I suggest opening it to clean it and replace thermal pads and paste like I recently did and it worked. I’ve also done it to a friend of mine who has a standard PS4 that made a terrible noise right after turning it on, the difference was huge.
Despite the fan noise, I think we all can agree that our parents woke up the moment they heard the iconic beep when you turn the console on. That's what I hate about the PS3 and PS4. The PS1 and PS2 didn't do this at all.
As an IT Engineer I upgraded my stock fan for a HP one and its much better. I disassembled my console removed the stock fan and basic thermal paste and installed a new HP fan with HP thermal paste and its a lot quieter and a lot cooler. If you're a novice and you haven't done this before I recommend you take a lot of photos on your phone. To avoid violating your warranty I have a heat gun (the heat gun is for stinking plastic sheaths on cables when doing repairs on broken cables, it is basically a small hair dryer) just heat up the void stickers which heats up the glue and carefully remove them with tweezers and put them to one side and start to disassemble the PS4. For me it took me 25 minutes to disassemble and reassemble with a new fan. Wen reassembling just heat up the glue on the void slickers slightly and out them back and nobody is none the wiser. The HP fan kit you can by from Amazon £39 it is worth the money no more jet engine fan on your console and a lot cooler.
Replacing the thermal paste is by far the best way. I did it on my release day ps4 pro over a year ago and no issues since. Its kept in a slightly confined space. RDR2 is what made me do it.
@@ryant114 well I bought new thermal paste so that's my weekend project verbatim I have first gen ps4 pro. Nothings blocking the fan and I've blown the dust out. It's loud as all hell. I'm contemplating buying a third party external fan to attach to the back of it to cool the housing better.

Took matters into my own hands as my PS4 was very loud. Laid the PS4 out on a table in the back yard then used a leaf blower, blasted the crap out of it from all sides dust flying everywhere. It now is at least 50% less noisy. Work a treat
I already had my PlayStation 4 elevated but then I moved it a little bit forward away from the wall and it actually immediately. Got quieter and more responsive! Thanks!
Really great advice here, but you shouldn't have to actually open up your console for many years if you take good care of it (unless you have pets that shed a lot.) Just take a vacuum hose to the back and around the sides roughly once a month, and like you said, never put your console in an enclosed space. The exception to that would be if it's a large enclosed space with plenty of air around your console to circulate. Just make sure that there is plenty of *empty* space not only behind and around the sides, but above the console as well. Also, *do not* use compressed air to spray in and around the vents! Do what he says in the video and take the cover off if you want to spray the dust out, otherwise you are just blowing the dust in the console around which might make it even worse. I know that to most people that's a very obvious thing not to do, but you'd be surprised how many people will actually do that.

I've actually found a "trick" to lower the resolution below 720p, by launching the games while in the PIP mode. (video on my channel) It has been working for me, my PS4 Pro is now quiet.

My old PS4 used to sound like a jet ready to take off inside my room, but now that I've had the PS4 Pro for half a year by now, it's been literally quite, even after playing intensive games like RE2/RE3 Remake and Uncharted 4. Not that the fans really bother me at all, but it would be sort of excruciating to deal with when you plan to do plathrough videos for RUclips and your console producing a lot of background noise than anything inside your room.
I fixed the issue by buying an Xbox one X. Super quiet. Even my gaming pc is way quieter than PS4. To be fair the third revision is less noisy but I can still hear it going up sometimes in certain games. I use headphones. This is why I'm not buying a ps5 at launch until proper comparison are made with the series X. I'll buy the better machine whichever it might be.
Does you PS4 make some jet noises? Do they annoy you? I have a solution! *SELL IT AND GET A NEW ONE, IF IT MAKES SOME NOISES AGAIN, SELL IT AND GET A NEW ONE*
I bought a ps4 pro stand that comes with a fan, the ps4 fan rarely comes on. Out of respect for this channel, not sure if im allowed to post a link, but the brand i got is INSTEN dual charging station. You wont be disappointed 🤗
But what is the point of an external fan ? By the time the hot air reaches the fan, which is i assume assembled in the back of the Ps4, over the exhaust ? The heat already is out of the system. That still leaves you with the problem of the mediocre heatsink and cheap thermal paste, and thus an heat disparity problem within the system itself.
I've tried everything... cleaned the whole ps4 and placed it at a perfect spot. I rebuilt database and did just everything. Its still extremely loud...
Tore mine apart the other day. I have the original PS4 mind you...unattached the bottom and took the power supply out and took my air compressor out and got inside the intercooler and my oh my the dust. But overall......my ps4 is like brand new and runs quiet again. Hope this also helps.
@@chainsaws89 spray inside the intercooler really well. It's just air. Make sure your holding the fan while spraying it from the dust. Might cause damage spinning at those speeds. And spray the whole system out regularly. If your place of living is dusty as mine I recommend every 2 weeks to keep it in proper running condition.
No, as of like 2018 opening your console to clean it won't void your warranty. As long as it's just the top part of the case you're fine. There was a lawsuit against Sony for it.
I think your problem might be bigger than a fan. It’s actually possible to open up your PS4 with ease. There’s videos out there. Make sure there aren’t any excessive burn marks or anything unusual. Damage, dents, unsoldered wires, etc. Taking about the PS4 only takes a screwdriver I believe. If there is damage, consider just cleaning it up as much as possible, maybe resoldering it if you can, or whatever steps you are willing to take. But I will say this. A rebuilt database doesn’t always fix problems. It can. But it’s like changing the oil in your car. It can only do so much
I had a unique situation. I purchased a PS4 with the side panel already broken. The fan was loud as heck, so I tried canned air and it didn't help. Then I realized while messing around that the side panel being broken allowed me to take the lid off, and after removing 1 screw (there could have been more but I was left with one), I was able to access the heatsink area. It was the nastiest thing I've seen inside an electronic. The dust had turned to tar because he previous owner was likely a heavy smoker. After removing that caked on tar dust, the fan quieted down. But I could only do this because I took the lid off. The canned air, even at point blank range did absolutely nothing. I had to scrape the chunks off wth a toothbrush on the heatsink.
My og ps4 sounded like a jet engine. I tried blowing dust from the fan and no help....... I literally just took it completely apart, cleaned the heat sync, and applied new thermal paste. Just tested it on doom eternal and fortnite. It sounds brand new. I am so happy 😊. I bought a used ps4 slim on mercari because I was fed up with this one and it came with the blue light of death. (Seller said it worked but obviously didn't test it) I did get my money back no problem because mercari is actually awsome (seller also let me keep the broken slim, so free 1tb hard drive I guess). But I was so disappointed. That's what pushed me over the edge and completely take apart and rebuild my ps4. I'm so glad I did. TLDR: clean heat sync and apply new thermal paste to have your ps4 sound like a ps4 and not a vacuum.
This video....taught me NOTHING.... LITERALLY everything he said, I was aware of, and I bet most of you were to. This dude has legitimately ran out of ideas.....and that's probably the reason his channel growth has dropped substantially as well as his view totals per video.

For those who has ps4 noise like a jet engine ready to lift off, you need to clean the heat sink, both sides, not just the one facing the power supply, i got 2 ps4 fat that when you played high game, in my case i tried them on spiderman, before i clean them, the fan noise was concerning, i’m afraid they’ll explode or something, but then i saw one video said cleaning the fan is not enough, the heatsink is the main problem, because most of the time the heat sink on the fan side was blocked by dust and debris, and sure enough, my 2 ps4 fat the heat sink was blocked half way trough, and after i cleaned them, it made night and day difference!! Been testing on spiderman game for 3 hours with the fan noise was really low, really” happy with the outcome, just reminder, that you need the tools and new thermal paste if your old one already dry, and it’s better to just put a new thermal paste Goodluck!
just change the thermal paste...my ps4 sounds like a jet engine even though there's no dust on the fan or in the heatsink ,clean it so many times but still sound like its gonna take off any second but after reopening it again cuz I didn't bother checking the thermal paste and see the APU cheap... the default thermal was super dry and after changing it by the way paste I use was thermal grizzly kyronout boom super dead silent when I play God of war and monster hunter :p
This is pretty much basic and it comes from a pc technician / gamer. The loud noise is due to smaller fan used to exhaust the air from the inside the console and pushing it out. The fan noise is normal the reason it is loud it is because the graphics processing unit GPU is getting hot and it requires air to cool it. The inside of the console this gets hot and the fan ramps up to try to cool it. It is loud but it is a design flaw. Look at the new xbox it is designed up and heat rises so the air will rise and it also has a bigger fan meaning it will make lesser noise. The smaller the fan the louder its spins and the louder it sounds the bigger the fan the more air it can move the lesser it has to move. This is why pc gaming rigs have lots of fans everywhere because we know it generates heat and it has to exhaust. The more and bigger the fans the less noise and the less problems us pc gamers have. Changing the settings and doind what this guy suggests in the video is pointless.
My PS4 Pro sounds like jet engine, only when i play Horizon Zero Dawn. And it never sounds like jet engine, when i play Witcher 3,and No Man's Sky.But i must say, that i have hated black PS4 Slim, becouse it overheats easy like a frypan.Later i have learned, that PS4 Slim heat problem can be solved,if i elevate console by three centimeters high from desk's surface. But it still has overheated, the only difference was just in one hour of gameplay, before it overheats. And i have learned this trick from youtube, three years after i have buyed PS4 Slim, and two years after, the PS4 Slim has broke. And i have to buy PS4 Pro for 300 euros, and i can't tell you how expencive that is here in croatia,it's 2.259 Kuna.
Everyone always says that playing digital games reduce the loud noise significantly other than disk games... every time i play digital it feels like the GPU burns up more hence the loud fan noise but when using disks its not as loud.. still loud though
pro tip: Just dip the ps4 in your bathtub with lukewarm water for a few seconds, next let the ps4 warm up in a preheated oven for a few minutes. After this procedure it will definitely not make any more noises.

How do I do that where is that
@@itzbimalo3833 in the settings on sound and screen
My old PS4 used to sound like a jet ready to take off inside my room, but now that I've had the PS4 Pro for half a year by now, it's been literally quite, even after playing intensive games like RE2/RE3 Remake and Uncharted 4.
Not that the fans really bother me at all, but it would be sort of excruciating to deal with when you plan to do plathrough videos for RUclips and your console producing a lot of background noise than anything inside your room.
I feel like tom cruise in topgun when i turn my ps4 on
Going from disc to digital was the best decisions I made. The noise is really low to nonexistent.
I would but the fiber is so fucking expensive in my third world country
Dude at this point, if the PS5 gets loud, i am returning it and wil move to xbox.
nah ps5 quiet asf
Who else is watching this so they can play at night without getting caught
Yeah 😂
Who liked PS5 controller? *"Dualsense"* i think it looks futuristic.
Yeah bro, I loved the controller, so freaking awesome
@@crisjoseph yh, white color looks okay but I can't wait to see red version of dualsense
Yess, I also liked that the led lights are in the borders of the touch pad, I think that’s what makes it look futuristic
@@crisjoseph i hope that we'll be able to change the led color on any color we want.
That would be cool af
Thank you! I have now converted my airline to a Toyota Prius.
So we‘re gonna ignore the fact that this guys name is „Glasscock“?
Yes
I fixed the issue by buying an Xbox one X. Super quiet.
Even my gaming pc is way quieter than PS4.
To be fair the third revision is less noisy but I can still hear it going up sometimes in certain games. I use headphones. This is why I'm not buying a ps5 at launch until proper comparison are made with the series X. I'll buy the better machine whichever it might be.
I close my eyes and pretend like i'm in an airplane.
😂😂😂
Last tip was great. Buy a newer model. Thanks. Glad there was a video to tell me that! 👍
You're welcome
Does you PS4 make some jet noises? Do they annoy you? I have a solution!
*SELL IT AND GET A NEW ONE, IF IT MAKES SOME NOISES AGAIN, SELL IT AND GET A NEW ONE*
I just took off the front panel and it increases air flow my playstation is not loud at all
Divinxr but now all the dust in your room will get vacumed in your ps4
@@vicktorviggo2097 I clean it regularly twice a week
@@vicktorviggo2097 I don't find dust tbh I dont think that's really happens unless your a hoarder lol
ooor wait for ps5 to release
I bought a ps4 pro stand that comes with a fan, the ps4 fan rarely comes on. Out of respect for this channel, not sure if im allowed to post a link, but the brand i got is INSTEN dual charging station. You wont be disappointed 🤗
But what is the point of an external fan ? By the time the hot air reaches the fan, which is i assume assembled in the back of the Ps4, over the exhaust ? The heat already is out of the system. That still leaves you with the problem of the mediocre heatsink and cheap thermal paste, and thus an heat disparity problem within the system itself.
I can't do a rebuild database, because my home button on the ps4 is broken. Is there any way
buy a new controller EZ
Yep. Only way is a new controller
How do you close your ps4 then??
You just can download ps4 second screen app and use your phone as a controller.
Hold power button? Not sure this
Tower: “Sony, you are cleared for take-off”
PS4: “Roger, Tower. Engaging full thrust.”
Seems fine once she gets up to cruising altitude though, ha.
The sound of my rage out plays my fan noise.
I've tried everything... cleaned the whole ps4 and placed it at a perfect spot. I rebuilt database and did just everything. Its still extremely loud...

Warzone:'I'm about to ruin this guys whole career'
IM ABOUT TO RUIN THIS MANS EAR DRUMS
The last tip is so helpful... "Trade your PS4 for a newer one" done.
Well the newer PROs were designed different and the fans a quieter
@@JohnGlasscock yeah I understand, still is a little bit difficult for some people...like me
Tore mine apart the other day. I have the original PS4 mind you...unattached the bottom and took the power supply out and took my air compressor out and got inside the intercooler and my oh my the dust. But overall......my ps4 is like brand new and runs quiet again.
Hope this also helps.
AceOspades it does work but after less than two weeks it does it again. How’s yours at the moment?
@@chainsaws89 spray inside the intercooler really well. It's just air. Make sure your holding the fan while spraying it from the dust. Might cause damage spinning at those speeds. And spray the whole system out regularly. If your place of living is dusty as mine I recommend every 2 weeks to keep it in proper running condition.
No, as of like 2018 opening your console to clean it won't void your warranty. As long as it's just the top part of the case you're fine. There was a lawsuit against Sony for it.
I really thought my ps4 was run on a jet engine
Yesterday i was playing Fortnite and i feel like i was in a plane😂😂😂
0:53 every time I rebuild database my PS4 dies and I have to revive it
I think your problem might be bigger than a fan. It can only do so much
Ok my dude I’ll get ur ps4 a defibrillator for its bday. 🧑🏻⚕️👌👍🏻👌🏻
bro how’d u revive it
@@chrino7515 full reset
mine doesn’t even turn on no more 😂
The only real way that will work greatly is replacing the thermal paste inside of it. You can even go as far as to replace the thermal pads too.
my sounds like a plane only when i play block ops 4
Sometimes I can’t tell if it’s the AC130 me and my boys are dropping out of or my ps4
Me: Follows tip 1-8
John Glasscock: The best tip is #9 🤣😂
I turned off the HDR and the fan noise stopped thanks so much man.
When I play my friends say that I’m on a airplane
I want the PlayStation to be like a Macintosh fanless and quiet.
My ps4 is elevated on lifters and I have a usb fan on it. I never hear the fan lol
My cousin did this and his ps4 used to sound like a fighter jet. Now his ps4 sounds like beauty
Is it me or i always thought it will blow up
It gets to a point where I have written a letter to my family in case it kills me
When I looked outside to see what lorry was making so much noise I knew it was time to fix my ps4
This video....taught me NOTHING.... LITERALLY everything he said, I was aware of, and I bet most of you were to. This dude has legitimately ran out of ideas.....and that's probably the reason his channel growth has dropped substantially as well as his view totals per video.
Tbh, I didn't know about turning off HDR+, which applies for me since I play on a 4K TV and use that feature
@@JesusGarcia-ol4bg You want that HDR on a 4K display. Why sell yourself out and take that loss...... Sorry, I'll deal with a loud console, and keep my 4K gameplay thank you.

Can I rebuild my Database ( 0:53 ) while my external HDD is connected to the PS4 or will it delete the games I have on it?
Max TM it will not delete anything except for some game settings (sensitivity etc.)
It did it with one and it seemed to actually have deleted stuff but then I just had to retransfer the games or someshit it was odd
Doesn't delete anything but if you use folders it deletes all them making your dashboard a complete mess
I have a total of 4.2TB used on my harddrive when I listened to this advice on his other video it causes 100x more problems then it solved
As it tried to load everything up at once.
Been testing on spiderman game for 3 hours with the fan noise was really low, really” happy with the outcome, just reminder, that you need the tools and new thermal paste if your old one already dry, and it’s better to just put a new thermal paste
Goodluck!
hope the ps5 doesn’t sound loud af😂
I thought the lumberman came to chop out the Neighbors tree, turns out it was just the ps4 sounding like a chainsaw.
Dats crazy, I had my ps4 for 5 years and ps4 never sounded like a jet, but I recently had to buy a new one cuz other one got fried
You’re a hero I need to do this! Mine was cleaned recently and it still didn’t help.
just change the thermal paste...my ps4 sounds like a jet engine even though there's no dust on the fan or in the heatsink ,clean it so many times but still sound like its gonna take off any second but after reopening it again cuz I didn't bother checking the thermal paste and see the APU cheap... the default thermal was super dry and after changing it by the way paste I use was thermal grizzly kyronout boom super dead silent when I play God of war and monster hunter :p
Tsugumi9 ehat dk you mean by thermal paste what is this
This is pretty much basic and it comes from a pc technician / gamer.
A little fact about this video:
You didn’t actually search for this it was randomly recommended
I searched because my friend told me that is PS4 fan noise is loud but holy shit i didn't expected it too be that loud lmao
No, there's a screaming hair dryer in my room I need that to be quiet
Everyone always says that playing digital games reduce the loud noise significantly other than disk games... every time i play digital it feels like the GPU burns up more hence the loud fan noise but when using disks its not as loud.. still loud though
I put mine in the microwave for 10 minutes on full power cant hear a thing now
That is one big microwave, clapz vlogs
pro tip: Just dip the ps4 in your bathtub with lukewarm water for a few seconds, next let the ps4 warm up in a preheated oven for a few minutes. After this procedure it will definitely not make any more noises.
Thanks for the advice man I’ll take it in use but I got to have my physical disc games
PS4 pro is louder than the old PS4. And I have the new model.
Probably because you're playing at 4k
Sad part is that I cleaned the fan and replaced thermal paste and the fan still goes pretty crazy
What was the problem ? Please advice me I am going to change thermal paste
