Masterful, humble interpreter, not trying to overrun the song, so beautiful in everything here. Best work on this almost too popular lieder... Thank you,
Most singers take a virtuoso approach and make this a 'big' song, a showpiece. It has that capability, but Hotter sings the sentiment, the pleading of the words is embodied in his voice.
Dear ComteAnckarstrom, Thank you for posting this. I agree with your comment about Hotter. He is the best interpreter of lied that I have ever heard. He has an integrity in his singing with is without equal.
I've always interpreted the poem of this lied not as a simple seremade, but as Beast begging for the attention of a Beauty he deep down knows won't come to him. Hans Hotter's voice fits that role flawlessly.
There is so much to study, to reflect upon in this extraordinarily restrained and beautiful interpretation. And the partnership between Hotter and Moore is unmatched. Thank you for posting.

@@ethiopianenterprises1524 thanks! FINALLY!!! lol.. they really talking about awaiting the trembling and knowing bosoms and all that, huh?!? WELL, WELL, WELL!!
Beautiful, but very much of its time. It's funny how there are fashions even in lieder interpretations. If somebody sang this like him now, I don't think it would work.
A. Schier wish if somebody would sing the lied in this way! this is true art and this is the spirit of Schubert. Unfortnately today lied is spoken, not sung, the love, the eros inside the lied are gone. I fall in love with this great artist.
Gerald Moore at the piano, Hans Hotter singing.....incomparable.
Love this Lied. Rosa Larsen
Wie berührend! Danke!
The best ever, indeed.
Masterful, humble interpreter, not trying to overrun the song, so beautiful in everything here. Best work on this almost too popular lieder... Thank you,
Mon Dieu, que c'est beau.
This is just so beautiful that I ca not help but cry.
Intense, because of the modesty of Hotter and Moore. Not one ounce of emotion too much. Perfect.
I like it very much.
It is a lesson in how to sing with feeling.
The 'mellow cello' at his finest...and the long, long breaths...very few can sing in such long, glowing phrases. Thanks to Conte Anckarstom for this.
Impeccable!
Hans Hotter was a great artist with good taste. I love his voice very much!
Most singers take a virtuoso approach and make this a 'big' song, a showpiece. It has that capability, but Hotter sings the sentiment, the pleading of the words is embodied in his voice.
It's for just this reason that Hans Hotter is my favorite male interpreter of Schubert's Lieder.
yes. well stated, his timbre is so warm and beautiful, sang in humble way, such a rare thing nowdays...
That is maybe because of the fact that he is actually a wagner's singer... That's why his voice is so powerful but also warm
Such beauty in music, lovely version of a really tender song, Hotter magical and G M masterful.

his performance is so tender...
I have to meet the 5 thumbs down. All I hear is a beautiful song sung by a beautiful voice. I must be missing something.
speechless...very moving interpretation. Had never felt the meaning of the lyrics so painfully as in this version
I've always interpreted the poem of this lied not as a simple seremade, but as Beast begging for the attention of a Beauty he deep down knows won't come to him. Hans Hotter's voice fits that role flawlessly.
This is such a beautiful rendition.

Really lovely, have listened 3 times one after the other it is so good.
Sorrow and nostalgia touch my heart.

Thank you for sharing this masterful performance! 🙏🍀
An anforgandable voice and personaliyu
fabuleux merci!!
Lasting this song now, I love his interpretation
Absolut meisterhaft und ohne Konkurrenz!
Göttlich. Schubert , Hotter und Moore.
Very unique technique. Unusual to hear this kind of breathiness but it works well.
Hans Hotter had asthma all his life.
Prodigiosos los dos.
Merci ...

Wonderful!
Timeless for me. If it's brill.... well, it's brill. It is though, isn't it?
completely
Unglaublich herrlich!
@embenadorfinearts Oui!
So much romantic tension..!
Monumental! Inatteignable! Grandiose!!!

I’ve heard of Hans now after 50 years finally--- he is great but I’d prefer a true lyric tenor
May I suggest you look up Thomas Quasthoff version with orchestra conducted by Claudio Abbado. It’s available in RUclips.
it would be cool if ya''ll could translate the lyrics for dummies like me!

@@gentleeyes Nothing else works for me.
True. Performance is not static. This makes Hotter's Ständchen all the more precious. I love it.
@BrianDonaldMcKay Ecoute Petre Munteanu et tu me dis.
Salut!
Beautiful, but I still give the edge to Fischer Dieskau.
Bit hard to compare . Different voice type. I also like Quasthoff and Stutzmann..
@abracadabranque Pas convaincu.
