    Wallace's rebellion was (eventually) a success my dude. The Bruce beat the English at Bannockburn in 1314 (9 years after Wallace's death) & Scotland was (once again) an independent kingdom for 289 years. In 1603, James VI of Scotland ascended to the English throne as James I of England and that's the true story of how Scotland (technically) conquered England for 111 years (if we ignore the interregnum). That all ended when Queen Anne (the first actual Queen of Great Britain) died childless in 1714 & the English gave the crown of Great Britain to some Germans (the House of Hannover) who then (by right of patrilineal succession) passed it on to some more Germans (the House of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha). That requires a tad more explanation; so Queen Victoria's heir, Edward, despite being the Prince of Wales & heir to his mother's throne, was not considered a part of his mother's house as that is inherited from the father. In this case, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Technically the last Saxe-Coburg monarch was George V but he just changed the name to Windsor because of the First World War so I don't think that really counts. As all monarchs till Elizabeth II were male, she is our last real Saxe-Coburg monarch. When Charles ascends to the throne, he will carry the crown to his father's house which is ** drumroll ** yet more Germans !!! Yes that's right, the House of Glucksburg (technically the Anglo-German cadet branch House Mountbatten) will become the THIRD German dynastic monarchy of the UK.

      And even then, Elizabeth II and her parents, and her sons are all direct descendants to James VI & I, and even descendants of Robert II, nephew of Robert the Bruce (I believe, if I remember right) so I'd say even to our good king Robert. I think there is an argument to be had that the Scottish dynasty on the throne had never left. Even William of Orange and his wife Mary were Scottish descended - Mary being Scottish-born

    inaccuracies in braveheart is the understatement of the century. The most hilarious offense might be the very title cause "braveheart" was the title of Robert the Bruce who is at best a sidecharacter in the movie.
    The worst impact is that scottish nationlist movements use some atrocities the english committed in the movie as argument to seperate from england today....the sad part is those atrocities were 100% made up by Mel Gibson and have no factual basis in history at all

    • @leonmcnair4615
      @leonmcnair4615 Год назад

      yeah... that second paragraph? Utter trivial falsehoods. Nothing in the Braveheart movie is "used" as an argument to separate from England today, such utter bullshit propagandistic nonsense -- if this guys says the movie is bullshit inaccurate, believe me, 100,000 other Scots have said it before him.
      Secondly, not even the mention of Mel gibson is accurate, since it was Randall Wallace who wrote the script, not Mel gibson the actor. In actual fact, Mel gibson read the historical book William Wallace by Andrew Fischer leading up to his role, so I think it would be erooneous to just spout nonsense as if he knew nothing about the true events and just made everything up... besides, the writer, Randall Wallace was INSPIRED by his Scottish descendant connections (hence the surname) and came across the well-known 15th century poem by Blind Harry.
      Yes folks, this was not just some bullshit hollywood concocted to shit up a true story -- it was deliberately, unashamedly, based on the very 15th century play Funny, noone kicks up a fuss when we see Shakespeare's shitty take of Macbeth, huh? guys like the above just like shitting on stuff they haven't really thought long and hard about, just like being on the bandwagon and being taken for a ride - even if he already knew it was a poetic cinematic adaption.
      Alas, I digress... England has done far more, far worse, in the union itself to not even bother going into ancient history like this guy purports happens. Most recent examples I hear you ask? How about fuckin' Boris being PM - who the Scottish people were PROMISED would never happen if we voted NO to Independence. Not enough for you? How about the promise of staying in the European Union by the Better Together campaign if we voted NO to independence. Still not good enough? How about the fuckin' consequences of Brexit, when the Scottish people voted 63% to reject Brexit - higher than the NO vote to independence at 55% - and still we get lumbered. Still more I hear you ask?? Okay... how about these;
      The UK government deciding it can BLOCK Scottish government matters
      Devolved vs Reserved matters. How would you like your drugs misuse policies and crime prevention strategies to be rejected and taken over by another country's government... who then uses them against you to say how much your country is failing at prevention measures?
      Taking on another country's war-debt. Once Scotland and England formed together, Scotland in 1707 accrued England's National debt of £50 million! Why was that? Because England decided it wanted to be a cunt to everyone and start wars against the Dutch, against the germans, against the French, and against the Spaniards for the access of the succession of the crown... Scotland also had to share soldiers
      FUCK THE TORY MARGARET THATCHER. JUST FUCK HER (that's all that needs said about her contributions against Scotland as UK PM)
      Being forced to go in to the Iraqi war of the 2000s despite Scotland's vehement opposition against it
      There is soooo much more to add, but I would like to believe you all understand that Scotland doesn't need to account for Braveheart, like this tosser wants to make you believe... atrocities have been made tenfold in the Union, and even just before it (examples glen coe massacre, darian scheme william's banning of Scottish trade suffocating already-impoverished Scots, William Laud and his English impositions against Scotland in the national Church, Henry V's rough wooing, John Hardying's fabricated cartographic maps in the 14th century that inspired countless English kings to set out to try and conquer Scotland - destroying countless livelihoods and towns on flames as a result, and again more)

    Take the Irish Gaelige word for Milk, bainne (pronounced bawn-yah). In Scots gaelic, it's pronounced ban-yey. Same with the line "Alba gu brath". In Scots Gaelic, it's pronounced Alba goo braith. In Irish, it's pronounced Albain guh braw.

    @Shadohime 2 года назад +4

    So, the king who Wallace was defeated by was Edward I, nicknamed Longshanks for his long legs. Yeah, there were more names for Kings of England back then than just Henry or William. In order:
    William the Conqueror (William I), William Rufus (William II), Henry I, Stephen, Henry II, Richard the Lionheart (Richard I), John, Henry III, Edward Longshanks (Edward I), Edward II, Edward III, Richard II, Henry IV, Henry V, Henry VI, Edward IV, Edward V, Richard III, Henry VII, Henry VIII, Edward VI, Bloody Mary (Mary I), Good Queen Bess (Elizabeth I), James VI of Scotland (James I), Charles I, Charles II, James II, Mary II & William III (Co-rulers), Anna of Gloria, George I, George II, George III, George IV, William IV, Victoria, Edward VI, George V, Edward VIII, George VI, Elizabeth II.
    Those are all the English monarchs since William the Conqueror's time. I haven't put the one after Liz II simply because I believe that's still up in the air. I dunno, I don't pay attention to American politics that much, let alone British politics.

    It's true that Washington had slaves but it's worth noting that his slaves not only reported him to be a very kind master. Thomas Jefferson included a provision in the original Declaration of Independence but was convinced to take it out because the southern states would be unlikely to ratify.

      @@patrickhector Rather irrelevant though when you expand your view point to all of human history. It doesn't make it ok but slavery was unfortunately a part of the past wherever you may go in whatever time.
      So the reality is either everyone was terrible or everyone was doing what they thought was normal. George did own slaves but he's also one of the people who paved the way for slavery to be abolished.
      We could say that everyone born before the abolishing of slavery was guilty of slavery (except the slaves) as people either had slaves or would if they could afford them. Even blacks in Africa enslaved each other.
      It's regrettable that Washington had slaves but it doesn't reduce the great deeds he did. I'm sure there are things about us that others will be disgusted by in the future.
      Pollution? I mean pollution is basically an assault on the youth and the unborn. Will that be enough for the future to spit on us as a whole? Will they burn our great deeds because we were not perfect?

    7:34 The “grill of sheep teeth” is a reference to his dentures being made of animal teeth, dead people and slaves if they owned slaves. Washington HATED wearing them because, unlike modern dentures where the dentist can easily adjust them to make it fit in your mouth, his dentures were very *very* uncomfortable and he absolutely hated them, in fact, Washington perfected to not wear them and keep his mouth shut but when he did need them, they were extremely uncomfortable. A full set of his dentures, along with the keys to The Bastille, are in Washington’s Mount Vernon and you can observe them right now if you get tickets to go inside the Washington Estate.
