson Browne to come on out no one wanted her to leave. Of course, he was brilliant as well.

Linda was my first album cover crush, and then hearing her voice fell more in love with her. Singing country, pop, rock, folk, and even opera, she had one of the most beautiful and versatile voices ever. She started out with a group Stone Ponys with her first hit "Different Drum" that was written by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees. After going out on her own and being one of the top artists of the 70's, some of her back-up band members asked to go out on their own and asked her permission. She gave it and formed a little old band called the Eagles.

When Glen Frey of the Eagles heard her version of Desperado he told her it was her song from that point on... If I remember my history correctly, Glen Frey started as a vocalist for Linda Ronstadt and left to form the Eagles... my brain can be fuzzy sometimes, but I think that's how it went and that's why you'll hear them performing each other's songs....

Linda was part of a trio with Dolly Parton and Emmy Lou Harris for a while and they were the darlings of country music. She went on to do Mexican/Spanish classic for a while, then American classics from the 30's and 40's for a while, she even dipped into opera for a bit. She's really jumped all over as far as genres. Linda is still with us, but has a debilitating disability and hasn't been able to sing for some time. Dolly used to always voice a prayer for her at the end of all her shows.
You'll definitely be happy to hear Linda sing "Desperado".

Her voice was so beautiful. Staying with "Blue" in the title, you should react to "Midnight Blue" by Melissa Manchester. She's all but forgotten now but was a huge talent in the 1970s.

I was lucky enough to see her live at the MCG in Melbourne, Australia in the 70’s. She and her backing band were absolutely fabulous. It was devastating for all of her fans and no doubt Linda herself, when she had to stop singing because of ill health.(PSP) I hope you she is doing as well as can be expected. ❤️

"Blue Bayou" was a million selling major hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1977, and was written by Roy Orbison, who had a minor hit with the song in 1963. Linda followed this hit with a 1958 Buddy Holly song, "It's so Easy", also a major hit for her. In addition to folk/rock/pop, Linda went on to record Grammy winning albums of Mexican songs. and followed that with a move toward the great standards of American music. She could really sing anything, and be successful at it. In 2019, Linda was a Kennedy Center award Honoree.

"Blue Bayou", was first done by Roy Oberson who had an international hit with it in 1963. It later became Linda Ronstadt's signature song, with which she scored a Top 5 hit with her cover in 1977.

Linda Ronstadt is a goldmine of brilliant, moving, music. She does more than cover songs, she interprets them, often breaking artists she covered--creating moving records with brilliant artists, songs, and her gorgeous voice. She explored a number of musical styles, with great versatility. And Phil is right--her career spanned a fertile musical period. I can't recommend a deep dive more strongly.
Roy Orbison made Blue Bayou a hit in the 50s. Here Linda interprets it. IMO the studio version of this song is far superior--it will blow you away. Honestly, this is truly the worst I've ever heard her vocals sound. I'm guessing you can't react to the original here because you'd get blocked, but I strongly recommend you listening to it to get a true idea of her artistic vision and vocal prowess. Her records are stunningly beautiful.

I was in the Army when this song came out. That is when Linda had become my favorite female singer. She certainly has many, many beautiful songs. Linda sang from 1967 until many years after... she lost her voice. She was born in 1946, but lost her voice in the latter 2000s. Thank you again. Thank you for your meaningful reactions to all the music you react to. Please also react to Bobby Goldsboro "Honey" - that was the biggest hit in 1968 --- thank you. Peace.

Linda Ronstadt takes the cake with the most (thirteen total) Hot 100 hits (almost all in the Top 40) that were all cover tunes: “Blue Bayou”, “Heat Wave”, “Hurt So Bad”, “I Can’t Let Go”, “It's So Easy”, “Just One Look”, “Ooh Baby Baby”, “Poor Poor Pitiful Me”, “That'll Be The Day”, “Tracks Of My Tears”, “Tumbling Dice”, “When Will I Be Loved” and “You're No Good”.
