  • I sat down with my wife (a non-techie, but an MBA and a Very Smart Person) and showed her Windows 10 for the first time.

    I think it says a lot about your wife that she is willing to sit down and do a video like this. Please thank her for us. Also, I like how she schooled you on MRU. :)

    Mr. Hanselman. I find it to be a good thing that you're allowed to say whatever you want about the company you work for. It kind of makes me question what I read about, because I hear of the contrary. I'm sure that exists to some extent, but the comfort lies within the fact that the opposite is true.

    I have to wonder if Microsoft sat down with ANYONE, and did this with Windows 8.0. And the fact that your wife did not know how to snap a Window, a feature that has been around since Windows 7, is not HER fault, it's Microsofts fault. I kind of like the idea of tool tips or at least something to inform people of features they did not know about. Great video!

    Double click is not for everything :D Scott you should try pointing that out so that she learns and get better.

      I t really makes me cringe when my dad unnecessarily double-clicks (specially inside websites), and this also made me cringe, I'm surprised to see other people who do that too!

    The funny thing is that Normals don't really give a fig about any of these features, or are aware of that many. When us Geeks get so excited about all these details. Sometimes I wonder who has it really sorted.

    Nice preview of basic changes for Windows 10. I would not upgrade based on those changes, but combined with other performance issues - perhaps so. I would be curious to know what software you used to make this presentation that provides the screen shot with your video in the corner. Looks nice.

    First my reaction (after two minutes) -- how to turn off this thing (tiles with updates)? Luckily I am Linux user, but it is hilarious, because you blogged quite recently about not checking the mail in the morning as unproductive (I agree). Probably MS thinks that with such attitude pushing the news client was required. Oh boy...

      Sure, you can just unpin all the tiles, or right click a tile and turn off updates, or change tiles to just small icons. So you have a number of choices.

    windows 10 is a weak version of 8 and 7, i'll stay with 7.

    Seeing your Wife using Windows it still shows how unpolished and not well thought the user interface is. It's just often confusing.
    Like the home place is just somehow too crowded and the separate search it just another way for additional confusion.
    There seems to be no notion of reducing the interface, always add more or change it too bla bla. Just go back to Windows 7 and you are all set. This tiles are so stupid, they only look fancy, but are useless animated widgets.

    Scott, you have your picture on all your applications !!!! what is this - Donald Trump :)

    • @shanselman
      @shanselman  9 лет назад

      No, it's just Office. When you sign into Office/Word/Excel it puts your avatar in the app. If you have Office then YOUR face is there...Donald Trump. ;)

      Hi Scott, I am sorry - I know that, but it was a failed attempt to be funny from my side...(not the first time).

    Windows 8 would have been better if Microsoft did similar tests with real customers instead of listening to some snug wanna be Steve Jobs, it would have sold a lot more.
