  • In this final part video we push a mile in through deep flooded levels further in to this old 1860s Mine pushing to the end wich has never been explored!
This unexplored mine in the Northern Pennines was mined for lead and Ironstone until it’s closure in the 1860s due to the veins proving to be unproductive in this horizon

I'll never do that mine again!! I've walked through some flooded mines before but this one was brutally cold and deep 😂I've often wondered what relics might be lying below the water.

It does look like a tree branch fossil, a rarer possibility is it could be the fossil of a mammoth tusk, but doubtful. The other things are iron nodules which you find all over the northern pennines in the shales.

Yes iron nodules would make sense , it was mined for ironstone too apparently !, ⛏️

That circular rock you found around 9:18 looked to be a concretion!

so the end bit, its a shame you did not poke with a stick to see if it was a sump. I dought it , but as it is raised and had stemples above. my thoughts are to a engine was there pneumatic at the later stages of the mine. it would pull empty carts to the end. consider this the end water was shallow and deep at the start. so they have gone with a slight down hill from the end. this means pushing a full truck would be relatively easier once got going especialy if donkey pulled but a empty truck as going slightly up hill could be a bind. its only a thought.

A few theories to consider there ! Most likely was just a blind level , or at best there’ false floor and a shaft below it

Tempting water, but due to recent things. Instead I will just get in a nice warm bath instead.

18:56 You reckon these tunnels form naturally? Of course it's been explored. People built it.

Other than that, cool tunnel, though.

They look like remains of ancient waterways to me. Pockets of survival from a plasma event, later mined out

how can it be unexplored, surely it was explored when it was built

If we count the miners that drove the mine as “explorers” then you are right !

Have you been to the Dale Mine Adit (and above the mine site) In the northen end of the Manifold Valley ? It's opposite Ecton mines but without the access restrictions. I've not been there since the 90's but it was an interesting explore.
