I've been a designer for 12 years and my jobs are stress typically, dealing with large format printing and wayfinding signage. Very stressful, you have a totally different day than I do and I kind of envy that. so props to you!
I used to work on wayfinding too... just not the week that I filmed ha It varies so much from week to week - brochures, packaging, signage depending on deadline etc, right? :)
I'm 16 and really want to become a graphic designer! Watched this to get a feel of what I might be doing thank you! And any tips to becoming a graphic designer?
Excellent and useful video. You can check out cost effective digital marketing & SEO services in dubai city - enjoy the video -ruclips.net/video/wjF46KlDf28/видео.htmlss
I think its Exciting KNOWING how all this works, all these programs, all the papers and then seeing the final and finished product-whether you did it all by yourself or as a Group- Must be pretty cool.
Thank you for this video! :) Funnily enough, despite having no commentary, it's been the most informative and the truest representation I've seen so far of a designer's day. Much appreciated.
You're welcome - it's kind of why I made the video because there is a lot of mystery behind what it's like to be a Graphic Designer. Obviously this is only my experience though! And hope you figure out what you want to do with your life :)
I can't wait to show your video to my students! I teach 12th graders "Advertising Art & Design" at a career & tech center (SUN Area Technical Institute). I just got a new book "Graphic Design Solutions" by Robin Landa and I've been researching videos to incorporate into the boring PowerPoint presentations. I'm glad I read the comments -- I think I will explain to the students what you are doing and what you had accomplished (from your comments) because it's not always obvious in the video. The music will be nice in the background. I love that you are in London-I live in a very rural area in Pennsylvania. My daughter studied abroad and stayed in London for a semester in 2015 and she loved it there! Thanks for sharing this video :)
Awww thanks Kim - I hope your students enjoyed/ found my video helpful? I know it maybe doesn't show that much actual work but it's a general overview of how much time you would spend sat at a screen anyway! ha Sounds like you're an awesome teacher if you're trying to find more engaging and fun things to show your students, lucky them :) Would love to know if they have any feedback or questions... Hope that one day you'll be able to visit London - it's an amazing city with so much inspiration and culture!
This just feels like a gigantic montage of drinking tea, with a small amount if working on the computer. You are showing me that being a graphic designer is a pleasant job. I already know that, I want that career after all. I want to learn more about Graphic design, like how crammed is your schedule? How many all nighters are expected of you? What do you even design? I get none of that info here.
Being a Graphic Designer can be a pleasant job, but it can also be a stressful, horrible job depending on where you work. Unfortunately as I was filming in a studio that was working on client projects I couldn't show much actual work on the screen due to privacy, contracts etc. What I do show is snippets of my day, which varies every week. Some weeks the schedule is crammed, others it isn't. Some studios expect you to pull a lot of all nighters, others don't because they plan properly for the amount of time needed to complete a project. In this video (from 2 years ago) I'm designing a brochure for a shopping centre development, business cards and letter heads, a website and brand guidelines, event invitations etc. As I mentioned, you get snippets but I can't show too much. Your questions can't be fully answered because it varies so much depending on country, studio, role, level etc. Sorry this video didn't give you everything you wanted but it still does what it says on the tin in my eyes!
I have watched this video a few times just because i saw you're still using bamboo fun pen and touch tablet which i used in 2009. I still have it but i can't use it because its driver doesn't want together with the driver of my intuos pro :(
Haha yes I was skeptical about using a tablet but ended up loving it! Oh no, have you tried looking on the website to see if you can download a driver? Hope there's one available for you!
NatashaNuttall yes there is. but last time i tried, the driver didn't want to work together with my intuos pro driver. i had to choose one and uninstall the other. but i'm going to try it again. and yes lots of people were sceptical about using tablet. i had classmates tell me that by using a tablet we're not an artist LOL but that was in 2008 when we were studying. i wonder whether they do use one now because if i see one of them use one i sure will make a joke haha
ahhhh nooo that's rubbish :( Yes try it again - I've got my fingers crossed for you! & yeah it makes things so much easier & quicker though... and it's good for your wrists!
It actually can be boring. I lived that way for a year. A little while later I felt, am I doing wrong job. Have you ever felt that way ? Or is it temporary?
Hi Ekim - yes, I know what you mean. Being a junior means that you don't always get the most exciting tasks and it can be hard, especially when we are probably the most hungry for excitement and big ideas. If you're not enjoying yourself then it doesn't necessarily mean that you're not meant to be a Graphic Designer, but maybe the studio isn't the right one for you? Every studio is different, with the way they work and people really making or breaking it! I hope you feel better soon - get inspired and think about what you really want to achieve.
I know its a very old comment but Graphic Design is basically anything you see around! From social media posts to product packaging, from wedding/party invitation cards to magazine covers, from logos to billboards etc. Even now in 2023, graphic designers are going in UX/UI which is basically the apps.

I really hope you can reply because I have to fill the application this week. Is graphic design worth it? I love the whole concept but i dont know about the financial stability
That's a good question! It really depends on a lot of different things... where you are in the world, your style of design, how good you are, if you're well connected, which area of Graphic Design you want to work in, if you want to be employed in a studio or freelance for yourself... lots and lots of questions. The only thing I can really tell you is this; nobody becomes a Graphic Designer to get rich. You do it because you love it/are good at it/want to make a difference in the world. Thousands of students graduate from Graphic Design courses every year but there aren't enough jobs for everyone so you have to be hard working, really good or lucky. If you love design then it's the best job in the world though :) Hope that helps a bit?
+NatashaNuttall I just checked the graphic design box right after reading the comment :D thank you, really. It was either following my passion and becoming a graphic designer, or my parent's guts and become an architect because "that's where the money is." Graphic design is probably the best decision. I'll try to stand out, given that I am fairly good at drawing and design logos for fun. I hope I'll become an art director one day although I'm not sure if that's how things work. And just another question if I may, do I join Graphic Design as a general major and then later choose a specific path like animation (motion graphics (?)) Or is that not how it works at all?
LOL, I like your comment about what your parents said. When I was little, my dad said I couldn't be an artist and make any money; but I'm a graphic designer and I do okay ($45k/year in a smaller city with 5 years experience). About choosing a specific path: in my experience, diversification is the key in this field (in other words, learn how to do a lot of different things, like print design, web design, and animation) to increase your odds of finding a good job. Graphic design is very competitive, so anything you can do to stand out from the crowd is good. Being talented is a great start, and a strong portfolio and a lot of different skills will really make a difference. ~
If everyone just went with a career because 'thats where the money is' we'd all be bankers or doctors? And anyway, from my experience of speaking to people, being an architect is also very hard money wise - the amazing and ground breaking can earn a lot, yes. But to get to that stage you have to study for 7 years and then you start as an intern, just like if you were a Graphic Designer! On the study: I'm not sure, sorry. I think it's unique to every University/College/Country so when you are choosing where to study this is definitely something you should ask!
+Katie Johnson thank you for your reply, and yes, I totally agee. I really aim to stand out and I'm trying to be narcissistic but i think I have all the assets I need. For instance, I can draw (digitally/traditionally) (examples on ny instagram page @samerstuff) and I'm also learning Ae and I can animate quite well in my opinion, but I still need a lot of tutorials. And I've designed logos, banners and other similsr stuff for people on the internet and the feedback is always positive. So I think will try to expand on every graohic design branch I can just like you said and I hope this works out!
Couple questions cos I’m curious Did you study anything at university to become a graphic design, and if so what course did you take? What is your annual salary?
Hi Aliya, yes I studied a BA Hons in Graphic Design - there's lots of variations of this kinda course across the UK/the world. Each University will have their own focus (digital, print, advertising etc) so do a bit of googling to find a course you like the sound of. You don't always have to go to University though - there are other routes into Design depending on where you live/who you know etc. When I filmed this video (4 years ago) my salary as a Junior Graphic Designer was 24K, but pay varies depending on the studio/agency/location that you're working at/ how skilled you are/ how good you are at negotiating. For a better idea of the salary you might get now I'd look at some job sites (The Dots, Design Jobs Board, If you could) to see what people are offering now. Hope that helps!?
I am highly interested in becoming a graphic designer but I’m worried about how people say it takes up all of your free time outside of work and school and you get no sleep as well as it’s very stressful.
Haha well studying Graphic Design can be quite intense, but really it depends on how organised you are with your time. You can do all nighters to meet deadlines but then I think most students do that. In terms of work, sometimes you might have to stay past the usual end of day time, but it depends what kind of job you have. I don't think you should be put off by the hard work if it's something you're really interested in doing - every career will require hard work & dedication! :) Hope that helps a bit?
Looks a lot like my typical work day, except I don't care for tablets (mouse and keyboard works fine for me) and my city (Boise) is nowhere near as cool! Also I no longer work in that kind of studio setting, which kind of sucks but having my own office has its perks, too. ~
I didn't get tablets to begin with but I was converted haha :) I like the buzz and atmosphere of a studio, but sometimes it can distract you from getting work done!
Good question Kristen! It depends - it's different in every country. But most people go to University and get a degree, then start interning at studios. Some people are self taught designers, but unless you have a lot of contacts in industry already I wouldn't recommend that route for most people.
wowww greatt video natasha :) liked & subscribed☺ I am from India and I completed my postgraduation in fashion communication and also done course with the basic softwares of graphic design (photoshop, illustrator, indesign and coreldraw).. I need suggestions from people that which category of graphic designer post I can apply for? cuz I love art as well as fashion..I want a combo of those categories for my career.. but sadly I have friends from either core fashion or core graphic designers. so, nobody knows what to suggest me...google also doesn't have proper info of what I need. In my mind I have this thing that I can apply for some post in a lifestyle company where we can design all products from garments to furniture. eg: chumbak. . so what term should I use in the objective of my resume? what should I type in the search engine? is it fashion and graphic design.? I m preparing a portfolio in which both graphics and fashion be there. . I tried so many things yet not getting satisfying answers from anyone.. still exploring. . if you can help me out I would be glad..! thnkyu soooo much in advance..
Glad you liked the video Saji - thanks for stopping by :) Oooh this is a touch one! I'd say that you could do a few things... Graphic Design at a fashion brand or Surface Pattern designer? I guess it depends if you prefer doing graphics for fashion (like tshirt design or pattern and prints for fabric?) or branding? Both could be really fun! :) I don't know if that helps at all? Let me know ha
I couldn't film any design work in progress because I didn't have any of our clients permission so it was specifically shot to not show any. But what you do see is general day to day tasks... discussions about projects, phone call to the printers, the business cards arriving, me making amendments to the business cards. I'm pretty sure business cards count as design collateral...
Thinking of a new design and they would say they don't like it a thousand times and you just feel you want to scream and get others think of something for you
Well I guess it really depends on the type of studio/agency you're working in. Sure, some can be high pressured and repetitive but some people really enjoy that kind of environment - each to their own!
Hey Natasha! Good to see you here. We follow each other at instagram but I kinda deleted my account last month. But hey! I'm always in youtube. Hope you're doing well! Regards from the Philippines! -Karl (a.k.a. @iolak)
ok,,be real,,have no idea what she did all week but look at screen & cut some paper,& couple pics & end result!!! nothing!! watch with son ,,TO CHOOSE A CAREER & we looked at each other & said ,,WHAAATTTTHEHELL!! SHE DOSENT HAVE TO WORK,,WHAT DID SHE DO!!LOL
The 'problem' is that even though I was working on client work all week I couldn't show the screen because it's confidential. So as I explained in the blog post (linked in the description box) I couldn't film everything that I did. Yes, I did work: phoning clients, doing the studio social media, sorting the font library, having a meeting on client feedback on a brochure, getting a print job that I'd been working on into the studio, making edits, photographing and editing it for the website, cutting paper for some event invites and printing the event invites. It might all seem dull, but this is also the reason that I made this video. To show that being a Junior Graphic Designer ISN'T that glamourous and because you are the bottom of the food chain in the studio you do have to do the jobs that nobody else wants/ has time to. e.g. cutting the paper - if I didn't do it, who would? And I filmed the cutting to mix it up because otherwise this video would have been just screen based. Not every week is the same, but most of the time you're sat at a screen researching or getting inspiration or photoshopping. Also wanted to show the commute in London and the studio culture - interacting with people etc.
I would love to do it as a freelancer but not in a office or stuff like that.Being in the same place everyday isnt quite nice.Didn't expect you to respond.
This is what should be shown instead of about me videos with this caption! Thanks so much!
Thanks, just wanted to show a true representation of the day to day :)
why is it stressful?
I guess because there are a lot of things that can go wrong with large format printing & way finding, and any mistakes are a lot more expensive?
I'm 16 and really want to become a graphic designer! Watched this to get a feel of what I might be doing thank you! And any tips to becoming a graphic designer?
HoomanTheJake please God! Have fun! Make great work!

Haha oh you joker! :) But it is usually quite fast paced working in a studio

Thanks Natasha for this video upload. Its pretty nice :D
Thanks for sharing your day! 😊
I hope you feel better soon - get inspired and think about what you really want to achieve.
what a levels did you study or btecs? and did you go to uni I'm looking at what I'm best to take when i finish year 11
What does a Graphic Designer really do? What's the true definition as i often get confused and i wish to pursue a career in this industry.
I know its a very old comment but Graphic Design is basically anything you see around! From social media posts to product packaging, from wedding/party invitation cards to magazine covers, from logos to billboards etc. Even now in 2023, graphic designers are going in UX/UI which is basically the apps.
How did you get started? I am a graphic designer and graduate college but I have no idea how to step into the employment industry.
Create a portfolio
Make an appointment with someone to help you with your resume like your local library
Ask former professors for letters of recommendations
Find internship opportunities with your state
Volunteering at for people that need designers to get experience
This video is so inspiring to me bcz i want to become a graphic designer...i'm good at designing right now but i want to get bachelor degree in design.. :) Btwn plz tell me the music at Wednesday that was so smooth and calm music
Update: I'm majoring in Advertising right now..
This was visually satisfying.
Really liked the video. Keep up the good work!
Glad you liked it - thanks for watching!
I really hope you can reply because I have to fill the application this week. Is graphic design worth it? I love the whole concept but i dont know about the financial stability
That's a good question! what's better a wacom or an ipad pro? I'm going in that field. help me please?
I don't have any experience using an iPad Pro, sorry! I'm sure there will be some RUclips videos comparing the two though?
Awe okay no problem. What other tools do you use for graphic design? Like besides the wacom? Do you also do sketches by hand?
im good at graphic design but suck at drawing.. this give me anxiety
MOOODD 😭😭
Great content! Love it! Trying to get in the graphic design field :)

Yes, you can become a free lancer but you''ll have to market yourself, get your own clients etc...
Skinny Penis you Can do it from home, but Remember, to find clients became really difficult.
What qualifications did you get to do graphic design? (college, university etc?)
I did a BTEC ND Graphic Design at college and then a BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Uni
NatashaNuttall thanks
Didn’t see a single piece of design collateral. A great deal of clerical work though...
Great video, were do you live?
Thanks Carolina - I'm London based :)
NatashaNuttall Thanks ;)
What are the struggles of being a graphic designer?
Thinking of a new design and they would say they don't like it a thousand times and you just feel you want to scream and get others think of something for you
This was cool!
Thanks :)
It's a beautiful career but in the UK it's boring routine and stressful, I'm graphic designer and we have better atmosphere in Spain
Well I guess it really depends on the type of studio/agency you're working in. Sure, some can be high pressured and repetitive but some people really enjoy that kind of environment - each to their own!
Hi Natasha ! Font at 0:04 please ?
Hi :) I *think* it's League Gothic with a lot of tracking...
Yes that's it ! Thank youuuu so much :)
What type of designer are you?
John Lawson there are different types....
does anyone have tips on becoming a graphic designer
Hey Abigail - anything in particular you'd like tips on? Portfolio or skill wise?
Hey Natasha! Good to see you here. We follow each other at instagram but I kinda deleted my account last month. But hey! I'm always in youtube. Hope you're doing well! Regards from the Philippines!

more one
ok,,be real,,have no idea what she did all week but look at screen & cut some paper,& couple pics & end result!!! nothing!! watch with son ,,TO CHOOSE A CAREER & we looked at each other & said ,,WHAAATTTTHEHELL!!
Also wanted to show the commute in London and the studio culture - interacting with people etc.
excuse me ms, can i get ur instagram or ur pinterest ?
Heyy, yes my Instagram is linked in the description :)

I know it's tiring but I want to experience things like this walking instead of a car .. it's healthy
Looks depressing.
It's not for everyone I guess!
I would love to do it as a freelancer but not in a office or stuff like that.Being in the same place everyday isnt quite nice.Didn't expect you to respond.
