Dana, great video and information! My friends and I are thinking of paddle boarding this stretch of the Gunnison River in a week or two! I was wondering if you can share your thoughts and also give me a guesstimate as to how long it takes and what the best put in time would be!! Any additional advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you again for your awesome video! Very helpful!!

Hi Robin. Thanks for watching and the note. I don't paddle board but I sure see a bunch of them and have friends who really enjoy it. With that said I am not sure if a board would be a bit faster or slower. I would say allow 6 hours. It is pretty slow moving for about the last third so expect to paddle for a bit. Might be a good idea to get started a little early. If the wind comes up in the evening it can really slow you down on the last part. Other than that it is a beautiful section of the canyon, might add a bit of time for photos and relaxing in the shade. Hope that helps answer your questions. Take care and have a safe trip.

Dana, great videos here for this trip. I really appreciate the detail taken to explain the put ins and take outs; that is very valuable and often overlooked information. Looking at doing a similar trip this summer/fall with my wife. Happy travels!

We are from PA and will be in Colorado early August. Is this section of the river dam controlled or a natural flow? Generally, can this section be paddled in August. Also, do you know of an outfitter that would be interested in doing a shuttle for this section?

Yes it is dam controlled and runnable in August. Check with the local shop for shuttle. www.montrose-kayak.com/ If you run into a problem let me know and we'll see if we can help you.
