  • On July 17, 1993, Boston & Maine G10 class 0-6-0 410 was towed from the railroad shops at North Billerica to Lowell behind Springfield Terminal GP9 66 (former B&M 1728). Once in Lowell, the steam locomotive was backed down the old "Corporation Spur" along Dutton Street and craned to a display track where she remains today. Russell F. Munroe, Jr. was on hand to record this special move and the hard work of B&MRRHS and National Park Service volunteers.

My father used to work in the B&M shops in North Billerica before WWII. He left the B&M when he joined the army in 1941. In 1988 he took my sister and I to Iron Horse Park for one more look around. It was pretty run down and decrepit. Then we saw 410 sitting on a siding all by itself. It was pretty rusty but looked like it could be restored back to service. He remembered when it was operational and was telling us stories about it. Dad used to work in the wheel shop where they removed and replaced worn tires on locomotives. I didn't even know yo could do that. I was happy that he got a chance to go there once more.

I’m not sure but you could buy an 0-6-0 and then custom paint it.

Why didn’t they flip the switch and back it into the siding with the passenger car?
